Summary

The MSI Raider GE67 HX (2022) is a 15.6" gaming laptop that generated strong enthusiasm primarily because of its Samsung QHD 240Hz OLED display — widely described as unrivaled on a laptop at its price point. Overall Reddit sentiment is cautiously positive: owners love the screen and raw CPU performance from the 12800HX, but recurring criticisms around build quality, fan noise, display calibration bugs, and the lack of USB-C charging temper the excitement. This laptop appeals most to gamers and creative professionals who prioritize display quality above all else and don't mind a large proprietary charger. Software hiccups at launch — particularly washed-out colors under Optimus mode — were widely reported but fixable via Intel driver reinstalls, and MSI even issued guidance for the fix.

Pros

  • The Samsung QHD 240Hz OLED panel is the standout feature — peak brightness measured at 616 nits, 97% Adobe RGB coverage, and true HDR 600 certification make it one of the best laptop displays ever tested by users in its class
  • The i7-12800HX delivers exceptional multi-core performance, with users reporting 12,448+ TimeSpy scores and CPU temps staying around 74–75°C at 55W during gaming — competitive with machines costing $1,200–1,700 more
  • RTX 3070 Ti running at 150W is the highest wattage implementation in a 15" form factor, with GPU temps peaking at 79°C in 3-hour gaming sessions, aided by 7 heat pipes and a phase-change thermal pad
  • Upgradeable RAM and storage — two DIMM slots accessible after removing a simple back panel, making it easy to expand beyond the base 16GB DDR5 config
  • Solid value proposition at $1,999–$2,299 for the 3070 Ti config, putting it on par with competing machines that cost significantly more

Cons

  • Build quality is plastic-heavy — the bottom panel and chassis feel cheap compared to rivals like the Razer Blade 17, and the small trackpad is a consistent complaint
  • Fan noise is very loud under load — users describe it as 'jet engine' levels at 5,100 RPM, making it a poor choice for quiet environments
  • No USB-C charging support and a massive 330W proprietary brick, which significantly hurts portability despite the 15" form factor
  • Display calibration issues at launch: colors appear washed out under Optimus mode, requiring an Intel display driver reinstall — not ideal out of the box
  • Only 240Hz or 60Hz refresh rate selectable — no variable refresh rate (VRR) support at the OS level, causing judder for users whose frame rates fall between those two values
  • MSI's QC track record concerns some buyers — multiple users reported RMA experiences with prior MSI models, and support is described as difficult to deal with

That OLED Screen Is the Whole Argument

Owners consistently say the 240Hz QHD OLED panel — with 616-nit peak brightness and 97% Adobe RGB — is reason enough to overlook almost everything else about this laptop. It's the feature that keeps showing up in every thread.

Great Performance, Questionable Package

The GE67 HX punches above its weight in raw CPU and GPU benchmarks, but a plastic chassis, no USB-C charging, a 330W brick, and jet-engine fan noise remind you where MSI cut corners to hit the price.

Photographers and Color-Sensitive Workers Are Actually Buying This

Several users in creative fields — photography, video editing, color-grading — chose the GE67 HX specifically for its 97% Adobe RGB OLED panel, treating it as a portable workstation that can also game.

It is! Super great so far. Only had time to get it set up and run some benchmarks though. Downloading some games as we speak!

12800HX works great in the GE67 HX. 74C in gaming at 55 watts.

Because of form factor and that Strix SE have a much better cooling solution in the form of a giant vapor chamber, there is actually some noticeable performance differences between the two especially in extended workloads. The QHD240hz oled is unrivalled in a laptop.

Testing the GE77HX, GE67HX, and Acer Helios 300. The GE77HX was just a bit too big for me to pack in the backpack. The GE67Hx has that OLED and the 12800HX which is a real draw.

I personally wouldnt recommend the GE67HX, I think you are better off with the 17 inch options or just go with the normal GE66. I dont see the 15.6 inch chassis being the best fit for those HX machines.

Man Im jelly, even though I have an i7 10870h 32gb ram rtx 3070 laptop. Being an early adopter makes me wish I waited for at least a legion.

I can imagine how good that OLED display must look in person given that even in a picture it looks substantially better than any other gaming laptop display currently available for sure.

I have one and working on it but mine has tons of issues in terms of display. After running all the windows updates, the screen looks white and washed out on optimus. On discrete GPU mode it looks fine, but on HDR I'm getting a bunch of flashing artifacts when running HDR.

In general, the only problem I had was temperatures, I changed the thermal paste and everything was solved. Currently I use Liquid Metal, the performance is too great for the hardware that this equipment has.

Buy a different brand. Msi will fail you on build quality.

Bought 3 msi laptops. First one was the GP66 - had massive driver and keyboard issues the day after purchase. RMA. 2nd was a GE66 with the fancy phase change metal. Had huge temp spikes on few of the cores. Bad application. RMA. 3rd was a GE76, weird keyboard driver issue that i wasnt able to fix. RMA. So yea 3/3 of my MSI purchases were lacking in QC and build quality.

I prefer the Blade over GE67. Simply because of the build quality. May be I just have trauma with MSI plastics break down before the machine.

Your monitor is ABSOLUTELY next level! I cant even imagine how good it looks. I get about 18733 on CBR23 on my scar 17, so not that far off, but your display is something else.

I have the GE67 HX and the cooling performance is amazing. Im seeing 12448 Timespy overall score with GPU peaking at 79C in a 3 hour gaming session at 150 watts and the CPU temp hits 75C at 55 watts. 7 heat pipes and a phase change thermal pad do a great job.

On ultra nightmare settings Im getting a solid 70-80 fps in horde mode. Its pretty smooth and steady for the graphics being maxed out.

That is sick, this might be the best all-around screen ever put on a laptop.

It does not support VRR. 240Hz or 60Hz are only selectable out of the box. If you use V Sync below 100FPS thatll smooth everything out with an increase in latency.

Just keep the laptop, no handheld is close to strong as your laptop. Most handhelds are only strong as a gtx 1060.

I had this same issue. I had to reinstall intel display drivers which fixed the issue. Was ready to return it until I stumbled across the fix.

The cool thing is MSI actually did some pop ups informing me to do so and they linked to a pdf on how to do it. It was really awesome that MSI did that.

I have a ge67 and will say its absolutely amazing. There was an issue initially with the color being washed out but a few simple uninstalls/updates fixes it. I dont regret my purchase at all but I primarily use it plugged in for gaming. The charger is huge and it does not support type c charging so if you will be moving around with it a lot I would go with the legion.

The thermals are pretty good. GPU peaks at 79C at 150W and the CPU stays around 75C at 55W. The thermal pads help tremendously. Fan speed for both CPU/GPU hit 5100 RPM so it is quite loud when gaming.

I have been using that OLED panel for a while now and in a pitch dark room its other worldly. I would never give up the GE67 HX just for the display alone.

Firing up Hollow Knight on this at 240fps is an experience I wont soon forget though, but unfortunately it seems like this laptop just isnt for me. The screen itself is incredible but the judder when the frame rate wasnt either 60 or 240 was too distracting for me.

I measured the screen to be able to do 97% adobe rgb which is better than almost all other laptop screens except maybe the Dell XPS 17 and last years razer blade 17.

Yeah its this or the m16 from asus for me though because of their screens. I do a lot of color sensitive work and need a panel that can handle that accurately and also be capable of gaming.

I was also debating between the two and ordered the MSI ge67hx from BestBuy on Monday. Really want to try out that OLED 240HZ screen on it. Just wished it had USB C charging though.

The GPU difference is quite substantial. The GE67HX falls in gaming benchmarks for $2299 on par with machines that cost $1200-1700 more.

Best performing RTX 3070 ti with Oled Vs larger LCD screen, 165W RTX 3080 ti and a better build. It really comes down to which set of strengths that each laptop has that you prefer. If the Oled of the MSI is a must and you need the better CPU performance stick with it.

I bought the GE66 Raider JUST before this got announced. Then last week the motherboard audio died so now sound only works with external speakers or headphones with sound card connected.

To open the rear is super easy but there is 1 screw under a sticker so dont miss that. Once all screws are out use a plastic pry tool or old credit card to slide around the edges and it pops off. Temps are great but fans are kinda loud.

Halo 3 saturating that 240Hz refresh rate was pretty insane. Once you go QHD OLED 240Hz its hard to go back to anything else.

Not really. With 16 cores its hard to notice anything appreciable and the undervolt only applies to the P cores anyways. Ill stick with -50 as its not worth crashing mine.
