Summary

The ASUS TUF Dash F15 (2022) earns mostly positive sentiment on Reddit, particularly among users who prioritize portability and value over raw power. The 2022 refresh fixed the biggest complaints of older TUF Dash models — it now includes a MUX switch, 12th-gen Intel CPU, DDR5 RAM, Thunderbolt 4, and improved thermals compared to 2020/2021 variants. It targets students, casual-to-moderate gamers, and users who want a gaming laptop that doesn't scream 'gamer' in the office. The main trade-offs are a dim 144Hz IPS screen with poor color gamut (45% NTSC), thermal noise under sustained load, and a slightly throttled GPU TGP compared to beefier non-Dash TUF models.

Pros

  • MUX switch included in 2022 model — a major upgrade over 2021 that directly boosts GPU performance by bypassing the iGPU
  • DDR5 4800MHz RAM and Thunderbolt 4 at this price tier were standout features in 2022, giving an edge in multitasking and external device bandwidth
  • Slim, clean chassis design passes as a business laptop — multiple users noted no one guessed it was a gaming machine in professional settings
  • RTX 3060 (105W) and RTX 3070 configurations handle AAA gaming at 1080p Ultra settings well — users reported 80-100+ FPS in Spider-Man, Far Cry 6, and Valorant
  • 76Whr battery is large for a gaming laptop of this size — one of the biggest in its class, praised for decent all-day use
  • Thermals improved significantly over 2020/2021 — under-load temps typically 70-85°C with a cooling pad, and the 2022 model uses Intel WiFi 6 instead of the problematic MediaTek card found in older TUF units

Cons

  • 144Hz IPS panel covers only ~45% NTSC / 64% sRGB — noticeably dim and washed out compared to the 165Hz (100% DCI-P3) or 300Hz (100% sRGB) variants which are hard to find in many regions
  • GPU TGP is capped at 105W (RTX 3060 config) vs. 130-140W in full-size TUF Gaming or Legion 5 competitors — measurable performance gap in sustained GPU workloads
  • Power button failures reported after 12-24 months of use on some units — a known hardware issue across parts of the TUF Dash lineup
  • Fans get loud under sustained gaming load — users with the 3060/3070 configs reported fan noise at 50dB+ in turbo mode
  • Opening the chassis risks cracking the plastic hinge assembly — the screws holding the case together also anchor the hinges, so SSD/RAM upgrades carry real risk of damage
  • Only 8GB RAM in base i5 configurations — DDR5 is fast but half the capacity of competing budget laptops like the HP Victus which ships with 16GB

The Power Button Problem Nobody Talks About

Several users flagged that TUF Dash F15 power buttons start failing between 12 and 24 months of use — a hardware defect that requires a full keyboard assembly replacement and could be a dealbreaker for out-of-warranty buyers.

A Gaming Laptop That Doesn't Look Like One

The Dash F15's clean, minimal design is a genuine selling point — multiple Reddit owners said coworkers and classmates mistook it for an office laptop, making it one of the rare gaming laptops that doesn't embarrass you in a meeting room.

The Screen Is the Weakest Link — And You Can Work Around It

The base 144Hz panel's poor color accuracy frustrates content creators and enthusiasts, but owners consistently recommend pairing it with a budget external monitor to unlock the full value of the otherwise strong hardware package.

That's usually $1,500 without any discounts. You got the 3070 version for the usual price of the 3060 version. Great buy man.

If you want to keep it at a long life then buy a cooling stand.

Till now it's amazing — the fans, the heat, all good on heavy AAA games with maxed settings. The battery is fine. The design is neat and solid. Super easy to carry and travel with. It's handling almost everything I throw at it.

Definitely a good choice, particularly if you're after a thinner, lighter laptop.

Asus TUF series is trash — many in this sub have had issues with those laptops.

It's a good laptop that will perform well for 1080p gaming — a 3060 with 130w tgp is better of course, but if it blows your budget then this one is perfectly good to buy.

Could it be that you tested the shitty TUF Dash or the 2020 version of TUF laptops? Their 2021 TUF Gaming line (A/F15) has been relatively good so far.

I concur — the newer models aren't as bad as the 2020 ones.

The laptop is a good laptop but does need thermal paste/pad mods. After doing that it boosts a little more and runs very well — nice and quiet almost always.

I bought an Asus TUF laptop at 99k last month — Ryzen 5900hx, RTX 3060 95W, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe, 144Hz display. Overall I'm very satisfied with it and see no problems yet.

I was surprised that the Dash wasn't much lower weight than the full F15. The power adapter does make a big difference, and the lower wattage means the same video card is not gonna perform as well on the Dash as the full sized version. That said, depending on your needs they seem to be very good laptops.

It's the best looking TUF laptop to me. Specs are great too. Have heard some temp complaints but if you keep it elevated and clean it should be fine.

The 2022 model is a huge improvement. High quality screens, MUX switch, 140W GPU, etc. They are genuinely good buys now.

Based on the specs of this year's models I find it could be the best budget gaming laptop of the year. It has a good (enough) screen, 2 USB-C ports, RTX 3070, 12th gen Intel CPU. Paired with a good gaming monitor and headphones and you're pretty much set.

Specs look sweet. 3070 with 8GB VRAM and a MUX switch sounds awesome. 1TB SSD is good, 16GB RAM is fine, 144Hz sounds really good.

Yes it's still worth it. I own the same laptop and am happy with it. You should go with it. Keep in mind thermals are okay okay on this due to its slim body.

For what purpose you wanna buy it for? If for gaming then 105W 3060 is good in 2022, but not future proof. You can get full TGP 3060 in same price range.

It's basically a budget Zephyrus. Thin and powerful, you'd definitely get a good experience with it.

I have this laptop, different specs though (i5 11400h RTX 3050). Overall a good laptop, haven't had many issues with mine so far, only a hinge issue which is common apparently, doesn't affect use. Temps on mine is alright, on idle it will get 40c, but under load, 70-80c.

There are different Asus TUF laptops. TUF Dash and TUF Gaming have different chassis and components. I have an Asus TUF Dash F15 with 3060 (80W TDP) and i5, and I can recommend this to others but with a better CPU.

I'm more interested in the Dash F15 — way more portable. I feel the 105W RTX 3060 is enough and the i7-12650H is a solid processor for the form factor.

I've had mine for a week now, gaming is great overall. CPU is running at 95°C with Warzone though.

Very new to PC gaming myself, but from what I've learned in the past couple months that's a solid rig. I actually just got the TUF Gaming A17 and mine runs solid — your specs are higher tier than mine.

If you do get it try to look for a model with the 165hz (best for color accuracy) or 300hz (fastest refresh rate) screen as they both are better color accurate and better quality screens than the 144hz model.

It's a good laptop but does need thermal paste/pad mods with KPX or whatever that junk was on it for thermal pads. After you do that it boosts a little more and is very good, nice and quiet almost always at 0db unless multiple 4k YouTube videos. The screen is good could be a little brighter. I refer to the 2022 model of the Dash 15 as they do everything with a decent battery and are quiet.

The TUFs are ASUS's budget gaming line. They generally have last-gen screens, reduced sized batteries, lower-end nvmes, RAM, WiFi cards, and less concern with fit and finish. However, that doesn't exactly make them a bad buy. Compared to other budget contenders they typically are better.

As a TUF owner I agree — it's highly suggested to replace the WiFi card with a proper one from Intel and let go of all the headaches related to wireless connection.

Don't buy simply. These are some reasons not to buy: 1. Bad thermals. 2. Display is also 45% NTSC. 3. Build quality is also average — I have one so I can confirm.

I am owning an FX517ZC for 2 months now and I have to say it is great so far. I bought it mainly because it could be charged via USB-C, and the battery is quite decent. In my country it is the best for a buck — 76Whr battery can't be found in any competing model.

I have the 3060 but my friend recently got the F15 with 3050Ti and honestly it's doing pretty great, you should go for it.

Some 2022 TUFs have issues with their power buttons that start failing after 12-24 months, so expect to have to send it in for repair at some point if new, or if used expect to have a lot of headaches to source a replacement keyboard assembly and someone to tear down the laptop to install it.

I've used this exact one for the past 2/3 years now. I use it for my schoolwork, which is fine. But the battery sucks now because I've also used it for gaming during the past 2 years. And it gets VERY hot. I don't do any intense gaming, I only play the sims with all the dlc on the ultra settings, so for that it's a great laptop.

I have the 2022 tuf dash f15. I use it everyday for normal use. I do program on it. If you are a normal gamer (not extreme) it is a great laptop. The only thing that is not a negative but a distraction is that when you are gaming and the CPU is getting hot the fans can be fairly loud. However, I have never overheated and am happy it can keep the heat down.

Only for light gaming. 4gb of vram can't run modern games at all.

Do not open it. The screws are terrible. My issue is the case screws are also the screws that hold the hinge in place, and then the plastic holding the metal screw points cracks easily. Then you have a hinge issue because you just wanted to change the SSD. Also the SSD in the 12650H/3060 version was terrible.

Unfortunately it's the crappy 64% sRGB 144hz screen. I haven't been able to find the 300Hz 100% sRGB screen or the 165hz 100% DCI-P3 screen — just not available in my region. The screen is a compromise.

My glaring concern is the allegedly common issue of the network card having problems. I'm seeing lots of feedback from users having intermittent/unreliable WiFi switching on and off, leading to the cleaning or outright replacement of the network card. I want to like it more but I'm hesitant because of that issue.

I have the 2022 A15 and am very happy with it. I think the F15 is very similar, so I would say go for it. Nice screen, MUX switch, decent build quality, and thermals in the 2022 model are better than 2020 and 2021 models which had issues.

Never try to update your GPU driver outside of ASUS support, because Windows GPU updates or Nvidia updates might not be suitable — I got a lot of issues dealing with this from crashes to freezes. Just update from ASUS.

Better to get the 2023 Gaming variants. I don't think they even released a 2023 Dash lineup.
