Summary

The Uberscoot 1600W is a heavily polarizing electric scooter that Reddit consistently describes as antiquated tech kept alive by discount pricing and the used market. It runs on lead-acid batteries and a chain-drive brushed motor — technology that modern scooter makers abandoned years ago for good reasons. Most users who buy it end up doing a lithium battery swap within months just to get usable range. The scooter weighs around 117 lbs and makes significant noise, making it impractical for commuters or anyone who needs to transport it. The main audience that doesn't regret buying it tends to be hobbyists or tinkerers who got one cheap or free and enjoy modding it.

Pros

  • Solid and durable frame — multiple users confirmed the chassis holds up well even after years of use, making it a viable base for upgrades
  • After a lithium battery swap (48v–60v), real-world users report top speeds of 34–40+ mph and ranges up to 20 miles on flat terrain
  • Parts are widely available and inexpensive — controllers, batteries, and other components can be sourced from Amazon, AliExpress, or eBay at low cost
  • Strong appeal as a DIY/mod platform — users have converted it to dual hub motors, higher voltage setups, and significantly improved performance over stock
  • Occasional deals on the used market bring prices down to $300–$400, making it a cheap entry point if you're willing to put in the work

Cons

  • Lead-acid batteries degrade within a year under typical use, and the stock SLA pack cuts real range to half or less of what's advertised
  • At 117 lbs, it's impractical for commuters — too heavy to carry onto trains, buses, or most car trunks with ease
  • Chain-drive brushed motor is loud — users compare the sound to a mini dirt bike, making it unsuitable for quiet neighborhoods or stealth commuting
  • For the $700 new price, better alternatives exist: a Ninebot Max, Xiaomi M365, or Turbowheel Swift offer hub motors, lithium batteries, and lighter builds for similar or lower cost
  • The lithium battery upgrade alone costs $200–$350, meaning total investment often exceeds what a modern scooter would cost from the start
  • Stock seat is poorly built and unstable, especially for heavier riders — a known issue with no easy drop-in replacement

Reddit's Verdict: Buy It Only If You Plan to Mod It

The Uberscoot 1600W gets a pass from Reddit almost exclusively among hobbyists and tinkerers. Stock, it's widely panned. But with a lithium swap and a controller upgrade, users report turning it into a legitimate performer — one even hit 40+ mph on a 60v setup.

117 Pounds of Nostalgia at a Modern Price

The Uberscoot is priced like a modern scooter but built like something from a decade ago. Reddit users repeatedly point out that for $700 new, you could buy a hub-motor, lithium-powered scooter that weighs a third as much and needs zero upgrades out of the box.

Surprisingly Popular Among the 'Got It Free' Crowd

A surprising number of Uberscoot threads start with 'I got this for free' or 'found it at a scrap pile.' That crowd is generally positive — they're not out any money and have fun modding it. The people who paid full price rarely feel the same way.

Honestly it's not worth buying new replacement components for a lead acid battery chain driven scooter.

I completely disagree with everybody saying it's not worth doing anything to and throw it away. If you really have to, you could get a lithium battery and replace the controller and it'd be better than ever before. All for maybe like 3 or 4 hundred bucks. And it'd have really good range, it'd be like a sleeper scooter.

Why do you want to go to that scooter? That's an old type of scooter, that uses old batteries. New scooters all use lithium battery cells.

Not worth it they don't last very long simply because they have lead acid batteries that tend to go bad within a year and for $400 you can probably get yourself something like a used xiaomi m365, a bird scooter or a segway scooter. Over all they are cheap junk.

Its pretty hefty at about 117lb and its pretty loud motor. Better off buying a cheap electric scooter if you are just starting out as its lighter, much more silent and portable.

These are ancient tech - usually lead-acid batteries and brushed motors. They will indeed put out 1600W, but only briefly, as those batteries will not take that sort of strain for long without sagging and getting power back down into three digits. Additionally, 1600W through a brushed motor and a chain drive aren't the same as 1600W through a rather more efficient brushless hub motor.

For the price, a great durable, fast scooter, but very heavy. If you're looking for off road use, speed and durability this is a good pick. I commute on a train, so the 120 pounds was too heavy to lug on and off and put in the back of the car. However it did fold and fit in the trunk of my Camry, but just too heavy. Also since it's chain driven it's very noisy. Almost like a mini dirt bike you can stand on without the gas motor. I would recommend this scooter for weekend use and off road use.

Don't do it. It's extremely heavy, have a SLA battery and it's chain driven. Any hub motor design with Li-ion batteries is much better. For about 800$ you could get a turbowheel swift.

I wouldn't recommend a seat on a scooter regardless. I couldn't imagine a seat on any 2-wheeled scooter that feels safe and stable. Strongly consider standing, please!

If that scooter is lead acid 48v then 4 of these in series would go to 48v if 36v then 3 of them. But it might be better to put that money to a lithium battery as they last longer and provide more consistent power.

It's a 1600w scooter for 400$ — that's an instant red flag that he probably stole it.

I would do a lot of research into the real world results for range. The Segway scooters get like half the advertised range.

Modern, quality brand Li-ion batteries are completely safe, as long as you don't leave them on the charger for like two days or dip them in water. The safety concern about lead acid vs lithium is basically a non-issue with reputable brands.

Put this in the dumpster and buy a new one — should fix the issue.

I would ask for proof of purchase at least. Don't just give up on the deal — maybe he's just a rich dude and wants the scooter gone. Maybe it's someone trying to get rid of their ex's scooter and just needs quick cash. It's not always stolen.

I have 1600 & love it, switched SLA batteries for 48v 20ah lithium. Top speed I've gotten is 34.4 mph & still felt totally stable. Top range 20 mi on flat, hills. Fire roads. Snag it if you have the dough for new lithium otherwise your range will be half or less.

I have a uberscoot 1600w, all you need to do is get a new controller off of Amazon or eBay. I would definitely recommend getting a lithium battery, lowers the weight and adds speed and distance. I have a 60v 30 Amp battery upgrade on my scooter. I first went with 52v but it didn't get me above 40 mph. The 60v does...

If you can save up a bit more I would either recommend the Ninebot Max or a Vesett 8. That Uber scooter just doesn't make sense and will be disappointing in build quality.

SLA batteries suck... Don't really see the point of buying a used scooter just to spend hundreds of dollars to replace the battery.

I got mine from a scrap metal pile been piecing it together finally rideable. I love it. I need to put a bigger controller but it still does 23 mph with me on it. I have an old 1000 watt, looks like the newer ones have a little more go juice. I'm running lithium, a lot better.

Great scooter, make sure you go with 1600 or higher. Definitely upgrade to lithium or better — the lead acid battery it comes with just doesn't do it justice. My wife and I have had ours for 2 years now, ride them here in Vegas, little to no problems — just the battery and the headlamp so far. Make sure you get a good lock and have fun.

That is an Uber Scoot. Don't buy a 48v battery — 52v 20ah will slide in without changing the controller and you will thank me later. It does not cost much more, but you will have more torque and a faster top speed. 52v will work with anything made for 48v.

I bought a 1600w brushless for 100$ and threw in a recycled lithium pack I built. 60v now and it works really good for my kid and does 30+ if I pull the limiter.

The frame is a solid frame. I just converted mine to a dual hub motor scooter. I could change the tires so I bought hub motors instead.

Make sure you swap batteries. Don't buy new — ask around your neighborhood. In mine there are people that sell batteries cheap. One thing about used is the money you save, you can build it how you want it: no limits on speed, better suspension and tires, or what not.

From some quick research, the UberScoot 1000w is like $600 new. I'm assuming that you're saving $100 by buying it used, but you have no idea how many problems it might have such as battery or wiring issues. I'd shell out the extra $100 and just get a new one with warranty.

These ancient scooters aren't worth doing any work on unless you're doing it for sentimental reasons. By the time you've paid for the battery and brushless conversion, you'll have probably spent more money than a modern hub-drive scooter would cost you — and this without considering the time and effort to install all that stuff.

Battery is the most expensive part. Everything else is surprisingly inexpensive. You could run these full suspension or no suspension scooters with whatever parts you want, but it's really up to you to figure out if the parts you're running will be safe on your scooter.

Would recommend Amazon since everything is already in the US warehouses. AliExpress might take over a month for battery delivery.

I knew lead acid was an old tech, but isn't it less volatile? So I don't have to be so cautious with charging and discharging?

I ended up going with the Nanrobot D4+ 2.0 and I love it. But I haven't ridden it since 2021 unfortunately — life happens. I was surprised when I saw the Uberscoot on Craigslist for $800 back in 2020.

Having a browse on AliExpress and I'm having a hard time finding anything in my price range in terms of batteries and motors. The lower priced motors I'm not sure would fit this thing.

Post was too short — got my 48v 20a lithium battery on eBay for $300ish. Makes a massive difference in range and performance over the stock lead acid pack.

Got this scooter from my brother — he said it needs a new battery and lost the keys. Want to upgrade the battery and restore or upgrade this scooter rather than toss it.
