Summary

The ANYHILL UM-1 is a lightweight commuter electric scooter positioned as a portable alternative to the Xiaomi M365, targeting riders who need to carry their scooter on public transit daily. Reddit sentiment is mixed-to-lukewarm — real-world owners report solid build quality and reliable day-to-day commuting performance, but the brand's limited community presence and sparse spare parts availability are recurring concerns. At least one long-term owner used the UM-1 for a NJ-to-NYC daily commute for over a year before hitting a recurring controller issue. The scooter is appreciated for its manageable weight and folding mechanism, but skeptics question whether the value holds up against more established competitors at similar or lower price points.

Pros

  • Lightweight and foldable design makes it genuinely viable for multimodal commutes — riders specifically chose it for daily train and bus trips where carrying the scooter is required
  • Solid build quality reported by owners, with the UM-1 handling a heavy NJ-to-NYC daily commute for over a year before any major issue
  • Available through major retailers like Amazon and Best Buy, making purchase and returns straightforward compared to smaller DTC brands
  • Controller replacement was handled by a local bike shop, suggesting the internals are repairable by third parties even if Anyhill parts stock runs out
  • Anyhill's customer service has been described as responsive by some users, with parts orders followed up and eventually shipped

Cons

  • Extremely thin Reddit community — multiple experienced subreddit members noted they could not recall a single verified UM-1 owner posting reviews, making peer support and troubleshooting difficult
  • Recurring controller failures reported on at least one long-term unit, and replacement parts were listed as sold out on Anyhill's own website during the repair window
  • Criticized as overpriced for what it offers — one commenter called it 'a less customisable M365 equivalent for twice the money,' which stings at a $400 price point
  • As a newer, low-volume brand, spare parts availability long-term is a real risk — community members specifically flagged that finding components for obscure models becomes harder over time
  • No IP rating transparency on the base UM-1; water resistance assumptions are risky for riders who leave the scooter outdoors or commute in variable weather
  • Customer service fulfillment has been inconsistent — one parts order went through customs delays with poor tracking transparency, stretching a simple locking ring replacement over multiple weeks

Daily Commuter or Parts Desert?

The UM-1 held up through a year-plus of daily NJ-to-NYC riding — until the controller failed twice and the replacement was out of stock on Anyhill's own site. For a scooter with almost no Reddit community behind it, that's a tough spot to be in.

Portable Enough, But at What Cost?

At $400, the UM-1 sits in a crowded bracket where the KQi2 Pro dominates with hundreds of community owners and proven support. Anyhill's portability pitch is real, but buying into a niche brand at this price means betting on a company that's still building its track record.

The Controller Problem Nobody Talks About

Throttle dropout, jerky starts, and stops — one UM-1 owner hit the same controller failure twice in two years. It's a single data point, but with almost no other owners posting, it's hard to know if this is a fluke or a pattern.

TurboAnt scooters are junk. Don't waste your time. The Anyhill scooter looks like a decent option but it's a brand new company so it's up to you if you feel comfortable with that. I can't recall anyone here claiming to own one. The more people who buy a particular model, the better the chances of finding parts and getting support.

I am happy to announce that I have just hit 1100 miles on my Anyhill UM-2 scooter. I love this thing. It is the most reliable scooter I've ever had. I haven't had to do maintenance of any kind (besides checking tire pressure). If you're looking for an electric scooter that you don't have to worry about and that has swappable batteries, this is it. This scooter has my full backing.

I have a neon and a kqi2..if all you want is portability then get the okai..if you want comfort and quality get the niu..my kqi2 has a 2 year warranty and after 2 months it stopped working..I sent it to their besender repair shop and they returned it fully operational..the okai had a defective front tire and valve..its been a month and they barely respond..the kqi2 is over 40 pounds but it folds up securely and it's worth picking up the extra weight because their customer service is adequate.

Greetings! I've had the Anyhill UM2 since Dec. '23. It is my first scooter. While it seems to have plenty of power to go up hills and reasonably fast, mine has an effective range of only about 14-15 miles. It's ok with me since I don't usually go further on one charge, but a bit disappointing. However the overall build is great and it seems really stable. I also appreciate the removable battery especially when it's cold outside!

I've been using my Anyhill UM-2 for about a week now. I bought it after endless researching and thinking I was never going to find the unicorn I was looking for. I LOVE: The overall look; the build quality; the removable battery; the smooth & stable ride; the responsive brakes; the way it folds quickly and easily (once you know the trick). I DON'T LOVE: The dim display that's impossible to read unless you're in total shade.

I don't see any IPxx certificate claim. Assume it's not even water resistant.

Excellent review! I have the Anyhill UM-2 in my list of recommended commuter scooters, but I typically reserve it for people looking for a removable battery, which is honestly pretty rare. But that 300lb weight limit is another good feature that I hadn't considered.

Only thing I don't like about your scooter is how expensive that battery is. I have a scooter with a 10Ah 36V battery and I paid that much for the entire thing. Admittedly that was an unusually good deal, but still - 300 bucks is a lot of money for 360Wh.

Those would be the two if you have to have a removable battery. Hiboy scooters are junk. Anyhill is probably the better choice but we've only seen a few people here buy them and report back. I'm skeptical you will find spare parts for it down the road because I don't think they have sold very many units. It's a very new company.

The locking ring was broken during the unfolding process. I ordered a replacement immediately through ANYHILL's site with no mention of backorder or out of stock anywhere. 4 days later I follow up and their scooters and other parts are working their way through customs, according to their customer service.

I can't recall a single person posting here about owning an Anyhill scooter. I've seen maybe one person claim to own the Neon Lite. And hundreds of people own the KQi2 Pro. This is important because you really won't get much support from scooter manufacturers when you have questions, so having a community of people here familiar with your scooter can really be helpful. And finding spare parts is much easier on a highly popular scooter than one that hardly sells many units.

Fairly typical of Far East vendors. Flakey/Disorganized. Language barrier. Slow, trouble-prone shipping.

I bought the Anyhill UM-1 in March 2023 because I was in the market for a commuter scooter, and by and large I love it. 5 days a week NJ to train, Penn station to nyc office and back home again. Only major issue was a year ago and I had to replace the controller with help of my local bike shop. Well cut to today, and I'm having similar issues again- the scooter doesn't respond to the throttle at times, stops and starts, and gets jerky. I'm thinking it's an electrical issue, specifically the controller. The problem is this accessory is currently sold out on the Anyhill website.

Its ip54 but buy a cover for it. Scooters do not last long left out in the rain. The battery is like the most important and most expensive part, and LG cells are top shelf. Do a reddit search for anyhill um-2 there are other users who have posted reviews and thoughts about it.

I bought the Anyhill UM-2 from BestBuy November 2023. The pros are it seems solidly built and it does seem to have quite a bit of power but from full charge at about 15 miles it starts slowing down until it reaches 0 charge (for me) at about 17 miles. The last few miles it had less power and speed. I thought I would get better mileage off the battery. It is convenient to take out the battery for charging! Overall nice scooter but a bit short on expected range.

I have this same issue at my workplace and it's been super convenient to take battery out and charge at my desk.

The UM2 was, in my opinion, great - until it wasn't. Removable battery so I could leave the scooter in the garage but charge the battery overnight. Durable to hold me at 6'2", 210 lbs and my backpack. Fast enough at top speed of 20 mph. Relatively compact when folded. The UM2 was not without issue though. I had a front flat. Then a back flat.

I had an okai neon lite. The design itself is actually pretty neat but the lack of suspension and general build quality — screws, parts getting loose — made the whole experience a little lacklustre. It is very portable but there is really just one load bearing bolt that holds the entire weight of the scooter when you carry it and keeps the stem in place when you ride it.

I have a turbo ant though it's not the best on hills. It's as reliable as it gets, I've used it for about 20-30km a week and I'm going on year 6 without any degradation.
