Summary

The Kugoo Kirin S2 Mini is a budget entry-level electric scooter positioned for riders looking for a lightweight, affordable option under €200. Reddit coverage of this specific model is extremely sparse, with the community mostly discussing higher-tier Kugoo Kirin models like the G2 Max and G3 Pro instead. What little discussion exists treats it as a basic urban runabout suited for short, flat commutes rather than a serious daily driver. The general Reddit consensus on budget Kugoo scooters is that they can work fine for casual use but require realistic expectations around build quality and range.

Pros

  • Lightweight and compact design makes it easy to carry on public transit or store in tight spaces
  • Sub-€200 price point puts it among the most affordable entry-level electric scooters available
  • Simple, low-maintenance design with minimal electronics that can be less prone to complex failures
  • Good fit for short, flat urban routes where performance demands are low
  • Brand has improved quality over time — Reddit users note Kugoo Kirin (now Kukirin) has upped their game in recent years

Cons

  • Almost no Reddit community presence or long-term ownership reports, making reliability hard to verify
  • Limited motor output and battery capacity make it unsuitable for hills, heavy riders, or longer commutes
  • No Bluetooth app connectivity on Kugoo Kirin models at this tier, confirmed by community reports
  • Budget build quality typical of sub-€200 scooters — users in this price range frequently report squeaky stems and loose parts over time
  • Very limited aftermarket support and spare parts availability compared to established brands like Ninebot or Xiaomi
  • At this price point, alternatives like used Xiaomi M365 or Ninebot entry models may offer more proven reliability

Is the S2 Mini Too Small for Real Commuting?

Reddit's electric scooter community barely mentions the S2 Mini — most discussions quickly move up to the G2 Max or G3 Pro for anyone needing actual commuter capability. If your route has hills or exceeds 10km, this scooter probably isn't the answer.

Under €200, But at What Cost?

The S2 Mini competes in the most budget-conscious corner of the market, where Reddit users generally warn that savings upfront often mean more headaches later. Community members consistently recommend stretching the budget to at least a Ninebot entry model for peace of mind.

Kugoo's Reputation Has Improved — But the S2 Mini Still Flies Under the Radar

Owners of higher-end Kukirin models report positive long-term experiences after the brand rebranded and improved quality control. The S2 Mini predates much of that, and the lack of Reddit ownership data means buyers are largely going in blind.

I know that kukirin isn't widely known to make well built scooters in the past. However I think that for about a year now, they upped their game and start making decent scooters, especially given the price range that they are sold for.

Scooters really aren't super sophisticated machines. You have a chassis, motors, and throttle controls. I don't overthink it. As with all things, you will get some products that don't meet quality standards.

You're not wrong. However I would point out go looking into any industry and most of what you find is complaints. Most happy people are quiet about it, and those who are unhappy tend to speak up about it.

If you're looking for a solid commuter scooter Ninebot Maxs and M365s have a proven track record. If my daily trip was out of range for them I'd very much consider an actual scooter before dumping money into a Chinese super scooter.

I have the G2 max and I think the biggest upgrades from G2 pro would be bigger wheels, more suspension travel, better folding mechanism lock and the bigger battery. I think power wise they are similar.

I ended up buying a Kugoo Kirin S1 simply because it was the cheapest thing about and I could mod the balls out of it when I get bored without worrying about the money I had lost. I never did end up modding it, it actually works really well.

G2 master is a dual motor scooter while the other 2 are single motor so if you're planning on going up a hill then get the master.

I have the USA version of the Kugookirin Kurkirin G3 Pro called the Roadrunner RS5+. It's an awesome scooter and you won't be disappointed if you purchase it. I get about 43km going 67kmh or 64km going 32kmh. It's also built like a beast and haven't had any problems with it besides air in my brake lines. I have 804km on it so far.

Ninebot max is the cheapest entry point into scooters that are somewhat decent. If you need something small to fold up and carry around, get an e-twow.

Every company has complaints made against them. Remember, happy people don't often leave reviews as they're too busy using the product they're happy with. I can tell you my Ninebot Max is perfectly fine and I'm glad I have it. It's a few years old now, and it's been through hell and back again, but it's been reliable and has never failed me.

I have the G2 Master and when in dual motor it has some wicked torque and climbs any hill with ease. I am 5'9" 95kg. At 25km an hour I've been able to get 60km range on a full charge.

I have this scooter too. It's almost new 1 week old. The stem began to creak. All screws are fully tightened, yet they squeak. The height adjustment mechanism produces sound from the inside. The noise is very annoying.

Hit that up with some grease like white lightning from a local hardware store. I have the g2 pro and have the same problem, squeaky. Hit it with grease everywhere, wipe away the excess grease, she will be quiet as hell.

I watched a few other reviews on YouTube, and I saw that they were with Kugoo G2 Pro, and now I can only find for purchase Kukurin G2 Pro. The displays are different, I think there are also some other minor changes. That makes me wonder - are these the same scooters, or is the Kukurin something like a replica?

Your first scooter will suck at something, but don't be afraid of it. My first scooter was so poor quality that it wouldn't have passed even as a side project in some engineering school. Had all the 'good' parts on paper, but build quality was sooo bad. It's impossible to know these things without proper research and many many reviews.

I have the G2 max and although I love it…and it's not terrible on hills. However, 30 degree climbs for any duration would push its limits for sure. Definitely get a dual motor.

I managed on my own. 1. The charger was defective, went to the store and got a different one which still works today. 2. There is no bluetooth connection for this model, no app. 3. Ended up searching model on YouTube and found a Chinese tutorial with broken English, still understandable.

They are actually three different brands: KUGOO, KugooKirin and KUKIRIN. All are part of one bigger holding company. KUGOO has its very limited number of models while KugooKirin and KUKIRIN have a wide range of overlapping models.

The offshoot brands tend to be more trouble than joy, despite their sometimes lower price tag with high performance. For big investments like scooters, maybe just pay the extra $400 for reliable quality and active customer service.

The G2 Max can speed up to 50 km/h. Just go through the internet guide on how to adjust the settings in the menu. Also, don't forget to switch between 1, 2, and 3 modes by pressing the power button one time. If your weight is below 100 kg, you have nothing to worry about.
