Summary

The Dualtron Ultra 2 is a high-performance dual-motor electric scooter aimed at experienced riders who want serious range and speed without reaching the absolute top tier of the Dualtron lineup. Reddit sentiment is generally positive among owners, who praise its real-world range, power delivery in eco mode, and relative value compared to pricier models like the Thunder 3 or Storm. However, the community acknowledges it has genuine limitations: no IP rating, square-wave controllers, and a weight that makes portability a non-starter. In 2025, some users are starting to question whether the platform is showing its age against newer competitors.

Pros

  • Real-world range of 50+ miles reported by owners riding in hilly terrain, with the 72V 40Ah battery holding 60-70% charge after 40km of mountain riding in eco mode
  • Dual 3300W motors (6600W combined) deliver speed that most owners say is more than enough — many ride exclusively in eco mode because turbo is overkill for daily use
  • Deck design with the kick tail extending over the rear tire gives taller riders (6'5"+ reported) noticeably more standing room than comparable models
  • Upgrade-friendly platform: aftermarket MHM stem clamps, PMT tires, throttle modulators, and heatsink kits are widely available and community-supported
  • Priced under $3,000 for a 72V dual-motor setup puts it in strong value territory compared to the Thunder 3 and Storm at similar or higher price points
  • Voltage sag is manageable — riders report only ~10% drop climbing steep hills, recovering once at the top

Cons

  • No IP rating and no water resistance warranty — Dualtron explicitly voids warranty for water damage, making it a poor fit for commuters who encounter rain regularly
  • Square-wave controllers produce a jerky, torquey throttle response at low speeds that some riders find uncomfortable, especially compared to sine-wave alternatives on competitors like Nami
  • Weighs close to 50kg, making it essentially non-portable — users explicitly warn against expecting to carry it up stairs or transport it casually
  • The Thunder 2 and Thunder 3 offer cartridge suspension, tubeless tires with removable rims, and better cable management — the Ultra 2 uses tube tires with split rims, which is a meaningful maintenance disadvantage
  • By 2025, some community members consider the platform dated, pointing to rubber cartridge suspension and square-wave controllers as signs Dualtron is behind competitors like Teverun
  • Battery is not removable — only the Dualtron Storm and City lines offer removable battery options, limiting charging flexibility for delivery riders or apartment dwellers

Can You Ride It in the Rain?

Water resistance is the Ultra 2's most debated real-world limitation. Owners are split between those who've ridden through winters and drizzle with no issues after sealing cable ports, and Dualtron's own official position that warranty is voided by any water damage.

The Best Dualtron Value — Until You Compare Suspensions

At under $3,000 for a 72V dual-motor setup, the Ultra 2 looks like a deal. But the Thunder 2 and Thunder 3 bring cartridge suspension, tubeless tires, and better cable management that Reddit veterans say justify the price difference for serious long-term ownership.

Tall Riders Have a Secret Advantage Here

The extended deck design with the controller positioned over the rear tire gives riders over 6 feet noticeably more foot room than most competitors. Multiple tall owners on Reddit specifically cited this as the deciding factor in choosing the Ultra 2 over the Thunder.

I got the ultra 2, 72v 40ah version. Yesterday I did 40km with 1500m elevation in the mountains and had a good 60-70% battery. Was riding in eco mode around 40kph though. Speed is insane, I always ride it in eco mode because it's really enough. Full motorcycle gear is a must imo.

Have ridden all 3 (I work in a reseller). Of your choices the Storm (84V) has the most potential for max range. When I say potential, range optimization is also a SKILL that has to be learned. You can't expect to be gunning the throttle and expect no reduction in range.

T2 hands down. Thunder has replaceable suspension cartridges on both front and rear, adjustable deck height, better cable management and tubeless tires with removable rims. Ultra 2 uses tubes and split rims.

Dualtron is behind the times. Rubber cartridge suspension, square wave controllers, and a lack of water protection make their scooters a rough sell in 2025.

Doesn't rain much in my area but we do get some drizzle rain during winter season so I sealed all openings where cables go to the deck with white silicone. So far all good.

The controllers are on the rear of the newest dualtron. The only thing I don't like about this is that if the wheel bounces up, it might hit that heat sink.

My Ultra2 gets around 50 miles of real-world range +/- and I live in the mountains and ride hard. As for lugging them? I wouldn't. I think the Ultra 2 is the lightest of those and even that is a pain in the ass, it's really a roller or lift it up a threshold if it's one person kind of thing.

Ultra 2 is much lighter. That's the main argument, I think, for choosing the ultra. Thunder 2 is better otherwise.

At 6' 5", the Ultra 2 was a no-brainer. The kick tail/controller over the back tire really extends the length of the deck.

I'm biased but Thunder 2. I LOVE my T2! I just put some PMTs on mine and it grips beautifully on turns.

I'd not advise getting Dualtron models at that point (kinda long in the tooth by now...), if you want stuff from Minimotors get a Teverun instead IMO.

They're dry weather only. They're not like motorcycles and cars. Warranty's void if it's water damage.

I've been riding my ultra 2 (first one) for over 3 years 12000km in the winter and light rain with no problems.

I just got one recently and I love mine. I got the UP version from Voro for ~2400. The clamp had to be upgraded Day 1, I put the MHM clamp and it transformed the stem to rock solid. So far rock solid, very fast.

I bought the scooter but minimotors wanted to install new heatsink before delivery. I believe it's bolt on and was done at minimotors.

If I'm spending 3k plus on a scooter, it has to have some sort of IP rating imo. I don't ride in the rain, but commute to work and don't want to worry about precipitation if I were to ever get caught. I test rode a Vsett 10+ which uses the same square wave controllers on Dualtrons and found the scooter a little too jumpy for my liking.

Square wave controllers, lots of torque, and squeaky stems. But good quality overall. Maybe get the thunder 2 or 3 or maybe the ultra 2 for the range.

I can tell you for sure that the Storm Ltd has a range of 112 km on the second gear with eco mode on (approx 44 kmph) and 100 km with hybrid driving, and also between 76 and 86 km with mostly turbo. Speaking with people with Thunder 2 and X2 Up, their range is not near this good.

The new storm limited should definitely have the best range, considering it has an 84v 45ah battery. According to minimotors website, it's also lighter than the thunder 3 while having the same stem, ey4 screen/throttle, and 4 piston brakes.

I still prefer the Thunder series. The design is solid, the maintenance is easier and the parts are cheaper and more separate. The storm is wonderful but they do have some maintenance specialty needed. The Thunder which comes in 2 separate components so you save money if you just break one.
