Summary

The Corsair K100 RGB is Corsair's flagship full-size gaming keyboard, offering a premium feature set that includes six programmable G-keys, a multi-function iCUE control dial, and a choice between Cherry MX Speed or Corsair OPX optical-mechanical switches. Reddit sentiment is genuinely split: long-term owners often call it the best keyboard they've ever owned, while a notable group has experienced persistent firmware issues — particularly random disconnects and dying LEDs — that tarnish the experience at its high price point. The keyboard excels for power users who want deep macro customization and iCUE ecosystem integration, but non-gamers and those prioritizing silence or build reliability may come away disappointed. At full MSRP it's a tough sell; at sale prices around $169–$200, the community is considerably more forgiving.

Pros

  • Six programmable G-keys with deep iCUE or Elgato Stream Deck integration — users have automated full work-from-home routines (VPN connect, app launch, chat messages) from a single keypress
  • Multi-function iCUE control dial is genuinely useful for media control and app-specific inputs, especially in creative workflows
  • OPX optical-mechanical switches offer extremely fast actuation and a smooth linear feel that many users describe as a noticeable upgrade from Cherry MX reds
  • Rock-solid aluminum build; multiple users report daily-driving the board for 3–5+ years with no structural issues
  • RGB lighting is vibrant and highly customizable through iCUE, with hardware memory profiles allowing you to uninstall iCUE after setup
  • Great value at sale prices ($130–$200); Reddit consensus is that the K100 is a strong buy at a discount even if the MSRP is hard to justify

Cons

  • Persistent firmware-related random disconnect bug — Corsair acknowledged the issue as firmware-related, and some users went through 4+ RMA replacements without a permanent fix
  • LED failures are a documented long-term problem: individual keys getting stuck on green or losing light entirely, sometimes within the first year of ownership
  • Non-removable braided cable is a recurring frustration — no USB-C option and no clean cable management solution without routing workarounds
  • Only available with speed switches (OPX or Cherry MX Speed), which are polarizing — users wanting tactile or silent options have to look elsewhere entirely
  • Volume/scroll wheel degrades over time; multiple users report erratic behavior after the warranty expires, with the wheel jumping unpredictably
  • iCUE software remains a pain point — frequent crashes, compatibility conflicts with other RGB software, and macro recording issues that Corsair support has acknowledged without resolution

The Firmware Bug That Corsair Couldn't Quietly Fix

A firmware update meant to fix phantom typing instead introduced random USB disconnects — and Corsair's own support confirmed they were aware of it. Some users sat with the issue for six months or more while going through multiple RMA units that had the exact same problem.

Is the K100 Worth It Without a Sale?

At $250–$300 MSRP, Reddit is mostly skeptical. At $130–$200 on sale, the same community calls it a steal. The feature set — G-keys, iCUE dial, optical switches — doesn't change, but the value calculation shifts dramatically depending on what you pay.

Power Users Are Modding This Keyboard to Actually Like It

From lubing the OPX switches to foam modding the case to reduce aluminum pinging, a surprisingly active K100 modding community exists. Users swapping springs to 65g, adding desk mats, and tape modding stabs report dramatically improved sound and feel — suggesting the out-of-box experience leaves room to grow.

My favorite keyboard. Usually $200-$300+. If you need a flat/low profile keyboard this is the best imo.

If it wasn't for iCUE crapping itself I'd say the K100 is the best. I used to have the K60 RGB pro but every 4-6 months I'd have to replace it as a key stem would snap. After about 5 replacements I swapped to the K100 and it's been the best for the last few years, no issues.

It's a good keyboard but at $169 it's a great deal. Since then I've been researching mods and last weekend I lubed all of the switches; springs, stems and housings.

It's treated me well! I think for the price point it is starting to show its age in some ways: hot swappable switches should be standard at this price. I would also like to see replaceable cables. That said it's been a good keyboard and I'm still happy with mine.

The K100's OPX switch noise isn't that loud on its own, but the aluminum top plate causes a ringing sound when typing. Using a desk mat can reduce it a bit, but it doesn't completely disappear.

I had to stop using my K95 Platinum because it started freezing randomly after the warranty period expired. This has been an issue for a long time and is why I don't buy Corsair peripherals anymore.

The G815/915 I own, it's a good keyboard but long term the keycaps wear out and don't look good and the macro support is very poor compared to the Corsair. I'm using the K100 Air, it's more suited towards me because I love low profile laptop style boards and the macro support is great.

You can lube the switches — the difference is huge. I also did a foam mod to reduce the hollow sound. It doesn't require desoldering or even opening the board permanently. The switch opens easy with a small screwdriver.

Its uses the cherry mx speed switches. Got that version too. Great for gaming but can be ultra sensitive for typing sometimes because you don't need to push it all the way, only a little tap is enough.

It's almost the perfect keyboard. Corsair really needs to come out with the exact same keyboard but with a detachable Type C cable, while keeping the passthrough too.

I just returned that keyboard for a Keychron HE, the Keychron feels like butter typing compared to the Corsair, although it did look amazing.

I'm going for my 4th replacement now. 1st replacement had the volume wheel going crazy, impossible to adjust volume anymore. 2nd replacement they sent me a refurb one with an RGB led that won't display every color.

Unfortunately I'm also experiencing all the same issues. I love the keyboard, it has all the features I want, but the disconnects are frustrating.

The disconnection stopped for me once I removed api from wallpaper engine, but my 'H' RGB is stuck in green in all my profiles. I love the keyboard, don't want to buy a new one just because of one key. Feels bad man.

I have been using 5 Logitech keyboards in the past 10 years, all of them broke just months after 2 years. Now I'm using K100 as well, just that my issue is that it's very sensitive and can easily be triggered, so I modified some of the switches with 65gr springs.

The 6 G-Keys can be programmed with the Elgato Streamdeck software. You can do amazing things with that — I set up a 'homeoffice' key that switches Corsair to my work profile, dials into VPN, opens the remote connection and logs me in, opens phone software and Reddit in Chrome, and types 'Good morning' in the team chat.

I returned mine, couldn't find use for the G keys and the wheel at the top had zero utility for me. I ended up with the new K70 Max and am happy.

You can set up the lighting profile you want and save it to the device memory, then uninstall Corsair. That's the one thing I like about their RGB implementation — you don't need to keep iCUE running after setup.

I ended up having to tape mod the stabs on that thing. It's an alright keyboard, wouldn't daily driver it.

I opened it. Updated things based on instructions I found online, still disconnected, was going to troubleshoot more and said 'wait. I shouldn't have to troubleshoot a 200 dollar keyboard'. Boxed it up and returned it.

My son's keyboard, another K100, had the volume wheel completely stopped working and he has 1 key LED stuck in green as well and the selection wheel is also broken. Two brand new K100s purchased 10 months ago.

My fav keyboard I've had also! Typing is almost silent and responds very fast. I did have 1 issue — it started typing random characters, but a hard reset fixed it.

Do not get this keyboard. Had it for awhile and the macro keys have never worked properly. And for $300 everything better work properly every time.

It's got some pros and cons but one major flaw: only available with speed switches which are god awful. Waiting for the refresh that has programmable actuation point switches like on the new K70s.

Mine's been great other than the volume rocker being wonky. After the warranty expired when you raise or lower the volume it goes all over the place.

I love the OPX switches alongside the dedicated iCUE dial which can be used to do all the stuff that requires multiple keys. A big shout out to the 8000hz hyper polling rate, this keyboard is crazy fast.

I'm quite happy with mine except for the fact I still don't dare upgrading to the latest firmware, as it's not clear to me if they solved the USB connection/disconnection issue.

Agreed. It's a big disappointment. I can't believe how noisy it is! When you spend GBP275 on a keyboard you expect better. It's going back. What happened to keyboards aimed at adults, these 'gaming' keyboards are all style over substance.

The K100 for me I would say is, okay. I sort of wish the jog wheel was an LCD screen though. Typing Experience: 7/10. Performance: 10/10.

I had my K100 for more than 2 years now. It had some issues with lightning, which CS willingly out of warranty changed for me through RMA. I never had issues with the rest.

I don't know who in their right mind would pay $330 for this, but at $130 it's an outstanding value. I love this keyboard — favorite feel of any keyboard I've used, great build quality, excellent battery life, and an all around top performer.

I generally like it, but I'm constantly getting funky stuff happening like certain keys not working or repeated uninitialized button clicks. Unplugging the receiver and replugging fixes it, but it's annoying. And I find iCUE bad in general.

It's a good keyboard. My only gripe is the volume wheel isn't the most reliable, but other than that it's great.

I loved this keyboard when I first got it. By far my favorite and I've got many keyboards. The backlighting coming through just the letters is perfect. This stopped being my favorite when the spacebar quit working when my left thumb would tap on the left side of the bar, causing me to miss many jumps.

Got K100 OPX too and the pinging is nuts. Even with two towels underneath. It blows my mind how they sell $300-$500 keyboards but a $3 foam inside is not common sense somehow. And who thought an aluminum body is a good idea?
