Summary

The Dell 14 Plus 2-in-1 (2025) is a mainstream convertible laptop that has gained traction among students and light business users looking for a capable, affordable 2-in-1. Reddit sentiment is generally positive on value — particularly the AMD Ryzen AI 7 350 configuration which can be found for under $700 — though some users feel the Intel SKUs are overpriced for what they offer. The device handles everyday productivity, light creative work, and casual use well, but thermal management is a recurring complaint: it runs hot under load and fans kick in frequently, especially in the first days of use due to Windows background processes. Long-term reliability concerns push some users toward Lenovo alternatives, and the soldered RAM is a dealbreaker for upgrade-minded buyers.

Pros

  • AMD Ryzen AI 7 350 (Krackan Point, 8-core Zen 5/5c) delivers strong performance per watt — one user noted it scored higher on battery than an Intel 125H plugged in
  • Solid value at ~$687–$699 for the 16GB/1TB AMD configuration, which undercuts competitors offering the same CPU with less storage
  • 2.5K IPS display is a step up from older budget Dell screens and praised for brightness and clarity in everyday use
  • Battery life is competitive in low-power mode, with users reporting 6–7 hours of light use and 4–5 hours under heavier workloads
  • Handles multitasking with 15+ browser tabs, light CAD, video editing, and photo work without major issues according to real-world users
  • Business-oriented build quality appreciated by IT buyers deploying multiple units — solid chassis feel with good port selection

Cons

  • Thermals are a real issue: the laptop heats up fast under load, especially on soft surfaces that block intake vents, and fans run almost constantly in the first days of setup
  • Soldered RAM means no upgrade path — buyers are stuck with whatever configuration they order, which matters long-term
  • Intel SKU pricing at $850+ was called out as weak value compared to the AMD model; some users feel the Plus branding doesn't justify the premium over base models
  • Reliability perception lags behind Lenovo — multiple users in comparison threads defaulted to Yoga 7 over Dell for build longevity, citing hinge and durability concerns
  • Linux support is poor: touch-function keys work but webcam and audio issues persist on recent kernels, making it a risky pick for Linux users
  • Some IT buyers noted AMD still feels like a second-class citizen in Dell's lineup — perceived as getting inferior thermal solutions and chassis materials compared to Intel SKUs

Fans Running Nonstop? Here's What Reddit Says

New owners frequently panic about constant fan noise out of the box. Reddit veterans explain it's mostly Windows background indexing — and a BIOS boost tweak or Dell Optimizer cooling profile usually fixes it within a few days.

The AMD Version Is the One Worth Buying

Reddit consistently points to the Ryzen AI 7 350 config as the sweet spot: more storage, lower price, and better performance-per-watt than the Intel counterpart. The Intel SKU gets called out for weak specs at its price point.

Linux Users: Look Elsewhere

At least one confirmed Linux user reports webcam and audio don't work on NixOS with the latest kernel, and general Linux support is described as poor. It's a Copilot+ Windows machine through and through.

It will be a win for AMD when the new XPS has Ryzen and more importantly chassis & feature parity with Intel.

That's a weak spec for $850

Being in Dell's mainstream business line is a bigger win for AMD than the XPS because Dell sells more of these.

The AMD Ryzen AI 7 350 is a powerful mobile processor from the Krackan Point family. The APU integrates 8 CPU cores (4x Zen 5 with up to 5 GHz and 4x Zen 5c with less cache and a maximum of 3.5 GHz) and a big 16 MB L3-Cache.

The AMD variant is worse than the Intel variants in every way according to their own review.

Strix point CPUs have more performance per watt than those conventional H SKUs from Intel

Got the prior gen Yoga 7 & quite pleased, good build. New gen like this has nicer OLED panel, a dream.

Been deploying these since they launched mid last year. Performance is great, build quality, battery life also great too. Drivers were iffy from Dell's part the first few months, but they've figured it out.

Like with all business devices, no one pays list, they'll be on a 3-5 year lease that has a volume discount.

If it is a newly setup system there is a chance Windows is doing lots of background tasks. I would still advise to use Dell's Software to update your Bios and all Drivers.

Just bought 2 of the 16" plus models for my boss and sys admin. My boss seems to like his so far and I liked the solid feel of the chassis but feel like they skimped on a plastic bottom panel.

It's a Plus (not the most basic version) and still it's a straight downgrade from the last gen Inspiron in almost every way. Fascinating.

Assuming Dell has not removed it, Boost can be disabled in the BIOS.

Touch-functions work, using Jack with audio & webcam don't work for me. I'm using latest kernel on NixOS. I would say Linux support is very poor.

As someone who regularly sees and tests all kinds of laptops, the Precisions/Pros with the large trackpad feel the best to use because of that huge space. I don't miss the physical left, right and center buttons at all.

Going AMD now and their Ryzen 5 220 on battery scored higher than my 125H plugged in.

4-5 hours intensive use (max light, high ram/cpu usage) 6-7 hours light use (energy saver mode + just browsing/listening to music.) Thermals leave much to be desired; be sure to enable 'cooling' on the provided 'dell optimizer' application so you don't burn your lap — otherwise, it just heats up and throttles cpu speeds.

That is what I was looking for - with this processor and this laptop size one could expect the thermals will be an issue as it is often the case

It's probably Windows background tasks. My latest laptop was basically a hot plate the first day I got it. Next day it runs at basically room temperature and silently.

Avoid HP consumer line due to hinge issues. If you want Dell for creators, go with a refurbished Dell XPS 13 9350 with Intel Lunar Lake CPU. Higher refresh rate.

I use 2/3 browsers at once with 10/15+ tabs open at a time. About battery I think it's okay, not best but you can't even say it's bad. It's all actually depends on how much you spend. If you get it below 1k euro, it's a solid piece.

When you use it on the bed, or any soft surface, you block the intake vents causing the fans not to be able to cool the laptop. Do this often enough, and you will damage the fans themselves. Every laptop that has active cooling (aka fans) should be used on a flat surface.
