Summary

The UScooters Booster V (also sold as the E-TWOW Booster V) is a niche ultraportable electric scooter that earns loyal fans among urban commuters who need to carry their ride onto trains, into lockers, or through restaurant doors. At 25 lbs with foldable handlebars and a slim profile, it's genuinely one of the lightest sub-$1100 scooters that can still hit 25 mph. That said, Reddit sentiment is decidedly mixed: owners rave about portability and reliability, but the braking system — regen-only with no mechanical drum brake — is a recurring flashpoint, and a handful of users have reported serious falls linked to front wheel lockup. It's a scooter that rewards careful, predictable riding in smooth urban environments and punishes anything resembling a panic stop.

Pros

  • Exceptional power-to-weight ratio for its price class — 25 lbs with a 25 mph top speed makes it one of the lightest fast ultraportables available under $1100
  • Compact folded dimensions fit under train seats, in gym lockers, and inside shopping carts — multiple owners confirmed this firsthand across NYC, LA, and San Francisco
  • Solid tire + dual suspension combo handles train tracks and moderate bumps better than expected, with one NYC commuter noting he can speed over Jersey train tracks that stopped him cold on a pneumatic-tire scooter
  • Highly reliable long-term — multiple owners report 500–800+ miles with zero mechanical issues, and E-TWOW's in-house manufacturing of most parts including the motor is credited for durability
  • Slim frame makes one-handed control and navigating tight spaces easy, and the scooter's narrow profile is a genuine advantage in crowded urban environments

Cons

  • No mechanical drum brake — the Booster V relies entirely on regen braking and a foot fender brake, which multiple users call a dealbreaker; stopping distances at 20+ mph are significantly longer than on brake-equipped models
  • Regen braking effectiveness drops sharply above 15 mph, meaning high-speed emergency stops are genuinely dangerous — at least two Reddit users reported going over the handlebars, one requiring ER and stitches
  • A reported front wheel lockup bug (front wheel freezes when braking while accelerating) has been documented by multiple owners and appears to be a hardware/firmware design flaw
  • Throttle response is jerky and inconsistent below 10 mph, making slow-speed maneuvering uncomfortable for riders who need precise low-speed control
  • The GT Sport (approx. 5 lbs heavier) adds a drum brake and more power — many Reddit users explicitly recommend skipping the Booster V in favor of the GT Sport unless extreme portability is the top priority
  • Solid 8-inch tires make ride quality 'adequate at best' on rough roads — small vibrations are not dampened, and wet or potholed surfaces amplify both comfort and braking issues

The Brake Debate That Won't Die

Across dozens of threads, the Booster V's regen-only braking system is the single most debated feature. Some long-term owners have logged 2,500 miles on it without incident; others ended up in the ER. The foot fender brake helps, but the consensus from safety-focused riders is clear: if you need a panic stop at 20 mph, you're not stopping in time.

The Best Scooter That Fits in a Gym Locker

For a very specific use case — multimodal urban commuting where portability beats everything — the Booster V has almost no competition at its price. Owners in NYC, LA, and San Francisco routinely bring it into cafes, fold it under train seats, and stash it behind gym reception desks. The GT Sport is better in almost every other way, but it won't fit where the Booster V does.

Experienced Scooter Riders Like It More Than Beginners

Multiple Redditors with 4,000+ miles on other scooters describe the Booster V as a capable second scooter for short hops — not a beginner's first ride. The combination of high speed, minimal braking, small wheels, and a narrow stance demands rider experience. Those who treat it like a relaxed commuter tool and stay under 20 mph report mostly positive experiences; those who push its limits do not.

So far I've only gotten to go out a few times to explore and grab some groceries. I'm blown away by how much smaller and more accessible the city (Charlotte NC) feels now. Portability is the main selling point on this scooter, and it lives up to its name. I was easily able to fold up the scooter and carry it with me into a restaurant and a grocery store.

Having a mechanical brake is an absolute necessity. I can't believe they actually build those things without real brakes. Regen braking is great but it can't be your only means of stopping a scooter in an emergency.

I push my scooter in stores all the time here in Los Angeles. Never had a problem with that. Also outdoor dining areas at restaurants.

I love my Uscooters :) They're amazing, get me around town, my wife uses the Booster V and I'm on the GT SE. So much fun and you're right the distances are so small :)

Absolutely essential, to the point it blows my mind that so many scooters are sold without a mechanical brake. Unfortunately you only get to troll physics if you're a cat; us humans don't get to win arguments against the laws of the cosmos, and if you don't have a decent braking system and you get into a panic-stop situation you're in serious trouble.

I've used mine for over a year, as long as you're keeping enough of a distance between cars, the regen braking is enough. It's pretty strong too. There's also the foot brake if needed but I've only used it once or twice when brake checked by other cars. I plan on getting another and removing the rear drum brake on it just because I prioritize portability and weight instead.

I have gt sport. The regen brake when going over 14mph is horrible. Once it reaches 14-15mph it seems to kick in and actually starts to stop the scooter. When speed is above that it feels like a slight slowdown. You need a very long distance for the regen brake to do anything at high speeds. The drum brake will lock the rear wheel instantly but the issue there is then you slide quite easily.

There is a foot brake which is absolutely plentiful and together with the e-brake seems to provide all the braking one can expect from a scooter of this type.

Since the wheels are solid and <9 inches, I feel 25 mph is way too fast - thus I cap mine at 20mph. Due to the solid tires and the dual suspension, the comfort of the ride is only adequate. Tho I guess it really depends on the roads. But all things being equal, I prefer two air tubless tires.

Solid tyres suck, but are rideable on smooth surfaces at low speeds. The lack of brake however I find that mind boggling. If you're riding along the road and some kid runs out in front of you you have no chance at stopping in time and could very well cause some injuries. I'm shocked that a manufacturer would even consider e-brakes and a foot brake on an electric scooter.

The fender brake in conjunction with the electric brake is pretty effective and I've practiced that combo. It's pretty much essential when you're cruising at 20+ as the electric brake is less effective there, but you have to have your rear foot ready to go. At lower speeds that I do about 80% of the time (15mph or so) the electric brake seems responsive enough.

if you hate the beeping horn as much as I do, unscrew the top off and disconnect it from the circuit board.

I've used mine for 2500 miles with the e brake only and it's awesome. Zero need for the drum brake.

I have a GT sport. The braking sucks. Regen + disc. So I'd be loathe to have a scooter from the same company with just regen. I love the Gt sport. I think it's small and light enough for my needs.

It's a good scooter. Definitely one of the best power to weigh ratio on the market right now. I love taking my GT everywhere. It's dead reliable and I never worry about getting flats. It's just too damn convenient commuting with this thing.

I just bought my Etwow GT SE a few weeks ago. There is definitely a learning curve to this scooter which is the trade off for its low maintenance. The handlebars do jiggle a little but it doesnt bother me since I know it's well seated into the stem.

It seems like the e-brake issue has been resolved. I went ahead and ordered the Booster V. I'll make sure I practice a lot with it before using it.

Booster V is too fast for its own good. The built and frame of the scooter is flimsy and something always breaks. My Booster V's motor broke in the middle of Williamsburg bridge and the motor got stuck and jittery. Had to walk the whole bridge down and I couldn't even push kick the thing because the front wheel got tightened up all of a sudden.

I bought a GT Sport 2022 model over Thanksgiving. I am 6'2 and weigh 200 lbs. I considered the Booster V as well. I find the ride over normal paved roads and sidewalks perfectly fine. I am an experienced commuter cyclist, and so I am accustomed to avoiding potholes. I wouldn't call it a 'plush' ride but I have never found it uncomfortable.

E-TWOWs have really good suspension, but tires are really rock hard. So ride is 7/10, as small vibrations aren't dampened, but big bumps - yes.

E-Twow scooters (even the GT) are hella reliable. I bought my first E-Twow back around 2017 and it never caused any issues over about 500 miles. E-Twow is different from most other manufacturers in the sense that E-Twow actually manufactures most of its own parts, including the motor. They have a lot more control over quality since they're actually manufacturing not just the scooter, but most of the parts that go into it.

It seems like the e-brake issue has been resolved. I ordered mine about a week ago, and Scott contacted me almost immediately to see if I was aware of the issue and if I wanted to wait a few days for the new control units that he was expecting. The e-brake on mine now works great at any speed. It's actually a bit touchy but just takes some getting used to.

Same thing happened to me five days ago, I believe. I somehow went over the handle bar on a clear bike path. Woke up on the street and spent the day in ER. Without a helmet god knows what would have happened. After reading your post I tried using full throttle and slightly breaking - the front wheel immediately locks. This looks like a clear design flaw to me.

There is no comparison between solid vs pneumatic tires. For comparison my Boosted Rev with pneumatic tires has a far superior ride than the GT sport which has solid tires and a suspension. That being said for short commutes where you need something that you can carry up stairs or for short distances, I haven't seen anything better than the GT sport. However unless you need portability then I would not recommend such a light scooter.

If you're going to get one of the e-twow scooters I would not recommend the Booster V. It lacks a mechanical brake so it has a very long stopping distance. The GT Sport is the best option followed by the GT SE.

I'd skip the Booster V, go for their GT Sport instead. If budget is a concern, get the Fluid Mosquito, it's almost the same, but with less range.

You probably won't need to, but may want to consider protecting from water intrusion. Two hidden bolts are located at the front of the scooter where the battery compartment door is. UScooters seals all around the battery compartment door with clear caulk, so just be aware in case you ever open it.

Running it, if I depress the brake as the scooter accelerates, then it slows the front wheel down and stops it in a controlled way. When it's running full speed (L4, 25 mph free wheel), then the front wheel locks up, even when the brake is slightly depressed. I can't ride a scooter that will throw me off if I touch the brake while accelerating.

I've never experienced a wheel lock up. I think the UScooter/E-TWOW scooters offer amazing performance given how light weight they are. I do wonder if it's a good idea to be going 20+ mph on a 25 pound scooter with 8 inch wheels though.

I have Gt sport and Kaabo mantis v2. I use my sport for a short commute. Bumpy roads here are less comfortable but not an issue for short distances. I would not pick the lighter booster if just a set of stairs here and there. Speed and acceleration on the sport trump the lighter weight in my opinion.
