Summary

The RTX 2070 Super has earned a loyal following among Reddit users who've owned it since 2019 and still see no compelling reason to upgrade. The dominant sentiment is that it remains a solid performer for 1080p and 1440p gaming with DLSS, capable of handling most titles without breaking a sweat. It's widely recommended as a used budget pick, but only at the right price — Reddit consistently pegs fair market value around $120–$180, and anything above $200 draws sharp criticism. The card's main ceiling is its 8GB VRAM, which starts showing strain in more demanding modern titles, and the lack of frame generation locks it out of DLSS 3+ features available on newer cards.

Pros

  • Still delivers smooth 1080p and capable 1440p gaming in 2025 — users report 80–120+ FPS on titles like Lies of P, AC Mirage, and Hell Let Loose at high settings with DLSS enabled
  • DLSS support adds meaningful longevity — one user noted jumping from stuttery 60fps to 100+ fps stable at 1440p after pairing it with a CPU upgrade, with DLSS doing the heavy lifting
  • Excellent used value at the right price point ($120–$170 range) — multiple users confirmed buying or building around it successfully at that price for budget or secondary builds
  • Proven reliability over years of heavy use — numerous owners report zero hardware issues since 2019 launch, including one unit running 24/7 Folding@Home workloads since day one
  • Handles creative workloads and multi-monitor setups — one user runs triple 1440p monitors for sim racing at ~100fps in ACC, another drives three 4K monitors via a dual-card workstation
  • NVENC hardware encoder is a practical bonus for streamers and video editors, with users noting it offloads encoding from the CPU effectively

Cons

  • 8GB VRAM is the hard ceiling — modern titles like Alan Wake 2, Hogwarts Legacy, and Tarkov push into shared RAM territory, causing significant performance degradation
  • No DLSS Frame Generation (DLSS 3+) support — this feature is locked to RTX 40-series and above, putting the 2070 Super at a structural disadvantage vs newer mid-range cards
  • Coil whine is a recurring hardware complaint, particularly on Gigabyte variants — multiple users experienced it, with MSI models generally faring better
  • Ray tracing performance is underwhelming — users report needing heavy DLSS downscaling (540p→1080p) just to maintain 60fps with RT on, and enabling RT in Elden Ring tanks fps into the teens
  • Overpriced on the used market relative to alternatives — community consensus puts fair value at $120–$150, but listings at $200–$270 are common; the Intel Arc B580 at $249 new outperforms it significantly
  • GPU upgrades alone won't fix stutters — several threads confirmed the Ryzen 2700X (common pairing) is a major bottleneck, meaning a CPU upgrade is often required before the 2070 Super can show its true performance

The CPU Trap Nobody Tells You About

Dozens of users came to Reddit frustrated that their 2070 Super was stuttering in modern games — only to find out their Ryzen 2700X was the real culprit. Dropping in a 5700X3D transformed the experience, with one user going from choppy 60fps to a stable 100+ fps at 1440p without touching the GPU.

Reddit Says $150, Not $270

The used market has a persistent pricing problem with the 2070 Super. Community members are quick to call out sellers asking $200+ as either out of touch or actively scamming — pointing to the Intel Arc B580 at $249 new and the RX 6800 at $300 as obviously better alternatives at those prices.

8GB VRAM: The Wall That Snuck Up on Long-Term Owners

Users who happily gamed on this card for years are now hitting a hard wall — not from raw GPU performance, but from VRAM exhaustion. Several noted that titles like Alan Wake 2 were the first games to make them feel like the card had genuinely aged out, while e-sports and older AAA titles still run great.

I dont see why people wouldn't. It obviously won't have frame gen or do well at path tracing, but it is still a perfectly capable card and still has DLSS!

I agree with this entire post. I built a PC about 3 years ago. I was so excited as I'd never really built a nice build before. Originally I wanted an RX580, but they were out of those, so I went for the GTX1060. It was a great card, but it was only temporary as I got the AMD Vega 64.

I unfortunately had a nasty coil whine of my 2070s from gigabyte and so did my 2080s from gigabyte. Wound up with a 2080s from EVGA. None the less, gigabyte made a solid motherboard for me and I love the look of there AORUS lineup!

Your 2070 may have some life left in it, believe it or not. Your CPU may be the culprit here. If you can find a 5700X3D or similar to drop into your motherboard, your stutters may disappear.

Your friend is either ignorant or scamming you. 270$ for a 6 year old card short of a 2080ti is unacceptable. The intel b580 is 20$ cheaper and significantly more powerful. Tell him you guys can talk if he brings it down to 150$.

2070 super 'from a friend' should be like $100 max. I wouldn't pay over $150 in the current market let alone a friend. For $350 you can get a 3080, for $300 you can get a rx 6800....

No i dont see reason to pay that when the much better arc b580 is $250. 20% better than a 3060

I had an MSI 980, one of the best looking cards and no coil whine. Upgraded to the 2070s gigabyte version, and oh boy was there coil whine. So, refunded for an MSI version, no coil whine or very minimal where you need to be right up to the case to hear it. Going with MSI again was the best decision.

With DLSS, it still can be used for another couple of years, imo. Atleast until next gen of console released.

I actually splurged on the Aorus 2070 super. That card is built like a tank, it runs very silently even with fans at 100% it isn't obnoxiously loud. And the temps in my build haven't exceeded 65 degrees Celsius running even certain games comfortably at 4k.

I just upgraded to a 5080 from a 2070 super. And i was surprised that the only difference is that i can run 4k really. The 2070 was actually playing a lot of fps games in 1440p. Tho playing tarkov again is a different story. But it's a good card.

I still have one and it's been a trooper. I kind of look at it this way - if your current rig will play games at least as well as the current console, then you shouldn't really be locked out of too many games. My system runs Expedition 33 and Street Fighter 6 without missing a beat.

BF6 actually made me realise I can last another year. Found I was getting consistently 60+ FPS with DLSS Performance alongside my 5900x CPU.

Have no problems running 1440p on RTX 2070 Super with a Ryzen 7 2700X. If you are still running a 1440p/1080p monitor it's still a decent card if money is tight.

you can find a RTX 3070 for around that price, which wipes the 2070 super. They're literally cheaper than $270 on eBay.

Depends on the games. Just upgraded from a 2070 Super for VR but for normal games at 1440p I was still hitting high settings at 60fps and above on most games. It's the 8GB VRAM that holds it back mostly.

I got a 2070 Super back in November, and i got the rest of my PC (Ryzen 7 2700X) in August 2018. I have a 1080p 144Hz monitor since January 2018. I love the card, but i hate the fact that it's being underutilized in most games. I could easily get stable 144FPS if games had better optimization, in most games it has an usage of 60-70%.

ryzen 3600. depends on the game obviously but not having any issues getting above 60 fps at 1440p at ~medium or higher settings in whatever i've thrown at it. especially in games with DLSS

mine has worked great since the day I got it. It runs most games great in 1080p for example helldivers 2 gets 60 fps 1080p high and 100+ fps 1080p low.

It's still a solid 1440p card with DLSS if you aren't crazy about Ultra settings. There's no reason to upgrade if it does what you want it to.

I also bought it in 2019! And was running it until I just got the 5070. Huge upgrade. But my Gigabyte 2070 Super was going strong. It ran really hot though. The 5070 FE is much cooler/quieter.

2070 non super user here. Had it since 2019 aswell. Card works wonders. Repasted it last week, because my temps were a bit to the high side (88c) and now with new paste and a undervolt, it is sitting at a chilling 62c. I dont see the point in upgrading, because it does the job, since im gaming at 1080p.

Still using yes, I only play in 1920 x 1080 as that's what my 24" monitor puts out. I think it'd start to show its age if I started doing 4K but I can play new titles fine.

I built my pc during pandemic and the 2070 super is still going strong! I don't play anything too intensive with destiny 2 and league of legends being my main games. I probably will only upgrade if I need to.

Still using a 2070 super with a 5700x3d, cpu upgrade from a 3700x, pretty much eliminated stutters in my games and boosted performance at least 25-50% in some games. This is all in 1440p. GTA 5 enhanced gets like 80-110fps stable at almost max settings with ray tracing and dlss balanced/performance.

I was in the same boat. I5 6600 from 10 years ago and an Rtx 2070 from 7 years ago. I was struggling on newer AAA games so I upgraded the cpu, motherboard, and ram and holy shit was the i5 6600 holding back the 2070. It was decently fast on the newest AAA games and even managed cyberpunk without too much difficulty.

I believe this issue is mostly a CPU issue rather than a GPU issue. I've seen the 3700X struggle randomly with gaming and experiencing stutters in today's titles, so based on that alone I can say that the 2700X is likely your culprit here.

ive had a 2070s since 2019, the only game that occasionally struggles is helldivers 2. i also get an outdated drivers warning from Deadlock, but it causes zero issues and the updates are for 30xx and above. it's super solid for 90% of games that are out rn

I have a 2070 Super and I run triple 1440p monitors for sim racing. Many people suggested it wouldn't work for triple-screen 1440p gaming, but it works fine. I get around 100 fps on high settings in ACC.

Just for anyone coming here in the future, DLSS works totally fine and i can game at 2k resolution with 100-144fps on all high settings thanks to DLSS. Ray tracing also works, but it's a vram hog.

Great for old gen titles and e-sports games which can easily run with less than 8 GB VRAM. More modern titles come with memory problems when the GPU starts using way slower shared GPU memory (RAM). Still a massive upgrade from 1660 Super, but don't expect miracles with 8 GB card.

I am using a 2070 Super with a R5 3600XT. I am currently playing Lies of P and I am getting 90-120 FPS on 1440p max graphics DLSS quality. Before that I was playing AC Mirage getting 60-80 FPS on 1440p high graphics DLSS quality.

Just upgraded from a 2070 super to a 4070 ti super. I play in 1440p and honestly would've been happy holding on to the 2070 super longer if not for Alan Wake 2 being my most anticipated game in years. That was the first game that really seemed to give that card a run for its money. Just about everything else was still perfectly playable for me.

Still get a solid 50-60 fps on 1440p playing Elden Ring, but if I turn RT on performance drops like a mother. Drops into the high teens on some fights, high 20's in the overworld. Basically it's unplayable w/ RT on.

I just switched out from a 2070 super to a 4070ti Super. The 2070 super works great and can play most games on high. I will say that if you are doing a new build you shouldn't get it as it will probably only hold up for another 2-3 years the way these games are coming out unoptimized. But it's a great card.

It holds up well in modern games, especially at 1080p but it faces fierce competition in the new market from the RX6600 and RX6650XT, and on the used market from the 1080 Ti. Stretching to a used 3070, 2080 Ti, or new 6700XT would be a much better uplift (about 2x better).

My uncle has one even now. I was actually surprised that this card was hitting 60fps locked in 4k max. I really understood that this card is a good one to buy. IDC what people say. this card plays every normal game at 60fps+.
