Summary

The Razer DeathStalker V2 Pro is a wireless low-profile mechanical keyboard that earns genuinely passionate fans and equally frustrated detractors. Users who love it praise the slim form factor, hot-swappable optical switches, and multi-device Bluetooth connectivity — it's a go-to for office workers and gamers who want a laptop-like typing feel without sacrificing desk aesthetics. That said, Reddit threads are peppered with recurring complaints about wireless reliability, a noticeable wake-from-sleep delay, RGB buzzing noise, and Synapse software headaches. Most users who stick with it long-term find workarounds, but many others return it or swap to Logitech alternatives. The TKL version seems to be the sweet spot for those who do love it.

Pros

  • Hot-swappable optical switches let users replace the stock reds with Keychron bananas, browns, or mint greens for a completely different feel without voiding anything
  • Slim low-profile design eliminates the need for a wrist rest and makes the board highly portable — BT 5.0 enables easy switching between a PC and tablet or laptop
  • Dedicated media keys and volume wheel on the TKL model are widely praised as genuinely useful daily-driver features
  • Multi-device Bluetooth pairing works reliably for users in all-Razer ecosystems, with seamless switching between paired devices
  • Keycap coating holds up well for many owners and the uniform per-key RGB lighting is consistently called one of the board's strongest visual points
  • Users coming from the Logitech G915 or G815 often prefer the typing feel and find this a meaningful upgrade in switch quality

Cons

  • 2.4GHz wireless connectivity is a known weak point — multiple users report constant disconnects unless the USB dongle is placed very close to the keyboard (often requiring the included extension cable)
  • Wake-from-sleep delay causes the first one to three keystrokes to be dropped, a persistent issue even after firmware updates that competitors like the G915 handle cleanly
  • RGB lighting produces an audible buzzing noise at any brightness level — the only fix is turning RGB off entirely, a dealbreaker for a keyboard that heavily markets its Chroma lighting
  • Battery life falls significantly short of advertised figures — at 60% brightness users report roughly 24 hours per week of mixed BT/2.4GHz use, while at 10% brightness the real-world total lands around 30–35 hours
  • Synapse software reliability is a recurring sore spot: crashes in Chroma Studio, lighting desync, dongle pairing conflicts, and hours of troubleshooting are commonly reported
  • Third-party keycap compatibility is limited — spacebar, shift, and enter keys often don't fit standard low-profile aftermarket caps, restricting customization options

The RGB Buzz Nobody Warns You About

One of the most consistent complaints across long-term owners is an audible buzzing or coil whine from the RGB backlight. It's present at any brightness level and the only reliable fix Reddit has found is turning the lighting off completely — not ideal for a keyboard sold on its Chroma ecosystem.

Great Board, Wrong Ecosystem Tax

Users in a mixed-wireless setup (non-Razer headsets, Bluetooth dongles, phones nearby) frequently report interference-driven dropouts. Those running exclusively Razer HyperSpeed gear report zero issues. Whether that tradeoff is worth it depends entirely on how deep you are in the Razer ecosystem already.

Hot-Swap Saves It for the Switch Curious

A surprisingly large portion of satisfied owners aren't using the stock switches at all. Swapping to Keychron banana, brown, or mint green low-profile switches is a common mod that Reddit broadly agrees transforms the board — making hot-swap support arguably the keyboard's most underrated feature.

The switches are hot swappable, so you can get some clicky ones if you want. There are also low profile key caps that work with it.

I got this second hand about a month ago for ~$50 (insane price you'd think) and i genuinely would not pay a cent more for it. Synapse is riddled with issues, the dongle connector straight up doesn't work so i needed to pair it through the connector im using for my basilisk v3, the linear switches it came with are horrible (i swapped them for keychron bananas and it's much better now).

Love the build quality, love the key travel, love the light quality of the LEDs. It's not the quietest keyboard but not the loudest either. Unfortunately the lights switch off for no good reason a few times a day. The issue appears to be software, because it wasn't like this in the beginning, but it has been like this for about 3 months now.

It's unfortunate you had such a bad experience with this keyboard seeing as I've been enjoying it thoroughly. I think this is Razer's best keyboard — excluding maybe the Huntsman Mini, but definitely the best wireless one. Buzzing sound seems really strange, you should get that RMA'd, but I have the TKL so maybe things differ. Sensitive keys seems like more of an issue with the choice of board and activities you partake in.

Just switch those with any of the Gateron low profile switches. Swapped mine from red to banana which is still quite quiet since it's still linear but you feel it when you accidentally press any key.

I also got the Deathstalker V2 Pro TKL since yesterday, and I also really like it.

The Deathstalker is better than the G815. I'd take a look at the G515 that just came out instead. I actually ordered one. Only thing it lacks is the dedicated media keys which I can live without but you get double shot pbt caps, low profile, 75%, best wireless connectivity in its class, usb c charging.

I have the mentioned keyboard for two months now. It has new linear Razer red opto-mechanical switches. They are really quiet and responsive. For now I have 0 issues but time will tell. The battery can last for 3 days of 12 hours of gaming.

I have both the Full Size and TKL. The battery life is okay, nothing to write home about but not terrible. Very hard to find keycaps that fit, even the razer phantom keycaps don't work. Aside from that I love them. They look great, feel great, and they work well for my office environment.

Pros: While I don't currently use a low-profile keyboard anymore, they're nice and easier to type with than normal keyboards and you can easily go without a wrist rest. It's hot swappable with optical low-profile switches. Media button and volume wheel are good. Fast typing — though the red linear switches are too light for some, you can swap them.

For what it's worth I returned the G915 (Logitech low profile) and then got the Deathstalker and think it's a way better product. Battery life is pretty bad but the Bluetooth capability with multiple devices is another pro.

Battery is decent. I have mine at 60% brightness and it's used between Bluetooth and games, I'd say around 24hrs a week, and it's still got juice by Sunday.

The regular V2 Pro is the best keyboard I've ever had.

I've been using it for more than half a year without any major problems. Yes, it goes into standby and if you rush the first 1–2 keys it doesn't register, but you get used to it, it is not a real problem. BT is working okish, but there is no control over the lighting in BT mode.

I actually like how light the actuation force is on the reds. This is the first keyboard I've ever had where I've actually forgotten that I was using it at all. By that, I mean that the keyboard just feels like an extension of my body. Until this thread, it's literally been months since I last noticed that I was using a Deathstalker.

I've been using it for roughly a year as well. I've found that I'm getting much less accidental presses with this keyboard than a traditional mechanical keyboard with red switches.

Get the wired one and all your problems are solved.

Your comment about the linear switches is why I'd want clicky ones, but for some reason the clicky model doesn't exist in the UK keyboard layout. That's absolutely stupid.

Is there any way to buy the purple switches and replace the red ones? I couldn't get the white version in purple switches, but want to try it.

I like everything about it besides the form factor (would prefer 75%), would like longer battery life (would take a thicker keyboard), and sometimes it's annoying having to double press keys on wakeup for it to register. Last issue is mostly down to it having optical switches, and I would say everything else about the keyboard is perfect.

I had all three keyboards here, now selling the Deathstalker after typing on the G515. I enjoy typing the most on G515 actually and it's still great for gaming.

Advice from someone that owned this keyboard: return it ASAP if still in your return window. This keyboard is hot trash. Does not properly wake up and when trying to type on it will always miss the first couple keypresses. Have done every firmware update possible and the thing was still a piece of trash. Got a G915X and it functions perfectly and wakes up like normal without missing keypresses.

I own one for more than a year now. Wireless is really iffy. Like you, I need the dongle to be close to the keyboard so I also use the extension cable. The connection constantly disconnects if I don't put it close to my keyboard. Currently the dongle is around 50cm away from my keyboard and I am not experiencing issues. Bluetooth connection and switching between 2.4ghz works fine — I use this keyboard between my Macbook and my PC and I don't have any problems switching.

Battery life on the Deathstalker V2 Pro is abysmal, it's probably 1/3 the battery of the G915. The parts where Deathstalker V2 did better was better keycaps and uniform keycap lighting. I find the Deathstalker volume wheel harder to use as it's too near the keycaps below it.

I had constant issues with the reds, so I bought some Mint Green switches from Keychron and they're nowhere near as quiet but feel really good — they're early bump tactile, so not as loud as clicky switches either. I can rest my fingers on the keys again! Consider the Banana switches too, those are a bit lighter than Mint Green.

About 5 days if intense use, 4-7 hours a day (I use 10% backlight brightness). Otherwise light use can last longer. If you turn the brightness down you can save a lot of battery.

Have had the Deathstalker V2 Pro purple/clicky for 2 months and wanted to share: this is my favorite keyboard ever, and I've had some other popular Razer ones. I've used the OG Huntsman, Huntsman Mini in clicky, Logitech G915, Blackwidow V3 Pro, and others. This keyboard feels better than any keyboard previous to it.

I love mine, personally. I historically have typed on laptop keyboards so the low profile feels familiar. The Clicky switches have an amazing feel to them that I love to type on. Depending on what you're used to, the clicking may feel like it slows you down a bit, and is pretty loud. But they have optical switches too.

I have this keyboard and prefer it to its low profile counterpart from Logitech, the G915. The typing experience is really good. Some keys might feel mushy but it doesn't bother me at all. It's not the quietest but also not the loudest. It works really nicely in my setup where I switch between a personal computer and a work laptop with the multi-device Bluetooth connectivity. When I play games I switch from Bluetooth to low-latency Wifi dongle (Hyperspeed).

Simple answer: No! Own 2, 2 dongles died, after 8 months one stopped loading. Just a bad joke, 10 times worse quality than anything from China.

This is what I have and I absolutely love it. I came from the standard Deathstalker V2 Pro which I also loved but wanted something smaller. Couldn't be happier.

How do you handle the switches being so sensitive? I'm absolutely in love with the features and aesthetics but it feels unusable as a keyboard because I constantly hit keys I didn't intend to — my pinky resting triggers the shift. I got Keychron black switches to up the actuation force but it's still extremely sensitive.

I've sworn off all gaming keyboards. Gaming software has been a necessary evil in the past, but nowadays we have web drivers as a serious alternative. Only VIA compatible keyboards for me now. Currently use a Nuphy — they do make low profile but there are a ton of other enthusiast keyboards to choose from.

I really hope these keycaps will last longer than the ones on my previous five G815 keyboards, which I had to RMA after 1-3 months because of color wear off of the keycaps.

I was thinking of getting one of these, as I've owned a Basilisk V3 since January and I'm happy with it, but your honest and detailed review has me reconsidering. On top of that, I use a MacBook. If these problems have already shown up on Windows, I can only imagine they might be even worse when my MacBook tries to interact with the Deathstalker.

Damn, I was looking at this one. I am trying to find a low profile keyboard because my BlackWidow is too tall and hurts my wrist over extended periods. I am torn between this and the G915 — the nuphy75 I like the look of but not sure about how good the latency is.

Thanks for the advice! And yeah, still within return policy. Literally arrived today but first impressions were so poor that I wanted to see if it was a 'me' problem or just a poor product. Going to return the keyboard — combined these issues are enough that they push me over the edge.
