Summary

The Lofree Flow 2 is a premium low-profile mechanical keyboard that has generated strong and divided opinions on Reddit. Its typing experience — featuring gasket mount, self-lubricating Kailh switches, and full aluminum construction — earns consistent praise from owners, with many calling it the best feel in the low-profile segment. However, the polarizing right-side panel housing the touch bar and USB-C port has become the defining controversy of this keyboard: a large portion of the community sees it as a deal-breaker that defeats the purpose of a compact layout by pushing the mouse further right. Those who've bought it tend to enjoy the actual typing experience, but the design misstep has driven many potential buyers to alternatives like the NuPhy Air75 V3 or IQunix MQ80.

Pros

  • Typing feel is consistently praised as best-in-class for low-profile mechanical keyboards — the self-lubricating Kailh POM switches (especially Void silent and Pulse tactile variants) deliver a smooth, springy, and satisfying experience that outclasses the Flow 1
  • Full aluminum body with gasket mount and sound-absorbing foam gives a premium weight and thock that's unusual at this price tier
  • Triple connectivity (USB-C wired, Bluetooth x3, 2.4 GHz dongle) is a major upgrade over the Flow 1, which lacked 2.4 GHz — a deal-breaker for many previous owners
  • QMK/VIA support added for the first time in the Flow line, enabling full key remapping that enthusiasts had been requesting since the original
  • Shine-through keycaps with transparent switch housings produce noticeably better backlighting quality compared to the Flow 1
  • Adjustable-angle feet and solid build quality make it feel like a step up in construction over every previous Lofree model

Cons

  • The asymmetric right-side panel with the touch bar adds ~1–1.5 inches of wasted desk space, undermining the core appeal of a compact layout — the majority of initial reactions on Reddit were negative, with many calling it a deal-breaker
  • Side-mounted USB-C charging port sticks out into mouse territory when plugged in, compounding the space issue and drawing comparisons to Apple's infamous upside-down Magic Mouse charging design
  • Backlight power saving cannot be disabled in wireless mode — it shuts off after 30–60 seconds and the board eventually sleeps, causing it to eat the first keypress on wake-up, a recurring complaint across multiple threads
  • QC consistency issues reported by some users, including one owner who returned 3 units for the same stuck key caused by PCB clearance problems near the gasket-mounted switch
  • No ISO layout support (no German, Nordic, or other regional layouts) — a repeated complaint that pushed multiple buyers toward the NuPhy Air75 V3
  • Touch bar is too sensitive and difficult to reprogram, and cannot be used until the keyboard wakes from sleep — negating much of its convenience as a quick-access volume control

The Right-Side Panel Killed the Hype

Before the Flow 2 was revealed, anticipation was sky-high. The moment that asymmetric right chin appeared, hundreds of Reddit comments turned to disappointment. Many said the Flow 1 had better design DNA, and the extra space makes the 84-key version nearly as wide as a TKL.

Once You Own It, You Mostly Love It

The gap between pre-purchase skepticism and post-purchase satisfaction is stark. Owners across multiple review threads consistently rate the typing feel as exceptional — the Void silent switches in particular are described as eerily quiet with great tactile feedback. The panel controversy tends to shrink once people are actually using it.

Lofree's Kickstarter Reputation Is Taking Hits

Multiple backers noted that Lofree sold the Flow Lite on Chinese retail platforms cheaper and faster than Kickstarter backer shipments arrived. This pattern combined with slow responses to user feedback has eroded goodwill, and several long-time fans say they won't back another Lofree campaign.

That weird extended side looks weird. Why a touchbar? 65% layout is an absolute win for me though. But yeah, the side section makes this a no-buy for me.

Not a fan of the lack of symmetry. Would have preferred no indicator light or any other location. Will be sticking with my Flow 1.

First impression - disappointment. Downgrade in design relative to the first version due to the lack of symmetry. And this is apparently due to the new touchbar on the right. Lofree, I use the keyboard, I like to press the keys. Why would I want a touchbar on my keyboard?? Apple already stepped on that and removed it from their keyboards, don't make the same mistakes.

Yeah, no. I like it a lot, but the aesthetic just kills it for me. Why the extra empty area on the right, as opposed to somewhere else? Not only is it just generally an eye sore, but it eats up space where you'd use your mouse. The cable also connects there, so whenever that's plugged in it'll stick out into your mousing space even more.

So much desk real estate lost for a volume up/down touchbar? What a ridiculous design decision.

I'm currently in the market for a low profile keyboard and the Nuphy Air75 V3 is winning. As the others have said, the lack of symmetry is a downgrade in design and it looks ugly to me.

horrible...why should I buy a 75% keyboard with the size of a tkl...

wasn't the point of 84 and 100 key to reduce horizontal length? why would you do this?

It's annoying because it looks like they got everything else right. I like the new switch design, adjustable typing angle, the keycaps look good, it has VIA... pretty much everything I would've wanted. Can't deal with that extra sidebar.

So close to being perfect…yet so ugly, unfortunately. If the flow and flow lite merged that would be my ideal board and would be an instant buy.

I predict Lofree will pivot back to their more standard design for their next iteration of boards. They're not going to sell a ton of these due to that newly added right panel. I could be wrong, but it's a weird design choice.

I've had the lofree flow and flow lite. Now I have the flow 2. I love the touch bar. I listen to music a lot on my computer so quick access to raise the volume and lower it is great.

Every time they come out with a new flow, it's like they're getting colder and colder. It hurts to watch. Typing this on my Flow and grateful I have it.

There is something about lofree keyboards that make them feel and sound really good… not sure what it is but I do enjoy typing on my Lofree Flow and Lofree Flow Lite more than my Nuphy Air 75 V3. IMO the Flow lite with 2 layers of blue tape mod is my favorite keyboard right now.

All they had to do was make an aluminum version of the Lite, that's it.

Sorry for the nitpicking, but the extra space the keyboard takes up on the right is shameful. From an ergonomic point of view, this space is sacred. We want the mouse in a natural position relative to the center of our body, and pushing the mouse to the right harms this.

I love the Flow but the Flow 2 wasted space on the far right just isn't for me. I also wanted the 2.4 ghz connection so I ended up with the IQunix MQ80 - which has a similar style to the Flow.

It's just a failure, they increased the size of the side where most people place the mouse, it's so illogical and inconvenient.

So far I'm very satisfied with the Flow 2 with Silent Void switches. I've never experienced this kind of feedback combined with quietness on a low profile board before. That said, I'm not a fan of how they handled their recent Kickstarter, and I don't think I'd go for Lofree again anytime soon.

I'll never understand why shine-through keycaps with legends that aren't easily distinct/visible when backlighting is turned OFF are still being used on new keyboards. If you learn typing without looking at the keys then you probably don't need the backlighting, and if you do need it, you're stuck with always having it on.

I'll never crowd fund with Lofree again. Not because they didn't deliver a great product in the end, but because when I backed their Lofree Flow Lite, they sold it on Chinese online shops for cheaper or around the same price as early bird pricing AND you'd get it sooner than if you backed it. So there was literally no reason to back it. Felt like a slap in the face to early supporters.

The gasket mount, sound-absorbing foam, and self-lubricating Kailh POM switches creates a typing experience that is unmatched in the low-profile market. The sound is extremely smooth and the full aluminum body gives it that premium weight feel. Performance has been flawless and the addition of QMK/VIA support is a massive pro.

The fact that there is a charging port on the side, making the keyboard even wider when charging, makes me think it was designed by Apple.

The typing feel is excellent but it's a fatal flaw that you cannot adjust the backlighting power saving timeout, enough that I quit using it at night.

I got the 84 keys version. No connectivity issues. It's very straightforward to pair via bluetooth and also via 2.4GHz USB. I did not notice any lags as of yet.

Zero issues with the flow 2 84. The keys feel solid at rest but are a joy to type with, a noticeable improvement over the flow 100.

I have the tactile switches and mine is a bit pingy that I need to find a fix for. But other than that it's a super satisfying board to type on. The dual wireless functionality is pretty nice too.

I purchased both the Nuphy Air75 v3 and Lofree Flow 2 (68 key) for me they are both neck and neck. Like many have mentioned, the 'chin' isn't as annoying as folks make it out to be unless you have a tiny little desk. The Lofree Flow typing experience really is great, especially on the silent switches. Battery life is fine too.

It would've been so much better if they had placed the additional space on the left side of the keyboard instead. In that way, it wouldn't be annoying to have to let go of your mouse to adjust the volume or get to the bar.

The chunk on the right will make me crazy. It's in my mouse zone.

I agree on all these points. The typing feel is excellent but it's a fatal flaw that you cannot adjust the backlighting power saving timeout, enough that I quit using it at night. I prefer heavy with full keys and I've been happy with my Keychron K2 HE and Q1 HE.

I honestly thought this new Flow 2 would feel similar but the new Surfer switches and the shine through keycaps make the typing experience a lot more hollow and clackier compared to the Flow84 with Kailh Ghost switches.

Exactly a year ago I got the Flow84 and wow the combo of switch and keycaps on the black version are spectacular. I instantly understood the obsession keyboard people have with picking their switches and lubing and customising.

It's honestly hot garbage. I was willing to overlook the thicker design, blocky keys, poorly designed raiser and inconvenient placement of switches, but I had to return 3 units for the same exact issue. The number 7 key on every unit sticks — I took the key cap and switch off and noticed they didn't leave enough space between the controller on the PCB and the gasket mounted switch, causing the plate to flex slightly and the key to get stuck down when pressed. Poor engineering, I would not recommend this.

Have both the Flow 100 and Flow 2 100. Found the side bar about as useful as every other keyboard with a knob. Switches are better on the Flow 2 but the Flow 2 caps on the Flow 100 is sublime.

Pretty spot on review. I am facing the same issue with VIA software. I work as a software engineer so I wanted to make the FN keys default. I haven't been successful. It just doesn't give me the mapping options when I plug it in on Chrome browser on the browser app.

They had the feedback to make the perfect keyboard coming from the original Flow, but they don't care about feedback so this is what happened instead.

Innovation gone wrong with this one. Pass. I rather buy another OG Flow to keep the company afloat enough to reflect on their creative decisions.

As much as I agree with a lot of what you're saying (the cons) I don't think in reality they're as much of a big deal as it seems when they're written out. Mine got delivered at the weekend and I'm loving it. That being said, I've disabled the volume bar as I kept accidentally catching it.

Just don't expect any kind of support when it goes wrong. With Lofree, you are basically renting a keyboard for 1 year. If you are happy with that then Lofree is fine.
