Summary

The Kugoo Kirin V1 is a compact budget e-bike that has carved out a niche among urban commuters and DIY enthusiasts, largely due to its shared platform with the Jetson Bolt Pro and DYU models. Real-world owners report ranges of 18–19km per charge rather than the advertised 30–45km, making it genuinely suited only for short hops under 15km. At around 400W and a 48V 7.5Ah battery, it tops out near 40km/h when new, settling around 36–37km/h with wear. Reddit's verdict is split: casual commuters and tinkerers swear by it, while practical buyers on longer routes or heavier builds find it underwhelming. It performs best for riders under 120kg who stick to flat urban terrain.

Pros

  • Compact size makes it easy to maneuver through traffic gaps and carry on public transport — ideal for last-mile urban commuting
  • Top speed of up to 40km/h when new gives it a punchy performance advantage over similarly priced mini e-bikes
  • Massive DIY and modding community around the shared Jetson Bolt/DYU platform means custom batteries, controllers, and brake upgrades are well-documented
  • Durable enough for heavy riders — one user reported 3,000km at 120kg with only pad, brake, and flat tire replacements
  • Budget-friendly entry point with genuine longevity when maintained; battery health reportedly stays at 80–90% past 3,000km
  • Suspension seat and stem make two-up riding (adult + child) surprisingly comfortable for short distances

Cons

  • Real-world range of 18–19km falls far short of the advertised 30–45km, making 20km+ round trips risky without a recharge
  • Pedaling is described as 'very tiresome and slow' — it's not a practical backup when the battery runs out
  • Unusual curved down-tube battery form factor raises long-term serviceability concerns; replacement packs may be hard to source if the manufacturer discontinues them
  • Frame failures have been reported on similar platform bikes (Jetson Bolt Pro) for heavier riders, and Kugoo's max weight rating of 120kg is a firm ceiling
  • Wiring and controller replacement are non-trivial — the shared platform means parts are available but diagrams are scarce, and a botched repair can kill the battery
  • Customer support from some regional resellers is poor, with reports of ignored warranty claims and paint chip disputes left unresolved

18km of Real Range in a 45km Package

The single most common complaint from V1 owners is the gap between advertised and actual range. Multiple riders report 18–19km per charge in real conditions, which is roughly half the top-end advertised figure. If your commute is under 10km each way, you're fine — push beyond that and you're gambling.

The Most Modded Mini E-Bike on Reddit

Thanks to its shared DNA with the Jetson Bolt Pro and DYU, the Kirin V1 has become a favorite canvas for DIY builders. Custom 15s5p battery packs, 2000W controllers, hydraulic brakes, and BMX handlebars — the modding community has turned this budget commuter into a legitimate performance project bike.

Surprisingly Tough at 120kg — If You Stay Flat

One owner logged nearly 3,000km at the maximum rated weight of 120kg with only consumable replacements. The caveat is terrain: the 400W motor and small battery struggle on hills, and the frame's limits become more relevant on inclines. Keep it flat and light, and it holds up well beyond expectations.

I have kugoo kirin v1(b2). 48v- 7a- 400w. Almost 3000km so far. I've changed pads, brakes and few flats. That's all. Battery is at 80-90% still. I'm 120kg, never had an issue.

My scooter had shipment damage and they sent me replacement parts without hesitation. Not sure where you bought yours as the customer support I've spoken to was really helpful.

There is absolutely no way that little motor and 7.5Ah battery is providing that kind of distance.

Kukirin is a good scooter. For what you are doing you may consider the weight if it's a commuter scooter.

Just bought a G2 Master from them, came with a faulty charger and every attempt to engage with them to source a replacement has fallen on deaf ears. They will take your money and then ignore you if you have any issues. I have just wasted €873 that could have been spent on a working scooter. BUYER BEWARE!

I've got a G2 max with a few hundred on it. Fantastic scooter. Suspension has recently gotten a little squeaky, but that should be easy to fix. My only complaint is the cruise control is difficult to engage. I'd buy another one in a heartbeat though.

I have a Kukirin M4 pro with 1500km on it and it's been going great, would recommend the brand. I'm in Europe.

Yes, it definitely does what it's supposed to, however I want to sell it — it is simply too powerful. It makes no sense to ride at 70 km/h on a scooter. I have been using it limited to 40 km/h. Also forget about folding it to carry it for any distance — apart from weighing 40kg there's no way to lift it without taking damage, there's nowhere to grip.

I have a G2 pro and the Q06, I love them. They're solid scooters for the price. 1000 miles on Q06 (30+ mph usually).

Yeh 'garbage' if u a 300 lbs fat lump.. then yeh. Depends on EBike application.. I've had mine nearly a year now. Doing school run and commute..on and off public transport.. requires less storage as it's small.. keeping up and overtaking cars, Small enough to fit between gaps swiftly and safely. 4 people I know have bought them and loving them. Well recommended for those under 120kg.

Could hit almost 40kmh when it was new. Now goes up to 36-37 kmh, with a lighter rider, can still go up to 40kmh. I like the brand.

When the time comes to replace that battery and the manufacturer no longer sells them, you may find yourself out of luck due to the unusual form factor. Never seen a curved down tube with a curved battery case. This looks like a case of form over function and that usually leads to disappointment in my experience.

Shiva Sapkota and loads of other people have modded this bike (Jetson bolt pro.) It is one of the most modded bikes I've ever seen, including battery.

I have about 1000 miles on mine, it's a good scooter but I wish I would have gotten something with a dual motor, it's pretty fast but it takes a while to gain speed.

It's wild to me how one design can be marketed under so many different brand names!

If you live at 10 km distance and need to go back and forth, then it's 48v 7.5ah battery may have not enough capacity. Mine usually goes 18-19 km with one battery charge. Riding with pedals is very tiresome and slow at this bike. Although it's probably one of the best inexpensive e-bikes for it's price.

Did anyone but me buy it? I really like it, just need to know which braking pads I need to buy after 1300km.

Aren't these kind of bikes just disposable? For $275 you can just get a whole new one.

This costs £600 and goes considerably faster than 15mph. I also have the replacement controller already. I just need to know how to wire it up.

This is not the same as a Jetson — looks the same, that's it. Bigger motor, 48v battery, so different controller with Bluetooth module.

Never buy one, I got the G2 Max and the back brake is completely dead, worst electric scooter of my life.

I have the G2 pro 2024 and love it. I'm a little mad that I didn't buy the max as one motor is a bit weak going uphill. But at flat surfaces it works just fine. And I have had 0 problems so far 3 months owning it.

Beware of Kukirinscootercanada. They send scooters out with imperfections like paint chips. The boxes will come in perfect condition but once opened, you will find paint chips. They say it has nothing to do with manufacturer and all to do with shipping even with the box not damaged. At the end of it all, they won't even provide simple paint to cover up the paint chip.

Just got one as well and dude that thing rips on flat roads!! I'm on the lighter side at around 70kg and she does struggle a bit uphill but I'm getting 58/60km/h on the display and I came from a Kqi2 at 28 km/h.

After months of researching I finally started my first battery build. At first it was going to be square but I simply couldn't fit enough cells for what I wanted so here we are. Building 63v (60v?) 15s 5p 75 cells. Using online app to arrange/group different capacities.

The little bit of 'hassle' is worth the $400 discount from the more expensive brands, which is exactly why they're able to make it so cheap.
