Summary

The MonsGeek FUN60 Ultra is a budget-friendly 60% gaming keyboard that stands out for its aluminum build and TMR (Tunneling Magnetoresistance) sensor technology, making it one of the first keyboards to offer this more precise alternative to Hall Effect. Reddit sentiment is mixed: enthusiasts are impressed by the hardware quality and magnetic switch versatility, including the ability to hot-swap mechanical switches alongside magnetic ones, while a vocal portion of users consistently report frustrating software issues, intermittent connectivity problems, and occasional QC failures. It's best suited for gamers who want entry-level magnetic keyboard tech at a low price point and are willing to tolerate a rough software experience.

Pros

  • TMR sensors offer theoretically greater precision than Hall Effect, with actuation points as low as 0.1mm achievable — appealing for competitive gaming and osu! players
  • Aluminum case gives it a premium feel that's rare at its ~$55–$70 price range, with users describing the build quality as genuinely solid
  • TMR hot-swap supports both magnetic and mechanical switches, letting users mix switch types (e.g., magnetic on WASD, mechanical elsewhere) — a unique flexibility not found on most budget HE boards
  • Wireless performance is praised, with battery lasting up to a week under heavy RGB use and up to two weeks with RGB off in 2.4GHz mode
  • Ships with 8000Hz polling rate out of the box, a spec more commonly found on premium boards
  • Multiple users report zero issues in daily use, suggesting QC problems are not universal and many units perform reliably long-term

Cons

  • Software (web driver and app) is widely criticized as poorly designed, lacking basic features like polling rate adjustment, clear battery indicators, and intuitive layer switching
  • Connectivity issues in wireless and even wired mode are a recurring complaint — some units randomly disconnect, fail to be recognized by PC, or require firmware reflashing to fix
  • A firmware update reportedly bricked some units; Monsgeek support response times can be slow (3+ days), and resolution isn't always guaranteed
  • Included Akko Glare switches are considered low quality by experienced users, with some reporting switches breaking during hot-swap — immediate replacement is advised
  • No analog mode (like Wooting's joystick-style input for racing games) — Monsgeek has not implemented this feature yet, unlike Wooting and Lemokey
  • Compared to alternatives like MCHOSE Ace 60 Pro or Wooting 60HE, the FUN60 Ultra's software and firmware reliability lag behind, making it a harder sell for users who need consistent performance

Great Hardware, Terrible Software

Nearly every Reddit thread on the FUN60 Ultra lands in the same place: the aluminum build and TMR tech impress, but the software is so frustrating that some users hacked the firmware themselves trying to unlock basic features Monsgeek simply refuses to implement.

Is TMR Actually Worth It at This Price?

Reddit is split. Some say the TMR precision is overkill for most users and the real value is the aluminum case, while competitive gamers argue the accuracy edge over Hall Effect is exactly what they're paying the $20–$30 premium for.

The Mechanical Switch Hot-Swap is a Sleeper Feature

A surprising number of users bought the TMR version not for the sensors, but for north-facing RGB compatibility with shine-through keycaps and the ability to run mechanical switches — use cases Monsgeek didn't heavily market.

Fantastic review. Did make me regret my Rainy 75 HE purchase. The main point is that it's HE over TMR.

I'm gradually coming to the conclusion that every mechanical board but Keychron and maybe Wooting has software that is completely ass.

Good thought and technology, bad software. They are using QMK, but it's hidden behind an API that is used by the software/web app. If they just released the source code, it would easily be the No. 1 keyboard.

THERE ARE TOO MANY PEOPLE SAYING THE SOFTWARE IS AWFUL. THERE ARE TOO MANY PEOPLE SAYING EVEN IN WIRED MODE, THE KEYBOARD DROPS OUT. NO THANK YOU, I WILL SPEND MY MONEY ELSEWHERE.

The battery life is very good - I'm using full RGB and used it heavily for at least 8 hrs a day, and it was lasting up to a week. But if you want to max it out, turn off the RGB. It also decreases latency (RGB increases latency). Then it can last even 2 weeks.

Being able to lower the polling rate would be a great addition for customising performance vs battery life for wireless users. I have recently got the Fun60 Pro and I'm finding the battery life disappointing. It would also be great if there was somewhere that listed all of the system FN shortcuts.

As someone who tried extremely hard to make the fun 60 ultra work, to the point of literally hacking the software to get certain features to work... Moved to a keychron qmk and it's insane how much basic crap that monsgeek refuse to implement, not that they haven't but straight up refuse.

My fucking spacebar just stopped working outright, it's measuring the input as 0.4 when fully pressed down. I've had fucking enough of this bullshit. I got it brand new like two weeks ago, feels like the worst decision I've ever made!

This is my first time with a keyboard that has software to tweak the settings and I'm very disappointed. Thought maybe I will try something new and technologically advanced, but had a disappointing experience with the software.

This one has so much potential. I hate the switch beneath the Caps Key. Why the hell would anyone sane do that!?

I tested the keyboard, and when I check its polling rate, even with the RGB on, it rarely goes above 120Hz — whether wired or wireless.

Monsgeek is Akko's sub brand. Keep in mind there are 2 versions of the fun60 ultra TMR, one is wired only at about $70ish, the other is wired + wireless (bluetooth/dongle). Wireless performance is really close to wired which is really impressive for this keyboard at this price.

Yep, there is connectivity issue when using dongle mode. I literally can't enable RGB light. Support doesn't care and is trying not to help me at their best! They say that there might be some interference with wifi or with dongle while it's next to HDMI port. Literally nonsense. Worst support ever.

I used mine wired. Software is crap and not much modding. Great keyboard otherwise.

Wired in, feels more snappy than my wooting60, changed the switches and using for a month no problem.

Very unreliable pcb oem, at the same price I'd take an irok mer68/pro/max which has much more reliable firmware with better configurators available.

Keyboard looks great on paper but I'll give you my data point. It stopped being recognized by my pc after 2 days.

I have the m1w and it feels so premium. I have zero issues with anything and want to keep these keyboard till it becomes heritage listed.

I poured my own silicone dampener and gave mine a tape mod. Pretty stable performance wise. Just do not attempt to mess with the default system keys or profile swap keys as it may cause a full reset. Also the Akko Glare switches are garbage so swap those out. And expect a few to even break cause they are that cheap.

No connectivity issues with mine. I usually use 2.4GHz for competitive gaming.

Had mine for a week working ok so far. Even swapped most of the switches into mechanical switches and they work good.

Do the offline driver installation, update firmware, reboot PC. If you ever have a connection issue that will fix it.

If your goal is potential for modability go for the wooting. Sure the fun60 is TMR so you get more switch options. But most people won't be making 3rd party cases for the fun60.

Very beautiful, very good quality...if it worked. Totally dead no life signal. Bought and refunded same day of unboxing. Buy a better one, is not a good keyboard.

I bought M1 VIA and TMR, and for some reason on both of them I had to restore to the original settings due to unresponsiveness within the month of owning them, which worked.

Its unreliable, if you're mentally ready to deal if any problem comes ahead, go for it or else look for other options.

I got myself one for christmas and almost a week later I haven't been able to use it. It doesn't work out of the box depending on your setup, mainly being if you have an AMD cpu. Trying to troubleshoot it will lead you to emailing the manufacturer to receive a firmware update however it took them 3 days to respond to me.

Just save yourself the annoyance and don't get it. Sure the keyboard itself may be good from a technical stand point but the software is straight garbage. I couldn't even use mine until I got sent a new pcb and even then I still had some weird input delay. Go with a keyboard brand that has better software that's reliable like mchose, or a wooting.

I have fun60 max and I say buy it. My cherry mx browns and mx reds feel like an absolute toy, and like 5 usd keyboards besides fun60.

I've tested a handful of their boards without issue. People seem to come out of the cracks for any peripheral with issues. Go for it, maybe try Amazon in case something goes wrong, which it could with any keyboard.

I'm very happy with my Monsgeek Fun60 Ultra purchase. It's just my gaming board. It has HE and 8k with serviceable software that does what I need it to do.

I just bought the fun60 ultra sp version this week. The build is really good. But the software update on the web bricked my fun60. RGB is on but the keys can't be calibrated. Not gonna run through some reflashing or whatsoever, I just refunded it.

I heard that the latest firmware update has bricked some of these keyboards. I'm considering returning mine if that's the case, not sure if it's worth keeping or not.

Guess I've been one of the lucky ones. I was an early adopter. Zero issues with the board out of the box. Love it.

The switches themselves feel great stock and they can be lubed if you'd like. They have a VERY unique sound. It's really hard to describe them but they have this very poppy chattery sound that I myself love, but others may not.

The product (fun 60 ultra) is really good and premium kb at low price, but software need more features to make it perfect.

People that post tend to be hugely biased towards bad experiences as 'all good' is usually not what one would post. Through reading bad reviews you can get an idea of what to expect when buying.

Hardware is good, software is not. If you are not a power user then it's a good purchase. Otherwise go with MCHOSE or any other big brand.

Switch out the switches immediately. And do not expect to ever use them again cause the Akko Glares are terrible switches and you will probably break a good amount of the switches hotswapping them for new so do not expect to be able to reuse them in any other board.
