Summary

The Glion Dolly has built a loyal following among urban commuters who prioritize portability above all else — its rolling dolly wheels and vertical storage make it uniquely suited for multimodal commutes involving buses, subways, and trains. Reddit sentiment is generally positive but tempered: users consistently praise its reliability and build quality while acknowledging it's a niche product that doesn't compete on speed, range, or ride comfort. Most owners use it for last-mile trips under 10 miles and report it holds up well over time, with one user logging over 1,000 miles. It's a product with a clear identity — but that identity has real limits, and users who push beyond its intended use case tend to come away disappointed.

Pros

  • Unique dolly functionality — folds vertically and rolls on integrated wheels like a suitcase, making it far easier to handle on stairs, buses, and trains than conventional folding scooters
  • Lightweight at ~27–29 lbs, one of the lightest full-featured electric scooters available, consistently recommended in 'lightest scooter' threads
  • Proven long-term durability: at least one owner reported 1,000+ miles with the scooter still functional, and build quality is frequently cited as more trustworthy than budget competitors
  • 15 mph top speed is genuinely appropriate for city rush-hour conditions — users note going faster in dense foot/bike traffic isn't practical anyway
  • Glion's customer service is described as responsive and pleasant, and the company has shown a willingness to iterate (model 215 → 225 added front suspension, rear tail light, and friction brake fender)
  • Honeycomb solid tires eliminate flat tire risk entirely — a meaningful advantage for daily commuters who can't afford downtime

Cons

  • Top speed caps at ~12–15 mph in practice, with no easy path to go faster — unsuitable for longer suburban stretches or passing traffic on open roads
  • No suspension on base models means a harsh, jarring ride on rough city pavement; riders must actively adjust posture (bent knees, balls of feet) to tolerate it
  • Range is modest and degrades noticeably in cold weather and under heavier riders — one 230 lb user got ~6 miles per charge on rolling hills
  • The dolly wheels are useful when they work but unreliable on uneven surfaces — multiple users report the scooter tipping over and forcing them to carry it instead
  • Braking distance is longer than comparable scooters; electronic brakes can feel unresponsive at top speed, requiring the foot brake as backup
  • Availability has been inconsistent — the scooter went out of stock for extended periods and has limited retail presence outside the US, with difficult international shipping

Does the Dolly Wheel Gimmick Actually Work?

Reddit is split on Glion's signature feature. When the surface cooperates, the rolling dolly handle is genuinely useful for transit commuters. When it doesn't — uneven pavement, stairs with lips, wet floors — the scooter tips constantly and becomes dead weight. Whether it's a game-changer or a gimmick depends entirely on your specific commute.

A Commuter Scooter That Refuses to Be Anything Else

The Glion Dolly has a narrower sweet spot than most scooters its price. It excels at short last-mile urban hops with public transit — and struggles the moment you ask it to do more. Reddit owners who stay within that lane report years of reliable service. Those who expected suburban range or hill-climbing capability feel burned.

Heavier Riders Get a Very Different Scooter

At lighter body weights the Dolly handles hills and delivers on its range claims. Above 220–230 lbs, range drops noticeably, hill climbing weakens, and the ride quality gets rougher. A few Reddit users in that weight range describe a noticeably less capable experience — something Glion's marketing doesn't flag clearly.

The Dolly is a solid (if a bit underwhelming) scooter that does its job without too much fuss. And yes, I agree it feels a bit heavy despite its supposed light weight. Maybe it's because I've used it for its intended purpose: as a last-mile option going from the subway or bus. The issue is that some subway stations are quite deep, and lugging it up long staircases is a bit tiring.

Starting the scooter I found confusing - may just take some time getting used to. Telescoping handle I thought would have one of those buttons to pop into like all the youtube videos. The one I received doesn't and only relies on tightening. This was confusing to me and I needed to call support for the explanation.

I have one! It's gone legitimately over 1000 miles. It's starting to slow down a smidge and doesn't have the range it used to but I've been quite happy. Next up, I want something with more range and I hope glion will make something that works…

I loved the Glion, it was my first E-Scooter I owned due to an amazon screwup. Wasn't the best but it was reliable for my short commute. They have an XL version that's a bit heavier but has regular tires instead of the solid ones iirc.

If the weight and price stay reasonable, then this might be a solid multi-mode commuter scoot. The addition of front suspension puts it back on my contender list.

I have a Glion Dolly. All these items are GREAT improvements. Good for them to listen and make the changes their clients were asking for.

6 miles today, 230lbs load, average 9mph, rolling hills, 400ft total elevation gain, brings full down to half indicated battery level.

Cool hopefully the front suspension is going to be an upgrade that is user serviceable. Pro tip to lower the stem into the folded position is it easiest to stand in front of the scooter and depress the quick release.

Yes - it is a great device for commuting in the city. You don't want to go more than 15 MPH usually anyways. Fits well on the bus. Feels sturdy. Decent enough braking.

Nah, she was fast as hell out of the box… I admit to abusing it a little and riding it with a boyfriend for at least several hundred miles. Still all together, still doing ok, just started slowing down this fall. She's been ridden hard and rough, and did well. And hills aren't an issue if you aren't that heavy, I'm small and it handles steep hills pretty easily - but it does drain the batteries more quickly.

You covered a few points that I agree with that I definitely missed in my review - especially the instability of the Dolly wheels. When they roll well, they are a godsend, but very frustrating when it continually falls over and you have to carry the whole thing instead.

The Dolly will be fine for you for a couple of years, depending on your usage frequency. The Dolly is still a solid scooter with decent power for me, but right now, it requires more attention to its range due to the cold weather (which is true for all Li-Ion-powered devices). From a structural standpoint, I generally trust the Dolly more than other scooters.

It proved to be an indispensable addition to my daily commute. If Glion could add extra power to it to make it 25 mph and an extended range to 25-30 miles... it would become perfect.

Glion Dolly was the original, ultimate commuter scooter. They're discontinued now, but the Fluid Mosquito is similar in many ways at 29 lbs.

I've not but ya I wish they'd at least have boost ability to go 20 to pass double parked cars in the bike lane or extra power for hills. I'm currently working on replacing front wheel with pneumatic wheel w/ drum brake as I see suspension and braking as the main design sacrifices presently.

Really any scooter will do for that commute but if you want the most compact and portable: Glion Dolly or Etwow/uscooter GT model line. 23-28 lbs. Dolly can be pulled around like rolling luggage and stored vertically upright while folded - great if you use public transit.

When I use it around suburban areas though, I definitely wish for something a bit faster and better uphill strength. I don't know if this is possible for such a small scooter.

I don't know what level of support you are going to get with those scooters. When I look up dealers in Southern Cal where I'm located I get a bunch of medical supply shops. In the US the most popular brands are Segway, Niu and Vsett. For ultra portable we see E-TWOW. I've heard the Glion line is decent but it always seems like people in Europe talking about them, not US buyers.

Since Glion sells replacement parts hopefully we will be able to buy them and upgrade the older Dolly models.

I also tried a Swagger Jumbotron recently and was amazed on how light it is. I also think it is cheaper. I'm not an expert on all scooters, so I don't know how Dolly fits in relative to other scooters so definitely possible you can find a better deal. Overall though, I haven't had any major issues with the Dolly and it has served me well as a scooter to take on a bus/metro.

"Flinty" ride means that it will have a very hard and jarring ride on rough surfaces. The Dolly has solid "honeycomb" tires and essentially no suspension. So if you aren't used to riding a scooter, the first time riding on rough surfaces will feel a bit tough on your body. But once you learn to bend your knees more, ride a bit more on the balls of your feet, and become used to the Dolly's ride, it isn't quite as bad anymore.

I sent mine in for service last week and apparently as part of the service they upgraded it to the 225 by adding the rear brake/light, new headlight bracket and front suspension. It shipped back to me today so I can't wait to receive it and confirm!

Glion Dolly (I think it's the 255, their base model). It is 26-27lbs and has retractable suitcase handles to let it be pulled around like a dolly. Makes it super easy to transport. It also stands vertical for people with tiny apartments.

Is the Dolly actually discontinued? I only see that it is unavailable until 2024 on Glion's website.

I think part of the issue is it's rated to hit 15 mph but at best I do 12 - do you know if I could swap out the motor for a higher wattage but keep the battery and controller I currently have?

NYC commuter here as well. Glion Dolly is worth a look especially if you need to take the train. The dolly feature is what sold me. It folds and stands vertically and has dolly wheels and a telescoping handle like a luggage bag.

Braking distance on the dolly is longer than other scooters for sure. The electronic braking is something that took some getting used to but dolly only goes 15 mph so it's doable. Just be careful and brake in advance. A few times I felt as though the brakes didn't engage when at the top speed, I had to use the foot brake in conjunction.

Yeah, I don't see why they don't just offer a larger battery option for longer range. I wish it had a more uphill capability.

Yes...the addition of about 10 more mph would make this perfect! Most of the time I don't need it, but on long empty canal paths it sure would be nice! Or going up hills. But I'm a big guy too at around 245.

I reached out to glion and apparently the UK doesn't count within their 'European' shipping, and I would have to order from the china factory. Glion's customer service has really let me down and been awful. They don't reply until multiple follow up emails have been sent.

You can order your scooter directly from Glion and choose ship to the UK but it looks like it will cost ~USD200.
