Summary

The Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i 16 (2024) is a premium thin-and-light laptop that punches well above its weight in performance, and Reddit users are largely impressed with the overall package. The MiniLED 3.2K screen, exceptional keyboard, and surprisingly powerful speakers are consistently praised as standout features that set it apart from gaming-focused competitors. It appeals most to professionals and power users who want a sleek, premium machine capable of serious workloads and casual gaming without the gamer aesthetic. The elephant in the room is battery life — virtually every owner flags it as a significant shortcoming, with real-world usage hovering around 3–5 hours depending on settings. There's also a recurring frustration around port routing, since all display outputs run through the iGPU rather than the dGPU directly.

Pros

  • MiniLED 3.2K display is a genuine highlight — users describe it as 'stunning' and 'gorgeous,' with excellent brightness for HDR content and sharp text rendering for productivity work
  • Keyboard and speakers are class-leading for a thin laptop, consistently called out as better than competing gaming and premium laptops including Dell XPS and Legion 5
  • RTX 4060 and 4070 configurations offer real gaming performance in a slim chassis — users report solid frame rates in demanding titles at 2560x1600 without needing dGPU-only MUX mode
  • Premium build quality in the Teal and Luna Grey colorways with anodized aluminum, minimal flex, and a single-finger lid opening; users upgrading from older XPS or ThinkPad units notice a clear step up
  • Second M.2 Gen4 slot available for storage expansion, and USB-C charging works reliably at 100W — useful for travel setups with compatible docks
  • With power optimization tools like Lenovo Vantage, QuickCPU, and CPU parking enabled, some users report up to 9 hours of light browsing — proving the hardware ceiling is higher than default settings suggest

Cons

  • Battery life is genuinely poor out of the box — expect 3 to 4 hours on standard settings for everyday tasks, and under 2 hours under load; it requires significant manual tuning to approach 5–6 hours
  • All external display outputs (HDMI, Thunderbolt 4, USB-C DP alt mode) route through the iGPU, meaning dGPU-exclusive external monitor gaming is not possible; this is a dealbreaker for some users
  • USB-C charging requires 100W minimum to function while the laptop is active — most third-party docks and monitors top out at 65–96W, leaving the laptop unable to charge through them
  • RTX 4070 configuration is unavailable in the US market entirely, and the 64GB RAM option is similarly restricted to certain regions like Europe, frustrating buyers looking for the higher-end spec
  • MiniLED panel has reported quality control concerns — including pink-tinted patches developing over months of use and backlight uniformity issues visible on white backgrounds in apps like Excel
  • Paint chips on the Teal colorway have been reported from normal use, and the oversized trackpad causes palm rejection issues for some users during extended typing sessions

Is 3–5 Hours of Battery Worth Everything Else This Laptop Offers?

Reddit owners are unanimous: the Yoga Pro 9i's battery life is its biggest flaw. But a significant chunk of them say they don't regret the purchase because everything else — the screen, keyboard, speakers, and build — is genuinely exceptional. Whether that trade-off works depends entirely on how often you're near an outlet.

The 4070 Config Reddit Wants Is the One Lenovo Won't Sell in the US

The most recommended configuration — RTX 4070 with 64GB RAM — is simply unavailable to American buyers, a limitation Lenovo support couldn't even give a timeline on. European users got the premium build; US buyers are stuck choosing between the 4060 or importing.

Turns Out the Yoga Pro 9i Is One of the Best Laptop Keyboards Money Can Buy

Gaming laptop comparisons tend to focus on GPU specs, but Yoga Pro 9i owners keep circling back to the keyboard and speakers as the hidden reasons they love this machine. Multiple users switching from Dell XPS and Legion laptops say the typing experience alone made the upgrade worth it.

Just got mine with the 4060. Agree on all points with how insanely nice the laptop is. Coming from a 15in XPS (2023). Cheaper, faster and better quality.

My Yoga Pro 7 with a Ryzen 7 8845HS + RTX 3050 6GB has been absolutely awesome. The power of a gaming laptop in a chassis as thin and light as a MacBook Pro. Your friend will be jealous that you're getting so much raw performance in such a thin chassis.

Lenovo also has several docks that do 100 watt or higher power delivery. There are monitors that output 100+ watts too.

I got one. I don't notice such things. It's really good, silent, nice looking, sturdy, and the screen is gorgeous. The only bad, no ugly, thing is the battery life. It's definitely very bad, and you have to tweak it / downgrade some preferences to save some minutes, roughly some hours.

Lenovo's overall failure rate is below the national average. Lenovo sells over 60,000,000 computers yearly, so a few complaints on Facebook don't constitute poor quality control or a poor product. People see a few posts on a common topic and jump to the conclusion that it's a systemic problem.

The supplied 170 watt power supply does not sufficiently cover the maximum consumption and the device has to tap into the battery. During stress testing, the battery capacity drops by 12% in 75 minutes.

The legion gaming laptops are good if you want really max performance out of your hardware and gaming specific features, like Gsync, direct dGPU to external monitors etc. But they can lack in other respects, like webcam, windows hello, speakers (big one), heat and noise, trackpad. All of which are excellent on the Yoga pro. Also the MiniLED is much better than the IPS on the Legion.

Don't buy this laptop if you're looking for good battery life. But tbh, it's pretty on par for laptops with a dGPU and intel processor. Buy this laptop if you want a sleek premium laptop that can game with an awesome keyboard, insane speakers and a really great screen. My battery lasts about 5 hours in light usage. It has its quirks, but on the whole it's pretty awesome and I don't regret buying it.

My battery life is around 5.5 hours in light usage from 100% which is unfortunate and not what I was expecting, but everything else about the laptop is fantastic. Speakers sound amazing, keyboard is great. I use it for gaming on the side and all my games run fantastic on high settings. Low fan noise, great screen.

Ask the magic eight ball, that's what Lenovo uses to make product decisions about the 64GB RAM US availability. Lenovo seems to send review units of variants not available in the US to YouTubers.

I ordered exact same config as you with no OS. I faced exactly the same issues you had so it was a bit weird to install windows without touchpad and no Wi-Fi at the same time. For the HDMI port, Lenovo is a bit shaddy on this especially because they labeled it as 'HDMI 2.1' but be aware it can't go beyond 4K60 and it's linked to iGPU only. So it's more like a classic 2.0 port let's be honest.

Anyone else here with the teal coloured one? It's looks stunning, no doubt about that. I feel like I'm treading on egg shells each time I use it. I just know I am going to scratch it somehow.

The USB C - Alt mode was connected to my Samsung G70B through the intel Arc GPU instead of the 4060. Now I know that the HDMI, TB4, and USB-C DP alt mode goes through the intel GPU even when having Advanced optimus on. The USB type C DP alt mode does work with higher frame rates, in my case 4K at 144hz. I am happy with this purchase, the Mini LED screen is gorgeous.

Take a MacBook, you can plug literally any charger into it and it'll work. The extreme laziness of PC manufacturers not getting this is frustrating. Same experience on the Legion 7. Shitty charging implementation.

Even my Lenovo Legion from 4 years ago asks for 100W to charge in enabled mode, and 60W in sleep. OP clearly missed the RTFM part.

I read your review and also had a significant issue with the Mini LED version last year. The uniformity of the white color was particularly poor when using programs like Excel, which was very distracting. I also noticed some flickering, even though the PWM frequency was stated to be 7000.

400 nits is bright for me when working inside. I run it at 3/4 brightness. On the outside reflections can be a problem, but still workable in a shade. I prefer IPS over OLED for my use case and this screen is way better for me.

Glad to see I've inspired others to share their experiences! I also get the jerk noise when the fans kick in, I think it's normal.

I'm getting around 9 hours battery life with light usage. This is web browsing and installing a couple of apps plus generally windows stuff. I'm using the power saving option from Lenovo combined with QuickCPU settings. Overall I love this laptop! It's miles better than my previous one.

I've got the laptop and I'm fairly happy with it. It runs fast, mostly quiet and the screen is amazing (I prefer Mini LED over OLED). Like others mentioned, the battery isn't great on full brightness with 165hz but you can play with the settings to get more life out it. Coming from a Dell XPS 15 (2023).

I have 32 gigs rtx 3050, same, can't reach 2 or 3 hours. I use MacBook Pro 16 as my work laptop, it's a shame and pain using it now. Everything else is great!

I had the Yoga pro 9i with 13905h and mini LED screen. One had dark lines on the screen almost right away, and I had to send it in for repair. It came back with some deep scratches on the case. Poor battery life, and the trackpad was too big. Palm rejection wasn't good and it got in the way all the time.

The screen is the mini-LED touch 3200x1200 version and whilst it is 'stunning' to look at, the colours seem too colourful. I like the feel of the keyboard keys, slightly rubbery but the number pad is pointless even if you were a heavy number pad user.

Is it still good with an RTX 4050? It is a gift sent for me so I can't change to a 4060 and yes it is for gaming disguised as a necessary tool for education.

My Legion 7 gen 6 2021 had 15 repair tickets bought brand new from Lenovo. That said I was happy with the service. Very easy to fill out a ticket, customer service was quick to book the service, technicians varied but Lenovo made no sense sending the same technician to my house 3 times to fix the same problem.

Size and weight is not bad. It's a 16" laptop so its not small, but its very slim for the power. The battery life is not the best. You can get 6 hours on battery saver mode and low brightness 60Hz doing low demand tasks. Doing high power stuff will get you about 2 hours.

I have the 4060 model. I've found that some cable/charger combinations will charge it and others won't, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of rhyme or reason to it. In other words, it's more than just charger wattage and cable specs.

I actually had the exact same thing in mind as an incoming freshman, but I've decided to return it for two reasons. I also found the battery life not good enough (around 4 hours of Netflix). I know that that's pretty good for a miniled but would rather not have to bring a charger.

I just bought one of these, and wow! CPU/GPU performance is amazing; screen is vibrant, bright and sharp with rich colors; speakers get quite loud (for a laptop) and actually have deep bass and sound great. The machine looks sleek and modern. The biggest downsides are the fact that it's heavy and the battery life is not great. But for this much power, what do you expect?

I get roughly 5-6 hours on average, with 60hz IPS and battery saver turned on. So far I've only heard my fan turn on once, and that was when I was doing a lot of things at once. But if you're just watching YouTube or writing essays, then you won't hear it.

My Lenovo Slim Pro 9i 16IRP8, purchased 9 months ago from Costco. The miniLED panel developed pink tinted patches all over. They already failed a simple monitor swap on-site twice. It's currently in repair depot waiting on parts.

Just got it and no review is gushing about the keyboard. That to me is the most crazy thing about this and the speakers. I can't say much about the battery life but for my visual needs, it is not looking good so far. Yes it is not a battery saver, but it performs very well and I'm very happy with it so far.

I bought the Intel Ultra 9 185H, 64GB, matte miniLED and RTX 4070 configuration and even in battery saving mode with 60Hz display setting at 50% brightness, I can't reach 2 hours with simple web surfing. The notebook uses iGPU for the browser, the Nvidia is disabled. Lenovo support is awful, wait in queue for 40min for assistance.

This is just the 360 hinge problems, most other companies that also sell 360 hinge laptops have the same problems. Lenovo's build quality on their non 360 hinges is actually very good, and I speak from experience. I've been using a Yoga for a few years, a lot of people I know have them too and it's all good from them.

The Pro has far better compatibility with USB-C charging than last year's Slim Pro 9i. It works with all of the Anker wall chargers and a few of the battery packs I've tested so far. And dock charging DOES work.

I called Lenovo support and they don't even know when the 4070 is coming to the US other than 'eventually'. It's a bummer because I mostly want the 64GB of RAM, which you also can't get in the US. The 4070 + 64GB of RAM is a pretty damn solid mobile work station.

I'm loving it so far. It feels so much better built than my Dell XPS. Only issue I've had is sometimes the sound card goes a bit funny but I just reset and it's fine again.

What I'm saying is that there is no minimum stated on the spec sheet. They say that it's compatible with their 100W USB-C charger, not that it requires 100W. It just had USB-C charging as supported when I purchased it.

The Yoga series in general has very poor build quality. I am constantly seeing posts about them being broken in one way or another.
