Summary

The Acer Aspire 3 Spin 14 (2023) is a budget 2-in-1 convertible that Reddit broadly endorses for students and light office workers, while firmly rejecting it for anyone hoping to game. Running on Intel's i3-N305 or similar efficiency chips, it handles word processing, spreadsheets, video calls, and multi-tab browsing without complaint — users regularly describe it as a solid school machine at its price point. Build quality is serviceable: the all-plastic chassis feels sturdier than expected, hinge durability gets mixed marks, and the IPS display is a genuine bright spot for this price tier. The main recurring headaches are WiFi card reliability on some units and genuine confusion around stylus compatibility, since Acer's own documentation is inconsistent about which pens work. Overall community verdict: buy it knowing exactly what it is — a capable, inexpensive productivity machine — and you'll likely be satisfied.

Pros

  • The i3-N305 handles everyday workloads well — users report smooth performance across Office 365, Zoom, browser multitasking, and light Canva work without slowdowns
  • IPS display is a standout feature at this price range, offering vibrant colors and solid front-facing viewing quality compared to cheaper TN alternatives in the same budget
  • Charges via USB-C PD (up to 35W), giving users flexibility to ditch the barrel plug adapter and use existing phone/tablet chargers like Anker 65W bricks
  • 2-in-1 form factor works reliably for note-taking and tablet use — hinges are solid once locked into position and the touchscreen is responsive for annotation tasks
  • Confirmed Wacom AES 1.0 stylus support (Acer support confirmed this directly), meaning compatible third-party pens like the Precision Pen 2 2023 work correctly
  • RAM and SSD are user-upgradeable via an accessible door with a single screw, making it easy to bump to 16GB without full disassembly

Cons

  • WiFi reliability is a known issue on some units — one user reports the entire network adapter section disappearing every 2-3 days, requiring BIOS updates to restore connectivity
  • No gaming capability whatsoever: integrated graphics struggle with anything beyond light indie titles (Sims 4, older Steam games); users expecting 30+ FPS in modern titles will be disappointed
  • Stylus compatibility documentation from Acer is absent from official compatibility lists, forcing users to dig through support chats or Reddit threads just to find out which pen works
  • Battery life degrades noticeably with heavier workloads — users report dropping from 9-10 hours on light tasks to under 2 hours when gaming or running intensive apps
  • Build quality is fully plastic and shows its budget origins — the frame can creak under tablet-mode flexing, and some users report keyboard decals being dim or fading
  • For the price, better-specced alternatives exist: Ryzen 7320U laptops offer dual-channel RAM support and stronger integrated graphics at similar or slightly higher price points

Stylus Support Is a Scavenger Hunt

Acer doesn't list the Aspire 3 Spin 14 on its own stylus compatibility page, leaving buyers to contact support directly or comb Reddit just to confirm it uses Wacom AES 1.0. It works — but you'll have to figure that out yourself.

The Best Budget 2-in-1 You'll Outgrow If Your Needs Change

At its price, the Spin 14 punches above its weight for school and office work. But the single-channel RAM limitation, integrated-only graphics, and inconsistent WiFi cards mean it has a hard ceiling — anyone whose needs evolve will be shopping again sooner than expected.

Reddit Keeps Recommending It to the Wrong People

A surprising number of threads feature users asking if the Spin 14 can run Roblox, Genshin, or LoL. The answer is consistently no — but users who bought it strictly for productivity almost universally report satisfaction, which says something about how well it delivers on its actual purpose.

It isn't good for gaming. If you want for gaming buy gaming laptop.

Its good for basic tasks. Don't expect to be able to game though. The computer will have a very weak APU.

I was in urgent need of a spare laptop for work (teaching). Ended up impulse purchasing an Acer Aspire 14 Lite. Mostly because it was dirt cheap at the time. Intel Core i3 N300, 16GB of single channel RAM with a somewhat surprising WUXGA 14" IPS display. It took a couple of days to get used to the shortcomings of the "i3" but by the end of it and until now, it has been a very pleasant experience.

Thank you this is really helpful to me. You're pretty much the only review to appear on the i3 N300 in a laptop.

This I call a 'Chromebook on steroids'. Check ETA Prime channel on YT, there are some reviews on laptops.

The link you provided is for a device with 8GB of RAM which should be more than enough for browsing, video watching/streaming, working on documents, and having several Chrome tabs open at once. The main knock on it is the AMD Processor — as with any device it all depends on what you are looking for and what you expect to do with it.

Thanks for this review! I just got mine and saw it as an incredibly attractive deal for its price. I am a student in need of a simple daily driver for typing around documents — everything works fine for me even the low-power i3-N300.

Aspire Lite is considered to be a thin category with budget friendly pricing. The specs are far more better with a greater comparison with other brands — IPS WUXGA screen, Type C charge support, up-firing speakers, minimal gap makes it sturdy, DDR5 SODIMM RAM, camera shutter, and 3 USB ports.

Pros for me: Aesthetically pleasing, slim bezels, IPS panel, lightweight. Cons: No function key lock, no Acer Care Center support to switch from battery to direct power, i3 N300 is a bit lacking, WiFi is a bit slow.

The size of the game is irrelevant — this laptop doesn't have a gaming GPU, it can't run games with complex graphics. I got Sims 3 to run on it at 30fps just barely.

If anyone comes across this post while scraping the depth of the internet for a straight forward answer like I did, I ended up reaching out to ACER support and they said this: 'Regarding your inquiry about stylus compatibility with the Aspire A3SP14-31PT, this model supports active styluses using Wacom AES 1.0 technology.' So TDLR the A3S14 supports AES 1.0.

I am getting only 140 Mbps maximum from my >300Mbps Internet service. The max speed doesn't change after many hours all kinds of updates and changing network configuration or distance from the Internet gateway. Probably a bad AX101 WiFi 6 card that is hard to prove to Acer support. Besides dim white decals on the keyboard (no keyboard backlight in my model) and a legacy designed power adapter this is a good choice for a generic mobile laptop.

My 8 year old previous laptop had 200x better screen than this. And to add to that the network card/adapter is literally fucked. My wifi disappears every 2-3 days. And I don't mean it doesn't connect to internet, the whole section disappears + the bluetooth tab. And then I need to install new driver for the network card which works roughly 1 out of 10 times. The other 9 times I need to update the whole BIOS for it to start working properly just to disappear again.

I bought my Acer Aspire 3 from Costco last year. I bought it for school. It did a great job. Easy for word processing and spreadsheet calculations, it had a free MS office software that came with the computer. Great for going online for Youtube videos and even for watching movies. But is definitely not for gaming. Best $350 I spent.

I bought this from Walmart for $400, except it has an i5-1235U CPU, and it runs 30+ tabs of chrome, streams music, YouTube & Discord simultaneously without slowing down at all. It doesn't get too hot, and is lightweight with a good size display. The touch pad isn't the best, but it's large and works.

I am confident with the performance of it since I got this laptop second handedly (sadly the batteries were trash and I would run this laptop with a charger) still, it can run sims 4, 3 and 2 with ease after I upgraded my ram and hardrive to 12gb and 1TB, I got all the dlc's, a bunch of CC/MODS/Gshade. Played Alice Madness with it as well. Got some lag sometimes but manageable. Still surviving after 3 years since I got my hands on it.

I know this is old but in case anyone thinks about buying this laptop just don't — it's quite literally a POS. I have one sadly due to the fact that I am broke and can't afford anything better. I restart mine every single day constantly to get it to work barely. It sucks that bad. Yeah you can run certain games like the Sims 4 but don't expect it to not act up halfway through your playtime. It's just overall been the worst laptop I've ever had.

It can run games I would say released up until 2016 with mid-high graphics. I've played Witcher 3, Dying Light and Red Dead 1 on it with almost high settings no problems. Later releases, I really can't say because I never tried. I just estimated that it's probably 2016 high end PC level based on specs.

Unfortunately I had this laptop and the performance was hell. I don't think this computer is used for gaming, so it's not a gaming computer, it's a laptop for work only.

I have one so I'll say this — it's garbage. WiFi connection alone still uses up all your memory and CPU, not to mention it can't even run the basic of the basic like YouTube. It won't even run task manager.

I bought it and it is solid. Only downside is not the best battery life, but it lasts a whole day of classes so I guess it's alright.

By the way, PC World put this on a short list of good laptops for $400. They did try it for some Zoom staff meetings, and they said it ran quite well. They also tried stuff like Office 365 and ran Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook very well. They also ran Adobe Professional Acrobat.

I bought the Acer Aspire 15 with the Ryzen 5 7520U and 16GB of RAM. Performance-wise, it's pretty good; I use it for school and light gaming, and I get around 60–75 FPS in Fortnite on low settings. However, the build quality is horrible. The hinge broke once and the frame started coming apart, so I sent it in for repair. A few months later, the exact same thing happened.

I've got this laptop and had it now for about 5 years. It's not ideal for gaming but I've been able to play some older games on it without issues. Games like Halo (original), Lego Star Wars III, Star Wars Battlefront 2004/2005, and Star Wars Republic Commando run well. Bottom line — if it's for light/retro gaming and school work it can handle it.

This was my old school laptop and it had the same performance as my 8 year old laptop. And the fact that it was so expensive as well — $600 when I got it.

I bought it yesterday for uni school work, and it's amazing, but the battery seems to be quite short. I charged it 100% and played Overwatch and after an hour the battery was 10%.

I got the model variant with the Intel Ultra 5 and Arc graphics — it has been amazing. However I only use it for schoolwork since I have my PC at home. Good battery, good build quality and a touchscreen if you need it. I got mine for $499 from Costco. Do not buy this laptop if you want to play games — it can handle easier games but any intensive game will not be playable.

I've been using Acer Aspire for years. They provide superb value for day to day business tasks. Maybe not ideal for intense gaming though. It used to be they had great quality screen and quality speaker. I don't think that's true anymore.

If you want to experience how it feels like to have a computer with nonstop software errors and crashes, this is your pick. Had to manually fix issues with printing, language packs, downloading, etc within 2 months of buying.

Based on my experience I would not recommend any Acer Aspire laptop to be honest. I paid 900 euro for some Acer Aspire 5 which had the best specs compared to other laptops in that price range, but for some reason the performance is complete garbage. I can barely play games it's supposed to run easily and the overall performance varies from day to day.

Acer is good value, fast browsing. I video edit using Intel Quick Sync. Battery life 12-22 hrs. Stock Acer Apps is terribly slow — remove them.

I bought that computer yesterday with 4gb RAM, 64gb storage and 14 inch full HD display and the processor is the Athlon Silver 3050u. The storage and ram are upgradable. It comes with the Vega 2 GPU, so it's good with low setting games. I bought it to study and programming, so enough performance for my needs.

Don't buy this laptop. It won't be good for gaming due to its lack of a dedicated video card, and it will flop at even school tasks in this day and age. If you were to even try to run multiple tabs of Chrome you'd likely run into extreme performance dips.

I have the Acer Swift 14 Go which seems similar and maybe an early version, and so far after 2 years I think it's great. Thinking of getting this one and giving the one I have to my partner.
