Summary

The AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT has earned a strong reputation among real owners as a genuinely capable card at its price point, with most users reporting stable performance, cool thermals, and smooth 1440p and 4K gaming experiences. Sentiment across Reddit is largely positive, with former Nvidia users consistently saying they don't regret the switch. The biggest ongoing debate isn't about raw performance — it's about regional pricing, availability at MSRP, and how the gap vs. the RTX 5070 Ti plays out in different markets. AMD Adrenalin software gets more praise than expected from switchers, though a vocal minority still reports intermittent driver crashes. Overall, it's viewed as one of the strongest value GPUs of its generation for anyone in a market where it lands near its $599 MSRP.

Pros

  • Raster performance matches or comes within 5-10% of the RTX 5070 Ti in most games, despite costing $150-200 less at MSRP — a gap that's hard to ignore for pure gaming use cases
  • 16GB GDDR6 VRAM gives it a meaningful edge over the RTX 5070's 12GB, with owners citing better future-proofing and smoother performance in VRAM-heavy titles
  • Runs cool and quiet with most AIB models — Sapphire Nitro+, PowerColor Hellhound, and XFX Mercury consistently praised for thermals, with hotspot temps under 85°C in most configurations
  • Undervolting unlocks easy efficiency gains: many owners report -50 to -120mV stable offsets, keeping temps lower and performance higher with no extra effort
  • AMD Adrenalin software is getting strong endorsements from ex-Nvidia users, with multiple owners saying it feels cleaner and more intuitive than GeForce Experience
  • FSR4 with Optiscaler brings near-DLSS image quality to a wide range of titles, and owners using it at 4K report genuinely impressive results on FSR Quality mode

Cons

  • Ray tracing and path tracing performance lags behind the RTX 5070 Ti by a notable margin — path tracing in particular is largely unplayable at 4K, making the card a poor choice for RT-heavy setups
  • MSRP availability has been a persistent problem since launch — the card spent months above $599 in the US and remains above MSRP in many international markets, eroding its value proposition in those regions
  • A subset of owners reports recurring driver crashes, especially in specific titles like Ghost of Tsushima and TLOU Part 2 on Windows — PSU quality and aggressive undervolting are often the culprit, but not always
  • FSR4 still lacks Vulkan support as of the card's one-year anniversary, a gap that frustrates Linux users and those running Vulkan-based titles who can't access AMD's best upscaling technology
  • DLSS remains a meaningful advantage for Nvidia — games with native DLSS support deliver a noticeably smoother experience than relying on Optiscaler workarounds, especially for less technically inclined users
  • Long-term driver support concerns are starting to surface, with some users noting AMD's history of dropping support for older RDNA cards and pointing to the 9000 series' relatively early lifecycle stage

Is Crashing Still a Real Problem on the 9070 XT?

Most owners report rock-solid stability, but a consistent thread of crash reports runs through community discussions. The culprit is usually a weak PSU, aggressive undervolting, or game-specific issues rather than a hardware defect — but it's worth knowing before you buy.

The $599 MSRP Only Tells Part of the Story

In the US and parts of Europe, the 9070 XT is genuinely excellent value. In Australia, Southeast Asia, Canada, and much of the developing world, the price difference vs. the 5070 Ti shrinks dramatically — sometimes to $50 or less — and the calculus changes entirely.

Former Nvidia Users Are Staying on Team Red

One of the clearest signals in community threads is how many owners who switched from RTX cards say they have no regrets. AMD Adrenalin, cooler thermals, and 16GB VRAM are the most cited reasons they're not going back anytime soon.

Getting one of those at MSRP is a deal. I'm very happy with my Sapphire Pure that I got at UK MSRP.

The 9070XT is about €80-100 cheaper than the 5070ti which is a somewhat better position to be in, though the 16GB of VRAM is honestly the only thing keeping it any kind of relevant when prices are close.

Most RX 9070 XT models tested by Hardware Unboxed perform within about 5% of each other. The top performers were XFX Mercury, PowerColor Red Devil, Sapphire Nitro+, Sapphire PURE, and ASRock Taichi. PowerColor Hellhound was the recommendation for the best balance of size, noise, and price.

It was a fake MSRP all along. AMD gave rebates to retailers during the initial launch, after those ran out, we now see the real price. AMD never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity.

I love my 9070xt as it performs great at 4K 60 in all games and never crashes. It's paired with a 5800x3d and 32 GB of RAM.

Outside of US, 9070 XT at MSRP is much less common. For example, 9070 XT in my country is being sold for 760$ while 5070 Ti is 800$. Raw performance is cool but this price gap doesn't exactly justify switching away from Nvidia.

I got mine day 1 release and it's been amazing. I'm gaming at 1440p and there's not a single game I can't play at max settings AND I've under volted it. I highly recommend it.

'MSRP' 9070/XT existed for about 3 minutes on launch day. They handed out rebates to retailers to offer a small number of the cards at a fake price which is also the price they told reviewers it would be. Pretty shitty behaviour all around this gen.

My 9070xt gigabyte aorus elite (+7800x3d) is currently #1 in the world for Solar Bay on 3Dmark for those components. I gotta say, I'm so happy with my 9070xt. It runs cool.

Have mine for 6 weeks now. Wouldn't trade it in for a 5070ti even. Absolute great card. It runs cool and after a bit of fan tuning really quiet. I like the AMD software far better than Nvidia's. The card has been 100% stable for me.

Use it at 4K on a 65" S90c OLED. No complaints. Most games will get 80-100fps on FSR4 Quality which looks very close to native. I'm playing Silent Hill f at the moment at 4K FSR4 Quality with max ray tracing and high/very high settings and get about 90fps average.

Have over 150 hours playtime with it, only crashes i had was due to aggressive undervolt which is normal, otherwise was flawless. XFX 9070 xt quicksilver.

Love my Hellhound, clean design, super quiet. I was actually about to go with XFX until I saw some reviews showing the fan speed much higher than I would like, I ended up getting the Hellhound and no regrets.

I upgraded from a 3080 to a 9070xt and for me the performance boost has been well worth the price I paid. I bought it for $650. Went from 10gb of gpu memory to 16. All the games I play on it perform better at higher graphical settings. Was well worth it for me.

Still love it, using it on CachyOS, and I have zero regrets selling my RTX 4080 to a friend for $800 to pick this up instead. Great experience overall.

I had a 9070 XT crashing frequently but it ended up being due to a PSU issue. Make sure not to cheap out on the power supply if you go with the 9070 XT.

Download game, go to settings, 'Highest', done. No, for real, stable as heck, and performs like a beast. Never have I been so happy with a gaming setup up until now! AMD Adrenalin is just 1000x better than Nvidia's GeForce experience. I'm not going back to team green anytime soon if it keeps on going like that!

Smashes the non ti - marches the ti more usually. My nitro plus is a beast. From a 3080. 3300mhz, 56c, silent. Adrenaline is awesome vs nvidia. Good to be back after 10 years.

I've owned 5 (still own 2) and they've all been awesome cards. I only do 4k and they're more than capable as long as you use FSR. In Horizon Forbidden West the Burning Shores DLC area I average 102.9fps with 1% lows of 71.6fps with everything maxed and FSR quality.

I switched from Nvidia to AMD, solely due to Nvidia being too expensive. The 5060 Ti 16GB is £400 in the UK and the 9060-XT 16GB I bought was £295. Great card glad I switched to team red. Those games that don't have FSR4 support I use Optiscaler. Works perfectly on Alan Wake 2, Stalker 2 and Clair Obscur. Don't even miss DLSS anymore.

Hey man, I switched from Nvidia to AMD Radeon 9070xt. Not going back to Nvidia. 9800x3d + 9070xt. First I was hesitant but watched all the reviews, I'm really happy I switched to AMD.

Got a Red Devil that replaced my RX 6800 XT. Very happy with the upgrade. No stability issues. Currently playing Cyberpunk in 3440x1440, everything turned to the max and RT psycho with FSR Quality and it runs extremely well.

I went from an Xbox Series S on a 1440p/60 Hz TV to a prebuilt rig with a Ryzen 7 9700X, RX 9070 XT, 32 GB RAM. At 1440p the 9070 XT pushes ultra/max on basically everything I've tried, and even 4K is way better than I expected — a lot of games run 100+ fps on high/semi-ultra settings.

Using 9070XT at 1440 and getting avg of 120+ FPS. Some much higher. No crashing except at launch with F1, fixed with game patch so more likely a game thing not drivers. Even getting 120-150 in Borderlands 4 max settings.

I'm currently playing Indiana Jones at Supreme res or Ultra, 4K 144hz, Path Tracing is off, and I'm seeing consistent average of 110fps on my Sapphire Nitro+ Rx 9070 XT with -40uv and Fast Timing.

I was underwhelmed when it landed for 1440p ultra wide but after realizing I could have it setup at -120mv and -15% Power level and run virtually every game on ultra presets with a target framerate of 144, it easily blew my expectations right out the water.

It's a great card but games constantly crash and I haven't figured out why. I've tried DDU, drivers only, and updating BIOS. My next troubleshooting step is going to be a fresh install of windows if it keeps happening.

Runs pretty well overall with good performance and no major issues. I did have a few crashes caused by in-game FSR settings, but aside from that everything's been fine so far. I personally prefer Nvidia for maximum comfort — the Nvidia control panel feels clearer — but for the price it's really good.

In the UK I got a 9070 xt for £599 and the cheapest 5070 ti was £680, mind you, most of them were £750. There is zero chance that a 5070 ti is better value in the UK for gaming considering the £80-£150 difference.

1 year of using 9070 (non-XT). It's a good videocard, with occasional driver crashes. And it's a disappointment on a software side.

I have a 7700X and a 9070XT and it's been everything I could want in an upgrade from a 6700XT. The only issues I've had with the 9070XT have been my own user errors otherwise for games it's been amazing these past few months.

As a gamer I have been very happy with my 9070XT. I run it in Linux and Windows, very clean systems, and have had no crashing or errors. My games run at high detail levels with no need for render scaling or frame generation about 90% of the time at 4K.

I've been running a Sapphire Pulse from launch with a 9700X at 1440p. Bar from a few minor hiccups, the performance is amazing. I can run at 144 fps high in most games without breaking a sweat.

This graphics card is dogshit. Every single game that you play you will have to do some bullshit to prevent it from crashing. Don't even think about running two monitors on this. The AMD software is horrendous. Anything above 50% utilization, it crashes.

9070XTs can be purchased for 599 without it being immediately sold out now. $150 dollar difference is pretty crazy, especially given that the 9070xt has better raster performance.

The problems are two: drivers and long term support. You'll only use it for gaming and probably drivers will be eol'd in 3 years, as already happened with the previous ones.
