Summary

The ASUS Vivobook S 16 Flip TP3604 is a 2-in-1 laptop that earns consistent praise for its OLED display and 2-in-1 flip versatility, but divides users sharply on battery life and thermal performance. It's well-suited for students and productivity users doing schoolwork, light coding, and content consumption, especially when near an outlet. The Ryzen-based variants tend to run cooler and more efficiently, while the higher-end Intel Ultra 9 models attract the most complaints about overheating. Reddit users generally rate it as a solid value pick when found on sale, but caution against expecting all-day unplugged use.

Pros

  • OLED display is consistently praised — the 3.2K 120Hz panel offers vivid colors and sharp detail that users describe as 'gorgeous' even compared to pricier alternatives
  • Ryzen 7 7730U variants deliver strong multi-threaded performance with noticeably better thermal management than Intel counterparts, staying usable without constant fan noise
  • Fast charging and ASUS battery care mode (80% charge limit) help extend long-term battery health for students who keep it plugged in most of the time
  • Flip form factor with MPP 2.0 stylus support works well for note-taking — any MPP 2.0 pen (Metapen M2, Renaisser, Lenovo Precision Pen 2) is compatible at various price points
  • Build quality and performance feel responsive for everyday tasks like presentations, spreadsheets, and light creative work at a price point that's hard to beat during sales
  • Speakers and display combination make it a genuinely good media consumption machine for students watching lectures or content

Cons

  • Battery life is the most polarizing issue — Intel OLED variants frequently report only 1.5 to 2.5 hours under real workloads like VS Code or PowerPoint, far below the 6-10 hours marketed
  • Intel Ultra 9 model overheats severely even in thin chassis — one owner noted idle temps of 55-60°C because the default fan curves don't spin up fans at idle, requiring third-party tools like AsusFanControlEnhanced to fix
  • RAM is soldered at 16GB with no official upgrade path, a real concern for users running memory-heavy workloads like data analysis, CAD (SolidWorks), or virtualization
  • Stylus experience disappoints digital artists — palm rejection is inconsistent compared to iPad or Samsung, and third-party pens like Renaisser develop ghosting issues within months
  • Some users report chassis flex on thin lecture hall tables and keyboard deck denting under normal typing pressure on newer variants, raising durability concerns over time
  • Windows sleep mode drains battery significantly overnight (reported at ~15% per night), which is a platform-level issue but compounds the already weak battery story

The Battery Life Gap Is Real

YouTube reviewers and real owners tell completely different stories. While benchmarks show 6-10 hours, Intel OLED owners consistently report under 2.5 hours on actual workloads — VS Code, PowerPoint, or even basic browsing. The Ryzen variants fare better, but this laptop is best treated as a plugged-in machine.

Great Deal on Sale, Harder to Justify at Full Price

Reddit consensus is clear: this laptop shines when heavily discounted (Black Friday, Costco deals) but faces stiff competition at MSRP from AMD-focused laptops with better power efficiency. The OLED display and flip hinge are standout features, but value evaporates if battery life matters for your use case.

Artists Are Disappointed, Students Are Happy

The flip touchscreen and MPP 2.0 stylus support sound great for digital art, but working artists report palm rejection issues and pen ghosting after months of use. Students using it for handwritten notes find it adequate. If you're buying primarily for illustration or design work, expectations need serious calibration.

It's a great laptop overall. Battery life isn't the greatest but if you are a uni student, you have access to a plug-in in most cases. The built in graphics handles video contents without a hitch, even in dual screen setups. Good enough gaming power for League, Overwatch, etc on low settings. Still looks great on that gorgeous OLED at 2k. My only gripe, and its a big flaw, is that it runs very hot. Mine is the ultra 9 model so I am not sure how the ultra 5 model is.

It's not a gaming laptop by any means. I actually don't like this laptop and would return it if I could. The Ultra 9 has NO BUSINESS being in this thin laptop with inadequate cooling. It runs so so hot, even with the fans running on full blast (very noisy). I really can't recommend it.

Don't have that exact model but it's unlikely lots of people are getting defective units if the battery lasts only 3 hours. It's more likely a difference in how people use it. I have a very similar laptop with the AMD Ryzen 7 7730U in it and no way am I getting 10 hours of light usage. I think realistically 3 to 6 hours of battery depending on how you use it.

Any gaming will be hugely power demanding and should really be done with the laptop plugged in. I do recall watching Netflix for a good 5 or 6 hours without it being plugged in one time and it still had battery left after that. But that was with brightness at low as it was night time in a dark room.

Any MPP 2.0 pen works with the Vivobook S 16 Flip.

Yeah I haven't updated this in a very long time. I've also pretty much stopped using my Renaisser pen after like 6 months in. It started randomly ghosting and the only thing that seems to fix it is to wait. Restarting the pen and reseating the tip doesn't work either. This error can last up to hours at times, which made it extra annoying when I'm trying to take notes in class.

I have the i9 version. I had to change the wifi card because it wasn't supported in the kernel roughly a year ago. OLED rules.

Hi, I've got for last christmas in 2023 the one with Ryzen 7 7730U with 16gb ram and it's really a good laptop, so far i love it. It is fast, the battery life is really good (4-6 hours still after a year of use). It has a fast charge and the Asus app has a battery care mode that wont allow it to charge beyond 80 percent. I can play games on it too, the Ryzen CPU is really powerful. I'm really happy with it. I'm using it mainly for schoolwork. It has great speakers and display too.

I have OLED Vivobook S16, Ultra 9, Intel Evo, 16GB Ram, 1TB. Overall my experience with this is alright, very lovely OLED Display. I mainly use it for School Solidworks CAD program, watch videos and also a few games. There is a bit of problem with solidworks which is when I move my mouse to my 3d drawing part, it retraces the edges and holes for a few seconds, not instantly like other devices which affected my efficiency in working with this software.

I have had it for a few days, haven't gotten to use it fully yet cause work but I am blown away. Build quality feels really good and screen looks amazing. Touch response is pretty decent. The number pad is kind of cramped but doable. Typing feels pretty good, not the best I felt but I'm surely happy. It's so responsive and fast.

I've bought the Vivobook 16 flip TP3607SH (the one which has RTX 5050 and Ultra 7 258V). The hardware is awesome, but the build quality? Yeah... that's a different story. I'm worried my chassis will break over time if I keep putting my Vivobook on the flimsy lecture hall tables, where you can see the top of the chassis actually bend. Another thing that concerns me is that as I'm typing, I'm denting the keyboard. I'm not even a hardcore typer, yet it feels like I was using a hammer.

I just bought this from Costco and will have it in 2 days. Is there a lot of bloatware installed? I usually wipe the drive and install a clean iso from Microsoft.

Eh not as much as the ASUS gaming laptops but still I would recommend doing a bloatware clean.

I just bought one. If you're watching YouTube or doing video playback I get 8.5 hours SOT on battery saver. But it charges fast.

If you're just reading its 10 hours SOT, If you're using excel it's under 8 hours. If you're watching movies like Netflix it's 5.5 hours. If you're gaming (PUBG) 3 hours. So basically for an avg person you'll get 6 hours of SOT. For a good battery life would be like 8 hours for Netflix, 12 hours for excel and 20 hours for reading.

My ASUS Vivobook S16 Flip is model TP3604V. Despite the glowing comments about battery life, at full charge it indicates it will last 3 hours. Overnight in sleep mode (no programs running, no windows open, no background programs except what came on the machine) will drop the power by 15%. It's almost a charge daily laptop and if you're actually using it (for me, it was simple word processing) be certain to have the power cord with you!

The battery life on Vivobook 16X OLED (at least with Intel) is a fuckin' joke. I bought it as a travel workstation, but this laptop can barely survive 2-2.5 hours in a PowerPoint at 75% brightness. If I run any kind of even light workload (VS Code, VMWare, Fusion360) it dies about 1.25-1.5 hours!! ONE AND A HALF hours! My old Lenovo Thinkpad with the beaten down old battery that I hadn't replaced at least six years had a battery life of about 4 hours at the same workload!

I'm having the same issues, I don't have the oled version but this one lasts 2h tops at minimum brightness and power saving mode on, just running some web browsing and WhatsApp or discord, can't even consider running vscode without a power source, it's insanely annoying. It's going down 10% every 10 mins even if I don't touch it.

Same - about 1% per minute, give or take. I'll try to reinstall a fresh version of Win11 once I'll have a free afternoon to see maybe some driver update will fix this. But overall I have a feeling that power management and battery on this laptop simply sucks and there is no way around it. It's a shame because otherwise this laptop is quite nice - good performance, gorgeous screen, but battery life just kills any practical use case in field.

Thank you so much. Confirmed to be working with a 2024 Asus Vivobook S 16. The default fan curves, even when put on performance mode or full mode, still does nothing for idle fan speeds. My Core Ultra 9 185H was idling at 55-60C because the fans were completely off. IMO that is a HOT idle temp. Now it runs at or around 50C which is much better.

I also just got myself a Vivobook 16S Flip, and I got the Renaisser Raphael Slim, and it seems to do me fine. Not much of an artist though, so my opinion only stems from writing and dumb doodles. Other options I see get mentioned a lot is basically any other Renaisser pens, Metapen M2 and M3, the Lenovo Precision Pen 2.

Palm rejection is definitely not as good as say on an iPad or a Samsung, but as long as your pen is hovering close enough to the screen, it will automatically cancel any input from your skin.

As an artist wanted to give my update, this was the only info I could find about getting a pen for the computer. I got the Renaisser stylus for Microsoft 10&11 (1024 pen pressure) and its trash. Ok maybe not trash, but there is a lot wrong with it. There isn't proper settings to adjust the pen on the flip 16, I had to fiddle with them forever to get the pen to stop drawing when it was hovering an inch away.
