Summary

The ASUS ProArt P16 H7606 (2024) is a creator-focused laptop that divides Reddit sharply — enthusiastic owners praise its stunning 4K OLED display, powerful AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 CPU, and premium build, while a vocal contingent reports serious reliability problems including BitLocker crashes, blue screens, and failed units within weeks of purchase. It targets video editors, architects, graphic designers, and other professionals who need raw CPU/GPU power in a portable form factor that looks presentable in client meetings. The laptop's quality control inconsistency is its biggest liability: some users run it flawlessly for months, while others get DOA units or face ASUS's widely criticized customer support. Those who land a good unit tend to love it; those who don't describe the support experience as a nightmare.

Pros

  • AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 outperforms Intel Ultra 9 in CPU-bound workloads like video export, 3D rendering, and content creation — users report dramatically faster export times versus previous machines
  • 4K 60Hz OLED touchscreen delivers exceptional color accuracy with deep blacks, making it well-suited for photo editing, color grading in DaVinci Resolve, and professional creative work
  • Up to 64GB DDR5 RAM with a second M.2 SSD slot allows heavy multitaskers and architects running Revit or Enscape to configure serious workstation-grade specs
  • Battery life in light workloads (browsing, light tasks on iGPU) reaches around 7 hours, competitive for a laptop with this level of performance
  • MUSETREE AI music generation tool is included without a subscription fee, a genuine bonus for audio-focused creators
  • Build quality feels premium to the majority of owners — slim aluminum chassis that's lighter than expected and more client-presentable than gaming alternatives

Cons

  • 60Hz display is a hard limitation for anyone wanting smooth gaming or motion clarity — the RTX 4070 can push far higher framerates that the panel simply cannot display
  • RTX 4070 is capped at only 8GB VRAM, which bottlenecks GPU-accelerated rendering workflows (e.g., V-Ray, high-poly scenes) and is a significant weakness at this price point
  • Glossy OLED panel acts like a mirror in lit environments — multiple creators describe it as unusable without a matte screen protector, a baffling choice for a laptop marketed at professionals
  • ASUS warranty and repair support is consistently described as a 'clown show' — slow RMAs, poor communication, and users forced to pay shipping on defective units under warranty
  • Reliability is a real concern: BitLocker boot failures, blue screens under load, screen flicker when switching between GPU modes, and DOA units appear frequently enough across Reddit to be a pattern, not just bad luck
  • USB-C power delivery was broken at launch (performing worse than battery-only mode) — a firmware fix arrived months later, but it highlights ASUS's software quality control issues

The BitLocker Lottery: Will Your P16 Boot Tomorrow?

Multiple Reddit owners across different countries report their P16 bricking itself with a BitLocker error within weeks of purchase, sometimes wiping all data. BIOS updates eventually addressed the TPM issue, but the experience shook confidence in a laptop that costs upward of $1,700.

Spec King, Support Pauper

On paper the ProArt P16 competes with MacBook Pro and ThinkPad P-series at a lower price. In practice, ASUS's after-sales support drags it down — users who needed warranty service describe month-long waits, international shipping costs out of pocket, and support reps who hadn't even read the complaint before responding.

Architects and Video Editors Who Got Lucky Are Obsessed With It

The users who got a stable unit — and there are many — describe it as a near-perfect machine for professional creative work. One owner running 30B LLMs locally via Ollama, another exporting 4K video faster than any previous laptop, another sold their M1 Max MacBook Pro and doesn't miss it. The ceiling is high; the floor is a risk.

It is nearly perfect, except for the glossy screen. For creators it is baffling they did this. Everything else is absolutely on point.

The Proart laptops are true sleepers. The P16 gen 1 was great and this looks so much better. I absolutely love the PX13.

I have a P16 as well. While I haven't had any issues with mine, I have read my number of horror stories and count myself lucky. It seems clear ASUS's quality control and support are not very good. Mine works fine, but it does feel a bit cheap in comparison to MacBook Pros or Lenovo laptops. The keyboard doesn't compare, IMO, to Apple or Lenovo keyboards. Trackpad stops feeling comfortable pretty quickly for me, whereas Apple trackpads I can work with indefinitely.

Just got my P16, 2tb, 64GB Ram - didn't even boot it. Opened it right up, cloned the 2tb drive onto a 4tb 990 pro and stuck another 4tb WD SN850x as the second drive. Booted okay, updated everything and the machine rocks. Sold my MacBook Pro M1 Max, 64Ram, 4TB, 16 inch and don't miss it. This thing is lighter, it's Windows and the screen is amazing even with 60hz. I don't think there's anything better out there save maybe an M4 Max fully spec'd but Windows is so much better than Mac OS.

I have the ProArt 16 model H7606, and it's a great laptop. When it comes to gaming, I use the Monduo 16 dual extended screen, which features 144Hz displays. There are no problems with gaming at all.

After multiple frustrating calls with the techs and management, I managed to get a full refund.

Both microcenter and bestbuy have the Proart for between 1700-1900 which is making buying this more tempting. My use will be similar — I need something for computational biochemistry and I game very rarely.

Had one, returned it. Really weird package IMO. Okay keyboard, terrible trackpad, okay display (PWM + 60Hz + screen door effect), 'pen' support but WPP, okay speakers, etc. Didn't like it at all, especially at the price they're selling it for.

Stories like these utterly kill a product. One can forgive a faulty unit, but not shitty support. I'd love to buy one of these, but the horror stories hold me back. Will likely buy a Lenovo.

Yo, I've had mine for a year, and it's amazing. Full package. This thing is a mac killer at half the price (spec for spec) and honestly as good or better build quality. Highly recommended.

Proart laptop is one of the worst laptops I've ever used. I'm a graphic designer and the amount of bugs/crashes is INSANE. Wish I never got it.

I have mine for about a month now, loving how light it is when commuting. Programs run well but there's a few little issues I came across. First week of using it I came across the blue screen of death but somehow it fixed itself. Every time I unplug and run on battery the screen flickers on and off. There's been a few times the laptop turned off and took awhile to turn back on.

Screen wobble is negligible. I don't tend to notice screen wobble in the first place, but it's absolutely not an issue. There are definitely issues with palm rejection — you will want to turn off the touchpad when you're typing.

I wouldn't buy anything from Asus until their warranty support is a lot better.

Feel: a premium, nice aluminum exterior, keyboard is nice, no issues with press depth or sound. The touchpad is nice and smooth and attracts finger grease a lot. Screen: minimal glare, but color accuracy seems to be an issue if sunlight hits it at any angle, you'll see a rainbow. The touch screen is nice, but I ended up disabling it. No wobble unless you're using the touch screen obviously.

It scares me how many negative reviews this P16 has received which put me off. They are everywhere!

Honestly, I'd say that every laptop is a matter of luck. Every one of them has these posts, making it seem like absolute trash, as well as whole communities loving the same laptop and never experiencing any issues.

No 4x4 second SSD (it's 4x2 so slower sequential read/write speeds if your workflow uses those a lot). Only VRR panel (will still be susceptible to tearing/hitching). 135w TGP is spec, not reality. Reviews are starting to come through saying even on manual mode they see the 5090 top out at 120w, so you're leaving 25% of the 5090's performance on the table.

A good looking, otherwise well-designed machine, but there is way too much keyboard backlight bleeding through the gaps under the keys.

This is the ultimate thin and light performance laptop for many. I personally could use a slightly lower resolution for gaming but that tandem OLED sure gets really bright.

Such a tough question. Truly a love/hate situation. The laptop is EXACTLY 87.3% PERFECT. The parts that are imperfect are so bad I want to throw it out the window. Build quality is great, amount and type of ports are great, but the glossy screen for a creator laptop is inexcusable.

Being on USB-C power functions worse than if you are on battery. The USB-C charging, in my opinion, is for emergencies only. There was a USB-C Firmware Update around 1/22/2025 that appears to have fixed the USB-C poor performance vs. just being on battery.

I had a MacBook Pro that I bought for uni back in 2021. Difference is night and day. My biggest transition was honestly switching from MacBook to Windows full time and finding new programs to use. No regrets though, and I've been loving the transition.

I'm a professional designer and glossy screens are not color accurate. The most expensive color accurate pro level displays are usually matte. The ProArt P16 is an OK creator laptop at best and the 4070's 8gb of vram, the 32gb max of soldered RAM, a 60hz screen, and Asus's terrible warranty support/customer service at this price point are a joke.

Had mine P16 for a year. Three times it was in service for repair. First time it overheated and went to the blue screen. Second time the speakers died. Third time the screen. After arguing for two months with the support I finally got my refund. Very disappointing. Now looking for something similar in power but from another producer. Most of the times used it with DaVinci and Photoshop.

I just got mine 6 days ago and it has been the worst laptop ever. It's slower than my 3 year old Mac Pro M2 and it is just crashing all the time. I spent days trying to configure but finally I am going to return it. This was the worst experience I've had with a laptop ever.

Hands down best notebook going around, especially for video editing, gaming and production with almost perfect RGB for colour grading on film and photos. I use it as my main machine for film work, gaming, multi-tasking, music editing and general but larger office work. I'm either using the OLED screen or both with a 52K UHD monitor. I upgraded first thing to 64gb ram and added a 2TB M.2 card.

This laptop is a hot stack of GARBAGE. Wifi is only useable when plugged in. Run on battery and wifi slows to the point that browsing and streaming are impossible. Teams Video randomly turns into cartoon quality. Microphone intermittently cuts out to where voice chat is not possible. Well specced laptop burdened by completely ineffective software/bloatware stacked in multiple layers all fighting themselves resulting in a waste of time.

You should avoid this computer at all cost. It seems good but has a significant flaw. It constantly switches between its GPUs causing the screen to flicker black. It happens all the time and there doesn't appear to be anything you can do to fix it. I've updated everything and adjusted settings but it still does it. It is incredibly annoying. This is a very common occurrence with this laptop.

Really should have had a low power 4080/4090 option. 8GB VRAM max ain't it for what it is.

I've only seen it get loud during intense gaming sessions and multiple projects running simultaneously. For most of my work it's near silent. My friend uses my laptop for producing beats and rapping and he loves it.

It has still been pretty great. I haven't had any of the issues a lot of people have been posting about. It has decent battery life for the amount of power it has, especially for just regular YouTube and browsing in whisper mode. No problems with video editing, SketchUp, Photoshop, really anything I've thrown at it so far. The only thing that is kind of annoying is it takes a little while to boot up.

Got 32 of them out in the field. 2 had issues, including 1 DOA. The other had a screen that died, was within return period so just swapped it. 2024 and 2025 models. 2025 seems to perform better.

I wish it had a matte screen option, this would have definitely made me consider it for my next machine. At present, I am drawn towards the Thinkpad P1 for fulfilling the same functions.

When the fans turn on, they are very loud compared to most other laptops I've had. That said, I've mostly ever heard them turn on full speed when my son plays video games on my laptop. There is some talk about the noise. Please keep in mind this laptop has 3 fans in it.

I received it yesterday and updated all of the drivers, software etc. Once I finished, I closed the lid and it went to sleep. Today I opened it up but could not receive any feedback from the PC, although some of the lights on the back were on. It's really well made in terms of hardware but there are lots of issues related with software which you can't overcome as far as I understand.

I do not recommend this laptop. Had two versions of it. The material is of low quality, especially for the rear lid — it is a very cheap and delicate plastic. The opening mechanism of the lid is of bad quality: if opening it too rapidly, one may easily damage it. The first unit had a swollen battery. Got an exchange in over 1 month (much worse than with Dell or Microsoft). The second one also had a hardware issue: one of the fans got stuck when rotating and emitted a loud ugly noise.
