Summary

The E-TWOW S2 Booster Plus is a lightweight, compact commuter scooter that has earned a loyal following for its excellent power-to-weight ratio and portability. Reddit users consistently praise how easy it is to carry onto public transit and into shops, making it a favorite for multi-modal commuters. The overall sentiment is positive for city riders who prioritize portability and solid build quality, though it comes with real caveats around speed accuracy and battery longevity over time. It's a mature platform with an active community that has figured out workarounds for most of its quirks.

Pros

  • Exceptional portability at around 11kg — riders routinely carry it over their shoulder into stores, on trains, and under restaurant tables without hassle
  • Strong hill performance for its size, with multiple riders reporting it handles 20%+ inclines confidently
  • Dual suspension (front and rear shocks) delivers a noticeably smoother ride than competitors running large solid tires alone
  • Proven long-term durability — several owners report 2,400+ miles and 5,000km on their units with minimal maintenance
  • Fast charge time of 1-2 hours makes it practical for all-day commuters who can top up midday
  • Active Reddit community with documented DIY solutions for speed limiters, battery replacements, and controller tweaks

Cons

  • Speedometer is known to overread by roughly 20-25% — GPS consistently shows real-world top speed around 28 km/h while the display claims 36 km/h, which multiple owners called outright misleading
  • Throttle response is jerky and inconsistent at speeds below 10 mph, making slow-speed maneuvering uncomfortable compared to larger scooters
  • Battery capacity degrades noticeably after 3,000-4,000 km of use, with erratic charge readings and sudden cutouts on uphills becoming common complaints
  • Speed limiters in EU regions (France, Spain, Germany) cap the scooter at 25 km/h out of the box, and unlocking requires physically modifying the controller board — voiding warranty
  • Water resistance is poor; riding in wet conditions stresses riders out and is actively discouraged by the community
  • Replacement parts (batteries, displays) can be expensive and hard to source depending on region — one user paid $80 for a replacement display after a failed speed-unlock attempt

The Speedometer Lie That Frustrates Every New Owner

Reddit threads are full of S2 Booster Plus buyers discovering their GPS reads 28 km/h while the display proudly shows 36. E-TWOW's decision to inflate the speedo reading isn't a calibration quirk — it's a pattern that owners across multiple countries have confirmed and complained about directly to the company.

Best Ultraportable Commuter, But Read the Fine Print

If portability is your top priority, few scooters at this price point match the S2 Booster Plus. Owners with 2,000+ miles consistently rate it their best commuter. The catch: EU buyers may receive a speed-limited unit, and unlocking it means cracking open the controller board.

Battery Degradation Is the Real Long-Term Risk

The S2 Booster Plus holds up well mechanically, but its battery is the weak link after heavy use. At 4,000 km, riders report wildly inaccurate charge readings, sudden power cutoffs on inclines, and a charger that goes green after 20 minutes. Plan for a battery replacement as part of your long-term ownership cost.

Good battery, new brake is a solid improvement for me personally. It hits all the marks - it's light, it's bloody powerful, and it has batteries that can seemingly last 20+km between charges.

Pound for pound, I think that the E-Twow GT might sport the best performance for an electric scooter. It's compact, powerful, and super fun to ride.

A couple years late but I got my etwow GT in 2022 and it's still my daily driver 5000km later. Best scooter I've used.

It's a very popular scooter. The main complaint about these models is due to the solid rubber tires when going over rough roads with cracks, potholes, etc.

I'm an avid cyclist and even race in cyclocross. I've commuted on a folding bike for about 9 years and 14,000 biking miles. I'd never ridden an electric scooter in my life when I researched and then bought this GT Sport. My commute now involves two trains with a walk between them and about half a mile scooting on each end.

After a number of flats I switched out the back tire to solid. Honestly, I'd take the shocks solid little tires on GT sport over the big air-filled tires on the Turboant. That said, maybe I'll eat it on a pothole and change my tune, but thus far the ride is very smooth for me. I honestly believe it's the perfect scooter.

I received it from Uscooters about 12 days ago and have already put on just over 100 miles. I'm 200 lbs. and 6'1" and a senior citizen (65) to boot. The GT Sport is a fantastic scooter even for my size and age.

Now I also removed the diode that limits the speed. It was really super easy! A quick test on L4 gave me 37 km/h with battery on 50% and my 85 kg weight. Fantastic!

That's a hard kick in the nuts for anyone who bought it in the countries affected... This thing just lost one of its key selling points unless you're willing to modify the board which no doubt voids the warranty. It's kind of disgusting they still advertise it as a 40kmh scooter on their site too.

Since the wheels are solid and under 9 inches, I feel 25 mph is way too fast — thus I cap mine at 20mph. Due to the solid tires and the dual suspension, the comfort of the ride is only adequate. Maintaining slow speed at under 10mph is herky and jerky.

I'm also in the UK. Mine arrived from the supplier ICE in Spain and it is indeed limited to L3. I'm tempted to take a look at chip to see if it is there to be unsoldered. However, don't get too down, even on L3 it is a lot quicker than I expected — I don't think I am going to be going faster than 25kph at the moment anyway.

The form factor is perfect. Easy to carry on trains or buses, folds up really well. I've been hoping for something similar with a bit more oomph. This scooter looks great, but at only 200w more than their original scooter I'm pretty disappointed. If they would have opted for dual 500w motors it would increase traction, acceleration, and braking.

I've put 2,400mi on an E-TWOW Booster V. The design is unbeatable and covers for a lot of sins like a primitive charging system, poor water resistance, and a whimsical battery meter.

I followed this guy's guide, really easy to take the case off and I wiggled off the speed restriction transistor, restarted holding the brake button and I could change to L4. A quick test got me to 41kph!

Received my GT 2020 today. It came with the speed limit, and only L1-L3. First thing I did was to cut off the photodiode like in the video. It took just a couple of minutes, and was really easy to do. To my surprise, it only unlocked the L4 and not L5. But luckily, L4 is restricted to 40km/h so no problem.

I refuse to use the E brake. It's dangerous. The regular hand and foot brakes work great. I like this scooter so much that I have purchased 4 over the last few years (friends keep trying it out and claiming mine). These are the best bang for your buck scooters. They will take a beating and keep on ticking.

The front regenerative brakes are awful at high speeds. I need around double the distance to stop compared to my older etwow booster V model. Not to mention there's a slight delay between pressing the lever and the motor actually engaging.

So this tends to happen when the battery is on its way out, and a replacement certainly sounds like the right way to go. First thing I'd do is open her up and make sure you don't have a pillow in there. Then order a new battery.

It is the battery. The meter is only a guideline of the voltage it produces. Your pack just has some bad cells. So when it tries to draw out full power it can't and cuts off. The only solution is to replace the pack or ride slower.

I have been using my E-twow S2 Booster Plus to commute for 1.5 years and am close to 4000 km. In the beginning I could easily go to work and back (7km each way). Now I can only make it one way. The battery levels are all wonky and will drop from 30% to dead or even drop from 70% to 40% when I go up a sharp incline, then climb back to 60%. I can't trust it.

When setting the s2 booster plus to L5 and P3, the speedometer says I'm going 36 km/h, while the GPS on my phone says 28. The display shows a speed of nearly 10 kmh more than it actually goes. Is this criminal?

The throttle jerkiness is a problem if you regularly need to maintain under 10 mph. I also rarely go at top speed unless I'm on a long smooth straight away. Normally I cruise at 15-20 mph.

I just bought my Etwow GT SE a few weeks ago. There is definitely a learning curve to this scooter which is the trade off for its low maintenance. I agree with OP and the comments. The handlebars do jiggle a little but it doesn't bother me since I know it's well seated into the stem.

There are two videos online on how to remove the speed limit: cut of the photo-resistor (light sensor) and solder a wire bridge to 'S2 pins' on the backside of the display. I haven't tried doing this, since both approaches seem fishy to me — especially the second one, as the same pins in the german limited version are used to power the external light, so bridging them would most probably destroy the display.

It's unstable in wet conditions. I have ridden it in monsoons basically, but VERY carefully. GT Sport is an ultraportable. I hang it off my shoulder when I go into a store and just carry it around with me. It also has a TON of zip.

I just got the same scooter. You can turn off the speed limiter in the P3 settings to make it go faster than 18mph. I was able to get the display to read 22.6mph on a flat surface. I'm 5'8" and weight 183lbs.

If you can get to L5 mode, my scooter tops out at 43 kmh at a full charge to about 80% battery. It was auto-set to L5. In the US, we don't have the option to change the L setting. I wish I could so I could loan it out to people on a slower setting.

This scooter is fun as fuck and downright dangerous because of how fun it is to go top speed. I kept locking up the rear because I was used to a scooter that had both brakes activated by the left lever.

Just received mine, but am a bit disappointed with it. It feels really weak compared to my Ninebot G30D Max when going up hill. The G30D has a 350W motor and weighs 21kg, so I was expecting this 700W motor 11kg scooter to be a lot quicker up hill. Secondly, it is quite jerky when it comes to accelerating and letting go of the stick.

It does not like riding slow if you've not limited the speed. They really need to do something about that curve - it shoots from nothing to 30% then ramps 30-100 rather than a gradual 5-100 like many other scooters.

Mine arrived today and had EXACTLY the same issue. GPS doesn't lie. It's bad enough that it doesn't do the advertised speed. But what's worse is that they think it's acceptable to screw with the speedo to pretend it does. Pathetic.

DO NOT TRY THE METHOD IN THE YOUTUBE VIDEO, this will ruin your scooter. Because of these videos my display stopped working and I needed to change it for 80 dollars so if you don't want to spend money for nothing don't do this.

I've got the Zoom Stryder as well plus the E-Twow Monster which has a 1000watt motor. It is a darn sight quicker than the Zoom, really noticeable on the hills.

The speed discrepancy is because the controllers need to be tuned to your tyres. Few people are scientific in their approach. Consult the P settings and you'll be able to dial it in.
