Summary

The Kaabo Mantis King GT is a well-regarded mid-range performance scooter that has built a loyal community of riders on Reddit, with overall sentiment leaning positive after Kaabo resolved early hardware issues. Early V1 units had documented problems including cracked necks and motor cut-outs, but Kaabo shipped replacement parts and redesigned the neck, and owners who pushed through the warranty process report the scooter has been flawless since. Riders consistently praise its balance of lightweight build (~74 lbs) and strong dual-motor performance, calling it one of the best all-around packages at its price point. It tends to attract daily commuters and riders who want real-world range with fun-factor rather than pure top-speed chasing. The community vibe around the MKGT is enthusiastic, with many owners recommending it as a first serious scooter.

Pros

  • Lightweight for its power class at around 74 lbs, making it noticeably easier to carry and maneuver compared to heavier dual-motor alternatives
  • Real-world range of 35–45 miles reported by lighter riders (~135 lbs) and 20–25 miles at harder riding for heavier users (~200 lbs), with consistent battery delivery and minimal voltage sag
  • Top speed reaches 48–51 mph indicated on a full charge, with riders confirming ~43–48 mph verified via third-party apps like Strava and Insta360
  • Sine wave controllers deliver smooth, predictable power delivery — riders describe it as analog-feeling control versus the harsh punch of square-wave setups
  • Excellent built-in features for the price: adjustable suspension, TFT display, hydraulic brakes, EABS (electric anti-lock braking), turn signals, and a dedicated road-lighting spotlight
  • Strong community support and parts availability; Kaabo proactively replaced defective V1 necks under warranty, and aftermarket upgrades (EXA shocks, PMT tires, alternate throttles) are well-documented by owners

Cons

  • V1 units had serious reliability issues — cracked necks and motor cut-outs affected early buyers, with one owner logging nearly all failures within the first 150 miles; newer units appear resolved but the reputation lingers
  • Water resistance is a real concern; at least one owner reported the scooter dying mid-ride twice during rain on short 2km commutes, making it unreliable in wet climates without extra precautions
  • Range drops sharply under heavy load — a rider at ~285 lbs combined (rider + gear + groceries) at full dual-motor load reported only 14–16 miles, well under 25% of claimed range
  • Stock rear fender is floppy and practically useless on earlier units, requiring replacement with a shorter included fender that then lacks water protection — an annoying out-of-box compromise
  • Throttle has dead space at the beginning, and the stock thumb throttle placement gets criticized; several owners have swapped it for aftermarket options like the Rion curve throttle
  • Competitors like the Nami Klima and VSETT 10+ are frequently cited as alternatives with better quality control reputations, tubeless tires, and comparable performance — some experienced riders actively recommend those over the MKGT

How Bad Was the V1, Really?

Early Mantis King GT owners dealt with cracked stems, motor cut-outs, and blown hydraulic seals — sometimes all before hitting 150 miles. Kaabo replaced parts under warranty, but the scooter's V1 reputation still shapes how new buyers approach it on Reddit.

74 Pounds of Performance That Punches Above Its Price

Reddit riders consistently call out the MKGT's weight-to-power ratio as its biggest selling point — lighter than most dual-motor scooters in this range while still hitting near-50 mph and delivering 35+ miles of real-world range for lighter riders.

Don't Ride It in the Rain

While most Reddit owners are enthusiastic daily riders, a recurring warning keeps surfacing: the Mantis King GT and water don't mix well. At least one owner had it cut out twice during rainy commutes, and others recommend covers and electrical varnishing for hub longevity in coastal or wet environments.

It's not a ticking time bomb unless you don't care. You need to determine which parts on your scooter are the new updated ones, and which ones are in need of replacement. Does your stem have a weld at the base, right above where it folds? Are you aware of the changes they made to the neck, and which version you have?

Probably the best all in one package out there.

Get the Nami klima, it's hands down better than the mantis king gt. It's very quick for a 60 volt, has sine wave controllers so it's super smooth and totally silent, has great ride quality, 10 inch tubeless tires so flats are a rare thing. $2099 for the 25ah base model.

I would definitely get a Vsett in your situation. Much more reputation for quality control and is a lot more tried and tested. It is also a lot easier to find parts especially after market modifications and mods. The king GT has had too many issues in terms of safety that it is really hard to recommend.

Their making a lot of scooters more powerful/faster than the materials can handle given the price point they have to work with. I ride Kaabo's but really only trust the dual fork models which after 2 years have been very reliable apart from the cone bearings which are shit due to not being sealed. 6 monthly tear down is a must imo.

I've tracked my distance on Strava and my speed through insta360 x3, my range on a different run was 35 miles and I still had 25% according to Voltage and my top speed was 51mph on the Mantis which was 48.5mph on my insta360 x3. Being on Maui both the range and speed are more than I need.

I love my Mantis King GT too! So light weight, and can still almost do 50 mph on a full battery! She's a special scooter that's for sure, so stable! I always recommend a MKGT to everyone as the best first scooter you could buy!

Rule of thumb: each week clean your scooter top to bottom, go over every screw, check folding parts. And make sure the integrity of your scoot is intact. You can make anything last if you take care of it and inspect it regularly.

You'll get even more range if you don't stay on profile 5 all the time. That uses max acceleration which of course drains your battery faster. I stay on 3 upon takeoff then toggle to 4 or 5 after I'm up to speed to get faster top speed.

Been seriously thinking about buying this scooter. $2,200 (Voromotors) is pretty cheap for what it offers. Only thing holding me back is I've never ridden a scooter with sine wave controllers or thumb throttle. Personally I like the punchiness of the controllers. Never had a issue with control at lower speed or maintaining a speed.

You can still purchase Kaabos in the US, it just doesn't have the wolf branding on it. It's just called the King GT or GTR now. Please stop spreading misinformation.

I have a Mantis King GT I bought from Voro 2 weeks ago. I put 300 miles on it already haha! I love it! Im 6' 205 lbs. I have zero regrets on my purchase. Dont get the street tires. They are crap. They dont give enough traction. The hybrid tires are wonderful! They work perfect on road and off. Even at 35+ mph.

I have 1400 miles on my mantis king gt and all is good! Just dont abuse it. Take care of it, lubricate bushings and pivot points, check your air in the tires. Dont curb hop or intentionally run over pot holes, dont off road it, drive slow over shit road sections and youll be good!

The clanking doesn't happen, the carry hook is rock solid. The screen can be rotated as well so it doesn't hit the back tire, when in carry mode. And as for the fender, the one they sent installed on the scooter is floppy, and that sucks, but they sent a shorter one that doesn't flop, though there is no water protection with it.

I was looking at all the other common scooters during my search... Mantis GT, all the other Kaabos, DualTrons, and of course the Vsetts. They all rode nicely. But then I went to one last dealer and he pointed me towards the Nami Klima. Best bang for the buck. It's also smaller than the Mantis, so easier to maneuver in tight spots.

I just bought a mantis plus x. If it breaks I'll warranty it. Ride a scooter and enjoy it.

Just buy it bro. I think at some point, the branding doesn't matter as long as you know you got a decent scooter.

I've had the King GT Pro for a few months now. It's great for intercity travel, and it's just straight up fun to drive it. It sure isn't cheap, but you definitely get what you pay for.

Scooters are a pain in the ass to maintain after a little while anyway, so yes technically it was. But if you're having fun then that's all that counts.

I love my MKGT. My g/f got us each one for my bday and I have had a blast riding it. The suspension is awesome and I love being able to adjust it based on what kind of terrain I'm riding. Only 220 miles on it so far, can't wait for more.

KaaboUSA is THE distributor for the US. idk why people keep acting like it's shady. It's recommended from Kaabo themselves to use KaaboUSA. They are completely transparent about everything. Literally everything is posted on their website. Also shipping takes ~1 week.

I was one of the first MKGT owners (pre ordered through VORO). My MKGT has been great mostly. Got about 500 miles now I think. I did have a pretty catastrophic front shock failure at about 100 miles. It basically fell apart and caused the tire to collapse on the fender essentially locking up the front wheel and sending me over the bars at about 15-20 mph. Got a little banged up, not too bad.

Apart from the initial fuckups, it is a good scooter after all. Good lightweight performance scooter.

The "Mantis" chassis (Mantis 8, Mantis 10 etc) is probably one of the most sold in the world for a reason!! Now, with all the upgrades like sinewave controllers, tft display and hydraulic suspensions it's even better.

I've never been a Kaabo fan because of the general complaints in this sub about reliability. If you do buy one I would go with Fluid over Voro.

I can't think of a better one for the price (1500). You can turn on eabs in the p settings, it will improve braking experience by a lot, not to mention it sounds better.

I gave it a full charge overnight and the chargers were both green. I also removed kick start and now acceleration is a lot better from a start. The turn signals and the excellent lights on the front side back and the spotlight for seeing the road ahead are great features.

I'm dropping a volt per mile. Voltage dip is 6v+ when using both motors. I'm riding very hard. Me (~195lbs), accessories (15 lbs), groceries in 50 liter bag (~40), 30amps to both motors, wide open throttle. 14-16 miles. Less than 25% of manufacturer claimed range seems too low even given I'm maxing it out.

I have a Vsett 10+ 25.6 amp and this thing is absolutely nuts!! Buy from Ewheels!! $2,190 but comes with a free steering damper which is super easy to put on. You are gonna need it when you are doing 45 mph!! Big difference from 19 mph, I promise you will not be disappointed with the Vsett!!!

After 1 year the King GT is awesome, a 2 level upgrade to the old one, love it. Would buy it again. Top speed with me on it 75km/h at battery 80%, ~20°C, ~115kg on it.

Mantis has had a bad wrap with quality control and even RK9 on YT had several issues with his. So I need to wait it out and see what happens with customer's experiences before I make a decision.

It's surely a great scooter.. BUT!! I see it's priced the same as VSETT10. And if I have to choose between those two, sry vsett wins - but it's just my opinion.

I had one of these for a couple of months last year until it was stolen. It died twice while riding it in the rain on different days. Very aggravating. They are not fun to push. In the rain.
