Summary

The Dualtron Storm is a high-powered electric scooter from Minimotors built for experienced riders who want extreme torque and serious top-end speed. Reddit sentiment is decidedly mixed: the scooter earns respect for its raw performance and Minimotors' long track record as a brand, but users consistently call it overpriced, mechanically troubled, and outclassed by newer competitors at the same price point. Common complaints center on the stem wobble requiring an expensive aftermarket damper, a rear footplate that moves with the suspension, and real-world top speeds that fall 10–15 mph short of advertised figures. The Storm Limited addressed some of the original's motor and battery amperage problems, but many community veterans now actively steer buyers toward the Thunder 2, Ultra 2, or Nami Burn-E 2 Max instead.

Pros

  • Monstrous torque and acceleration — owners describe the launch as 'slingshot on rocket fuel,' making it one of the fastest-feeling scooters on the market regardless of top-speed debates
  • Removable, swappable battery design on the Storm variant is a genuine practical advantage for commuters who want to carry a spare or charge inside
  • Minimotors has been manufacturing scooters since 1999, giving the Storm a reliable parts ecosystem and dealer network compared to newer or lesser-known brands
  • Range holds up in real-world use — riders report the large battery pack gives the Storm a meaningful range advantage over many competitors, especially the Storm Limited
  • Built tough enough for daily abuse: multiple owners report 2,000–3,000+ miles with no major mechanical failures beyond normal wear items
  • The Storm Limited iteration specifically adds a stabilizer and addresses the original's motor magnet and controller amperage shortcomings, making it a notable improvement over gen 1

Cons

  • Real-world top speed consistently comes in 10–15 mph below advertised figures — users report 47–51 mph where Minimotors claims 60–65 mph, a long-running complaint that erodes trust in the brand's specs
  • Stem wobble and creaky handlebars are a known flaw requiring a $500+ aftermarket fix (wider bars + steering damper) just to make the scooter feel stable at high speed
  • Square-wave controllers produce jerky, unrefined acceleration compared to sine-wave competitors like the Nami Burn-E 2 Max — and they run louder and less efficiently
  • Water intrusion is a documented risk: at least one owner reported a fried battery from light rain exposure, and Minimotors warranty reportedly does not cover moisture damage to the display
  • Competitors offer more features or better value at the same price — the Thunder 2/3 and Nami Burn-E 2 Max are frequently cited as superior alternatives, with the Ultra 2 called 'Dualtron's best kept secret' by longtime owners
  • The rear footplate is mechanically linked to the suspension, meaning it moves independently under bumps — an ergonomic quirk that annoys riders used to a fixed deck

50 MPH? More Like 47 on a Good Day

The Storm's advertised top speed is one of the most debated topics in the Dualtron community. Owners across multiple threads report real-world peaks of 47–51 mph, with only lighter riders or tailwind conditions nudging past 50. Minimotors has acknowledged motor magnet and battery amperage issues in the original — the Limited attempts to fix it, but skepticism remains.

A $4,000+ Scooter That Still Needs $500 in Upgrades to Ride Properly

Nearly every experienced Storm owner mentions the same aftermarket shopping list: a steering damper, wider handlebars, and often PMT tires. Without these, the stem wobbles at speed and the ride feels unfinished for a flagship-priced machine. Reddit's consensus is that the Storm's sticker price doesn't include what it actually costs to ride it confidently.

The Storm Has a Cult Following — And a Growing List of People Who Left It

Longtime Minimotors fans still defend the Storm's torque and brand pedigree, but a noticeable pattern emerges in recent threads: experienced riders who owned a Storm often recommend something else for their next purchase. The Thunder 2, Ultra 2, and Nami Burn-E 2 Max are named repeatedly as better long-term bets — a rare admission for a brand with this level of loyalty.

I always advise my clients to wait about 6 months before picking up a new Dualtron model. Ultra, Thunder & Spider also got recalled in Korea when they were first launched and it looks like Minimotors need to work out the kinks in many areas with this scooter, too. IMO, within Minimotors lineup, Korean version of Thunder is still the king, for now.

Hello, I've had my gen 1 Victor for over 4yrs. 3158 miles on it. I have never had an issue with overheating and I'm consistently running at the top speed of 45-50 mph. The only way I can imagine the motors having the possibility of overheating is if you're putting them under peak strain for too long.

If you refer to the Dualtron Storm with a removable battery, then yes, it's a great choice. We've had no problems with it, and our customers are happy. They find it easy to use, especially because the battery can be taken out easily. It's also simple to repair, but that's not needed often. This scooter is both convenient and reliable.

Not really. It's a bit of a lemon in Dualtron lineup, actually. The stem is creaky, floppy and low, handlebars are too narrow for such a beast scooter, acceleration is jerky without an exponential throttle mod, motors are loud, its wobbliness requires adding an aftermarket steering damper, the footrest moves with the rear wheel and the controller in it tends to overheat. If you see it for around $2000, which on the occasion it may drop to, then it might be worth considering.

Unfortunately, minimotors doesn't seem to indicate nominal power for any of their Dualtron scooters. As for controllers, unless indicated otherwise, assume the usual all or nothing style controllers. My best guess for nominal power would be around 2k watts.

Dualtron is a very good brand, and they make great scooters. However, there are many other options that offer much more 'bang-for-buck' value. The Inmotion RS or the Nami Burn-e 2 Max are both solid competitors to the Storm. For these high-end scooters, wait for Black Friday deals. You'll save hundreds.

They are the oldest scooter manufacturer. Been around since 99. The biggest complaint is that they are expensive. And sometimes people get a lemon. But every brand has lemons.

I have a storm and no they are not worth it. When it came out it had a rated speed of 65. I had trouble just getting over 50. A lot of other people as well. It has monster torque and will get going pretty fast though. Then the storm limited came out and I thought cool maybe this will be better. Nope still a dud from what I read. Don't know if they fixed the problems. But I lost faith in dualtron. The eye3 is getting dated when other scooters have a nicer display. The brakes aren't that great.

Specs never match real world use. And I doubt the seller swapped batteries. You should have a similar pack to mine. Brand/quality wise. If the scooter's condition looks like it's fairly new it's probably fine.

I have the storm. It's true it goes about upper 40. On a good day with a tail wind I can get it past 50 a little. There is a video of the storm top speed on YouTube. Which goes up to 56 if your a 150 lbs. which is probably where they get their figures from. It's a Korean brand and Korean people are generally lighter.

As they say while older you know what problems a Dualtron storm will have. So long term you already have some idea how they will perform. Do you really plan on going 40mph+ on a scooter?

Well first of all you should always go by voltage and not the percentage number. They are usually not correct/precise and mislead a lot of DT owners. Next, not sure if you're using a fast charger but your best bet to get a real feel of the battery is to deplete it to around 15-20% (going by voltage NOT the percentage on the display). Next use the standard, slow charger to charge back to full capacity. Do this a second time. This will ensure all your cells are balanced and charged correctly.

Charge until charger goes green. You aren't the first to say that the display shows 100% too soon. I am suspecting the EY3 is set to the wrong voltage, or maybe doesn't even really support the new higher voltage quite right. 84.0V is 'full' but you are unlikely to charge to that, generally goes green at 82.0-83.0V for safety reasons. Green means no more charge is happening.

Dualtron thunder 2 is faster than the thunder 3 (not in speed but in acceleration), the thunder 3 has better range and a newer design. Pretty sure both are water resistant, but both thunders blow out the x in terms of acceleration and speed. But if you want the fastest and most powerful, then dualtron storm limited with the double tap feature is what you're looking for.

Dualtron Storm, water intrusion into the battery case, fried. Never abused, exposed to light rain. Speed wobble without the 500 dollar damper installed. Switched to a Teewing XTR black and could not be happier.

The only complaint with it is that the handle bearings wear out easily. Maybe you suffer from a handle post bar that rocks back and forth.

I got 120kmph out of the storm up, not for long but it's there though who actually wants that full time. After recent warranties Sarga I'd steer well clear of dualtron. We live in a humid climate one I checked with suppliers as being fit for dualtron use warranty doesn't cover moisture in display so that's useless. Northern Territory Australia can only use in cool morning late afternoon or over heats.

Dualtron has a reputation of being a great heavyweight scooter. What a disappointment that this new supposed beast is in reality a wimp.

It will show 100% charge even tho its only actually 80% charged. Google what your max voltage will be for a 72v system. I think it's around 82v. The battery level on display is not accurate.

Nice beautiful scooter but to me they are over priced I own a dualtron storm 1gen I paid almost $5000. It does have lot of torque power the take off is like a sling shot on rocket nitro fuel.

I would just consider a Nami, Bronco, or Wolf King GT since a scooter of that power with square wave controllers is going to be unridable. Square wave 72v scooters are known for being super jerky, loud, and inefficient with battery.

The storm limited is a better all around scooter IMO. I have a soft spot for Weped but between the overheating issues and lack of basic features such as an odometer, speedometer, easily accessible P settings, etc. it's made it hard for me to justify buying one. The overheating issues can be solved by adding controller fans but I worry about getting dust or water inside.

At this price point your biggest issue should be reliability and customer support as well as a reputable dealer. Trust me when you're spending $3000-$5000 on the scooter you want to be able to get good customer support from wherever you buy it in case you get a dud or lemon. I would recommend something like a dualtron ultra or storm from mini motors rather than some of the sketchy dealers. After 45-50mph the speed difference is minimal.

And I the only one who's not a fan of the dualtron suspension system? The suspension is a cartridge not your typical spring/hydraulic setup. Most people don't seem to have an issue with it. But another gripe is the lack of sine wave controllers. Otherwise they're beautiful machines and once they incorporate both these features I would purchase.

Ever since minimotors moved their plant to China their QC and overall build quality has went down a little. I may be a little biased but the D 2 and Ultra are their best.

Don't get a storm, I've had 3 and nothing but problems. 1 controller exploded, 1 stem broke while going 30mph. The back foot plate broke 4 times. Stiff shocks stock. Depending on your situation and if weight is an issue I'd look into the thunder 3 or another brand. Many of these scooters aren't built to last unless you customize it or go with a model that has a good track record.

OG Victor owner closing in on 5000 miles. Lots of upgrades (maguras being the biggest one), one flat. I'm on my 4th set of tires, but always change them out of an abundance of caution rather than them needing to be changed. Personally I would never buy a Storm, way too many problems. You can't go wrong with a Thunder 3 or a Victor Limited though. The Ultra 2 is Dualtron's best kept secret.

Performance drops when you drain the battery. At around 40% battery left one will feel the controller throttling the scooter down to conserve battery and prevent cut off.

I have been riding my dualtron achilleus for nearly two years now. My biggest problem with it has been the suspension being too stiff. I have changed the suspension cartridges to softer ones. No overheating issues and I also did extra waterproofing for deck and all of the connection points. If I'm buying a new scooter, it will be a teverun 7260R.

I've been riding my Thunder 2 for a little over a year, 2,100 miles, I haven't had many issues besides the stem having play when I don't use an impact driver to secure the 6 bolts. Aside from that have been super happy with it.

I have a dualtron storm. I think the suspension is odd to work with. I got used to it now but if you have knee problems, it's gonna bother you with all the bumps. Also I got maxed out speed at 50 mph downhill. Range is amazing though and I can't imagine how amazing it will be on the ltd.

A few things: 72v is 'nominal' charge — your peak voltage will be closer to 84v. Charge it till it turns green. Second, make sure your tires are inflated to the recommended PSI. If they are low they will significantly decrease your range. Third, as you stated the battery shows its more depleted when you arrive to work and then goes back up — that's completely normal behavior for lithium cells.
