Are we sure the 'S' stands for 'Super' and not just 'Slightly better'?

S - Slight, U - Uptick in, P - Performance over, E - Existing, R - Regular. Overall doesn't seem particularly worth it compared to the price/performance gains of the 2070S.

Honestly, they aren't even remotely in the same price bracket. EXTRA EXTRA a $700 video card is faster than a $400 video card! OMG what a fucking revelation.

I understand it's not that much better than the 2080 but at least it's a bump for the same price at least.

A 2080 super is a little better than a 6700 and a 4060. 4060 ti and 6700 xt is much better and a 3060 ti is a little better than a 2080 super. You should be good at 1080p.

The RTX2080S is 17% faster at 1440p for 75% more price according to HWU. You decide whether that is better value or not.

Here's a slight upgrade because we don't want to risk cannibalizing the 2080 ti market with a product that costs barely more than half the 2080 ti's price. - nvidia, probably

It's perfectly capable. I passed my regular 2080 to my son just recently and it's been a huge uplift from a 980 he was using. CPU is a 6700k. Your CPU is going to hold you back though but from a 970 it will be a big change.

Man I really wanna upgrade from my 1080 because it's starting to show its age at 1440p, but all these new cards are so underwhelming. One would think that after 3 years there would be something interesting to upgrade to.

I was playing at 1440p on my 2080 non-super. Aside from the most cutting edge games, it'll be great for 1080 and playable 1440. Especially since there have been so many good games in the last 5 years supporting rtx.

My buddy had a gaming pc with a 2080 super and a Ryzen 5 5600 and still got 100+ fps in COD, Forza, etc at 1440p with medium/high settings depending on the game.

It's still a fine card for 1080p. Stable enough for good 1440p on most games. Has noteworthy features but stuck on older/lesser versions.

That ancient CPU will definitely hold it back a good bit.

If they're close in performance I'd go for the 4060. It uses less power and you have the option of frame gen.

I used a 2080Ti with a 3440x1440 screen. I could still push out a 90ish fps at medium settings with most games. It still is a decent card, but you will see its limits if you want to push graphical settings depending on your resolution.

I'm still using a 2080 non-super. It's been fine for 1440p for most games. Gonna be looking to upgrade it in a year or two though.

I mean cool, I guess. If you wanted a 2080, now you can get something for the same price but slightly better. You're getting a better deal, maybe old 2080s will be going cheaper on clearance but I think it's fair to say this was really underwhelming given the decent increases that 2060 super and 2070super offered.

At 1440 and 4k, the 2080 will be slightly faster due to more bandwidth. However, if you're getting a 4060, you're likely not gaming at 4k anyway so it's irrelevant. The 4060 has DLSS and frame gen which puts it up over the top.

Of course it's still good. Don't listen to those people on reddit who only recommend high end or last gen stuff.

15% more fps than the 5700 XT for 75% more money. Great, a better use for the money I was gonna throw in the trash.

I'm still using mine from a few years ago, paired with a 9900k, and I'm not having any problems running games running at 3440x1440.

Just like I guessed 4%-5% performance uplift over 2080. My 2080 Samsung vram easily runs faster. My clocks out of the box 1995 and 2100 OC. Only smart buy is 2070S in the lineup. 2080S and 2080 ti comes at a premium price.

If it's being offered for free, take it. I still use my 2080 Super and I can still play the games I want at decent settings without trouble. You can use the money you save to buy a higher end CPU and more RAM and then upgrade to a newer gen GPU later.

Good for 1080p high and even 1440p low-med.

I think a 2080 super, especially with DLSS will get you very far. There's really no reason these cards can't last a while with repasting and gentle care.

It's just a kick in the dick to whoever bought the 2080 at launch.

TechPowerUp actually gives a 5% advantage to the 2080S at 1080p, which widens as you raise the resolution due to its larger memory bus and higher memory bandwidth. The 4060 has DLSS frame gen and a much lower TDP. I'd say it's a toss up for 1080p, maybe tilted in 4060's favor if you can make use of frame gen, but the 2080S clearly wins at higher resolutions.

Yes. The 20 series is amazing. They support both DLSS and FSR.

I have a 12600k and a 2080s I play everything in either 1440 or 4k, depending on the game. First time I saw it truly start chugging was trying to play Alan Wake II, decided to save that game for when I upgrade to a 5xxx series.

2080 super is a massive upgrade over a 960. It's right around 4060 performance which is pretty solid for 1080p gaming. The 4060 new price is kind of a bad value, so for free it's perfect.

Yes. I'm still running a 2080 Super and still doing fine. I moved it from my old PC into a Ryzen 9 5900X build early last year. It does help to manage expectations — you won't get constant 120FPS in 1440P/4K, but at 60FPS it does fine.

Yeah I just picked one up and paired it with my i9 9900k. Works beautifully at 1440. Running all my games at ultra/high with high frames.

2080 Super is still a great card for a good price. But your i7 will bottleneck it. You do need a platform upgrade ASAP.

Yes it's good, it's my go-to best value for money card along with the RX 6600.

A 2080S is absolutely the best I could reasonably suggest for such an old rig and is still a great GPU overall at the right price.

I have had 2080 with 4790k. Games like Battlefield V was stuttering and overall GPU potential was not used. Card itself is good if well priced. It's something between 3060 and 3060ti but with 8GB VRAM so still better than half of the players on the planet have probably.

I've been using one on 1440p for two years now, it's still a great card and I won't be upgrading anytime soon.

I used 2080 super for 5 years, before I updated my system. It is great, I was using for many shooters and MMORPG, now the new owner is enjoying it as well, so for you it is massive improvement, also will have DLSS, which is big improvement for some games, enjoy!

I replaced one a year or so ago. I was running 1440p, medium and mostly high settings and ran most games fine. Things like Jedi Survivor would get 80-90 frames. RDR2 struggled some, but stayed above 60. It's still a pretty good card especially if you are on a 1080p monitor. I sold it to my roommate for cheap and he still uses it today on a 1080p screen.

Had one, a 2080 liquid cooled, 3060ti, 3070... All tested at least briefly in same system. Our top tier 2080 was very similar to, fits just between the 3060ti and 3070. Doubt I would buy one today simply because only used exists, probably find a little newer used 30 series for decent price too.

I think it has terrible value. The 2070 Super is a lot cheaper but only slightly slower.
