Summary

The RTX 4070 Super enjoys overwhelmingly positive sentiment across Reddit, with owners consistently describing it as the sweet spot of the RTX 40 series for 1440p gaming. Most users report smooth performance at max or ultra settings in demanding titles like Cyberpunk 2077 and Helldivers 2, with DLSS and frame generation pushing framerates well beyond what the raw raster numbers suggest. The card draws notably low power for its performance class, often staying cool and quiet even in compact cooler configurations. Community consensus positions it as the best value card of its generation — not because it's cheap, but because competing options either cost significantly more or offer meaningfully less. The one consistent gripe is the 12GB VRAM buffer, which some users flag as a future-proofing concern for 4K workloads and texture-heavy UE5 games.

Pros

  • Dominates 1440p gaming at max settings — users report 130–200+ FPS in competitive titles and 70–80 FPS with full ray tracing and DLSS Quality in Cyberpunk 2077
  • Exceptional power efficiency for its performance tier, frequently running under 200W and hitting temperatures in the mid-60s°C even with modest cooling
  • DLSS 3 with frame generation dramatically extends effective performance — users coming from Pascal and Turing cards report frame rates more than doubling
  • Compact Founders Edition design makes it viable for SFF and small-case builds without sacrificing thermals
  • Strong performance in creative and 3D workloads — Blender and Unreal Engine users report it handling real-world rendering tasks comfortably for its price
  • Highly competitive against AMD alternatives: roughly 8% faster than the RX 7800 XT in rasterization with 15–40% better ray tracing performance and lower power draw

Cons

  • 12GB VRAM is the most cited limitation — already showing stress in UE5 titles like Stalker 2, and users targeting 4K with heavy ray tracing report needing to dial back settings
  • Struggles with unoptimized UE5 games across the board — even the 4090 can't maintain consistent framerates in titles like Stalker 2, so the 4070 Super hits a wall faster
  • Now discontinued and increasingly hard to find at MSRP ($599), with used and remaining stock prices climbing well above original retail in some regions
  • The RTX 5070 is available at similar or slightly higher MSRP with multi-frame generation (4x vs 2x), GDDR7, and better long-term driver support — making the 4070 Super a harder recommendation at current street prices
  • AIB markups vary significantly by region — EU and Australia users frequently report paying 20–40% above US MSRP, which significantly changes the value equation
  • Not a 4K card without DLSS assistance — native 4K performance is noticeably behind the 4070 Ti Super, and 4K path tracing requires heavy upscaling compromises

Still Worth It at $529?

With the RTX 5070 now available at MSRP in most markets for only $20–50 more, Reddit threads are split: the 4070 Super remains a capable card, but the value calculus has shifted. Owners who bought at $599 launch price feel vindicated; buyers considering it today are told to hold out for the 5070 unless the discount is significant.

The Card Nvidia Should Have Launched First

A recurring sentiment across multiple hardware subreddits: the 4070 Super is what the base RTX 4070 should have been at launch. It matches 3080 Ti performance, draws 40–50% less power, and costs half the 3080 Ti's original MSRP. Early adopters of the vanilla 4070 don't feel burned — but they do feel like they saw the writing on the wall.

Creators and Blender Users Are Quietly Buying Two

While most Reddit discussion focuses on gaming, a smaller but vocal crowd of 3D artists and Unreal Engine creators are using the 4070 Super as a workhorse rendering card. At least one user mentioned planning to buy a second one to double rendering throughput — noting that 12GB is manageable with proper VRAM discipline, even on professional projects.

So, it's basically a smidge faster than the 3080Ti across all resolutions, costs half as much (as far as MSRP is concerned), has the same vRAM buffer, and also draws ~40-50% less power. That's a winner, at least in my book.

The performance is similar to the 3080ti in many games.

I have no complaints. Card has surprised the hell out of me with how well it runs 99% of games. Really only UE5 titles make it seem weaker than needed.

Surprisingly good card. Wonder what AMD's response will be. The 7600XT is hardly an answer. If they don't drop the 7800XT to $450 and the 7700XT to $370 I can't see them competing.

Anyone who bought a 4070 doesn't really give a shit about this card since it just validates our original opinion that the original lineup of 40 series cards were intentionally held back to milk consumers for more money. It's great that we finally get a 40 series card worth buying, sucks that Nvidia had to ripoff consumers first.

They stopped producing the 4000 cards to create scarcity for new buyers to pivot to 5000 series which cost more. If you can find one at or under MSRP go for it, if not try your luck with the 5000 series.

I just built my new system about 2 months ago and I absolutely love my 4070S. Do I wish I had a 4090? Of course. Was I going to spend 4090 money on a gpu? Absolutely not. Definitely do not regret buying it whatsoever.

4070S is ~8% faster than the 7800XT in the aggregate benchmark. 15-40% faster in RT. Draws 15-20% less power. 7800XT has less rich software/feature set. Definitely needs to be priced accordingly.

I just got one myself. The price-to-performance ratio is pretty insane. It blasts through every game I throw at it on 1440p, even with all Ultra settings, even with ray-tracing and path-tracing. It's a beast, for sure.

Yes! I upgraded from a 3060 Ti and the performance gains have been huge for 1440p. I can run Cyberpunk on Ultra settings with ray tracing, path tracing, DLSS Quality and frame gen on, and get well over 60 FPS.

I have the 4070S, I love it. Max setting on 1440p no problem. I'm getting around 70-80 FPS on 4k in Helldivers with Ultra settings.

4070S at msrp is probably the best value of all the 40 series cards. It's reasonably strong, very power efficient, and doesn't require a monster cooler or psu. While $600 is higher than I like, it's not wildly high compared to the old mid-range when considering inflation.

Dude I've got a regular 4070 and I have zero desire to upgrade. I am not left wanting. 2-3 years at least.

5070 is readily available new at MSRP in most parts of the world. Roughly same performance at stock as 4070 super but the 5070 has a much higher ceiling after overclocking thanks to DDR7 and Blackwell arch. Plus you get MFG and better warranty.

Upgrades from a 1080ti and I couldn't be happier. Best sub 1k card that's for sure. Can play most titles on epic, rocking a 1440p ultra wide.

I genuinely love my Founders Nvidia 4070 Super. I run Delta Force and COD in 4k and get like 140-155 fps. 200s for 1440p. Absolutely incredible for $600.

I switched to 4070S from rx 7800xt. I'm more happy with this than with that card. AMD had problems with video playback globally and every driver version was hit or miss. 4070S I observed some bugs in some versions but very very very minor.

For $100 or so more you can get 4070 ti super. 16 gb VRAM. My son has the 4070 ti super and he loves it.

Going from a 1060 to a 4070S feels like I own a supercomputer now. 80+ FPS in Cyberpunk on 1440p Path Tracing max settings (that's with Framegen obviously).

The 4070 is very capable at 1440p, quiet, and draws very little power, bonus if undervolted. I never ran into any VRAM issues.

I chose to upgrade my 1070 to a 4070 super after about 3-4 years of just waiting and waiting for a worthy card. I have access to 4090s and 3090s at work and I was super pleased when I got my 4070 super: a small card, that barely uses any energy. The performance is just perfect for what it is.

If you don't care about Ray Tracing and are concerned about VRAM why wouldn't you buy a 7900 GRE or 7800 XT for just under $500? The 7900XT is $680, 20% faster, and has nearly double the VRAM.

Absolutely happy with mine gaming at 1440p on a 27" 240hz monitor. But if you're considering getting one now personally I'd wait to see what the 5070 will offer.

I love my 4070 Super but just do know if you get it the 12 gigs of vram can limit if your monitor is 4k. I do not regret paying it on launch for $600 though, it's perfect in any game I throw at it.

The Ti Super is a proper tier above with it being a 4080 derivative and having 16GB VRAM. But, something brand new and 2-years of warranty brings value too. I've played with that card and it handles stuff well.

My 4070 Super has been doing 75-80 FPS for 1440p gaming in Cyberpunk 2077 with DLSS resolution, no DLSS frame generation, ray tracing on, path tracing on, and everything turned up to ultra and psycho settings when available. It is perfect for 1440p gaming.

I built a 4070S FE with a Ryzen 7 7800X3D and it's fucking insane. Hell Divers 2 is butter smooth at 1440 ultra settings. The 4070S is the gamer's GPU.

I think it's the best GPU all-around in this gen, every other has been a letdown one way or another, except the 4090 which is out of price range for most people though.

I play everything 4K on my 4070 Super on my Sony A95L 55" 4K OLED TV. Yet to run into any problems regarding performance, the new DLSS Transformer model is fantastic, DLSS Performance looks like 3.5 Quality. All this talk of VRAM and needing 5080s/5090s is overblown.

The 4070 Super is a banger of a card. Absolutely worth it. DLSS4 is back compatible with all RTX cards. The only thing you don't get is multi frame gen (3x and 4x). You just get 2x frame gen.

I have a 4070 Super and it plays any game at 1440p max settings with high FPS. It's definitely a solid card. But if you can get a 5070 at MSRP I'd go that way.
