Summary

The Vsett 8+ is a compact dual-motor commuter scooter with a loyal following on Reddit, praised primarily for its zero-maintenance solid tires, reliable build quality, and dual suspension setup. Riders who've clocked hundreds to thousands of miles on it consistently report that it just works — no flats, minimal upkeep, solid frame. That said, the community is split: longtime owners love its practicality, while newer buyers often feel the 8-inch tires are too small for rough urban roads, and the scooter's aging tech stack (QS-style LCD throttle, drum brakes, no NFC) draws comparison to newer competitors. It's best suited for lighter commuters who prioritize maintenance-free riding over maximum performance or ride comfort.

Pros

  • Dual solid tires mean truly zero flat risk — multiple owners with 1,000–2,000km report never dealing with a puncture, which is a genuine quality-of-life win for daily commuters
  • Dual motor on the 8+ handles steep hills reliably, with adjustable acceleration (P-settings 1–5) letting riders tune from smooth to punchy based on preference
  • Build quality holds up under heavy use — one owner used it for food delivery over 1,100 miles on rough roads and the motor never failed, which is impressive for a scooter in this price range
  • Dual suspension (front and rear) offsets much of the harshness from the solid tires, making city riding noticeably more comfortable than solid-tire scooters without suspension
  • Parts are easy to source from the seller or AliExpress, and the modular old-school design means straightforward repairs — no proprietary nightmare
  • At around $700–800, the Vsett 8+ punches above its weight for dual-motor, dual-suspension scooters — few alternatives offer the same combo at that price point

Cons

  • 8-inch tires are genuinely too small for rough streets — multiple owners explicitly warn that small bumps and potholes feel amplified, and one rider with 300 miles says they're constantly worried about wiping out
  • Advertised range is a fantasy: the 60–90km claim requires riding at 8mph with minimal load; real-world riders at normal speeds (25–30km/h) with average weight (75–90kg) consistently report 30–45km regardless of battery size
  • Wet and winter conditions are a hard no — solid 8-inch tires don't grip well on wet pavement, making rain riding genuinely risky, which is a significant limitation for year-round commuters
  • The folding handlebar locking mechanism loosens over time and needs regular tightening mid-ride, and the steering column can develop squeaks requiring monthly lubrication
  • Tech is dated compared to 2024–2025 competitors: QS-S4 LCD throttle, key ignition (no NFC), and drum brakes put it behind rivals like the Ninebot Max G2 that have modernized across the board
  • Rear solid tire replacement is a known hassle — local shops are reluctant to work on it, and DIY replacement is genuinely difficult, making long-term ownership more painful than it looks upfront

The 'Zero Maintenance' Promise Has a Catch

Solid tires mean no flats, but Reddit owners warn the suspension squeaks monthly, the handlebar clamp loosens mid-ride, and rear tire replacement when it finally wears is a shop-refusing nightmare. It's low maintenance, not no maintenance.

Reddit Still Recommends It — With a Very Specific Buyer in Mind

The community consensus is clear: the Vsett 8+ makes sense if you're a lighter rider on smooth city streets who hates flats and doesn't need to ride in rain. Anyone heavier, on rougher roads, or expecting max range should look at the 9+ or newer competitors.

Surprisingly Good as a Beater, Surprisingly Bad in Bad Weather

Multiple owners use the Vsett 8+ as a dedicated beater scooter for short errands and local trips — and it excels there. But the 8-inch solid tires on wet pavement are genuinely dangerous, and Reddit is unambiguous: this is a fair-weather city scooter, not an all-conditions commuter.

Vsett has been a popular scooter in this sub for years based on good value and good overall build quality. Is the Vsett 8 still relevant in 2023? I think personally there are better options. Riding on 8" tires is not going to be as safe or stable as riding on 10"+ tires. Vsett is still using the outdated QS style throttles as well. So while the scooter is still solidly built, it's outdated at this point.

Sounds like you've thoroughly abused the scooter. If you do try to sell it probably best not to include this story in the ad.

I love my vsett8. It is fast, it goes far, it is well built and that thing has almost 1k miles on it and the only thing I've ever done is check tire pressure. It even poured on me many times while riding. Held up just fine.

Let's be honest here for a second, how often are you going to look at the display while riding? Not so often so don't let it deter you from purchasing a great scooter. My Vsett has that same display and I don't have a complaint other than the brightness when the sun is out but even then I don't really check the display. Also, you can purchase an upgraded display that's plug and play if you wanted to be fancy.

Don't see why it would not be a viable option, its got dual suspension, goes 25 mph, and is built well. Just be aware that the rear solid tire will not be as comfortable/cushioned as the Max you currently own.

Actually impressive that the scooter still works! I'd call that a positive review.

If you read the small print it has a lot to do with weight of the rider, surface, gear and speed. They actually test it on the lowest settings going like 8 mph. Or some bs like that. Which not one person in real life would actually do. So yea...you'll really never get that range.

Interesting, I've had my zero 8 for nearly 3 yrs and 1200 miles and counting and required no maintenance. Not even a tire change or flat. My rear fender also broke off but no biggie.

My 8 is an absolutely beast and I wouldn't trade her for the world. Been my commuting scooter for a minute and she's seriously yet to disappoint. A lot of people don't like the solid tire and it's size but honestly the suspension offsets the issues. Highly recommend.

Yup, about half the stated range is normal. Mine should do 50 miles but 25 is much more realistic.

Are 5 year old scooters still worth it? Heck yeah. That's like saying you won't get a classic muscle car because it doesn't have gps and backup cam. Is that really what you need? I'd buy an 8 if it fit my needs and budget.

My qualms with the Vsett 8 are the same as the T8 series. That rear solid tire nobody really talks about replacing it or when they do it is full on right regret. I have a T8 and think man I don't want to have to deal with this because the shops in my area that do scooter repair are like um.. Sign the best effort waiver. And it might cost you more if it takes them longer.

I'm in a similar boat, but I'm worried the vsett 8 will disappoint. It's not only that the tires are solid, but they're also small at 8 inches. I'm not sure the suspension makes up for that.

I have a Vsett 8 with 300 miles and always reply to a lot of posts so check those out. To summarize it in one point: the wheels are too small and you will be constantly be worrying about wiping out because of a tiny bump.

I find that the folding handlebar locking mechanism have a tendency to loosen so make sure to tighten it before, and during a ride. It will wobble a little if it's not tightened correctly. There's also not a lot of room to put accessories on it so maybe get an extender bar if you plan to have many accessories (phone holder, lights, etc).

Ive had mine for just about 1000km now and theres a few things that just really annoy me like the 8" solid rear tire, the drum brakes, and my steering column thing is very loud unless I lubricate it like once a month, prolly gonna upgrade to a kukirin g2 master or something soon. Besides those things I dont like about the scoot though, its a very nice frame in my opinion, love the lights, love the weight, and love the suspension.

Yeah tires are very small, I have an 8+ and that is my biggest complaint about them. I would only ever suggest it for road riding in nice conditions, no wet pavement ever — the tires are too small and the solid tires just don't grip enough.

Absolutely normal range. Scooter manufacturers test range by calculating how many watt-hours its motors use per mile on a machine in their factory, not with actual people riding them. Then they add a few extra miles just to hype it up even more.

I'm probably getting about 40-45km out of my vsett 8+. I weigh less though (75kg) and live in a warm country.

Manufacturers grossly overestimate the range of their scooters. To get the full range you typically need to go no more than 16km/h, weigh about 68kg, and have an outside temperature of at least 15c. So all three of those factors are working against you in your situation.

I have driven Vsett 8 for 2000km so I can give my opinions on that. I'm a heavy rider around 120kg. While the suspension is very nice, it requires some maintenance to keep it squeak-free. It also makes front feel more unresponsive and gives some stem wobble. The 19.2Ah battery I got has spoiled me for almost everything else. I did have to get a 2nd charger if I need a fast charge.

I went Vsett 8+ as my first scooter after a lot of research. Seller from the same country so easier to get support. Known brand with a big community. Parts are easy to get from the seller, or Aliexpress. Very little maintenance needed with both solid tires and drum brakes. Dual motor for the steep hills in the area.

I have the vsett 8+ and definitely have no regrets. The acceleration is pretty good I reckon especially with dual motor turned on. It's adjustable in the P settings and I have it set at 2 (maximum is 5) which gives smooth acceleration. Probably the biggest consideration is that it has solid tyres, which can give a rougher ride. Doesn't bother me too much though.

Nothing wrong. Sounds normal because of the fact that it's 16Ah and dual motor (dual motors consumes more battery). Even with the Vsett 8 single motor, you could only expect 20mi out of a 16Ah battery — I get 27mi out of a 21Ah battery as a 230lb rider.

Given 768Wh battery that's about 25 Wh/km, which is fairly normal at that speed and chilly weather conditions. If you need to go further... go slower.

Dual motors is fun and responsive while single motor is a bit sleepy. No flats is an excellent feeling, the suspension compensates for a smooth ride — no downtime fixing flats or waiting for tire supply chain. It's quick to respond and very good on hills.

Old-school scooter tech (QS-S4 LCD style throttles, keys instead of NFC, etc) has its merit. Modularity equals easy change out of defective parts.

I do own both the Vsett 8 and 9+. I use the 8 for local trips to the store and the 9+ for going to the next town over from me. Both are excellent scooters but the 9 is on sale at a ridiculous price right now at RevRides. You can't go wrong with vsett.

It sounds like you've done your research and understand the pros and cons of this scooter. The biggest downside I see is the very small tires on it so be very careful going over potholes. Otherwise I think you should be fine.

Just note that the top speed is highly dependent on rider weight and many manufacturers deliberately test with a very light rider in order to juke the stats. Many test on a 140lb rider, so that would be part of the issue.

Personally, I'd go up 100-200 dollars and five pounds if you are able to and get the Vsett 9+. Has all the power and range you want plus a little extra. I find the throttle to be very comfortable for long rides even though it is a slightly older one.

I'm trying to decide between the 8 and the 8+. The extra weight of the 8+ is a con, but the option to turn on the extra motor is a big plus. The plan was to ride it mostly in single motor mode and use both for steeper hills.

In my experience, VSETT 8 tops out at around 24 mph. Maybe 25 for a 12 year old. If he wants to ride the scooter faster than that, I'd recommend a 9+. Otherwise, the 8 is a really great ride. I had one for a while before upgrading to 9+.

I really like my Vsett 8+, I haven't had any desire to buy a new scooter but I have stopped looking. I bought it a year and a half ago I think and ride it a lot when weather is nice. I'm 200ish pounds and it is yet to fail a hill, but I do believe the 8 is single motor? So it may not be as good. The ride would totally be more comfortable and handle better in wet condition if it didn't have the solid tires but I have had to do 0 maintenance on it which is nice.

Vsett 8+ is perfect for me - acceleration set to 3 gives me smooth, responsive take off. I'm a city errand rider with frequent recreational drives. I've taken some grass steep climbs with no issues. I also carry it up a flight of steep stairs so anything heavier is not an option. No flats is an excellent feeling, the suspension compensates for a smooth ride - no downtime fixing flats or waiting for tire supply chain.

Just did a range test with my vsett8 21ah — 35km is what I got. It sucks tbh, bought the 21ah version for the longer range and assumed it would reach 50km as my kugoo g booster does, but guess not. Will try to buy another lightweight scooter with claimed long range... emove cruiser next.

I absolutely love the two motors on the plus variant. Now that it's a bit hotter out I get about 40-45km range on singles, and on varied terrain/motormode I get about 25-35km. After using both motors it's honestly really boring to use just one motor, the fun alone in the two motors is worth it in my opinion.

I have a Vsett 8 and ride the streets of Oakland, which is about as bad as it gets, and it performs quite admirably. I love it. But I got mine for $599, sort of putting it in a different price category.
