Summary

The Razer BlackWidow V4 75% is a hot-swappable 75% keyboard that draws strong interest for its build quality, compact form factor, Chroma RGB, and comfortable included wrist rest. However, it's been plagued by a well-documented and widespread key chattering issue tied to its stock orange tactile switches — users across multiple threads report keys double-typing or failing to register within weeks to months of use. The core Reddit debate isn't whether the keyboard looks and feels premium, but whether it will survive past the 3-month mark without needing switch replacements or an RMA. Many users who swapped in third-party switches (Gateron, TTC, Kailh) report a much better experience, suggesting the board itself has merit — but paying $150+ for a keyboard that requires immediate modding is a hard sell. A firmware update appears to have helped some users, and newer production batches may have addressed some issues, though reports of continued failures cast doubt on a full fix.

Pros

  • Hot-swap support (5-pin/2-pin compatible) makes switch replacement straightforward — users who swapped to Gateron, TTC Frozen Silent, or Kailh Box switches report excellent performance and sound
  • Build quality and typing feel are praised even by critics — the board has good acoustics, solid construction, and a premium feel that rivals custom keyboards when modded
  • Comfortable magnetic wrist rest included out of the box, which users consistently highlight as a standout accessory
  • Razer Chroma RGB integration is a genuine advantage for users already in the Razer ecosystem, enabling per-key lighting sync across devices via Synapse
  • Compact 75% layout with function row appeals to users who travel or want desk space savings without losing navigation keys
  • A firmware update released by Razer reportedly reduced double-typing for some users, and newer batches (late 2024+) may have improved QC on orange switches

Cons

  • Stock orange tactile switches have a documented chatter/double-typing defect — keys begin misfiring within weeks to months for a significant portion of buyers, with some units failing on day one
  • The defect may be board-level, not just switch-level: multiple users report that replacing all switches with third-party options still results in chattering returning after a few months
  • Razer's RMA policy offers only 1-for-1 replacements with the same defective product — users cycling through 3-4 replacement units report no resolution
  • At ~$150-$200, competitors like the Keychron Q series, Wobkey Rainy75, or Wooting 80HE offer better reliability, VIA/QMK support, and superior acoustics at the same or lower price point
  • Razer Synapse software dependency is a persistent complaint — RGB profiles and some features require background software running at all times
  • No USB passthrough ports, which the older BlackWidow lineup offered — a noted regression for users upgrading from previous models

A Great Board Trapped Inside a Defective Switch Problem

Reddit users consistently praise the BlackWidow V4 75%'s build, acoustics, and feel — but most who stuck with it long-term did so only after replacing every stock orange switch. The keyboard you pay for and the keyboard you end up using are often very different things.

Is the Double-Typing Issue Finally Fixed in New Batches?

Razer attributed the problem to 'a limited batch of orange switches,' but users well into 2024 and 2025 continue reporting the same failures. Some late-2024 buyers report no issues; others on new units are still cycling through RMAs. The jury is still out.

The Razer Ecosystem Tax: Chroma Is the Only Reason Left to Buy This

Users who ditched the V4 75% almost universally moved to keyboards with better value — Keychron, Wooting, Wobkey — and report zero regrets on build quality or features. The one thing they miss: seamless Chroma RGB sync across other Razer peripherals.

The blackwidow I reviewed is still the worst keyboard I've ever used. The fact that people simp razer is absurd to me. Between their headsets, mice, keyboards, mousepads and more, most of it is trash even at their best. Some of their products are good for what they are, but you're also dealing with a shit company with shit QC. Tried so many of their products and always a huge disappointment.

The v4 is a hotswapable keyboard. If a key double presses.. replace the switch. 9/10 times it's because the contact point in the switch is crap or the contact points of the switch to the pcb aren't making a good connection. The blackwidow v4 has been a fantastic keyboard, if you replace the switches with non razer switches. The actual board is really well made and has a great sound to it but the switches razer uses are just junk.

Search this subreddit for the 75% and you will find many people with issues. It's very widespread. The keyboard is great when it works. But don't expect it to work for long

I bought one back in November and had the keys double registering issue in less than a month, returned it right away. Only reason I ever bought it was cause of all the positive reviews I saw for the keyboard. Sure it works great the first week or two but then keys start double registering for me and it was unacceptable for a keyboard at this price. I went to look up the issue and realized many others had the same problem.

I'm on my second Black Widow with failing switches. I'm planning to build my own board in the near future.

Just my 2 cents here. I can't say about stock form, since when I received, I immediately changed it to TTC Silver V2 switches. But for months now my keyboard has been awesome and flawless ... :) maybe a bad batch of switches?

I'm pretty sure it's just their awful switches causing the problem.

You should be ok. Those were early batches that had the issues. Besides, it's hot swappable, any problematic switches just replace (can even use non-Razer 2 or 5 pin).

You can but you'll have to replace all the switches, eventually the shitty Razer switches start double typing, and the only way to resolve is to swap 3rd party switches. FYI, once replaced, the keyboard is awesome, using some fancy gaterons, feel fantastic and chroma is delightful

I bought mine in January and have around 300 hours of gaming on it with 0 issues. The orange switches feel and sound great.

DON'T BUY THIS KEYBOARD I have it and some keys don't work and some keys double click. And razer support won't help me either.

I just want to add a comment that my keyboard is behaving exactly the same. And it is not even 6 months old. Crappy keyboard all in all...

For future viewers, I've had mine for nearly a year now and am currently typing on it. I don't know what this guy does to his keyboards but it won't be an issue for you. Coming from an enthusiast standpoint, it is actually a pretty nice keyboard. The stock orange switches feel pretty good, they are very tactile. It has a pretty decent sound profile stock and can easily be opened and modified to make it better, which I have. It also has hotswap, so it is very easy to replace the switches inside.

Anyone still here I just wanna say that this is a SWITCH issue not a KEYBOARD issue and since the board is a hot swap keyboard, that means that you can buy more switches (that aren't even Razer brand) and it should work perfectly fine. Of course this doesn't make it okay by any means, Razer shouldn't be selling shitty switches.

I love mine and have never once seen a hint of the double type issue that others mention. That said, if I wasn't neck deep into the Razer ecosystem, I'd probably look elsewhere. Despite how much I like the keyboard, I know there are better options out there from better companies.

Looks amazing, really love the keycaps. I very similarly just started with the same keyboard. I just got it last week. Have had a ton of fun learning about the hobby. I felt that it was a great starting point keyboard. Expensive yes but it had a lot of things going for it for someone totally new. And, it was an easy transition from my previous Razer Huntsman.

Yeah, that's how it is. Mine worked perfectly for a few months then turned unusable... It's gotta be the worst product razer has ever made reliability wise. Unless u want to buy and swap the switches yourself, ask for a full refund. It's their problem.

I love mine and would recommend it highly, especially if you both game and work on the keyboard. The typing experience is that of a high end custom keyboard. As far as I know they fixed the orange switch double typing problem.

Absolutely not. None of razers keyboards are even remotely worth buying. What would you like in a 75% keyboard? Aluminium chassis? Thocky sound? VIA/QMK? High polling rate? Quick disassembly? Hall effect? You can get a much better kb that fulfills all your requirements for much less than what you pay for razer junk

Some people have said getting new switches resolved the double typing issue for them. Personally, I went through the rma process once due to double typing. Got the second keyboard and within a month it also started double typing. I bought Gateron yellow switches to replace the razer orange switches and within two weeks I have started getting double typing again. So at least for me it seems like it is a board issue and not a switch issue. Currently going through another rma.

I absolutely love this keyboard! However, after about two months, I started noticing some issues with double typing—initially, it was just a couple of keys, but then it spread to more. Luckily, this keyboard has a great feature: you can swap out the switches, which is pretty unique for a Razer model. So, I swapped to the TTC Frozen Silent V2 switches, which totally fixed the issue. In other words, the problem was just with the original orange switches, not the keyboard or its software. Now loaded with the new switches, it performs flawlessly.

It's not the switches, trust me. I have replaced ALL of them. It works fine for a few months after that and then the problem shows up again. This is the worst keyboard of all time. So disappointed.

I had been a long time fan of Razer and had the V4 Pro for a few of years. However, I got sick of having to fix the keys not registering or double-registering. At least with the 75%, the keys are hot-swappable so it doesn't require soldering to replace faulty switches.

I started doubletyping very fast after buying it. Lowering the polling rate from 8000 to 2000 seemed to fix the problem though. But I liked my previous version (from 2016 I think) more, I also had USB ports on the keyboard. The V4 doesn't have it.

Mine started doubletyping after 2 months, at first its 2 keys, then 3, 4, 6 all in a month... after that I replaced all of them with Kailh Box Silent Brown Switches on Jan 2025 and no problems since then, the keyboard is very comfortable now.

Orange switches = faulty. Use anything else (since it's hot swappable) or expect to be returning it every few weeks. Razer won't acknowledge the quality issue in manufacturing, so there is no point other than using other switches if you like the kb. Dozens of posts online and they still don't give a shit.

I have the Black Widow v4 Pro and LOVE it. I've had to RMA it twice though for the double clicking and JUST received my 3rd keyboard back last weekend and so far it's working great. Also, it appears that Razer finally provided a firmware update for the keyboard so I'm hoping that update will resolve the double typing.

I have the 75% nothing wrong with my switches. I personally have only come across about 2 other people that have had switch issues. If you are in doubt buy it from BestBuy put their warranty on it. Something goes wrong return it.

It definitely comes down to the board too, I was upset to see their post from 8 months ago blamed it on some bad switches. I've replaced the switches in mine with some from Akko, and the problem slowly creeps back. I've been using ChatterBlocker as a quick fix because I'm just too lazy to do the RMA process. Would be nice if there was a recall for the real problem tho.

Thanks guys, the ticket was resolved and they gave me a full refund on it. I guess I'll look into Keychrons now, rarely find negative reviews on them. I'll still be getting razer products but definitely not in keyboards.

I got my BW V4 75% about 3 months ago and recently experienced double inputs on several of the switches. As I was well past the return window with Best Buy, I ended up swapping in some cheap Outemu red linears that I had picked up for a different keyboard. They're not the best but for what it cost in terms of time and money, it's been fine.

I got the V4 and I cannot type a single sentence without correcting myself because of the double typing letters or the one that won't type at all until I press it multiple times.. Razer themselves acknowledged the tactile defect for blackwidow V4 so i would advise against buying it, stick with the huntsman, maybe get the v3 pro huntsman.

I got a Blackwidow v4 full size and immediately had issues with switches double tapping or not registering. It has gotten better, but since I don't trust the board, it is now my work keyboard, and I'm waiting for a Wooting.

I received the replacement keyboard after many, many emails where Razer sent me a single trouble shooting step that could have been done more than once a day. They eventually gave me an RMA code. I received the keyboard, and I'm currently testing it out.

I wound up going with some Gateron switches instead, and so far the issue seems to be entirely solved. Too bad, because I loved the feel of the Razer orange tactile ones, but the double typing was just too much of an issue.

I've had this keyboard since September. I had about 2-3 months of perfect usage until I took my keycaps off to clean it. Now I've got about 6-8 keys with constant chatter and it's really infuriating. Such a shame as I really did love this keyboard. It sounds and feels great as stock and it's the perfect blend of gaming aesthetic while actually feeling like a quality product.

Not the switches; I swapped all the switches to non-razer switches and it got rid of the issue for a few months before coming back the same as before.

Razer has actually addressed the issue finally a few weeks back, mentioning that yes, it was indeed 'limited to a small batch of orange switches', for whatever that's worth. I can say after using greens and yellows since, I've not had any issues!

I bought mine locally so it has a 1 year local warranty and a 2 year manufacturer's warranty from razer. Around the 6th month it started having double typing issues on some keys. Now I had read about the double typing issue online and a lot of people suggested that replacing the switches fixed the issue for them. At first I just moved the switches around using the ones that worked but when most of them failed I had no choice but to replace all of them.

I had the black widow v4 pro for about 3 months. I really liked the keyboard but hated how loud it was. In the short time period I used it, some of my keys started double typing. Even after doing various troubleshooting steps it didn't go away. I ended up using my warranty plan via best buy to get a full refund.

Sadly, no. It is the board. I have tried other switches with both of my keyboards. Same issue.
