Summary

The RTX 3070 Ti is a released mid-to-high-end GPU from Nvidia's Ampere generation that sits in an awkward spot in the lineup. Reddit sentiment is mixed — owners generally report solid 1080p performance and acceptable 1440p results in most titles, but the card's 8GB GDDR6X VRAM is a recurring pain point as modern games push past that threshold. The card draws significantly more power than the standard 3070 for only a modest performance uplift, which many users consider a poor trade-off. That said, users who picked one up at reasonable used prices ($250–$330) tend to be satisfied, especially those upgrading from older cards like the GTX 1070 or RTX 2070 Super. For content creators, the limited VRAM makes it a less compelling choice versus alternatives with more memory.

Pros

  • Strong 1080p performance — owners consistently report 120+ FPS in demanding titles at high settings, and competitive/esports games run effortlessly at max refresh rates
  • Capable 1440p card in most non-VRAM-heavy games, with DLSS Quality mode extending its usefulness in newer releases
  • GDDR6X memory allows effective overclocking — undervolting to 170–190W with no performance loss is well-documented, improving efficiency significantly
  • Good used market value at $250–$330, representing a meaningful upgrade path for anyone still on GTX 1000/1600 series cards
  • Outperforms last-gen 2080 Ti in gaming workloads, making it a high-end card relative to the broader GPU market
  • Solid for 4K narrative games with DLSS Performance mode — users report playable 60+ FPS in titles like RDR2 and Cyberpunk at 4K with DLSS enabled

Cons

  • Only 5–7% faster than the standard RTX 3070 at 1440p/4K, yet draws 22% more power — widely called out as one of the worst performance-per-watt ratios in the Ampere lineup
  • 8GB VRAM is a hard ceiling that causes stuttering and forced settings downgrades in VRAM-hungry titles like Monster Hunter Wilds, Indiana Jones, and Cyberpunk at 1440p+ with RT
  • No support for Frame Generation (exclusive to RTX 40/50 series), limiting its longevity in an era where native performance is increasingly poor
  • At $330 used, competitors like the RX 6800 (12GB, faster in rasterization), RX 7700 XT ($350 new, more VRAM), and RTX 3080 (~$350, 10GB) all offer better value
  • GDDR6X memory runs hot — some AIB models report VRAM temps of 105–108°C under load, requiring custom fan curves or undervolting to manage thermals
  • Founders Edition and some two-fan AIB models have thermal issues due to inadequate cooling for the 290W TDP — three-fan designs strongly recommended

Undervolting Is Almost Mandatory

Reddit owners consistently report that the 3070 Ti becomes a different card after undervolting — dropping to 170–190W with zero performance loss. The stock 290W power target is widely seen as wasteful, and community guides for Afterburner voltage curves are among the most upvoted advice in every 3070 Ti thread.

The Used Market Changes the Calculus

At launch MSRP of $599, the 3070 Ti was almost universally panned as poor value. But at the $250–$330 used prices it commonly hits today, Reddit's verdict shifts considerably — especially for users upgrading from GTX 1070s or RTX 2070s who get a genuine generational jump.

Content Creators Should Look Elsewhere

Multiple threads highlight that for 3D rendering, video editing in DaVinci Resolve, and AI workloads, 8GB VRAM is a serious constraint. Users specifically recommend the RTX 3060 12GB or used RTX 3090 over the 3070 Ti for professional workloads where VRAM capacity matters more than raw shader throughput.

vs 3070: 3% faster @1080; 5% faster @1440p; 7% faster @2160p. 20% more $$, 22% less efficient.

Honestly horrific value, only reason to buy these cards is if they're magically at MSRP and the non-Ti isn't.

The 3070 ti is a high end GPU. They're are cards that are more expensive but I'd call those enthusiast levels. Those cards are like Lamborghini's and the 3070 ti is a like a really nice bmw or Mercedes. One is a super car but the other one is still really nice.

I've had a 1070 for like 6 years now. Not sure exactly how much of a jump it would be, but these 3070 Tis are tempting me…

Given that 'high end' is a made-up concept that lacks a formal definition and any real significance, I don't think it matters. I think it's better to rate a card according to your requirements of it. If you're gaming at 1440p or under, it's as high end as it needs to be, for example.

That's somehow worse than I expected and I wasn't expecting much. Figured the GDDR6X would account for more of an improvement than this. In a normal market, somebody would be stupid to spend $600 on this rather than $700 on the RTX3080. Nobody spending that much to begin with is so hard up to not be able to stretch the budget $100 more.

I feel like all of these reviews are completely pointless. The market is so broken that every store are going to sell out their stock in seconds regardless of all the negative reviews. In the current broken market even this is a steal because base 3070 cards are selling at 3080 ti prices.

Only a handful of people will find this card at MSRP. FE isn't even available everywhere and they are even more limited. For reviewer to even talk about MSRP right now is bullshit.

That power draw is insane. 70w more for 7% performance.

Prices are falling, but as far as I'm aware ~$700 is the current 'good price' for a 3070 ti. Other models are still listed at $800-900

For 1080p high refresh, go for it. For 1440p, the 8gb of VRAM might be a problem

Setting aside the current availability problems, it's not enough of a jump over the standard 3070 and not very competitive against AMD. However, comparing against last gen, it outperforms the 2080ti for like half the price.

It feels like the 6800 and 6800XT are the better options if you don't care about RayTracing or DLSS. The 6800 MSRPs for same or a little less than the 3070ti and out performs it without those two features.

The 3070 Ti is way more disappointing than expected. Almost every other Ti and Super model has performance close to the next level up. This is merely 5-7% better and the first Ti/Super card where the value is worse than BOTH the card above and below it.

at 1080p they're both fine cards, the problem is the 8GB of vram is a problem at the 1440p resolution one would target with them

3070ti is still killing it on 1440 for me, I've only had a handful of newer releases run into a vram issue.

If you get it for a reasonable price, I would say 3070/Ti would be a great 1080p card at high settings (no RT). 1440p it would do well too but would struggle in some games that have high VRAM requirements, but would run well with upscaling. I still use a 3070 and it works great in 99% of games as long as I don't care about getting ultra high fps.

More expensive than the 6800, yet slower AND more power-hungry by a significant margin.

I run a 3070 and have similar performance. I think the vram is over hyped as being necessary, but AAA titles in the future will definitely tax that RAM.

No assuming it's working etc that's a good price. 300$ gets you into barely a 3070/6800 so it's fair price for a ti working bit of a deal even

At that price you're so close to getting a 3080 you should really just do it for the vram alone.

For professional use cases, VRAM matters more than speed. I'm a video editor (Davinci Resolve), and my 3060 12GB can apply more effects and de-noising than my partner with a 3080 10GB. My project files literally don't open on his 3080, because he doesn't have enough VRAM.

I run a standard 3070ti with 1440p 165hz monitor. Most games run at 120-140fps for me so it's not a huge problem right now. Maybe in a couple years it will start to show the downsides but for now 8gb vram is plenty.

3070ti is pretty meh tbh. It's 8gb of vram is limited for high resolution gaming as well as vram hungry productivity applications. And the power it uses just to be a little ahead of a 3060ti is crazy. Might as well go for the 4070 instead. Or a used 3080ti.

I recently upgraded from running a 3070 ti at 1440p. The newer/more graphics intensive games I had to turn settings down to medium/low depending on what frame rate I was targeting but it was still very capable. I never encountered a game I felt like it couldn't run.

The 3070 ti has GDDR6X RAM, so overclock the memory. Undervolt power and overclock the GHz, too. You will eek another 5% out of the card, taking it to 10% over the 3070 and have it sipping around 180-190 Watts. A few games will call for more Vram, especially in the future. But at 1440p you should be fine.

I own a 3070ti Aorus master. At 1440p it performs pretty well UNTIL I run out of vram which happens in most new games. Really irritating

Get to the 4070 if you can. The 3070 ti isn't great. Very power hungry and only has 8 gb of vram.

I run a 3070 ti since its release, I play everything on high 4K with DLSS and it's always around or over 60 fps for narrative games like RDR2 (even playable at 50 fps with Gsync) and over 90 fps on competitive games like call of duty with performance DLSS.

The average sale price is $304 on ebay. $300 is basically the expected price. The 3070ti isn't a great buy. It's the most expensive GPU with 8GB of VRAM, and barely faster than the 3070.

Coming from a 1080, this 3070ti is amazing, my only problem is its coupled with a fricken i7 4790k oc'd to 4.8ghz, even then I know I'm still bottlenecking, but for the most part, especially when I play in 4k I'm getting good framerates. Paying just under MSRP for it was great too.

I was lucky getting a Gigabyte 3070 ti eagle 8G. Performance is stunning compared to my old rx580. The only thing that bothers me a bit is the default noise levels of this card. I saw reviews of it and other cards where they are called near silent but for me with stock fan curve and stock voltage this thing is so loud. I managed to get it near silent by undervolting and custom fan curve.

3070ti still good at 1440p. it's always going to be a combination of components and settings. I've been using my 3070ti on a 1440p monitor at 165 refresh rate

I got it new for 600 bucks on release. Felt amazing to get it at MSRP during a horrid era. However I got a 4090. Why? That damn 3070 ti is always struggling. It never could handle 1440p like I wanted. So it's not a great card for anything other than 1080p now with its limited vram. However it is a decent card and could last 3 more years at 1080 especially if you turn on DLSS.

I'd stay away from 3070 Ti as the gddr6x can be a bitch to cool down and power consumption increases significantly over a regular 3070, for a mere 5% better over the said vanilla variant card. And 330 doesn't seem that of a deal on a 3070 Ti imho.
