Summary

The NuPhy WH80 is a wireless Hall Effect TKL keyboard that has earned a strong following for its premium build quality, gorgeous aesthetics, and satisfying typing experience. Community sentiment is largely positive, with users consistently praising its heavy, solid feel, thocky sound profile, and vibrant RGB — especially the iconic front lightbar. However, the WH80 has a well-documented firmware problem: a February 2026 update broke 2.4GHz connectivity for many users, causing missed keystrokes and erratic behavior that has frustrated even longtime NuPhy fans. It sits in a competitive wireless HE keyboard market and appeals most to enthusiasts who prioritize looks and feel over rock-solid software reliability.

Pros

  • Premium build quality that rivals custom keyboards costing significantly more — the all-metal top and chassis feel exceptionally dense and solid
  • Hall Effect switches (Jade Dragon-N) deliver smooth, precise actuation with adjustable travel, making it competitive with HE boards like the Wooting 60HE+
  • Standout aesthetics with a front RGB lightbar, optional transparent 'Dots' keycap set, and a clean modern silhouette that users consistently describe as stunning
  • Excellent battery life reported by multiple users — one user went an entire month on a single charge without RGB enabled
  • Ships with two keycap sets (standard and transparent crystal caps), giving users flexibility to customize their look immediately
  • Volume knob feels tactile and premium to use, and the keyboard includes both USB-C to USB-C and USB-C to USB-A cables in the box

Cons

  • Firmware reliability is a serious issue — the February 2026 update broke 2.4GHz dongle connectivity for many users, with no clean rollback path available for the RF module
  • Stock keycaps are ABS, not PBT, meaning they will develop shine with heavy use — a notable compromise at this price point
  • The spacebar has a noticeably louder sound profile than the rest of the keys, standing out in quiet environments and disrupting an otherwise cohesive acoustic experience
  • NuPhy software has recurring bugs: RGB custom color picker greyed out, caps lock light behavior locked to blue and non-configurable, and volume knob marker misaligned with actual volume level
  • Jade Dragon-N switches have been reported to develop unwanted clicks after a few weeks of heavy use, requiring re-lubrication by the user
  • No white backlight — attempting to set keys to white produces a purple tint, a frustrating limitation for users with clean desk setups

The Firmware Problem That's Dividing the Community

A February 2026 firmware update bricked 2.4GHz connectivity for a growing number of WH80 owners, with no complete rollback solution. NuPhy's handling of the situation has left some users permanently stuck on wired-only or Bluetooth mode — a bitter irony for a keyboard sold as a flagship wireless product.

Is the WH80 Worth It Over Cheaper HE Alternatives?

Users coming from SteelSeries TKL Wireless and Wooting boards generally rate the WH80's feel and aesthetics higher, but question whether the premium is justified given ABS keycaps, switch lubing issues, and software bugs. At least one user switched back to a budget board after the firmware saga.

The Spacebar Has Its Own Sound Profile — and Not Everyone Likes It

Multiple owners independently flagged the WH80's spacebar as acoustically inconsistent with the rest of the board. Some users swapped it out for NuPhy's own Ghostbar to fix it — a workaround that works, but feels like extra homework on a premium keyboard.

I updated the keyboard, the 2.4 GHz receiver and the BT RF module to the latest (2026 February 11) firmware. Since then, the keyboard cannot connect to the receiver, the front LED strip works fully erratic. So I have an '8000 Hz wireless' keyboard which I can only use in wired (8000Hz) or BT (125 Hz) mode.

Owning one from the beginning of February. Charged it once at the beginning of the month and since then I forgot about it. Not using the LED lighting. I am using it over 2.4GHz/1KHz. I had a lot of pain while trying to install the latest keyboard firmware. I asked NuPhy to make the initial firmware available again, because I had no option to rollback. Now I am with the factory firmware (110) and things are back to normal. The build quality is good. The knob is nice. What I would have liked was some PBT keycaps.

Yes, owned this since it launched in November 2025 and each firmware update introduces a new issue or bug. Maybe going back to the original firmware might be the solution. On the battery, RGB definitely would kill a battery quicker but I'm running a static colour on a fairly low brightness. My expectations were definitely a lot higher.

I've owned a WH80 since the end of December. I agree with a lot of the review, and I'd recommend this keyboard to just about anyone. But the Jade Dragon-N switches are not built well and not well-lubricated from factory. Mine started getting a clicky sound after only a week or two, with the most frequently used keys having this issue first. I've had to re-lubricate each switch, sometimes multiple times, to fix the issue.

Looks sooo good. Love the keycaps. If I wouldn't prefer low profile so much more this would have been my pick for sure.

I do recommend using a wrist rest as the keyboard is quite tall.

It came with two sets, non clear on the board and clear in a separate box. The keys are pretty legible, although they look strange in the photos. You get two sets of key caps, so if you don't like the clear ones, don't put them on.

NuPhy said mine was more than a firmware issue. Some common fixes include: resetting the Wi-Fi on the board by holding Fn + 4 until the keyboard flashes, rolling back to a previous firmware for the board, dongle and RF, or trying a different USB port or moving the wireless dongle closer to the board.

I recently switched from the AIR75 HE to the NuPhy WH80. Both are wonderful, but each has their own target group. If you're into low profile and that's your main criteria, go for the Air75 HE — it's one of the best low profile keyboards currently on the market. The WH80 is a beautiful keyboard, but it's bulky and big.

It looks like IQUNIX EZ80. Still looks phenomenal.

It's remarkable right! Just gutted there's no actual proper reviews of this wonderful product! The pics and videos don't even do justice! I just want to help others who are on the fence of buying and which colour they should go for!

I just ordered it! The letters on the white model look really thin and light in photos, but I was told they are very legible in person.

For some odd reason if I connect the receiver to my Mac, the keyboard can connect to the receiver. But very often it doesn't recognize the keystrokes. In Mac I rolled back the keyboard and the RF module driver to the earlier version, but the problem still occurs, and the keyboard front light starts flickering. Sadly the 2.4 GHz receiver driver can't be rolled back to an earlier driver.

Nice! I didn't notice the front lighting effect before. That's pretty sweet! Also those keycaps.

I absolutely love the WH80. My only complaint so far is that the spacebar is obnoxiously loud. Especially with the Dots keycap set on. The other keys all sound amazing, but that spacebar. I'm currently using the regular keycaps and am using the Nuphy Ghostbar as a replacement for the spacebar. Now it sounds amazing.

This keyboard looks nice but the software is trash. I've had so many bugs and issues with it that I just finally gave up and went back to my way cheap, yet way superior EA75.

Got mine in today. Great keyboard, sounds wonderful. The case quality is very high. I've had a bunch of full custom keyboards that were $700+ when I was in the hobby and this case feels great. Most of what you'll touch is metal. Software seems to work great. I have a Wooting 60HE+ and it's pretty comparable.

Not sure why they don't allow us to select the color for the dongle setting. Also, caps lock makes the light bar a solid blue. Can't change that either. So annoying.

If it has a plastic case like it seems it does, it's kind of a let down. Great features apart from that.

I got my delivery yesterday as well. Very excited. It sounds more premium than the Halo75v1 I replaced with it. I was trying to figure out how to change the color of the light bar in front, mine just does this scrolling pink line.

Damn that is beautiful. I am new to collecting keyboards and always liked transparent technology.

I've had nothing but bugs and issues with this keyboard since day 1. Ended up going back to my cheap EA75 which works without issue. Key presses not registering, other keys getting stuck and inputting characters even when I wasn't touching anything, and laggy input. The NuPhy app to tweak settings also had a fair share of bugs. Also, there's no white backlight color — the closest you get is a purple color. For a premium keyboard, all of that was unacceptable for me.

I recently got the WH80 and just finished updating everything, only to run into the exact same issue. Bluetooth works fine, but 2.4G via the dongle is a mess. It felt like the keyboard was reconnecting after every single keystroke, and the dongle LED was constantly blinking. I simply unplugged and replugged the dongle and it seems to be working stable now. I'm still on the latest firmware.

I seem to be facing the same issue — I'll spam a key and will notice it will inconsistently not register certain keystrokes. Super disappointing, makes the keyboard feel unreliable.

To be perfectly honest, if they ever release a 'WH100%' — I'd probably sell the WH80 I just ordered immediately. I like having a keyboard that can 'do it all' and I'm fortunate enough to have the desktop real estate to make it work pretty comfortably.

I only used it in wired mode so I haven't had that firmware experience. It's overall pretty quiet, except the space bar as mentioned in another comment.

I think you can rollback to the old firmware version. And yes, I confirm, most of the time no issues at all. But it usually happens at clutch time — Murphy's law.

I installed those dots keycaps right away as I only wanted this keyboard for them. Performance wise it's holding up well! I had it on wireless mode because I wanted a clean desk to take pictures and videos but I will be using USB most probably in the very near future.

Spoke to their support rep. It's not TMR. I found it misleading too. Going to decline the delivery.

I do like the knob. I wound up using the one on the Kick more than I thought, despite it looking like a toy. I'm still hunting for a slim/low profile keyboard, although this is tempting.

Cant see how much battery charge I have left. NuPhy can use the light bar to do exactly this — have emailed them about this. Also there is a glitch that doesn't allow me to change the RGB on the keyboard if I am switching between modes, specifically in M2 mode.

Compared to my Steelseries TKL wireless gen 3 (their top end board which is really great), this feels better and is of very high quality. Extremely well made and premium feeling. Very heavy — difficult to describe keyboard sounds, but it's very pleasant and quieter than my Steelseries, just the space bar has a very different sound to the rest of the keyboard.

It's great, ain't it! I've got the pink accent caps on mine right now, sorta wish they'd gone with RED for the accent keycaps — missed opportunity there — but oh well. Still kinda legit, try it out sometime!

If you're worried about hand strain, I would suggest using a wrist rest with the WH80 due to its height. I'm using the HyperX TKL wrist rest myself, which feels like it's made for the WH80 in terms of size. It's very comfortable too. In terms of typing fatigue, I haven't noticed much of a difference between the WH80 and the Air75 HE. Both are really comfortable to type on for longer periods of time.

Same issue with FW114 — no matter if on cable, BT, or 2.4GHz. Test: press 1 as fast as you can in testing mode from nuphy.io and you will see that key presses are missed. I have issues when typing my passwords, this is how I discovered the annoying issue. I am not even using this keyboard for gaming. It is sad they pushed this device to shop with this kind of issues.
