Summary

The Qwertykeys Hex80 is a Hall Effect TKL keyboard born from a collaboration between Qwertykeys and ATK Gear, and it's earned a strong reputation for its premium aluminum build and exceptional sound profile. Reddit's mechanical keyboard community consistently places it among the top HE boards for anyone who prioritizes feel and acoustics over software depth. Most owners describe the typing experience as satisfying and the build quality as noticeably better than plastic-bodied competitors. The main friction points revolve around software limitations, inconsistent shipping logistics, and questions about long-term firmware support. It's best suited for enthusiasts who want a polished, ready-to-use HE board without needing deep customization software.

Pros

  • Full aluminum construction gives the Hex80 a premium, dense feel that stands out against plastic-cased competitors like the Wooting 80HE at a similar or lower price point
  • Sound profile is widely praised — users describe it as deep, thocky, and almost raindrop-like, with several owners calling it the best-sounding gaming keyboard they've ever used
  • Ships pre-assembled with quality stabilizers and includes stock keycaps, offering strong out-of-box value compared to barebones kit alternatives like the Neo80
  • Rapid trigger and actuation point customization work reliably once set up — multiple users report setting it once and never needing to revisit the software
  • Available in five distinct colorways (Anodized Grey, Tyrian, Sandgold, Spark, Baby Pink), giving it broader aesthetic appeal than most HE competitors
  • Compatible with Gateron Jade series and TTC KOM series switches, with aftermarket KS20-family switch support unlike Keychron's more limited KS37 ecosystem

Cons

  • Software is a notable weak point — bugs include macros capped at 16 inputs, DKS settings resetting across custom profiles, and a non-English interface that frustrates some Western users
  • No analog/controller input emulation, which puts it behind the Wooting 80HE for users wanting joystick-style input in games
  • Shipping experience is frequently frustrating — pre-order customers report weeks of unclear tracking, incorrect tracking numbers, and customs fees that weren't clearly communicated upfront
  • Long-term firmware support is uncertain; the community notes that many HE keyboard manufacturers abandon updates within 12 months, and the Hex80's closed-source software lacks the safety net of QMK/open-source alternatives
  • Customer support via Discord is inconsistent, with some users reporting unhelpful responses and slow resolution for hardware issues like incorrect keycap legends
  • At ~$220–$330 USD depending on region and shipping, European buyers in particular may find the value proposition weakened by taxes and import costs

Set It and Forget It — Until Something Goes Wrong

Owners who never touch the software after setup rave about the Hex80's reliability, with one user logging over 500 hours of gaming with zero issues. But those who dig into macros or custom profiles run into real bugs — and customer support through Discord hasn't filled the gap.

Best Build in Its Price Range, but Software Is a Year Behind

The Hex80 wins on aluminum construction and acoustics, but Reddit keeps circling back to the same concern: what happens when firmware updates stop? Without QMK or open-source fallback, buyers are betting on Qwertykeys staying engaged — something the broader HE market hasn't rewarded consistently.

The Wooting Killer That Still Can't Replace Wootility

Multiple users switched from Wooting to the Hex80 for better build quality and sound — and don't regret it. But the consensus is clear: if you need deep software control, rapid trigger fine-tuning, or analog input, the Hex80 trades features for feel. For most typists and casual gamers, that's the right trade.

if you enjoy typing on the HE switches, and its pleasant to you.... go ahead and treat yourself. You know the value in a mattress because we spend a 3rd of our lives on them. In my opinion, the keyboard is just as important and worthy of treating similarly. You spend a lot of your day on it, using it, interacting with it.

If it was a 75% layout or smaller I would consider it, TKLs are too big for me now xD. But quality, looks and sound wise this board seems to be the real deal (based on various reviews I watched). I actually like the keycap design too.

From the reviews, the Hex80 might be a little faster than the Wooting, but they're all in the 1 ms range, so it's not really perceivable.

So far I have used it in Battlefield 2042 and Deadlock and works pretty well. Things I really like is the built in profile button is really nice when you are just using your PC normally and it works just like a standard Mechanical Keyboard and your not accidentally pressing keys and just hit the profile key to go into your next profile you set up for gaming. This is the best sounding Gaming keyboard I have ever used. Had a ton over the years from Logi to Razer and so on.

Let's be real, you won't notice any difference performance wise. As an overall product, i.e keyboard, Hex80 is more polished and have more customization possibilities. Keychron HE boards are using KS37 type switches, while most aftermarket switches are KS20, so you are limited with only few options if you don't like stock ones or just want to try something new.

Because time and time again, manufacturers have proven to do a terrible job with software. Half these HE keyboard companies will stop releasing updates after 12 months, and few that still do release updates dont add features or actually refine their tools. Im not saying the HEX80 falls into this category, but when the open source alternative is more reliable, consistent and will have longer term support than any manufacturer its pretty important.

Works perfectly fine still set it up have not really touched the settings since just use their web browser config to check for firmware updates every once in a while. Easy over 500 hours game time between BF6 and Deadlock.

After waiting nearly two months, I finally got the Hex80 in. I don't know much about keyboards... I'd been using a Corsair K65 with Cherry MX Red switches for the last decade or so. After fondling the SteelSeries Apex Pro TKL Gen 3 at Best Buy, I got pulled down the rabbit hole of Hall Effect keyboards. I tried Lemokey, Nuphy and others before getting a recommendation on here to check out the Hex80. I would like to extend my thanks to whoever left that comment because they were right: the board is excellent.

I have two that I use daily, one for work and one at home. Set them up once and haven't gone back to the software since. They work flawlessly, not much else to say.

I ended up buying a second Hex80 for work, in a different colorway. I could've maybe saved $70 or so on a mechanical keyboard that MIGHT have been comparable, but even then I couldn't be sure until I received it. I also really like the aesthetic of the Hex80 so I figured, what the hell, and ordered another.

Hex80, and yes it's way better than my old Wooting. Don't expect better performance by swapping one HE keyboard for another HE keyboard... it's more about improved typing feel and better sound. I also love the build quality.

hex80. Q1 HE switch family is much worse, and firmware's missing some features. However if you're ok with 75% just do an everglide su75 pro, similar performance and build but a good bit cheaper.

my experience was interesting, so I pre ordered the keyboard like the same day the keyboard went up for sale, and then finally on august 27th i got a shipping confirmation that my keyboard was gonna be shipped out soon, and i then got the tracking number, but the tracking number that they gave me was completely wrong, it says UPS still doesn't have my package. the keyboard is so good though.

I'd fall in love with it if it had support for Split Backspace, Stepped CapsLock and 7U Bottom Row.

I ordered a hex80 too 1-2 weeks ago, was contemplating between shipping to a freight forwarding or directly to my address in Dubai. I opted for it to be shipped in the US since I also had other purchases. Glad I read about the shipping delays as only the first 30 days of storage is free in the freight forwarder so I'm now aware that it can even take longer.

I hope they add customization add-ons. I would like to buy a different color button for my gray case.

got this and i love it! super value for the price. Was considering between this and the neo80 CU and am really glad i took this route. For less than the price of the barebones neo80 kit, it has nice keycaps and great switches and it's assembled with perfect stabs. Am really glad with my purchase and it has much more functions than other alternatives.

I will always choose any of the qwertykeys companies over almost anything else. I've not had a bad experience with anything they make. Top notch products.

Are you a competitive gamer who needs instant response time and light as a feather actuation? If you aren't, get the Hex80 or the Slice75. HE is overrated unless you need that extra millisecond edge in gaming.

I have a Hex 80 myself, i got it for 220 usd and i have to say its absolutely great. The build quality and the sound are just top notch, i dont think there is any other keyboard that is more premium than Hex 80 even if we are considering a custom wooting 80 HE, Rakka Edge and IQUINIX.

i totally get wanting better build - wooting plastics feel cheap compared to customs. the hex80 will be a huge step up in feel and sound since it's full aluminum. you'll lose the wootility software though which is the best in the game. if you're ok with simpler software for better build the Hex80 is worth it.

Out of those 3 the Hex80 is the best. However IMO they are all subpar options for the price.

Out of the mentioned i think my order would be Hex 80 because i like how the purple version looks. Build quality and sound are clearly better than most options I've tried.

The performance difference he's talking about is not possible to detect as a human by the way, just get what you personally like better.

yeah if qwerty keys could actually ship them out, maybe then it would actually add something to the market. right now its basically just a concept with a couple prototypes sent out for review.

It's a pretty common experience when ordering a Chinese boards, most of the time it's an order and forget about it for a month type situation. I preordered the board months ago and finally got it last Tuesday. Even when I got the UPS tracking number it was showing like a week or two of ups didn't even have the package. Once they had possession of the package it was here in 3 days.

I pre-ordered mine when it launched from Unikeys and it initially showed delivery before Sept. 15. Unfortunately, unikeys is now saying there's a PCB production issue and my keyboard still hasn't shipped out yet.

Hex 80 doesnt have analog input, it cant emulate a controller, currently the software is bugged which makes the keyboard unable to record more than 16 inputs when making a macro. Additionally custom profiles make the keyboard forget/misplace DKS settings. So these are all the cons of Hex 80, its all software limitations. I have not had any other issues so far but i will be returning mine for its malfunctioning macro feature.

Anyone that suggest you atk keyboard just avoid them. Wooting would be the best option.

the Hex80 might be the best build quality out of all 3. However, reminder that it's a collab board between qwertykeys and atk. never dealt with ATK as far as the keyboard side of stuff. but their customer service for their mice side of their business is terrible.

I hear minor PCB issues with this board and that the software isn't the easiest to work with, but there are people mentioning that their Wooting has broke as well, but at least the Wooting has a long warranty. But the Wooting is basically a $100 board.

nah they don't have controller input on this, great keyboard with high specs but no controller input what a shame.

Good news is that if you don't want hall effect there are probably 100 boards or more that sound just as good or better for less than $250.

I ordered mine in the States the day it dropped 8/5 and didn't even see an option so mine is sea freight. I got an e-mail with a tracking number on 8/24 but that was just the creation of the label in California for the last mile courier. So I guess mine is still on a boat in the middle of nowhere.

IMO the 80HE, Hex80, Slice75 are all in the bracket of mediocre performance while still being extremely expensive (compared to other options). The 80HE has the best software with good latency performance but horrible accuracy. The Slice75 is kind of the opposite, mediocre software, mediocre latency, but very accurate switches. The Hex80 seems to be in the middle with good but not great software and accuracy, and mediocre latency.
