Summary

Kingdom Come: Deliverance II's Legacy of the Forge DLC lets Henry take over his father Martin's blacksmith shop in Kuttenberg, rebuild it from scratch, and run it as a functioning forge. Reddit sentiment is genuinely split: fans of cozy management loops and player housing love it, while players expecting an expanded blacksmithing system or story-driven content find it thin. The DLC works best when played mid-game in Kuttenberg, woven into the city's daily rhythm rather than tackled post-completion when money and progression feel meaningless. Several bugs — most notably the dice game with Master Boris being completely broken — have blocked portions of the questline for a significant number of players, dragging down the experience.

Pros

  • The forge rebuild system offers more granularity and creative freedom than From the Ashes in KCD1, letting players customize their space functionally and aesthetically without the urgency of consequences
  • Repeatable guild quests (blacksmithing orders, archery contests, investigation missions, thievery) give the game an endless daily loop even after completing the main story
  • Having an all-in-one home base with a bed, alchemy bench, drying rack, storage chest, and on-site vendors eliminates the constant city-hopping that annoyed players in the base game
  • Story threads hidden inside the radiant quest loop — including Martin's backstory and the Ragman quest chain — reward players who stick with the grind and keep the content from feeling entirely hollow
  • New unique weapons like the Basilisk warhammer and Lion's Roar Kilij are genuinely competitive additions to the late-game arsenal
  • The DLC generates reliable income through smithing commissions and guild activities, making it a natural money sink and source simultaneously for mid-playthrough characters

Cons

  • The blacksmithing system itself was not expanded at all — same minigame, same animations, no new weapon types like maces or polearms, no armor forging despite being the central premise of the DLC
  • Multiple progression-blocking bugs reported at launch, most notably the Boris dice game not triggering dialogue options, leaving players stuck at Prestige 6 with no workaround
  • New armor sketches are distributed through pure RNG chest drops, with no guaranteed acquisition path — players report hitting Prestige 30 and completing all quests while still missing pieces, including getting duplicate sketches repeatedly
  • The DLC lacks integration with the main cast: Hans, Katherine, Godwin, and other key characters have zero dialogue about Henry's forge, making it feel narratively isolated from the rest of KCD2
  • Post-completion play feels hollow — by the time most players finish the main game they are flush with money, removing the financial stakes that make building up the forge satisfying
  • No actual storefront mechanic; the sales chest sells items slowly at reduced prices, and the two hired journeymen only hold 150 Groschen each, making them nearly useless as buyers

The Boris Bug Is Ruining It for a Lot of People

A broken dice game NPC has blocked progression at Prestige 6 for a noticeable chunk of players since launch, with no official fix and no reliable workaround. For those affected, the DLC effectively stops working mid-quest.

It's a Player Home DLC Wearing a Blacksmithing Costume

The forge is the backdrop, but the real draw is having a permanent base in Kuttenberg with all crafting stations, a bed, vendors, and a place to dump loot. Players who wanted deeper smithing mechanics — new weapon types, casting, armor forging — left disappointed.

Mid-Game Is the Sweet Spot Nobody Warned You About

Players who started the DLC the moment they arrived in Kuttenberg consistently reported a better experience than those who saved it for post-game. When you're broke and still building your reputation, the forge loop has actual stakes.

I like it overall, especially that even though it is similar to from the ashes from the previous game, in the rebuilding of something aspect, you don't have the urgency of needing to do everything immediately, or else suffer consequences. Do everything at your own time, as you like.

I like it but there are several flaws. Customers with special orders should be able to pick up the thing they need from the sales box by your workers if it exists there rather than speak only to you and demand it made right now. There should be chests both at the forge and at the apothecary bench which let you use the materials put in them. The update introduced a bug where the screen is full of green artifacts when you're in a dark place. There should've been an actual store-front.

It's OK. I was really enjoying it but it is getting repetitive. I am playing it after finishing the game. It might be more fun if you're mid game so you can mix it with other non DLC quests for variety, and so it might feel more of an accomplishment to upgrade the forge (I am loaded in money. It's a bit satisfying I can do something with all the money I earned in my playthrough but there's no challenge in having to save up for something).

Parents aren't disappointed, gave up adventure and the sword, wanted to start a business in Kuttenberg and marry Katherine. Perfect DLC for me.

More like Legacy of the missed potential. TL;DR. Overall, it's meh at best. It's just a player house dlc. There is no depth to it. I thought the point of the dlc was running a forge but it is just so half-assed. You hire 2 journeymen but they aren't your workers, all you get are 2 npc shops but far worse versions. They only get 150g in their inventory so you can't even sell things to them.

I really like that you kind of make money to pay for the upgrades and stuff. If you have some materials stashed, it's even better income. In From the Ashes in KCD1, you just had to make money somehow or wait for your chest to fill out — which was slow due to low income early on.

I loved finding out about Martin's past, the daily activities are fun, it was amazing to see how much detail, new unique activities and dialogue they introduced. For example, I went for the archery contest a couple of times and thought it would always be the same but no, the last time something had happened and Henry needed to chase some people instead. Nice twist. The bad: It doesn't fit in the overall plot.

Drives me crazy that if you mastercraft the item you get paid less than what it's worth on special orders.

My problem with the dlc is that you can't interact with other characters like Hans and Katherine and let them know about your forge, also I had expected more customization options when making weapons.

They need to fix this and just give the sketches based on prestige level. I literally have gotten zero sketches as rewards and am max prestige. I've only found a few in chests.

I think it's definitely middle game content. Being involved with the forge and home renovations is quite seamless if you're already in the city doing other quests, which also prevents it from being repetitive. I'm not rushing the DLC at all, I'm only level 11 prestige still but I'm not ignoring the content either. It's just additional gameplay that you can get to any time you want.

It's exactly as advertised. You get a forge, a home, repeatable sidequests to earn money, the forge upgrades are a good money sink, you fulfill your father's legacy. The repeatable sidequests range from archery, thieving, killing bandits, dice game and blacksmithing orders. It is miles ahead of the From the Ashes dlc of Pribyslavitz.

Yes imo because you can use a lot of the new stuff for the main story and side quests. If you wait till you've completed everything all the new stuff is kinda useless. That being said it does make sense story wise for Henry to sort of 'settle down' if you wait till the main one is completed.

I think it's exactly what should have been expected from the DLC title, but I think the disappointment comes from there being a lot of demand for a large story expansion, and people were tentatively hoping this one was it. It will be a fantastic dlc for many people, especially those who are wanting their 3rd or 4th playthrough.

I enjoyed doing something new and I love upgrading the forge. That said everything else is honestly a bit of a disappointment. Most of the missions that come with it were already in the game really, I could already go and do archery contests, sword fights, Farkle and smithing. My biggest issue is the lack of new cosmetics and weapons, I was really hoping for new styles of clothing, armour and weapons to freshen up the fashion aspect.

Do it. I think it was 100% designed to be played while you do your stuff in the Kuttenberg region not to be played in the end when you're done with everything.

It's a pain to get the armor. I've been playing for 50 hours since the DLC dropped and still haven't found all the sketches. Keeps giving me repeats of the ones I found. How they fix this in the future.

Unpopular opinion, perhaps, but so far I do not feel either DLC has earned their share of the season pass' cost. At half the price of the full product, I expected them to at least scratch the surface of what made the base game so unforgettable. But that's far from the case.

I like it. It's best to play it along with the other Kuttenberg area content, although it keeps you from spending much time outside the city if you want to grind the daily quests. I like the unique weapons and items. The building system is stellar, there's more granularity and freedom of choice than in Pribyslavitz.

Personally I think it's trash, I think the whole damn forge is useless since you have to run around for everything and the old lady doesn't even sell anything. The forge designer is bugged for me and I can't unequip decorations so everything is just stacked on each other. I do like the daily task but I honestly stopped playing and regret buying it.

I can't get Boris to play Dice with me, so I'm stuck at Prestige level 6 with no way to advance the questline. I've stopped playing it. That's my thoughts on it.

I highly recommend waiting until finishing the main story. Narratively it doesn't make sense to go about trying to rebuild a forge while Hans is captive. After the main quest many players feel like the game is empty, and the forge dlc is a wonderful fit to fill this space. It adds some basic radiant quests, and coupled with whatever side quests you have left has a good chunk of story.

I'm disappointed. I was expecting a more story focused dlc, not fetch quest party/activities. I'm happy for the people enjoying it though, I guess there are still a lot of players who like doing this kind of stuff. Personally I will avoid the content from this dlc, it's not for me.

I like it, but honestly, smithing is not the most ironed out part of the game. I was hoping for improvements there, but they just left it as it was.

My only gripe is that there is no connection to the main story. And I think they pretty easily could have made one. Just have Zizka task Henry with establishing himself in the city somehow. Spy on the blacksmiths guild to see what they are providing for Sigismund and potentially sabotage it. Maybe even provide weapons for your own cause.

I was really hoping for a new game mechanic added to blacksmithing as well. The same old blacksmithing minigame made me really sad, the trailer made it seem like you would be able to pour molten metal or something.

I have basically finished it, playing for a week on and off, and really enjoyed it. Found a few bugs, nothing game-breaking, so I was able to complete all the quests I was given. Loved meeting the characters that knew Frisky, and learning more about the history of Martin. The forge is really cool, and the upgrades are awesome. I give it a 100%. Well done Warhorse.

I personally really like it. It gave me the same feeling I got when you could build a house in Skyrim. Like starting from nothing and each upgrade makes it look better. I really liked that. I wish there was a bit more about Martin and his lore. It's really nice to get the specific buffs and pocket merchants.

I really don't understand why some people are expecting Blood and Wine or Phantom Liberty level DLCs, not only is Legacy of the Forge cheaper than both, less than half the price in Phantom Liberty's case, but Warhorse is like a third of the size of CDPR with a lot less money behind them. KCD2 is already a 100+ hour game.

It's good, but I think it would have been way better if I hadn't already completed the game. It's quite a bit of busy work. I basically wake up, spam requests, then skip time and/or sleep. If I had it going into the second map it would've felt much nicer—taking a break from the MSQ, side quests, or tasks to do some busybody work and grow my forge over time.

It is a very nice addition. But as I have said elsewhere, it seems a bit rushed and lacks the polish of the rest of the game. This is most evident in the smithy upgrade menu that makes absolutely no sense and is completely incomprehensible. And occasionally becomes stuck on screen even after exiting the book. There is also the lack of simplifiers, like the addition of a materials chest that allows the user to smith without retrieving materials or having to put them back.

Depends on what you like in a game. On my first playthrough, the entire time all I wanted was my own personal house, somewhere to go back to, display things, decorate, etc. I always enjoy games that have a bit of that slice of life feel. The forge DLC does exactly that, while adding some side activities/quest lines as well.

I enjoyed the small stories and the activities give you something to do even after the story. New forging recipes are always welcome, but I hoped to be able to craft maces and hammers by myself or at least the pole weapons. I expected that we couldn't forge our own armor, but please give me an option to change the colors.

I played it on my Hardcore save file and regretted it greatly. The most disappointing thing for me was that the blacksmithing was not expanded at all. It's trivial and repetitive. You should have been able to forge customized weapons (polearms included!) and learn the skill to forge your own pieces of armour. There is no replayability whatsoever.

It's great mechanically and narratively. Mechanically it gives you a home base with everything you need. And it also gives you repeating quests so that you can enter into a nice routine gameplay loop to slow down the second part of KCD2. Every day there's lucrative opportunities. You get to pour extra funds into customizing your home functionally and aesthetically.

It's worth it just to have a base that includes everything (eventually). Having to go to four different places to have vendors, drying rack, bed, chest, etc. drove me crazy in the base game. You eventually end up with everything you need in your base.

If you want to role play as a Burgher then it's alright. Fundamentally it's a DLC about forging. But it doesn't do two key things: firstly you can't create armour or cast yourself. Secondly there is no change to the crafting system; this means you can still forge a sword to top quality by alternatively hitting each half of the blade and without flipping it over. So the mechanics central to the DLC have not been improved.

It definitely needs a patch. There are several glitches/bugs in the game. Feels rushed on that part. Apart from that I enjoyed the game but it ended too quickly. Reputation system maxed quickly and I had grinded loads of groschen pre-dlc. I finished my forge quickly.

Absolutely worth it as is the case with most warhorse dlc, it has a pretty engaging storyline that can be used to break up tension when you want a break from the main quests, the forge they let you upgrade has a lot of useful additions that you can build that add really nice bonuses and obviously who doesn't like having a nice house to themselves that has all the crafting stations you could need and nice npcs to live with.

Well depends what you're looking for. If you want a narrative driven DLC then no. The story is quite basic. However if you love the smithing mechanic and home building, then this DLC is perfect. So basically it's more of a mechanical DLC and not a narrative DLC.

people just call it underwhelming because they themselves set bullshit expectations like 'henry will be able to cast armor' or 'theresa will make a comeback' and are now surprised that the whole point of a dlc called 'legacy of the forge' is continuing the legacy of the forge

Not gonna lie, massively disappointed it's mostly a story-less DLC forcing you to do menial busywork to progress. From the Ashes was also mostly story-free, but had some smaller nice elements to it like unique interactions for recruiting people for the village that you met previously in your quests, and follow-up interactions with them once they're already there.
