Summary

The Lenovo Yoga 6 13 (2023) is a compact 2-in-1 laptop that earns solid praise from Reddit users as a well-rounded productivity machine for students and light users. Powered by AMD Ryzen 5 7530U (or 5700U depending on config), the consensus is that it punches above its price point when on sale, offering good build quality, a vibrant touchscreen, and reliable battery life. The main recurring frustration is the soldered, non-upgradeable RAM — especially the 8GB base config, which users warn fills up fast under multitasking. Overall, it's a dependable everyday laptop rather than a performance machine.

Pros

  • Strong value when on sale — Reddit users regularly praised deals in the $450–$650 range for the 16GB/512GB config as hard to beat in the 13" 2-in-1 category
  • 100% sRGB IPS touchscreen with a 16:10 WUXGA aspect ratio gets consistent praise for color accuracy and brightness at this price point
  • Lightweight and portable chassis makes it genuinely easy to carry; multiple users noted being surprised by how light it felt out of the box
  • Ryzen 5700U and 7530U variants handle office work, coding, light photo/video editing, and even some emulation and older games without breaking a sweat
  • Fingerprint reader is fast and responsive; users report quick and reliable Windows Hello login
  • Fan stays mostly silent during browsing, streaming, and light productivity — several users confirmed no audible fan noise during casual use

Cons

  • Soldered RAM with no upgrade path is the single most cited dealbreaker — the 8GB base config is widely considered insufficient for anything beyond basic browsing, and you can't fix it post-purchase
  • Ryzen 7530U is a Zen 3 chip rebranded into the 7000 series, meaning iGPU performance (still Vega) hasn't meaningfully improved over the 5700U — not a good pick for users expecting a modern graphics bump
  • Runs warm under load; some users reported thermal concerns when gaming or doing sustained CPU-heavy tasks, and reviewers noted throttling on the 4000U-era models
  • Fabric lid cover is polarizing — looks distinctive but can stain, peel over time, and can't be cleaned in a washing machine; several users would prefer a standard finish
  • Webcam quality is noticeably poor and drew complaints from users who rely on it for video calls
  • No Thunderbolt support across any Yoga 6 generation — limits eGPU options and fast docking setups for users who want to expand the system

The RAM Problem No One Can Fix

Soldered memory is the Yoga 6's Achilles heel. Reddit users repeatedly warn that the 8GB base config runs out of headroom fast, and since it can't be upgraded, you're locked into whatever you buy. The 16GB config avoids the issue — but the 8GB deal isn't worth it no matter how good the price looks.

A Great 2-in-1 Deal — If You Catch It on Sale

At full retail, the Yoga 6 faces stiff competition. But Reddit's buying community consistently flagged the $450–$650 sale prices as genuinely excellent value for a 16GB, touchscreen 2-in-1 with AMD performance. The consensus: wait for a deal, and it's hard to beat in its category.

Linux Users Actually Like This One

The Yoga 6 has a quiet following in Linux communities. Users report that the touchscreen, fingerprint reader, and stylus mostly work out of the box on Fedora, and battery management under Linux is manageable once you tweak BIOS sleep settings. It's a rare Windows laptop that doesn't fight you when you switch OS.

650 bucks for a 5700u, 16gb of ram and 512gb ssd, cant really go wrong for studies.

Excellent little machine. Get a USB-C to HDMI dock to plug it into a monitor when you're at your desk and enjoy. Great battery life and very snappy performance. Ryzen 4000 and onward are probably the biggest leaps in laptop chips in, well ever. Powerful enough to do some light gaming but efficient enough to get 10+ hrs battery life without needing to juggle a bunch of settings.

Why? Is it specifically on the build quality? Because the Ideapad 5 pro has a 5500u not a 5700u and is the same price with otherwise identical specs so I'd think this would be a considerably better deal...?

I have the 1TB version of this (got it for $800 late last year). Extremely good laptop and does everything perfectly. It is very lightweight (I thought that the box was empty when it got delivered). 2 in 1 mode is really handy if you like to read. The touch screen is a great convenience. Performance-wise, it plays games like Minecraft as well as my gaming rig, but it does get hot, so playing on a proper surface is required.

If trackpad is a concern, you will not find anything that works as well as a MacBook and OS X. My laptop is an M1 Air because of it.

The only thing they've been missing is thunderbolt support. These processors would be perfect paired with EGPUs.

I used a 13" or smaller laptop for all of my schooling. I found bigger than that to be a pain to actually take anywhere with me.

The 5600u is actually not as far behind the 5700u as you would think, since 5700u is zen2 and 5600u is zen3. Plus the ideapad has a way better screen resolution and aspect ratio and brightness. Reviews of this yoga say it runs quite warm and has a plastic build.

The fabric gives a really nice texture for gripping it one handed. Modern plastics are so slippery now.

I'm worried the fabric cover would get dirty from oils on your hand.

This is a good deal. I was just looking at the yoga 6 on Lenovo's website. However, the 8GB really scares me. I don't know if I can justify buying one with only 8GB just in case I ever want to travel and do anything slightly more intensive on it.

I have one of these and it is built very well. I'd trust this any day over HP.

Really good deal. RAM is dual channel 16GB. Screen is 13.3" with 99% sRGB colour accuracy at 300nits (good and bright colour accurate screen for the price). 2x USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 support data transfer and DisplayPort 1.4, can connect up to 2x monitors.

I'd rather not have a fabric that can trap dirt and stains, I work with tools a lot and I prefer the plastic or metal Yoga and Thinkpad lines of Lenovo's laptops typically more.

Don't try to desolder and solder new ram onto the motherboard yourself. You would be better off buying a motherboard with the correct amount of ram and replacing it yourself than trying that.

Very quick. Unlock by fingerprint is very quick to take you into windows. It works pretty well with docker as well with VS Code even though it has 'only' 8 GB of RAM. Best part is that it's super portable. Screen brightness is really good. Not dim at all.

One major caveat with this purchase; RAM is soldered so no upgrade potential here. The performance isn't going to wow anyone. That said I purchased this for my kids for school use; note taking, doing homework, internet, and other light usage. And I cannot find any better deals for small 2 in 1 laptops that didn't have garbage tier CPUs and build quality.

I own far too many laptops and I find myself coming back to the Yoga 6 more than most of them. It's a very complete package. I upgraded mine almost as soon as I brought it home with a 1TB Samsung 970 Evo Plus. Was very happy there are only 6 T5 Torx screws to deal with as it's much simpler than most to open up.

I just bought the yoga 6 Ryzen 7 1TB 16gb ram this weekend since it was on sale for £760 GBP. Amazing laptop for the price. The HP x360 Envy with similar specs is quite a bit more money and has a smaller SSD. For what we need it for its perfect and also looks cool.

I have this exact laptop. I've tried both Fedora and Ubuntu on it. The WiFi drivers didn't work by default under Ubuntu but that stopped being a problem when I switched to Fedora. The touchscreen works as expected out of the box. You can also use a Lenovo touchpen that works out of the box with no configuration.

It easily got 8 hours when new but one year later it gets only about 6½ hours or so using LibreOffice, as low as 4 hours when doing some programming, including compiling code with GCC, editing, etc.

I think 8 gigs of ram is not enough. Windows will take half of it and a few chrome tabs will chew what's left. I think you are better off with a yoga 7. It is 14" but the battery is bigger, the AMD version have an updated processor, it supports USB4 and it's not more expensive.

The yoga is generally a step up in build quality over the ideapad. Generally the yoga is quite a bit more expensive, so for the same price I would definitely pick the yoga. The envy is a good option too. Just not the ideapad, it's entry-level build quality, very flexy and creak-y.

The fabric hasn't given me any issues, but it wasn't an aesthetic concern for me when buying it and I'm someone who is pretty meticulous about electronic devices.

I'm hesitant to go NVIDIA since I'm going to install linux and don't want to deal with drivers nor the added battery drain from a dedicated GPU.

This is a steal for that price, 100% sRGB 300nits, possibility it has upgradable ram.

Under Linux, I can keep it always on and charge it once a day. I can estimate 6 hours of unaccelerated 1080p60 Twitch viewing. SATA M.2 storage is usable and Wacom Bamboo Ink pen works with it.

Pretty much all the good Lenovo form-factors and configurations are Intel sadly. I'm still waiting for a good 6800u/7735u laptop.

According to my country's product page, the latest Yoga 6 13" has 7x30u line (Zen 3) of Ryzen, not the 35u (Zen 3+) or 40u (Zen4) line. Since R5 7530u still uses Vega as iGPU, graphic performance should be similar to 5700u.

The jump from 5700u to 6800u iGPU is massive, around 60-80% in games. For U series it's probably more like 45-60% but still very impressive.

I'm bothered by the fact the Yoga 6 doesn't deliver enough power to run the 4700U as well as other laptops, resulting in a solid third less performance than the Envy. But I'm hearing WAY too many horror stories about the Envy's hinge failure and HP not honoring the warranty on them.

I had a Ryzen 3 3300U Envy x360 and was disappointed by its cooling: running CS:GO benchmarks would drop the performance by 30% on the second run. The Yoga 6 doesn't have that problem — performance is higher and stable.

I agree, keypress is a bit spongy but very serviceable and I did not experience any of the crazy base bending Laptopmedia stated in their review, which concerned me prior to my purchase. Same thoughts with their temperature tests, I haven't even experienced the laptop being warm let alone hot.

It's heavy for hand holding — it's more of a lap-resting laptop situation when used in tablet mode.

If you have not tweaked power settings on a Linux laptop you will generally get less working time. OEMs spend quite a bit of time tweaking their settings in Windows. But if you change the BIOS settings for sleep, you will generally not have any problems with a closed laptop burning through the battery.

For gaming, minesweeper maybe. But for real, probably not. The RAM limitation is going to hamper gaming significantly. Maybe it could run old legacy games OK, or low res indie games or something. Otherwise this is best for internet and maybe streaming.
