Summary

The Zero 10X Limited is a high-powered dual-motor electric scooter aimed at experienced riders who want serious performance without paying Dualtron prices. Community sentiment is genuinely mixed — owners are impressed by the raw power and range figures, but frustrated by build quality issues that feel unacceptable at the $2,000 price point. The Limited variant introduced a modular battery system housed in the stem rather than the deck, which divided opinion on weight distribution and upgrade potential. Most threads focus heavily on speed limiter removal, suggesting buyers expect the full unlocked experience and are disappointed to deal with restrictions out of the box.

Pros

  • Top speed of up to 65 km/h after derestricting, with dual motors delivering strong acceleration across all terrain types
  • Modular battery design on the Limited version allows compatibility with Zero 11X 72V battery for an easy power upgrade path
  • Suspension absorbs rough roads and curbs well, described by multiple owners as 'trampoline-like' for off-road or urban bump absorption
  • Range of up to 85 km per charge makes it viable for longer commutes without range anxiety
  • Active community with well-documented derestriction methods (grey wire, white wire cuts, P-menu settings) making unlocking straightforward once you know how
  • Eco/turbo and single/dual motor modes give flexible riding configurations for different conditions

Cons

  • Build quality consistently criticized for a $2,000 scooter — cheap plastics, creaky stem, brake adjustments needed every 100 km, and loose screws reported across multiple units
  • Severe speed wobble at higher speeds due to poor trail geometry; a $150–200 aftermarket steering damper is practically mandatory for safe high-speed riding
  • Battery placed in the stem on the Limited version rather than the deck, raising center-of-gravity concerns at speeds above 50 km/h
  • Speed limiter requires physical wire cutting or controller modification to remove — not a simple software toggle, and methods vary by regional variant
  • Competitors like the Dualtron 2 Limited or Kaabo Mantis Pro offer comparable or better performance with fewer reported quality issues at similar price points
  • Controllers housed in an unventilated deck space raise heat dissipation concerns during sustained high-speed riding in warm conditions

The Steering Wobble Problem Nobody Warns You About

Reddit owners consistently flag dangerous handlebar instability at speed, rooted in the scooter's trail geometry. Many consider a $150–200 steering damper a non-optional purchase before riding above 40 km/h.

Is the Limited's Stem Battery a Feature or a Flaw?

The modular battery relocated to the stem opens an easy 72V upgrade path, but riders debate whether the compromised weight distribution is worth it — especially at high speeds where the extra stem mass becomes noticeable.

Two Thousand Dollars and You're Still Cutting Wires

The derestriction process — involving grey wires, white wire cuts, or P-menu digging depending on your regional variant — has become a rite of passage for Zero 10X owners, and not in a fun way.

Looks like an honest review to me and I give you credit for sticking with the unit. For the same amount of money or less considering your add-ons you could get a Dualtron 2 limited which will absolutely put this zero 10 X to shame.

Iam writing this review to help you decide if its really worth spending 2000 usd on this scooter. Right out of the box the scooter is really a smooth ride with plenty of power to overcome the most of terrain, feels very stable at 30 km/h and less stable at higher speed.

The Zero 10x has bad (verging on death trap) levels of trail. Scooter riders seem oblivious to this but its an understood issue in MTB and Motorcycles. The amount of trail determines front wheel stability.

Awesome review! With your upgrade to Zero 10X please wear motorcycle helmet and lots of protective gear because if you fall from high speeds, you will be seriously injured!

Using heavy regenerative braking still puts wear on something, but it's the motor ESC instead. ESCs can be built to handle this load for far longer than brakes are designed to last though.

Unplug the Grey cable from controller, it is the limiter cable.

These laws are ridiculous. Cars that can travel much faster than the speed limit are driven and the onus is on the driver not to speed. This should be the same for all vehicles including electric ones.

The limited edition had to fit the battery in the stem because dimensions for the new battery was bigger. The deck only has the controllers. Also the limited version is a modular battery system, which means you can just plug in a Zero 11X 72v battery and it'll have the 11x speed.

Are you sure that dual motor is turned on, and turbo is on as well? The buttons should be switched around — the eco/turbo button should be up, while the single/dual should be down.

The P-Menu is what unlocked it for me. Hold Mode and Power button down at the same time. P8 setting is the one you want. Set the value to 100. It should now perform at Max.

The motor controller might have a speed limiting wire, connecting them together limits it to 25km/h. Often that is already wired to a ECO button on the handlebars. You can also ride using mode 1, or reduce the P08 setting to reduce the maximum speed.

There are two enemies of electric devices: excessive heat and water. Waterproofing is straight forward. It seems to me that heat dissipation is a real problem especially when putting 2 controllers in an unventilated tight space. Running the scooter at top speed in the hot summer months seems to be a recipe for premature controller death.

Thank you for writing this! I've been riding Xiaomi M365 Pro for a couple of months now and been constantly thinking about switching to Zero 9 or 10X. Reading this has calmed me down and gives me confidence to continue using M365 for another year while waiting for the industry to evolve.

Another quality brand to look for is Inokim. I have an Inokim light and very happy — there is also the OX and OXO to check out. You may want to upgrade stuff still but I doubt you will find cheap screws and the like.

Appreciate the honest review. This has also been my experience with all my scooters, but especially my Zero 8 — there was always something else to fix. Honestly, anyone spending over 1000-1200 should just go for it and get a Dualtron.

I almost feel they should have tried to fit the battery on the deck and put the controllers in the pouch or make a custom box to fit it. The heavier battery would be better inside the deck.

The scooter is able to hit a top speed of up to 65 km/h and has a range of 85 km in a single charge. It does have a USB port too.

Opening the box, I just thought what the hell have I done. Then assembled it and thought the same again, but with a smile on my face. I also had the issue of flats on the 365, always the rear. This isn't discrete, this is a work horse.

My brakes can fully stop the tires going at 50km/h and I have only replaced the pads once during 1600km. My wobble is not bad, like at all. Which is why I don't get the dampeners.

I have about 400 miles on my Lightning+ and I agree with your review. When I first got the scooter I almost bought the steering dampener because the wobble was so bad. Overtime I gained more experience which really helped.

There is a scooter named Speed Trott RX2000 on the market, also known as Blade 10 pro. It is built on the Zero 10x platform, but includes almost every upgrade you mentioned: hydraulic brakes, dampener, folding handles, foot rest, etc.

Everyone carries on about how the m365 is unreliable and needs custom parts but I never had an issue with mine. You've basically bought a 2nd scooter with your mods and fixes!

Here in NZ the 10X with the same 18ah battery is a little cheaper than a Dualtron 2. It does have some features mine doesn't like a key ignition and turning blinkers, but the blinkers aren't bright enough to be useful and there are a bunch of other quality issues.

I'm going to keep a look out for some of this on my Kaabo Mantis. I'm not game to take my hand off while moving at all yet. Brakes seem different and better than what you've described too, and I don't need to fold mine down regularly, so I'm hoping that mechanism stays solid.

I have a Mantis Pro which is a similar design to the 10x and I have no speed wobble at all. It is very stable and with a smooth road I can easily drive with one hand up to 30-40 km/h.

Then none of the Zero's or Titan family will do this. It's all pre-programmed in the controller. No aftermarket exists. A Zero10X at 12MPH is pointless.

Full battery is 58.8V (14 cells * 4.2). That's ~52 volts nominal setting. Also, ECO button out, Gear 3, Dual motor button in — that's the correct setup for max performance.

I'd recommend using dual mode and change the power and speed in settings. Dual mode puts less pressure on motors and increases their lifespan.

I am at almost 1600km and i have no issue riding one handed and i don't feel like it is unstable until i am at 60km/h at which it is not a problem to me if i simply stand correctly and hold on. My cruising speed is 45-50km/h.

It has an eco/turbo switch — if in eco it only goes 25km/h — and also in the P-settings you have the power-limit setting that is set to 100%. If you set that lower, your top speed goes down, so there should be a point where it only goes 20km/h if that setting is low enough.

It is such a nonsense, 20 km/h does not even make sense — there is almost no point or appeal of having a scooter if you can go only 20 km/h for a daily commuter. For reference, I hit over 30 km/h while pedaling a sports bicycle.

Great write-up and review. It's definitely a beast of a scooter and I share your concerns with some of the component quality. I personally loved jumping curbs on the 10X since the trampoline-like suspension soaked up the shock.

I own this beast as well, 400km on the clock. Low quality plastics, although still intact. Brakes are working but are low quality, need adjustment every 100 km and the front one squeaks. Lithium grease for squeaky stem every 100 km.

It's kind of weird but despite the huge hype around the scooter, when you start reading real user reviews in forums like here, there is almost every time disappointment. Watching YouTube reviews on several channels might not be the best idea because these can always be paid.

I had the luck to exchange my Zero10x for Wolf Warrior 11+ at the shop I bought it. Before 10x, I had Xiaomi M365. I could drive it with no hands for 2km straight. After 2600km on M365, I got the 10x. It was fast, but felt unstable.

You don't have to upgrade every single component at all. I've done 1500km on mine and it's as good as the day I brought it. People on here just seem to whinge for the hell of it or can't ride the thing and end up breaking stuff.

Damn it required this much aftermarket care? Zero taking an L for this especially considering how gassed up it is on review websites.

I personally believe that bigger wider wheels and a steering damper in combination will make this scooter a lot more stable.

Take off the left head light and you will find a bundle of wires with a zip tie. Snip the zip tie, pull apart the wires and look for a connector that connects a signal wire together, and disconnect. All it did for me was take the speed limit off the gears — top speed did not change.

This post gave me some perspective on my current situation. These scooters suffer from some similar issues, namely the brakes, the lights, and most principally, the folding stem mechanism.

I would recommend getting a Kaabo Mantis instead. 60v means better acceleration, higher top speed and more range. I can also tell you that after putting a thousand miles on mine it was a very reliable scooter.
