Summary

The Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro is a feature-packed full-size mechanical keyboard that attracts longtime Razer fans with its macro keys, underglow lighting, Command Dial, magnetic wrist rest, and 8000Hz polling rate. Reddit sentiment is genuinely split — enthusiasts love the build quality, RGB, and extra controls, while a significant chunk of buyers have run into a well-documented double-typing defect that affects both the full-size Pro and the 75% variant. The issue appears tied primarily to the orange switches, though some users report it persisting even after swapping them out, pointing to possible board-level problems in earlier production batches. Newer units manufactured in late 2024 seem to have addressed the issue, and a firmware update has reportedly helped existing owners. For die-hard Razer fans who want M-keys, a media dial, and Chroma at the top of the lineup, this is the keyboard — but the QC history means you should buy from somewhere with a solid return policy.

Pros

  • M-keys (macro keys) return after years of absence — a major draw for power users who relied on them on older BlackWidow models
  • Command Dial with multiple assignable modes (volume, media, app switching, temperature display) adds genuine daily-driver utility beyond gaming
  • Underglow RGB and illuminated wrist rest deliver one of the most visually striking Chroma setups in the lineup — several users noted it as a conversation starter
  • 8000Hz polling rate and dual USB-C detachable cable setup offer a premium wired experience with future-proofing for competitive use
  • Green switch variant has a strong track record among owners who avoided the orange switch defect — multiple users reported 1-2+ years of trouble-free use
  • Users with newer late-2024 production batches (serial numbers starting IO24+) report no double-typing issues, suggesting manufacturing improvements over time

Cons

  • Orange tactile switches have a widely reported double-typing defect — multiple Reddit users went through 2-3 RMAs without a permanent fix, and Razer was slow to officially acknowledge the issue
  • No hot-swap support on the full-size Pro model, meaning switch replacement requires soldering — a significant limitation given the switch QC problems
  • Battery life on the V4 Pro 75% wireless variant is poor even with minimal RGB, making it hard to justify the $300 price over the wired non-Pro version
  • Priced at $229 USD at launch, the value proposition is weak — users on r/buildapcsales and r/mechanicalkeyboards frequently point to budget alternatives (Aula, Leobog, Wooting 60HE) that match or exceed performance at a fraction of the cost
  • ABS keycaps on a flagship-priced keyboard drew criticism at launch — PBT is standard at this price point from competing brands
  • Synapse software required for profile switching; onboard memory works but changing profiles without the software running is not seamless

The Double-Typing Problem: Switch Swap or Board Issue?

The most debated question in BlackWidow V4 Pro threads is whether the double-typing defect lives in the orange switches or the PCB itself. Some users fixed it by swapping to Gateron Yellows or Kailh Box Silent Browns — others went through three RMAs and still saw it return. Lowering the polling rate from 8000Hz to 2000Hz has also been reported as a temporary workaround.

Best Razer Keyboard for Macro Power Users — If You Can Stomach the Price

For anyone who relied on M-keys on older BlackWidow models and wants to stay in the Razer ecosystem, the V4 Pro is essentially the only game in town. Multiple long-time fans described buying V2s off eBay just to keep the macro key layout alive — the V4 Pro finally brings that back with a media dial on top.

Newer Production Units May Have Quietly Fixed the Defect

A few users who specifically received late-2024 manufactured units — identifiable by IO24 serial number prefixes — reported zero double-typing issues after months of use. Combined with a firmware update Razer pushed, there's cautious optimism that the batch-level defect has been addressed, though no official statement has confirmed it.

just hooked it up actually, opened synapse, checking it out. Usb pass through, not wireless, 8000hz polling, command dial adjustment modes, m keys, 3 side buttons. $229 usd

Oh my god I can retire my chroma v2 from 2014. M-Keys reign supreme!

My goodness, Razer really went all out with this one. Not only have macro keys returned, but it's even got underglow and a rotary encoder! I don't think a BlackWidow can get much more feature-packed than that.

ohhhhh, return of M keys. I have been buying V2s from ebay and cleaning them up since nothing in the current line up had them.

Search this subreddit for the 75% and you will find many people with issues. It's very widespread. The keyboard is great when it works. But don't expect it to work for long.

The v4 75% is by far the best gaming keyboard I've owned, nothing even comes close.

These keyboards are so robust. I bought the Razer Blackwidow Chroma 7 years ago. I just changed the keys on it and the thing looks brand new.

Looks like all the things I like. Magnetic plush wrist rest. Chroma lighting under the keyboard.

One of the folks here who had double typing issue. I am on my third 75% and I really like how solid this keyboard is. If I have to I'll swap the switches, even have the Gateron Yellow replacements handy. Even with two RMAs I'd say it's a pretty dang solid device.

I have the Blackwidow v4 pro and love it I've never had any issues though I have the green switches. The issue with seeing all the bad things about razer products is you only see one side of the story everyone is quick to complain if they have issues but if they don't and have a great product they will not say anything.

Do not get the Pro version. It's ass. It's just another generic razer keyboard with sub par build and it does not even include razer's best tech (optical switches). It's also very ugly and not even wireless.

There have been a number of reports of faulty models stemming from a design failure of the new switches in the Blackwidow v4 family. Primarily from weird implementation of 'gamer mode' instant re-activation detection. Where it is only supposed to re-register on stopping lift and downward movement again, it will get ghosting from the sensor and cause double-triple activations of the key (multiple keypress with only one press) or perma-press until unplugged and replugged when the switch glitches.

This is an okay keyboard; it doesn't do anything badly, IMO. It has a decent feel and sound, with a comparable build quality. With that being said, it is terribly overpriced. Any Aula or Leobog keyboard for 1/4 the price (or less) would do the same job.

Great keyboard—I've been using one for almost two years now. It has a truly premium typing feel, a super comfy wrist pad, and attractive features like lighting, a volume knob, and a left-side control knob. However, be aware of a double-typing issue. I experience double key presses on some keys about once every 1,000 presses.

I just sent mine in for warranty, my space bar was acting up, double space, would respond and be delayed. Never done the RMA so curious if I'm getting a new keyboard or they actually fixing mine.

The board is good - the construction is premium, the switches/keycaps and RGB are top notch. The dynamic scroll wheel is also very useful. The negative is that the battery life is pretty bad, even with minimal RGB and medium polling rate. Unless you absolutely need a wireless keyboard, I would go for wired non pro variant of the keyboard.

Just lost my Corsair K100 KB (loved it) and I'm looking for a replacement, I'm worried about this double click as I never had it with Corsair. I don't like the TKL options as I use numpad a lot for work.

Don't get this Keyboard, on mine the keys broke, and there is no way of repairing them, Razer support neglects the Customer here as always, even with no other damage and even the Key mostly intact they won't do anything, even with guarantee still there. Worst support ever as well. Never Buy a Razer Keyboard, if you're outside their eco System stay there!!!

Orange switches = faulty. Use anything else (since it's hot swappable) or expect to be returning it every few weeks. Razer won't acknowledge the quality issue in manufacturing, so there is no point other than using other switches if you like the kb. Dozens of posts online and they still don't give a shit.

It's not the switches, trust me. I have replaced ALL of them. It works fine for a few months after that and then the problem shows up again. This is the worst keyboard of all time. So disappointed.

Some people have said getting new switches resolved the double typing issue for them. Personally, I went through the rma process once due to double typing. Got the second keyboard and within a month it also started double typing. I bought Gateron yellow switches to replace the razer orange switches and within two weeks I have started getting double typing again. So at least for me it seems like it is a board issue and not a switch issue. Currently going through another rma.

I absolutely love this keyboard! However, after about two months, I started noticing some issues with double typing—initially, it was just a couple of keys, but then it spread to more. Luckily, this keyboard has a great feature: you can swap out the switches, which is pretty unique for a Razer model. So, I swapped to the TTC Frozen Silent V2 switches, which totally fixed the issue. In other words, the problem was just with the original orange switches, not the keyboard or its software.

I have the Black Widow v4 Pro and LOVE it. I've had to RMA it twice though for the double clicking and JUST received my 3rd keyboard back last weekend and so far it's working great. Also, it appears that Razer finally provided a firmware update for the keyboard so I'm hoping that update will resolve the double typing.

My first Blackwidow V4 Pro, awful double typing issue, did the RMA once, SAME issue came up, tried to just deal with it but got annoyed and tried a third time a month later. Third one has been typing very reliably. I had asked and found out this one I received was a recently manufactured version.

I would strongly advise you against it, I used the V2 until it died from old age and went to V4 pro and it's awful, the orange tactile are defected, acknowledged by razer themselves who offered to replace the main keys but with a catch.

Mine started doubletyping after 2 months, at first its 2 keys, then 3, 4, 6 all in a month... after that I replaced all of them with Kailh Box Silent Brown Switches on Jan 2025 and no problems since then, the keyboard is very comfortable now.

I started doubletyping very fast after buying it. Lowering the polling rate from 8000 to 2000 seemed to fix the problem though. But I liked my previous version more, I also had USB ports on the keyboard. The V4 doesn't have it.

I had been a long time fan of Razer and had the V4 Pro for a few of years. However, I got sick of having to fix the keys not registering or double-registering. At least with the 75%, the keys are hot-swappable so it doesn't require soldering to replace faulty switches. I switched to a GMMK a year ago and couldn't have been happier.

I have the V4 Pro with Yellow Switches, for 2 months now. So far, I haven't noticed any of the double pressing issues that people have mentioned. I use it for my work (programming) and casual gaming. The macro keys themselves are good, combined with the onboard memory.

I have both. Linears of V4 Pro since early last year - no issues. V4 75% orange switches didn't double click (bought it as soon as it was available to buy where I am coming from). Not sure if it's just the small percentage or some batch of V4 75% having issues and just nature of reddit for the matter blow up haha.

Not worth the price and the battery life is terrible. I'd look at the original Azoth.

Not at full price. I bought a refurbished one for 175 and that's the most I'd pay for one.

Single best work board out there, being a full sized and additional 12 macro buttons, roller and a knob. There's literally no other options out there that can match it in terms of available keys and the amazing RGB. The light up wrist rest has been a huge conversation starter as well anytime someone new comes over. It's only crippled by the lack of hot swap, and I wish it was offered as a full metal build.

I am using the Razer BlackWidow Pro right now (with Razer Yellow switches) for my keyboard at work. It's no Corsair K100, but I like it a lot. I have yet to have any problems with it.

No, find a better brand, Razer is not good anymore, unless you plan to change your mouse and keyboard every 1-3 years.

My keyboard that I had replaced 3 times, brick within 1-2 months. They work fine, and then poof, multiple keys start being pressed multiple times, or not at all. Very frustrating.

For the price of that keyboard you could get a wooting 80he or 60he v2. Why bother with razer lmao let alone a non hall-effect keyboard.

I had the black widow v4 pro for about 3 months. I really liked the keyboard but hated how loud it was (green caps), that's my fault though. In the short time period I used it, some of my keys started double typing. Even after doing various troubleshooting steps it didn't go away. I ended up using my warranty plan via best buy to get a full refund.

I've had mine for years, it's a great keyboard for development with that command dial and the location of its function buttons! No idea how it is as a gaming keyboard, cruising around Visual Studio or other IDEs? It's my jam.
