Summary

Kingdom Come: Deliverance II – Mysteria Ecclesiae is the third and final story DLC for KCD2, set inside a monastery where Henry investigates a mysterious illness. Reddit sentiment skews negative to mixed, with the dominant complaint being that it fell far short of what Warhorse marketed — developers teased 10–12 hours of content, heavy alchemy, character development for Henry, and a significant someone from his past, none of which materialized. Most players finished it in 4–8 hours, and the sickness resolves itself in a cutscene without player involvement. A vocal minority genuinely loved the atmosphere, the Latin choral music, and the final confrontation's staging, giving it a slight edge over the Brushes with Death DLC in their rankings. The Gold Edition is widely considered poor value given the sum of all three DLCs.

Pros

  • Monastery atmosphere and environment design praised as immersive and visually impressive, with many players calling it the best-looking location in the game
  • Latin choral music (especially 'Agnus Dei') frequently highlighted as a standout, with several users saying songs got stuck in their heads
  • Final confrontation cutscene and voice acting for the antagonist Zacharias received genuine praise — his farewell speech described as emotionally nuanced
  • Strong historical and theological detail rewarded players with scholarship builds, with period accuracy cited as one of the DLC's strongest elements
  • Story setup and early mystery tension described as genuinely compelling before the payoff disappointed — the premise hooked most players

Cons

  • Actual playtime of 4–8 hours versus the marketed 10–12 hours; multiple threads document users finishing it in under 6 hours including side quests
  • Main villain Zacharias telegraphed as the antagonist from the first scene — Reddit nearly universally called it one of the most predictable reveals in recent RPG DLC
  • Forced stealth throughout a game built around player freedom is the single most common gameplay complaint; downed guards trigger permanent criminal flags that can't be cleared without reloading
  • Alchemy and medical themes barely used despite being the DLC's stated focus — players note Henry does more doctoring in the base game than in this monastery-set story
  • The illness is resolved in a final cutscene with no player agency; the disease type is never identified, and the cure is handed to the player rather than discovered
  • Significant bugs reported: black-screen map, players arrested after achieving the good ending, items disappearing from the Legacy of the Forge house after entering the DLC zone

The Monastery Looks Great. Warhorse Just Forgot to Put a Game Inside It.

Sedlec is one of the most atmospheric locations in KCD2, but Reddit players consistently describe spending more time sneaking past the same patrol routes than actually engaging with the story. Named NPCs who never appear in quests, a map with half its space unused, and a mystery solved in the opening hour left many feeling the environment was built for a longer DLC that got cut.

Gold Edition Buyers Feel Burned by the Final DLC

A recurring thread across r/kingdomcome is regret over buying the Gold Edition. Players who paid for all three DLCs up front describe Mysteria Ecclesiae as the breaking point — not because it is the worst game they have played, but because Warhorse explicitly positioned it as the flagship expansion comparable to Blood and Wine, and it arrived shorter and less polished than either of the two DLCs before it.

Stealth Fans Are the One Group Who Actually Enjoyed This DLC

A consistent minority on Reddit — players who gravitate toward lockpicking, sneaking, and social builds — report having a genuinely good time with Mysteria Ecclesiae. The forced stealth that frustrates combat-focused players becomes the whole point for this audience, and the monastery's maze-like layout rewards patience rather than punishing it. For everyone else, it reads as padding.

Mid, it was interesting at times but I understand when people say they expected something else. I think it was a mistake by the Warhorse marketing team to release it as the last DLC and market it as such, it doesn't feel like the epic end one of the best games of all time deserves, I think it would have been viewed more positively if it was marketed as an interesting adventure to do mid main story but not as THE last adventure

It might seem harsh. But I feel they were lazy with this DLC. They didn't even get a unique voice actor for the abbot. Where is the extra content, it feels like a rip off…. After all this and Henry is still not knighted, ridiculous.

Disappointing, if it wasn't for the forge dlc I'd genuinely feel regret for buying the gold version.

It is funny that Nebakov Henry was way more of a handy doctor than he ever was as an assistant to an actual fuckin medieval doctor.

I may just be in a sort of honeymoon phase with it. I thought that shit was fucking epic I loved the location and theme. The potential plague got me hooked instantly. Finding a holy relic all the jazz. I do agree with the sentiment that as a 'final dlc' it fell short.

I'm writing here only because, as soon as I finished the DLC, I searched the web for similarly disappointing experiences. It's decidedly disheartening to wait months to enter the monastery (a renowned center of medical culture and knowledge, at least for the time period), especially knowing that the DLC's story would focus on a mysterious illness, only to then barely use the alchemy bench.

I was hoping we would have more time hanging around the monastery before the story really starts, maybe have some alchemy repeatable quests like LotF did for blacksmithing, and I thought the story was a bit short and confusing but I liked it.

I'd love to explore the monastery but for some reason the devs decided to make the entire thing forced stealth. Getting real tired of trying to go from one side of the map to the other & taking 20 min to sneak past the guards with random patrol routes.

The whole disease aspect was okay, but we never found out what it was, just where it came from. I was hoping for a murder mystery in the monastery. Playing detective, a bit like the fifth commandment quest. Overall, as the final piece of dlc, felt a bit 'meh.'

The developers 'promised', among other things: big character development for Henry - nothing happens; dealing with the sickness - it's cured in the final cutscene, you don't even find out what exactly it was; someone from Henry's past - no-one appears; more alchemy - you get to brew two new potions, one is from a side Activity. I generally liked the DLC, but the devs totally overhyped it and overpromised what it actually had.

Like A Woman's Lot had one half with Theresa and another with Johanka to pad it with enough content, Mysteria Ecclesiae is sorely needing a second storyline. We should've got something with the Saint Barbara construction site as well.

Even though I enjoyed the DLC, I have several criticisms that I think stop the writing from being excellent. The lockdown happens way too quickly, and is overcame way too easily. I feel like it would have been good for the lockdown to happen only after the infirmary is overwhelmed with patients, and maybe the Abbot is stubborn. There was several hours of gameplay potential relating to curing and tending to patients, as well as finding the cure for the disease itself, which could have been used.

I agree, i just finished the dlc and i was like 'is this it?' the sickness just disappeared and everything's just fine? it was not worth waiting all this time and the rest of the dlcs feel like side quests to me also. Honestly i love kcd2 but it lost so much of its magic from kcd 1.

Disappointing, considering they touted this as the big big DLC that they were working on for many months and promised 12+ hours of content. Brushes and Forge were supposed to be the appetizers compared to this. I managed to finish it in 6 hours, and that was with 30 minutes of just wandering around the grounds taking in the pretty sights, and 30 minutes of looking for crayfish in the pond (the most infuriating garbage mission).

Man I just played it on stream last night and we beat it in 8 hours (the dlc was advertised as being 12 hours long) and I've done every side quest as well. Also, why make such a big zone for the dlc if we only explore like half of it? I've only been to the soldiers camp area or around there once in the entire dlc and it was to pick something up.

I hate it, also fuck mandatory stealth sections in games where stealth usually is optional.

I thought it was great. Even though I enjoyed the Forge DLC's story and theme more, I think Mysteria Ecclesiae is far better executed. The few fetch quests are at least not repetitive, and the pace of the story flowed very well. Is it perfect? No. The ending, in particular, felt a little flat to me.

I wasn't keeping up with what the devs were saying about it in the lead up (though was still pretty underwhelmed), but I can totally understand why some people are really disappointed in it if they had those expectations in mind. They failed to meet every one of those claims.

My personal problem was, that they advertised that this will be the end of henry's story yet it did not close it at all, if this is really how the franchise ends I'm kinda disappointed. I thought that finally Henry might get knighted or some progress to his character but nothing, for me it lacked any kind of closure.

I honestly really liked it. I might be biased, because it REALLY, REALLY reminded me of the first Witcher game with its unsettling atmosphere. I just find it a bit sad that they made the main villain literally LOOK like a villain from the first scene. And yeah, the tension disappeared after the mystery unraveled. But the atmosphere and build-up made it the best KCD2 DLC for me.

I managed to milk 30 extra hours out of forging and crafting etc while doing the missions. This one I barely got 10. Disappointed for sure.

Did it ever even explicitly say what the sickness was? Or was it just left as 'not the plague?' It seemed like it ramped up really hard and then just fizzled out after the conspiracy was dealt with. Almost felt like the plague was padding rather than a story element that we were supposed to care about. Warhorse really seems to struggle with DLCs honestly.

Overall. For how great the base game is the DLCs were not that great, and pretty lazy. Mysteria Ecclesiae was probably the worst for me because 90% was talking and sneaking around the monastery. The story was not interesting the main villain was not great and I had to force myself to finish it.

The gameplay was alright, I enjoyed exploring the monastery in stealth, but the plot is so cliche and predictable. I realized who the antagonists are as soon as I met them, I was expecting some plot twists and more complicated political intrigues considering the people involved, but there were none. There's really very little mystery.

The story was good, the place felt real and lived-in, the characters had personalities, and I really enjoyed playing a story driven RPG for a bit. You built relationships with different characters and you had many rounds of interactions with them, it's something I missed from most of the map.

It was disappointing because of how they promoted the DLC, it was supposed to be much bigger and better than the other DLCs, something like KCD's Blood and Wine. In the end, it was much shorter than expected, the writing quality of the story was significantly worse than the main story's too.

I haven't listened to the dev's statements before release, my expectations were based only on Warhorse's excellent track record. People expected high quality DLCs that match the core game, and that didn't happen. I would not buy the gold edition again.

Mysteria Ecclesiae felt kinda empty. I was hoping for that last adventure of the game after finishing it 2 times and the stakes were kinda low after having a full blown siege right before it.

I actually really enjoyed Ecclesia's storytelling, and that final cinematic when you're approaching the traitor with your crusader's sword was stunning. The painter's DLC did very little for me. The story wasn't particularly interesting and it added nothing to the story or Henry.

I purchased the pass expecting expansions on the level of CD Projekt RED's Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. The content itself is underwhelming for a paid season pass. The crawfish hunt was straight-up torture. Hands down the worst part of the DLC. The second I tried to quietly drop a guard, the game slapped a permanent criminal flag on me for the entire zone. Can't talk your way out, can't pay it off, can't even leave and come back.

The villain was EXTREMELY predictable. Hands down my biggest critique of the dlc. It's like wow, Sigismund's personal physician was the big baddie this whole time? No way. It was so obvious that I thought a huge twist was going to come… but it never did lol.

The environment was cool, but the plot was too short, the gameplay too easy (my Henry had maxed-out stats, but even some mechanics like throwing rocks to distract the guards are way too overpowered), and the conclusion of the investigation was far too obvious. I expected so much more. It's a 6/10 just for the visual pleasure of discovering the monastery.

I thought it was a really good story with some great cutscenes and good suspense through playing. Overall I enjoyed it but as a big fan of KCD2, quite biased. Main critique — the DLC is way too short to be named 'the last adventure.'

Liked the story! The cut scenes were top notch, both endings were really well done! Probably the best dlc in KCD 2. Also really liked that it contained the set ups at the end of KCD 2 with even more in the final dlc about where things are headed if there's a KCD 3. And personally I liked the investigation and stealth nature of the DLC.

When they introduced that guy and he was so obviously the villain as he had no other narrative reason to be present I was like, well, I look forward to finding out how you will creatively subvert my expectations, Warhorse. And then the rest of the DLC was realising I had been too kind.

I'm playing this now and Googled it to see if others hated it too. I agree with you on the crime system making this suck ass. I also don't like the stealth system, so this is a double whammy for me. I hate this DLC so much.

The questline is too short. Apart from the impressive cutscene direction, other aspects feel rather bland. Moreover, I had hoped to see more content related to Henry's ultimate ending, but only a brief dialogue at the end hints at his future path.

I wasn't a huge fan. Compared to the rest of the game I felt like the quality was lacking. Forced stealth in a game that encourages exploration just felt like a way to make players spend more time actually playing the game but not in a good way. DLC was definitely done a lot better in the first game.

I enjoyed the Covid mystery. It definitely maxed out my stealth levels. I felt like the writing of the Kuttenberg region in general was rushed compared to Trosky. Characters have depth on Trosk and then you're presented with a bunch of shallow characters in Kutten and then rushed through a story.

I feel you man I got soft locked out of the main quest because of a game breaking unfixable bug but I never experienced that one and the dlc was smooth for me except for that stupid crayfish quest. You wanna love the game but these bugs and low effort parts of the game leaves a bad taste.
