Summary

The Lenovo Yoga 7i 16 (2023) is a well-regarded 2-in-1 convertible that Reddit users generally recommend for students, hybrid workers, and light creative tasks. Performance praise centers on its capable Intel Core Ultra or AMD Ryzen processors and fast DDR5 RAM, which handle multitasking, coding, and light video editing without issue. Sentiment is cautiously positive, with most owners satisfied for everyday use, though a vocal minority has flagged reliability concerns like early crashes and fan problems. The glossy, highly reflective display is the most consistently cited drawback across threads, and the lack of a discrete GPU limits its ceiling for gaming or GPU-intensive work. At sale prices it's seen as solid value, but at full MSRP some users feel it's overpriced relative to the competition.

Pros

  • Intel Core Ultra and AMD Ryzen AI variants deliver strong CPU performance for multitasking, programming, and light creative work — users report zero lag running 15+ tabs, PDFs, and productivity apps simultaneously
  • DDR5 RAM provides noticeably snappy responsiveness even at 16GB, with multiple owners noting it feels faster than expected for the spec sheet
  • 2-in-1 form factor with a responsive touchscreen is well-suited for note-taking, digital drawing in stand/tent mode, and students who need flexibility
  • Solid port selection including dual Thunderbolt 4, HDMI 2.1, USB-A, and microSD covers most connectivity needs without dongles
  • Battery life of 7–10 hours under light use (browsing, documents) is workable for full school or work days on a single charge
  • Linux compatibility confirmed by multiple users — runs Fedora and other distros reliably, making it an appealing pick for developers who want to ditch Windows

Cons

  • Extremely glossy display is the top complaint — described as mirror-like, causing severe glare in sunlit rooms and distracting reflections even indoors; a matte screen protector is the most common workaround
  • No discrete GPU means GPU-heavy gaming and 3D rendering are off the table — casual titles like Valorant run fine, but anything demanding is a non-starter
  • RAM is soldered and not upgradeable, locking buyers into the configuration they purchase — a real concern for longevity as software demands grow
  • Reliability red flags from a subset of users: reports of units crashing within days, fan replacements needed before 18 months, and sudden power failures — Lenovo's warranty service gets mixed reviews
  • Fan noise under load is notably high-pitched and sharp on some units, described as airplane-like due to the thin chassis and tight internal airflow
  • At full MSRP it's considered overpriced by several users — the consensus is to wait for a sale (Black Friday deals have brought it to $599–$700) before buying

The Glossy Screen Tax Everyone Pays

Nearly every Yoga 7i owner eventually mentions the display. The glossy panel reflects so aggressively that users can see people standing behind them — and the fix most land on is a third-party matte screen protector that Lenovo should have shipped from the factory.

Great Laptop, Wrong Price Tag

Reddit's verdict is consistent: the Yoga 7i earns its praise at $599–$700 on sale, but at full MSRP several users call it overpriced and point to better-spec'd alternatives. Timing the purchase around a sale isn't optional advice — it's the recurring recommendation across every thread.

Linux Users Are Quietly Loving This Thing

While most discussions focus on Windows use cases, a thread of Linux users reports the Yoga 7i runs Fedora and other distros without issues. It's an underappreciated angle for developers and open-source users hunting for a well-built 2-in-1 that plays nicely outside Windows.

I would say that is a bit overpriced — try to get a Core Ultra 7 series 2 laptop instead, it has better graphics.

I have the 7i with the Intel ultra processor. It screams. 1 TB drive with 16gb ram. Screen is fine. IMHO, unless you absolutely need an OLED screen, don't spend the extra money. Not a gamer, but this is a fantastic PC.

I do a lot of research, writing and editing, have to look up tons of things on the fly, have 15+ tabs open, 10+ PDFs, text editors. This thing runs great, good battery life too. I love how big the screen is as well. One thing: I had no idea how reflective the screen is. When I got it and started working in a room with direct sunlight, it really surprised me.

I have the 16 inch screen, AMD version, and so far it hasn't failed me with one task. However, I accidentally dropped it and the corner now is dented while eating a bit in that part of the screen when I close it... In fairness it's a solid laptop but when it comes to durability it may not last.

Crashed after 8 days. Online tech support could not repair. Returned it for full refund.

The high core CPU and RAM will let you handle basically any CS software that I am aware of.

I have the Lenovo Yoga 7i with 16gb RAM and honestly it has not lagged once in the three months I've had it — I use several apps for art and studying, too! Occasional video editing.

The reflective screen is real, but increasing the brightness is an easy fix. The hinge works perfectly fine; it is very stiff, so it stays where you want it to be. Battery life is my favorite of this device lasting me about 7–8 hours streaming videos on battery. Overall, there is nothing much that I can complain about for 700 bucks.

For the price I think it's alright, it's a decent laptop that should perform well. Don't buy it if it's not on sale like that though.

Both battery life estimates are false. Companies always put out fake battery life hours. Expect between 5-8 hours in real-world use. The Yoga 7 with the AMD chip has a better CPU and is more power efficient, but the integrated graphics are slower than the Yoga 9.

I bought the AMD Ryzen 7 version for $599 on a Black Friday deal. Too good to pass up.

That damn glossy screen — at least no one can sneak up behind us.

You can get a matte screen protector to counteract the gloss.

Lenovo's battery is horrid — lasts 7-10 hours with simple Windows OS and Firefox. Edge is slightly better but any demanding apps or browsers are gonna be a quick battery drain.

I don't hear the fans while working with 1080p videos but I do with 4k. The laptop doesn't slow down and working with video eats a lot of RAM in general but the laptop just heats up and turns the fan on. I still haven't noticed any lag.

My only complaint is that I do a lot of video and zoom trainings — the audio was horrible and cracked a lot and the video is very pixelated. I tried to get it fixed but geek squad said it is a manufacture error. So I returned mine.

I don't know how it performs with Windows (I would never use it) but it's amazing with Linux. I highly recommend it.

I play games on it and it's good — it can handle CPU heavy games but not really GPU heavy games. It still runs them alright though.

The fan noise is totally weird. Not sure if it's only the fans or also because of the metal case and the fact that it is so slim — the air squeezing out makes a sharp high sound like airplane take off because there is not much space inside. I already sent my laptop once back to the service and they said they replaced the fans but practically it feels like nothing happened.

I really love the model a lot, and it is super fast. I really love the fingerprint reader. The laptop just feels so high quality to me. Also, the DDR5 ram makes the laptop feel lightning fast, for some reason. I only had 8GB (soldered), and I was able to do a lot of multitasking, with no issues with lag, so 16gb should be plenty for most users.

Mine just died out of the blue — 5 months I've had it. I'm in Brazil and bought it in the US so I'm scrambling. It was fine and then I plugged it in and it went black. Tried different chargers, different outlets, confirmed the power cords worked by charging my phone — nothing will even turn on the battery charge light.

Definitely a great model for office tasks due to the high core CPU and RAM which is the only thing that Microsoft and Google needs. And yes you can print and edit.

It is like 4.5 pounds which is a little heavy but I think its battery life and performance makes up for it honestly.

The screen is very responsive and doesn't feel cheap, although it does lack some brightness which may be a problem outside.

Mine started having fan problems not even a year and a half after I got it. Got to replace the fan now.

I've had mine for 6 months and the hinges are just as tight as they were when I took it out of the box, but I also very rarely use tablet mode.

Agree on display glare. If you have light coming in you might get distractive reflections on dark scenes. On bright it's okay. Speakers are quite good if you enable Dolby Atmos — actually quite amazing for movies. I notice by default it is not using Dolby Atmos. You need to change it in sound options to enable enhancements.

I also just got it and enjoy it as well. I think the display is good — I am happy with the resolution, brightness and aspect ratio. I don't do color accurate work, so I can't speak to that but it seems good to me. I have no IPS glow or backlight bleed. It is quite glossy, so not perfect — I have a matte screen protector I am going to apply soon.

I have this laptop and I've had it for maybe just 2 years almost. It overheats when playing games on the lowest settings despite it still being pretty new, the headphone jack breaks no matter how you handle it (mine broke twice and now I just use bluetooth), the touchscreen bugs out a lot when going into tablet mode and it always thinks you're holding a key like ctrl, fn, alt, or right click.

The new Yoga is absolutely fantastic. The stylus pen is very accurate like pen to paper. I must say best PC I have had. Its capabilities are endless. I had a 1 year old Mac that I gifted away. No comparison.

For many the 14" form factor nails the productivity vs portability balance — people choosing the 16 are mainly prioritizing screen real estate over carry comfort.

When I switched from 16" to 14", it was like having a breath of fresh air. Before I thought the bigger the screen the better, but then I would be sacrificing comfort and portability. 14 fits better in the backpack, around your arm, works on your lap better and looks a lot more reasonable if you are going around presenting stuff.

I got this one for my mom who has a 12+ year old laptop that's barely working. Since she's just browsing, playing flash games, word processing kind of stuff, I'm sure this is more than enough for her.

How's the battery? I'm getting 5h of reading PDFs and notetaking on OneNote and I don't know if it's a faulty battery or if it's normal.

In a world where ARM laptops now exist, 'good performance' with 'solid battery life' are oxymorons. x86-based laptops will die much quicker as soon as CPU frequency shoots up for any task. You might get claims like '12 hours of battery life', but watch a YouTube video and do a video call at the same time, you'll get more like 4 hours.

Yes it's a great deal, these things retail for much more than that. It certainly can do what you need it to do and maybe more. I have the same model but with 12th gen i7 and it runs great and battery lasts a while (5 hours+ if I'm doing some light browsing or document editing). The only thing I worry about are the hinges since I've read some nasty stuff; mine work fine but I haven't had it for too long.
