Summary

The TurboAnt X7 Max is a budget-friendly folding electric scooter aimed at casual commuters and first-time e-scooter buyers who prioritize having a removable stem battery. Reddit sentiment is notably mixed — satisfied users tend to be apartment dwellers or flat-terrain commuters who value the detachable battery convenience, while critical voices point to chronic reliability issues, poor hill-climbing performance, and a weak motor that underwhelms anyone coming from a tuned or higher-spec scooter. The brand has a contested reputation on r/ElectricScooters, with some longtime users reporting years of trouble-free riding and others dealing with motor failures, battery problems, and repeated flat tires within months of purchase. Customer support is generally described as responsive when things go wrong, though some users ended up replacing the scooter entirely. Overall, it occupies a niche defined more by its removable battery than by any performance strength.

Pros

  • Removable stem battery is genuinely useful for apartment dwellers or anyone without scooter-accessible charging — users call it a 'godsend' for charging flexibility without hauling the whole scooter
  • Elevated deck provides noticeably better ground clearance over curbs and street obstacles compared to lower-slung budget rivals
  • Holds 20 mph consistently on flat terrain, which is adequate for short campus commutes and flat urban routes
  • TurboAnt's customer support has replaced faulty motors and parts free of charge in multiple reported cases, with faster response times than expected for a budget brand
  • Replacement parts (tires, motors) are sold directly on the TurboAnt website, making DIY repair viable for mechanically inclined owners
  • Lightweight and foldable form factor works well for last-mile transit use cases — bus-to-work commutes and campus hopping are frequently mentioned as a sweet spot

Cons

  • 36V 350W motor cannot handle inclines at all — heavy or tall riders report near-total speed loss on any significant hill, a recurring theme across multiple threads
  • Pneumatic tubed tires with non-split rims are a maintenance headache: one user replaced the rear tire 7 times in a year and spent roughly $1,000 in upkeep on a $500 scooter
  • The stem-mounted battery creates a high center of gravity and handlebar wobble at speed — critics note this is a known engineering compromise compared to deck-mounted battery designs like the Ninebot Max
  • Battery connector quality is reported as poor, especially on earlier versions (VGA-style plug), and the battery can rattle loose from vibration without physical reinforcement
  • Motor failures (E1 error codes) have been reported within the first months of use by multiple owners, though TurboAnt has generally replaced them under warranty
  • For the same price range, alternatives like the Ninebot Max G30LP or NIU KQi2 Pro are consistently recommended by experienced community members as offering better build quality, stability, and long-term reliability

The Removable Battery Is Real — But Is It Enough?

Apartment renters and charging-constrained commuters genuinely love the X7 Max's detachable stem battery. But skeptics on Reddit argue that the convenience comes at the cost of a wobblier ride, dodgy connectors, and a center-of-gravity tradeoff that makes the scooter feel less planted than competitors with deck-mounted packs.

Reddit Keeps Steering Buyers Toward the Ninebot Instead

Across nearly every thread where the X7 Max comes up as a purchase option, experienced r/ElectricScooters members redirect buyers to the Ninebot Max G30LP or NIU KQi2 Pro. The argument is consistent: similar price, better build, no stem battery compromise — and no tubed tire nightmare.

First-Timers Love It. Veterans Avoid It.

Users with no prior scooter experience frequently report being satisfied with the X7 Max for flat campus commutes. Those upgrading from a tuned Xiaomi or any RWD scooter tend to find it sluggish, speed-limited, and underpowered by comparison — a pattern that shows up repeatedly in Reddit complaint threads.

Tubed tires with solid rims. Pass.

Tubed tyres with no split rim, FWD vs more stable RWD motor, stem mounted battery vs deck mounted for better stability and center of gravity. Other than the removable battery I don't see why you would not go with a Ninebot Max G30LP or a NIU KQi2 Pro instead that sell for a similar price.

I've had the x7 max for a couple of months now with no issues whatsoever. I use it for commuting so reliability is important. I check tire pressure frequently, charge the battery per best practice and squirt the moving parts with dry lube every so often and it stays humming along with no hiccups, generally pegged at 20 mph. No, it doesn't like hills, especially with me on it. I think I would be hard pressed to find any scooter at or under $500 that did. The stem battery can be really convenient.

I got a X7 Max a few days ago and here are my impressions. Seems decent quality for the price. Shipping was very fast, at my door in 3 days. This is upgraded over the pro. I really like the high deck for clearance over curbs, etc. The battery on the bar hasn't presented any center of gravity issues. I dont like how it folds as it just hooks the fender without clipping in, I also dont like the screw-on handlebars, they are pretty short and the design doesnt really allow for changing them.

Same specs as the X7 Pro nothing really changed. The V8 is better with its 15AH battery but at that point something like a Ninebot Max would offer better quality.

It's a 36-volt, 350 watt scooter. It's hard to find scooters with this little power. What were you expecting as far as hill climbing and acceleration? It's also advertised at capping out at 20mph.

I got one of these a month ago as my first ever electric scooter. I use it to get to the bus, and then from where the bus drops me off to work every day. It's great, until I get to a hill. Having said that, I'm 6ft & 240lbs, so I'm definitely towards the limit, but it does the job for me!

Yes, I purchased the X7 Max with pneumatic tires and have been riding it for about three weeks now. So far, everything has been great! I'm aware that they also offer a honeycomb tire model for the X7 MAX, which can help avoid flat tire issues, but it sacrifices some riding comfort compared to the pneumatic model.

If it helps I bought this same scooter, and been riding it about a year. It rides great still. I have the 10Ah battery and get about 30km consistently (riding at the lower speeds you get more range) but I would say a tiny bit of battery deterioration which I think is common.

My main complaint with that kind of scooter is the lack of suspension.

It's the same specs as the x7 pro. Pretty sure this is just marketing. I just wish that the batteries they would use are branded LG, panasonic, or samsung batteries. The chinese batteries that they tend to go out of balance.

They're really just ok, basic scooters. They can't climb hills and the claimed battery range is nowhere close. But I've put mine through a lot (rain, salty ferry rides) and it keeps on going. I've only had to change one innertube for the many hard miles I've put on it.

It's a basic cheap scooter with a marketing gimmick most people won't use (removable battery) that gets sold at prices it doesn't really deserve. It'll work, mind you, but for the same money you can get scooters that work better and don't have several kilograms at the very top of their frame messing up the balance and centre of gravity.

Most people won't use the removable battery? I think it's a very relevant issue with charging the scooter. I live in an apartment and I have very limited choices regarding placing the whole scooter somewhere for charging. In or around my office there is absolutely no possibility either. In such cases a removable battery is a godsend feature.

I've been riding it for just under a week now, every day. I work on a college campus and while classes are out for summer I've been zipping around throughout the day to get around faster. Couldn't be more happy with the experience. This is my first electric scooter and I love it.

These new Turboant are clones. They are not from the same manufacturer. They went to another chinese supplier and had them copy it. Why they are cheaper and works better for their profit margins. To think that they will be good is quite hilarious. I had this same company contact me and the price point per scooter is $200 each. That should tell you everything you need to know. No way that these will last.

All possible reviews had this as the MVP under 500$ so I said why not. I didn't expect my old xiaomi base model to be more fun than this. To be honest if I could remove the limiter it would be nice. Scooter feels like it can handle 30kmh+

I think it would be great for you! I like how they sell all the parts online so you can fix it if it breaks. It's pretty good overall and I'm amazed they actually responded back to my inquiry. Imo it's a good value - you probably won't find one with an easily removable battery within that price range. The X7 Max also has a larger deck so you have more standing room.

Don't buy a turboant x7. I own one and the battery crapped out after 10 charges. Buy a used ninebot g30p.

I'm sorry, but both are terrible options. Get a NIU, Segway, Kaabo, or a Inokim.

No don't get turbo ant. You can find awesome scooters for about $600 or less on Facebook marketplace. I got a Yume X11 pro new for only $900 (regularly $2,399) you can buy from those overstock warehouses.

You'll need to take the tube out of the tire, patch it and reinstall it. Once it's fixed, I recommend adding sealant to prevent the problem appearing again. Solid tires are really not a great idea on a scooter without suspension.

I've owned a scooter like the one you have and it was only barely comfortable enough with pneumatic tires. Put solids on it and you'll be feeling the road surface in your teeth. Scooters aren't the best vehicle to be riding without any cushioning at all.

They are exactly the same (X7 Max and Decent One Max), and they are both pretty bad. The battery is not firmly affixed and likes to shake, the electric contacts between the battery and controller are terrible in the first version (looks like a VGA plug) and less bad but still questionable in the second version. The only way I managed to make mine reliable is to use pieces of bicycle tubing squeezed between the battery and the stem to firmly lock it in place.

I have my Turboant X7 Max for a year. 7 times I've replaced the back tire ($49.95) and 2 times I've replaced the Motor ($97). I've spent about $1000 on repeated materials to keep this up and running. A huge waste of everything.

The Turboants with the battery in the stem aren't actually very good scooters. The battery connector is a known source of problems, and even if you discount that the riding experience isn't all that great or safe, due to wonky weight distribution and pretty bad e-braking.

I think of a removable stem battery as a bad idea. Due to the vibrations a stem encounters and its affect on the electrical connection. I think it could be done right, but on these cheaper scoots they use proprietary batteries with a 'slide in connection' for ease of use. I've owned a Turboant in the past and their build quality is a little sketchy imo.

It was good until very recently, we got an E1 error code and the scooter would die after 1-2 seconds (motor issue). My sister only used it for about a month exclusively on campus -- relatively flat. I contacted them and they're sending over a replacement motor, so hopefully we can get it fixed. At the very least they're more responsive than I expected.

They did end up troubleshooting and sending the motor for free, but a few weeks later it broke again for another reason. I got tired of it all and just bought another scooter. I got the Glion Balto.

If someone told me they bought a Turboant, I'd use this reasoning to explain to them why they bought the wrong scooter. Tubed tires are a non-starter for me.

They're both known lemons. The removable battery of the turboant is a marketing gimmick and an electrically troublesome one at that, to say nothing of the pathetically weak e-brake, and hiboys have structural integrity problems due to being made of the worst chinesium and having solid tires.

HORRIBLE. RUN. BUY ANYTHING ELSE. Unless $600 is an insignificant sum of money to you, don't buy this scooter. It seems really impressive at first but mine abruptly stopped working before I'd even clocked 10 miles on it. Over numerous emails, calls and weeks, I'm still stuck with a piece of heavy garbage the company won't take responsibility for.

A detachable battery is only good for some things like if you can't place your scooter next to a wall outlet and you can just take the battery out, and easily be able to swap out a dead battery and additionally if you buy another battery you could possibly double its range and that's about it.

Few pros, many cons. I've dealt with a few of these stupid things with different names (they're all rebrands of the same generic models coming out of China), because they're often sold with dead electronics where I live, and what I've learned is that I really don't wanna be doing that anymore.

It's a shit brand trying to entice you with a couple extra mph. Go with something that's got a good reputation, like the NIU Kqi2 Pro or Ninebot Max.

Still going strong and loving mine! I did have to replace the throttle because someone got a little overexcited and broke it. But they have a new version that is even better for the replacement part and it was easy.

I ride it only short distances back and forth around where I work but that's several times a day. The battery doesn't last very long but I'm also heavy enough that this thing has to work pretty hard so I'm not surprised that it drains quickly. No errors or other issues. Still happy with my purchase!

I live in an apartment and I undo the bottom lid of my scooter and take the battery out every time I charge. Not out of idiotic regulation but because of safety concerns. Still, takes me maybe half a minute to undo and a minute to bolt back together. The removable stem battery isn't as convenient as it sounds.

These are OEM rebrands where as Xiaomi is an original design. Xiaomi's came with smart controllers you could modify, turboant just uses dummy controllers.
