HP Victus 16 Reddit Verdict: Budget Deal or Hidden Risk?

Don't buy the old model Victus — go for the newer model and the 16-inch. People tend to hate the Victus but the newer 16-inch models are more than fine.

I had mine for a month now. Just removed the stickers as well after seeing this. I can confirm they come off easily, and leave no residue. Been really happy so far, running it on Linux.

If better build quality is what you want, yeah definitely switch. As far as build quality in this year's models is considered: Legion/Strix/Zephyrus/Predator Triton > Helios/Omen/Transcend/TUF/Dell G15 > Nitro/LOQ > Victus > all lower MSI/Gigabyte gaming lineup.

Hinges? No. I have been using my HP Victus every single day since I bought it last August. Not a single problem about hinges. None at all. Open the lid from the middle, keep the laptop safe in a good bag while traveling, and don't open the hinge like a 3rd hand maths textbook. Love it and it will love you back.

HP Victus is actually good (especially this year) except the screen wobble.

I enjoy my Victus laptop, no problems — just first day problems and bloatware I had to get rid of. I've had no issues except the occasional startup bug that fixed itself and I haven't had that since day 2. It's quite good.

I got a 15-fa1082wm, upgraded to 32GB RAM and an AX210 WiFi card and I love it. Don't open the lid like a savage — open it gently in the middle and you'll be fine. Running Linux, zero issues with mine.

I got the 4050 Victus 15 because my other option was a 3050 LOQ at the same price. If you can find a 4050 Victus then go for it, but if both laptops have the same specs then go for the LOQ and opt for an extended warranty.

I have been using Victus 16 since 2022, Ryzen 7H, 3050, and 512GB SSD. There is a heating issue but I haven't changed my thermal paste or cleaned it since 2023. No other noticeable issues. It will be better if you go for newer models though; they might have better build quality and cooling. I get around 2 hours max while unplugged doing moderate workload, but just browsing and videos gives around 5–6 hours.

All of those rumors are mostly exaggerated. The build quality is mediocre, the hinge problem is present in almost every laptop, especially HP. If you can take care of the laptop with great care, it shouldn't be much of a problem. But if you really want to play safe, get the Lenovo LOQ.

I actually play this on an HP Victus 16 with an i5 and RTX 3060, and I can run it on Medium (or even High on some particular sliders) quite smoothly, except for some cutscene hiccups here and there, which can be solved by installing a cutscene or performance mod. And did I tell you I've finished this game twice and am currently on my third run? You're good, don't worry too much about it.

I got the same laptop and it's amazing. Although I wigged out and upgraded everything since I got the laptop so cheap. Spent another $275 upgraded the SSD, RAM, Screen & battery.

I have basically the same laptop and it has 2 2tb SSDs and 32gb G Skill RAM but they can be taken up to 64gb.

I have the same model and the TDP of the 4070 is 87 degrees, so you shouldn't have a temperature-related limitation if it's at 75. In any case, since I have limited access to the advanced BIOS, not much can be done to increase the TDP.

Save a bit more for 40 series — a bit more recent and future proofing. I'd go for a 3060m instead if you can, much better performance. If you opt for a 4060, it has 8GB of VRAM. I've been playing a lot of modern games and you don't want the VRAM to bottleneck you. If you want to game on it for 4–7 years you better invest in a machine that will last you.

Absolutely, it feels great. I bought it in 2021 with the 3050 GPU and it's still running great, very snappy. The hinge is fine. Overall, a really solid budget laptop.

Have it for 4 years now, no issue whatsoever. Screen wobbling can be annoying but you'll learn to ignore it.

Please don't buy HP laptops. They are the shittiest ones. They have a heating issue, a Hall Sensor problem and more. I regret buying this piece of shit.

There are no hinge issues or battery drain. Build quality is solid but ain't the best compared to other gaming laptops. Overall great choice as a budget laptop, but some models can have Hall Sensor issues — just make sure the model you're interested in is safe.

I've owned 4 HPs, none of them have had any build defects whatsoever.

If you're not going to use the GPU that much, just get the Victus to save money. Otherwise, if you do have other apps that are graphics intensive aside from games, get the Omen.

I just got one. So far I really like it. I don't carry mine around much so I should test the physical build too much. Otherwise it's everything I could want.

I think the issue had disappeared completely. I did unplug and replug the battery connector and give the motherboard a nice scrub after changing the paste and doing a fan replacement so that must've been the fix. I reverted the power plan to stock and noticed no issues at all.

The GPU and Display are the main issues here. 3000 SERIES GPU doesn't have Frame Generation which we need for new AAA titles as most of them are unoptimized. The 45% NTSC is pure bullshit — I had 100% sRGB before and now they replaced it with 45% NTSC (65% sRGB) and the colors are so dull that I had to use an external monitor for gaming. This laptop is a good deal in 2021-23, now it's not.

Mine broke 1.5 years after purchase while being cared for — no heavy gaming, mostly used for school work. I can't recommend it. The motherboard is fried and the repair cost as much as I got it brand new.

Bought mine September 2023, motherboard recently went on it and I barely used it in that time. $900 fix for a $600 laptop. I wouldn't buy one if I were you.

Check the display specs before purchasing! I have one with a very bad display — covers about 60–70% of the RGB palette. You know the YouTube red button? Well, it is orange on my laptop. No calibration can make reds look red. Not usable for photo or video editing.

Depends on how you're going to use it. If it's going to be plugged in and on your desk for 90% of the time, it's probably going to be just fine. If you're carrying it around everywhere then you should probably go for something a bit sturdier.

Don't get any 3050 — get something that ends in 60. Been using mine for 2 years. Good hinges. Good plastic build quality and battery drain is like most laptops. Gaming laptops are made to be used while plugged in, so most gaming laptops have short cheap batteries.

If you're going with Victus, buy the extended warranty with ADP within a week after buying the laptop — the price is lower that way.

I checked both Victus and LOQ at offline stores. Victus looks good in terms of design but the body is made of cheap plastic so poor build quality.

I've heard the hinges are improved on 2024+ models. Personally have had no problems with mine.

The 2023 Victus seems well built for its price class. The 2021 Victus 16 in particular had screen wobble issues, hence why the Victus lineup got a bad name for build quality.

The touchpad feels cheap and it flexes into the laptop when you press on it.

I bought a Victus last month and have regretted that I didn't get a Nitro V15. Cons: only 1 SSD slot for the majority of Victus 15 and some newer Victus 16, the hinge will still move even from fan wind, and only 2 USB ports which for me is not enough. The only pros I can think of that isn't on the Nitro V15 is an SD card slot.

The same happened to me. I bought it earlier this year and used it for Roblox, Sims 4, and Minecraft, but I believe it overheated while I was playing ARK — the motherboard fried.
