Summary

The Logitech Combo Touch is a keyboard case for iPad that consistently wins praise for its versatility — a detachable keyboard, full-case protection, adjustable kickstand, function row, and Smart Connector are features users genuinely love. The Reddit consensus, however, is split: long-term owners frequently report that the rubber trim around speaker cutouts and port openings warps, bubbles, and separates within 6–18 months, turning a premium purchase into an embarrassing mess. Logitech's warranty support earns goodwill, but the fact that replacements develop the same issue undermines confidence. It outperforms the Apple Magic Keyboard on versatility and protection but loses on typing feel, lap stability, and long-term durability. Best suited for users who switch frequently between laptop and tablet mode and prioritize case protection over typing experience.

Pros

  • Detachable keyboard lets you use the iPad in full tablet mode while still protected — a key advantage over the Magic Keyboard, which leaves the iPad bare when removed.
  • Adjustable kickstand supports multiple viewing angles, making it genuinely useful for watching content, Pencil use, and desk work in ways a fixed hinge case can't match.
  • Function row with media controls, brightness, and volume keys is a feature Apple's Magic Keyboard omits entirely, and frequent users cite it as a real productivity win.
  • Smart Connector means no Bluetooth pairing or charging required — the keyboard just works when snapped in.
  • Fabric exterior holds up better than Apple's silicone Magic Keyboard coating, which many users report peeling and fraying despite careful use.
  • Logitech warranty support frequently replaces defective units even outside the warranty period, which softens the blow of the known durability issues.

Cons

  • Rubber trim around speaker cutouts and USB-C port reliably warps and separates within 6–18 months of use — this is a documented, recurring defect across multiple generations of the case.
  • Kickstand-based design makes lap use awkward; the keyboard-to-kickstand footprint is significantly wider than a laptop or the Magic Keyboard's cantilevered design.
  • Trackpad lacks palm rejection: multiple users report the cursor jumping while typing, requiring constant correction — Logitech confirmed there is no software workaround.
  • The case adds significant weight; with the keyboard attached to the 13" iPad Pro, total weight exceeds 1.27 kg, negating much of the M4's slimmer, lighter design.
  • Keyboard feel divides users — those who've typed on a MacBook or Magic Keyboard often find it unsatisfying, with flat keycaps that offer little tactile guidance for larger hands.
  • Replacement units develop the same rubber-separation defect, suggesting the issue is a design flaw rather than a manufacturing fluke — at least one user went through three cases in four years.

The Rubber Always Goes Eventually

Across dozens of threads, the pattern is consistent: the Combo Touch looks and feels premium for months, then the rubber trim around speakers and ports starts lifting, bubbling, and separating. Hot climates accelerate it, but even careful users in mild climates see it by year two. Logitech knows about it — replacement units have the same problem.

The Best iPad Case That Isn't a Laptop

Users who treat the Combo Touch as a versatile iPad accessory — flipping between tablet, tent, and typing modes — tend to love it. Users who want a tight laptop replacement for lap work quickly discover the kickstand footprint is massive and the palm rejection is unreliable. It's a great tablet case with a keyboard, not a great laptop substitute.

Apple Pencil Users Quietly Prefer It Over the Magic Keyboard

Users who split their time between handwriting and typing consistently land on the Combo Touch. The kickstand lets the iPad sit at a comfortable drawing angle with the keyboard flipped behind the case, while the Magic Keyboard makes Pencil use in portrait mode impractical. It's not a selling point Logitech leads with, but it comes up repeatedly.

Mine has the same problem. Its a very nice case and keyboard, but this issue is the dealbreaker for future purchase.

Try contacting Logitech support. My first Combo Touch years ago had the same issue yours did and support ended up replacing mine. Hasnt had the issue since.

Its a very common issue, and its actually the reason I bought a refurbished Magic Keyboard instead. There are a lot of threads on several forums about it.

Counterpoint: Ive had one of these on my iPad for 10 months with no issues. Sounds like a you thing. What did you do to it?

Worst quality case and also most expensive case Ive ever bought. Not a good combo. Wont be buying any Logitech cases again personally. Ive been going with the Apple folio and ESR keyboard case instead.

My previous combo touch held up really well over time. In contrast I have a friend who got it and it fell apart. This year they used a new soft touch material on the combo touch that I dont think will last as well as the previous.

I found the Logitech keyboard way more satisfying to use over the Magic Keyboard. The keys, media row, and trackpad make the keyboard itself far superior. Also the Combo Touch actually has protection for the iPad and you can completely detach the keyboard itself, making it vastly more useful. Drawing or note taking with a pencil connected to a MK would be difficult and uncomfortable.

Logitech makes excellent products. While expensive as well, theyre not as expensive as Apples.

I also had it replaced and it developed the same issue the second time too and I ended getting a magic keyboard as well. Liked the design though this is a design defect on Logitechs part.

I got problems with the sides around the speakers, I think its called bubbling. Im on my third case in 3 years but Logitech replaced them free of charge even after the warranty was over.

I decided on the Logitech over MK for case protection and ability for kickstand without the keyboard attached. I have had no problems.

Weight and thickness wise, the Combo Touch and Magic Keyboard both feel and look the same. I feel like Logitech has done a really good job in matching the Magic Keyboard in that area. When detaching the keyboard from the Logitech, the iPad is still in a protective case with kickstand, so it is going to feel heavier than the bare iPad. However Im okay with that trade off since it is still protected.

If youre comparing typing on the Magic Keyboard vs the Combo Touch, the MK is definitely the better typing experience hands down. But if youre comparing versatility and protection, CT wins.

I have had combo touch for nearly two years now. The first aesthetic problems arose after maybe 3-4 months - the rubber covering speakers started lifting. Now it looks literally chewed up - all sides are separating. At first it bothered me but like all aesthetics in things that are primarily functional, I realized it doesnt even matter. I think it is still a great case for the price overall.

Ive been using the combo touch for one and a half years now and it still looks and feels brand new. I just bought a 12.9 inch ipad and bought the combo touch again, because Im very satisfied with it. And on the 12.9 the combo touch is even better, because you can turn the keyboard and clip it onto the back if not in use. So yeah, 5/7, would recommend.

I have the CT on an 11 inch M1 Pro. Used it for about a year now. I mainly use the iPad for writing during lecture. My use is 90% handwriting without keyboard and 10% with keyboard. The protection of the CT is a priority for me.

Long term experience is really disappointing. The case just falls apart, the material quality is really bad. After 1 year the rubber at the speaker cutout area started bending and eventually fell off and looks horrible. Now after 3 years the whole case just fell apart. The keyboard works perfectly fine but the case material is horrible. Wouldnt recommend at all.

Mine broke 2 times in 6 months so I just switched to the Magic Keyboard which is so much better.

I bought one and two years of constant use later the rubber around the cutouts began to stretch out and get floppy. I loved it, but sadly the case started to fail to connect to the iPad making the keyboard useless. I bought an Apple Magic case instead. I would not say it is that much better than the Logitech though.

The only issue Ive seen with the Logitech is the bubbling or stretching of the case that the iPad is in. Happened to both combo touches that I got my parents for the 9th gen iPad. The rubber stretches near the charging port and no longer sits flush with the case. It still works, its just a cosmetic annoyance.

Logitech beat Apple on this one. I dont know why Apple refuses to have the top row function keys, but thats the biggest deal breaker for me. I cant have the keyboard and trackpad and not have the function keys for volume, brightness, etc. Also the versatility in all the different positions. I would have happily paid the extra money for a MK if it was better, but its just not as good as the Logitech in my opinion.

Keyboard and trackpad works functionally but designed poorly ergonomically. The trackpad is too big and too sensitive and when typing it always accidentally triggers the trackpad and clicks on the screen and your typing cursor will be moved and your whole writing just gets messed up. There is no software getaround after confirming with Logitech themselves so I have returned the Combo Touch.

Kind of regret mine over Magic Keyboard. Not too lappable. MK is a bit more flexible in that regard. But you sacrifice protection when going back into tablet mode.

I contacted them about this. They say it is because the iPad warms up, and suggested taking it out of the case when its hot! Pretty crazy answer, but yeah, thats their recommendation.

I went with the combo touch this time around. I use my iPad without a keyboard probably 70-75% of the time, and I feel like Logitech offers a better bumper case than Apples folios. Plus, I never have to swap cases. Combo touchs keyboard is nice, not quite as good as MK, but still enjoyable, and the kickstand is way better than a folded up folio. Im really happy with the decision so far.

I have had both, and also the Smart Folio. The new design feels cheap, and its heavy as hell. Even with the keyboard detached, the weight added by the case to the iPad itself completely neutralized the fact that the 13 inch is now slimmer and lighter. It made hand holding the iPad and watching in bed a pain.

I have the Magic Keyboard for my 12.9 inch M1 Pro. What I dont like is the absolute garbage materials Apple made it with, especially given the ridiculously high price tag. Most of the edges and corners have the rubber plastic coating starting to peel and separate. So much so that I bought a vinyl skin kit to keep it from deteriorating further.

Your case is on stage 1 of this case cancer. Mine is on stage 4. Its amazing that Logitech didnt learn and fix this from the iPad M1 era. Mine was purchased when the M1 Pro launched, did well for the first year and started to spoil in year two.

I had the case for the M1 iPad Pro, and boy it did not hold up well. The vents for the speakers around the year mark started to bend. My other complaint was that some time after that, the keyboard started to not be recognized by the iPad. It began with a simple lag and got to the point where I needed to physically reconnect the keyboard to get it connected.

My wife and I both have had Logitech combo touch for over a year and a half on our 12.9s with no issues at all. They look brand new. I use mine pretty heavily every day for typing and its held up beautifully. Im so confident with the build construction at this point that if something went wrong with it, Id buy another without hesitation.

I have had my Logitech Combo Touch for over 2 years now and still love it. It is standing up well to a lot of use. Has fully protected my iPad Pro from three drops now without a mark or malfunction on the LCT.

10 months is not long enough at all to have a full fledged review of this. The first year or so of ownership was fantastic, things rapidly took a turn for the worst maybe a year and a half into it. After two and a half years the entire thing just stopped working too. I 100% would not recommend this if you want to have something long term.

I love mine. It would be nice to be able to lap it, but thats my only complaint. The typability is shockingly decent.

I went through warranty after ten months when it warped. They sent me an older version that didnt fix the issue and mine is warping again. I resolved to never get another one again.

This case has the rubber issue on one hand. On the other hand it is miles ahead of absolutely any other case out there in all respects including Apples, for my needs. Ive had to replace mine twice in four years and will continue to do so because as much as I loathe the issue with the rubber borders I hate every other case out there that is vastly inferior even more.

I had bought Logitech combo touch for my iPad 9th gen, I loved it! Till I started facing general issues: 1. Keyboard would randomly disconnect and had to be reattached. 2. One time my cursor disappeared and nothing worked, I ended up having to restart my iPad. 3. Slightly wobbly on not-so-flat surfaces.

I am using the combo touch right now. The 2 things that make it better than the MK are the fact that you can lay it flat on the table without having a naked iPad and the function keys.

I have had the same protective case for over 2 years, but only been using my device seldomly and as a result had no issue. However, after thoroughly using it every day since Q4 2024, the warped and flimsy rubber started to rear its ugly head. Fast-forward to present day, the rubber is loose on over half of the area. Additionally, the magnet for the keyboard feels weaker and less secure.
