Summary

The Samsung Galaxy Book4 (2024) is a polarizing lineup that splits opinion sharply depending on which variant you buy and how much you paid for it. The base model earns decent praise for university and office tasks when caught on sale, while the Pro variants draw consistent fire for thermal throttling, stuttering under light loads, and a chassis too thin to tame its own processor. The Edge (Snapdragon X) model adds ARM compatibility headaches to the mix, with battery life that falls short of the Copilot+ promise. Across all models, Samsung's bloatware and occasionally flimsy build quality are recurring pain points that users have to actively work around. At full retail price, most Redditors agree the value case collapses — but heavy discounts and trade-in stacking regularly shift the math.

Pros

  • Stunning AMOLED/OLED display with effective anti-reflective coating that outclasses competing panels in the same price range
  • Lightweight and portable build makes it genuinely easy to carry, with users calling it comparable to MacBook Air dimensions at Windows prices
  • Samsung ecosystem integration (Quick Share, Link to Windows, universal clipboard) works reliably and adds real convenience for Galaxy phone and tablet owners
  • Base and 360 models handle university and office workloads — browsing, streaming, Microsoft 365, light gaming like Sims 4 — without major issues when debloated
  • Battery life on the base and Edge 14" models reaches 12–13 hours for light use after removing x86 bloat and using Throttlestop or quiet mode
  • Sale and trade-in pricing regularly drops models to $400–$650, where the hardware-to-price ratio becomes genuinely competitive

Cons

  • Galaxy Book4 Pro 14" stutters and drops frames during basic tasks like web browsing and folder navigation — multiple users returned it within weeks citing thermal and performance issues
  • Thermal management is poor across the Pro line: chassis runs hot doing light work, fans roar under moderate load, and the thin design has no real headroom for sustained performance
  • Build quality concerns include creaking hinges (especially on the 16" Edge), flimsy display panels with spontaneous cracking reported on 360 models, and plastic hinge construction that inspires little confidence
  • Samsung bloatware ships with x86 apps on ARM models, hurting idle efficiency on the very hardware sold on battery life — users must manually debloat to get advertised performance
  • Galaxy Book4 Edge (Snapdragon X) battery life underperforms versus the Surface Laptop 7 by a meaningful margin in benchmarks, undermining the core Copilot+ selling point
  • Samsung after-sales support is widely criticized: warranty service means mailing the laptop in for 7–14 days with no loaner, and forced McAfee/Device Care installations via system updates anger existing owners

The Pro Model That Frustrates Power Users

The Galaxy Book4 Pro 14" repeatedly disappoints users doing nothing heavier than multi-tab browsing — frame drops, sluggish Explorer, and heat that doesn't subside even after clean installs and debloating. Several owners switched to MacBook Pro or ThinkPad within months.

Great Screen, Questionable Value at Full Price

Reddit's consensus is clear: the AMOLED display is genuinely excellent and the anti-reflective coating is best-in-class, but Samsung's retail pricing puts it in MacBook Pro territory without the reliability. Wait for a sale or trade-in deal — or look elsewhere at MSRP.

The Edge's ARM Gamble Pays Off for Some, Backfires for Others

For office workers and students who only run native apps, the Galaxy Book4 Edge delivers quiet, snappy performance and solid battery. But users with legacy software, older games, or niche tools hit ARM compatibility walls that x86 emulation doesn't fully solve.

This Oryon launch could've been so much better, it seems, if Qualcomm or Microsoft had set some standards, not unlike Intel's 'Evo' laptops. Hell, even all Chromebooks must reach 10 hours battery life in Google's test suite. Under 450 minutes on the Wi-Fi test is a terrible result for the marquee practical feature of X Elite.

I have the book4 pro 360 and I have not noticed this kind of problems. I reinstalled windows as soon as I got the notebook outside of the box. After that I did not install any of the shitty Samsung tools, just the update tool for the drivers.

I own a 4070 Book4 Ultra. It's perfectly fine to me. The laptop can be noisy and very hot, but only when I'm editing videos or playing heavy games like Cities Skylines 2. When I'm doing simple tasks or even playing light 3D games like Overcooked 2, the fan's noise and heat are just unnoticeable. It's acceptable to me. And I've never encountered crashing issues.

Battery life was the one thing these Snapdragon chips had going for them over Intel and AMD, and while some laptops certainly do better than others, the fact that this laptop loses in performance to Meteor Lake and the battery life is a mixed bag over the similar Intel based Galaxy book is such a mess.

I'm also curious about how Snapdragon performs for basic work stuff. That battery life sounds amazing though.

I haven't tried the Surface, but have the 14" Edge. I picked it up about a month ago. It's my first Galaxy laptop since the Flex 2. I haven't had any issues with palm rejection or any odd hardware issues at all. It's hard to open with one hand because the hinge is very stiff, but feels really good.

I have the Galaxy Book4 Pro 360, and after reading what you wrote, it felt as if I had written it. I have had the exact same frustrating experience. Additionally, I am experiencing trackpad issues which I have posted about online, but Samsung does not seem to care. The most recent issue is the forced installation of Device Care and McAfee as part of a system update. The 'use your phone camera as a webcam' feature has never worked either. The laptop becomes sluggish; Explorer crashes frequently.

I'd recommend checking out Throttlestop. I used it to reduce the turbo wattage and now my book4 360 pro can last up to 12 hours on an 80% charge under light use, whereas I would get maximum 6 before. With the added bonus of it not getting as hot anymore.

Samsung's apple prices are a plain scam. These price marks are just there to sell the idea that their products are on par on quality as Apple's; but they usually drop by much lower once the lineup is superseded by another gen and/or offer some deals that cut down their prices by a bunch — a thing you don't just frequently see on apple. They are effectively part of their marketing strategy rather than a reflection of the actual value of the products.

I'm having a great time with mine, the only thing that annoys me is sometimes I seem to have difficulty switching between my fold 4 and flip 5 re: far connectivity, and I think they shouldn't rely on the Windows Android app as part of the setup. But as a whole, I think the laptop is amazing, especially for the price point.

Myself and my colleague both have Galaxy Book 4 Pro. Good form. Good performance. Excellent screen. The anti-reflective treatment is very helpful, and it works as advertised. If you have samsung phone and buds, it seamlessly connects for calls and alerts. Phone Apps or screen mirroring etc. Overall, it's an excellent laptop, until it freezes suddenly. It happens occasionally, like once in a week or two. And It happens to both of our laptops.

I only lasted 2 weeks with the 14" book4 pro, returned it because of many of the same issues. Add in the abysmal Canadian multilingual kb layout and it was even worse. The performance was so bad for such a promising design with a beautiful display. I wasn't hunting for the absolute fastest laptop or anything, just looking for 'fast enough' but the constant frame drops, stutters, and hitches made it a horrible experience.

Mine too! Same laptop! I got it for $859 open box like new from Best Buy but that creak was there from the first moment. Even if it does not break it does annoy me, and the fact that the hinge appears to be made of plastic of all things does NOT inspire confidence. Sigh. So many missed opportunities with an otherwise great laptop.

The book 4 edge solves most of the problems on the book 4 pro. I suggest to return or trade in the pro for the edge model. I have both and prefer the edge. I paid around $650 for the pro and $400 for the edge through the Samsung app sale price, although the edge is cheaper it is better overall.

Mine is like this. I clean installed and it did help a bit, but after using it more, it didn't really fix the issue. It is shockingly slow and laggy. The same as you. I have about 10 tabs open and it starts crashing. Even after a clean install. It also uses way too much RAM.

Just bought recently the Book 3 with the 13th gen i7 and 16GB of RAM. I had the same issues, but after I've deep cleaned my laptop of any bloatware and optimized taking it out almost any windows 11 bullshit it seems to run fine. I've messed down into the registries to optimize and turn this machine into a decent workstation and tbh, almost any Windows laptop is going to have the same problem.

I got the laptop on sale for $550 marked down from $899. Even without the major flaws it's not even a $500 laptop IMO. It has freezed up a few times trying to listen to music while using chrome.

I love mine. You have to uninstall all the x86 bloat that Samsung puts on it, but once you do, you'll have exceptional battery life. I get about 12-13 hours. It's really fast, the screen is gorgeous, and it really is instantly on and instantly off. I can go from opening it up to being online within 3 seconds (seriously) and now use it rather than my phone when I need to look something up online. Plus, the touch screen is actually really nice and useful.

I use IntelliJ rather than Eclipse because it's already ARM native. You can find plenty of times on posts like this that I call out roughly the same battery life for general office work, and about 5-6 when doing heavy coding workloads. Absolutely stellar device.

I have a 16" Edge and a 15" SL7. Samsung wins in the screen. But SL7 wins in everything else, hands down. Palm rejection issues have not been reported for the 14" Edge and it makes sense since it's a much smaller trackpad than on the 16" model.

I have both of these computers and I can say you really can't go wrong with either. Palm rejection on the 14 inch GB4E is not a problem in my experience but the trackpad is still a diving board so not the best, especially against the 13 inch SL7 which has a nice haptic trackpad. Battery life on both is incredible although with the way I use computers I can't get you hard numbers since I'm always switching back and forth between a bunch.

I was in the same boat, except it was 16" edge vs 15" SL to replace my 14" AMD SL4. I think they both have excellent build quality, but IMO the Samsung has the better screen. With the sales putting the Edge around $1k less than the X Elite SL7 it seemed like a no brainer. I figured I could get the edge and build a desktop if the ARM chip didn't work for me.

The computer itself, if we talk about weight is a plus. The computer is light, easy to carry around and has a USB-C, which is better, since every device right now is with this and it'll help you to charge different device with the same connector. In terms of performance, I have seen sometimes a slight lag but is because I have so many programs open. It runs Valorant smoothly, but you can expect your computer getting at 100°C, which is the max the pc can handle itself.

I have the GB4P 360 16". Got it a fortnight ago. Keep the screen refresh rate to 120hz locked — it doesn't drain too much battery. GPU is at around 20% for me in idling but yeah in the first week it was quite around at 60% because it does a lot of things like calibration of battery, display etc. Also it gets used up due to search indexing on windows and quick search indexing on samsung.

They are all like this. Still have my i7 1260p Book2 pro. With the book2 there are a few things to like but it is mostly bad. I mostly work on an M2 Air now and it is cost about the same and is muuuuch better unless you want to play games, simply because there is greater choice on PC.

Samsung just had the worst implementation, even using eUSF storage instead of a standard SSD. Best value is the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x which can be had with 32GB of memory, OLED touch with 1000 nit HDR, and 1TB at less than 3lbs for less than $1400. Otherwise if you're willing to spend more or want a tablet form factor the Surface laptops/tablet options are pretty good.

Why do you want an arm laptop tho? I could sell you my GB4 edge for $1200 CAD if I could, I find it serves no point now that new intel chips offer the same battery life and better gpu and no compatibility issues.

I'm in education and I use my galaxy book 4 pro for just about everything. Streaming, lesson planning, gaming. It's worked flawlessly for me so far, no regrets whatsoever. I've had the laptop for about a month now. I upgraded from a Microsoft Surface Go.

I saw it on bestbuy.com for $530+tax and thought about it but there were some 1* reviews that inclined towards the NO. Tough decision. It seems that for that amount of money is almost impossible to get similar specs.

I've tinkered enough with the settings inside Windows and I decided I'm just not going to use it seriously anymore. I picked up an M1 Pro MacBook Pro just a couple days ago and I've been extremely happy with it. I will be keeping the Galaxy Book around for software that the MacBook cannot run, but outside of that, I'm unfortunately not willing to put up with it anymore.

I have issues with the fingerprint reader, the trackpad sometimes glides on its own, heating issues and creaks near the speaker vents. But I never changed it because of the display — the anti reflective coating is so good that I can't stand reflective screens like the one on macbooks.

Buy Galaxy Book 4 ONLY if: 1) Good Trade In Value, 2) You want a Samsung Ecosystem, 3) You want the Professional and Sleek feeling. If they don't apply then I'd recommend checking out other laptops at that price range.

I took this exact deal about a month ago (Traded in a 8GB 256GB M2 MacBook Air for $600 then purchased the $580 Samsung Book 4 at 16GB 500GB). The Samsung Ecosystem is a cool thought, but not fully polished. Features like the universal keyboard and quick share work without an issue and are great time savers. Also, being able to drag a file over to my phone is even better. However, things like multi-control are very buggy.

I got the galaxy book 4 a few months ago. I got the 8gb ram one for 350€. Pros: good battery, screen's pretty solid, I love the lit keyboard, slim. Cons: it's a little puffy under my keyboard on the right side, might be a battery issue, fans get kinda loud after a while, hinge is a little loose, I'm very against generative AI and I hate that there's a whole button to open an AI assistant, only one USB-A port. Overall it's a decent laptop.

If you are not doing intense tasks and are just browsing the Internet, you can put your laptop into quiet mode, which prevents it from running in full power, improving the heating issue, as well as the battery life. This is a common problem across slim laptops as manufacturers often sacrifice cooling for a lighter and thinner chassis. By reducing the performance it will last much longer.

By default, the refresh rate is set to be dynamic between 60hz and 120hz. You can change that in the display settings. The fans will roar in Performance mode, I recommend Optimized mode for day to day tasks, the fans won't kick on near as much. I've had it since launch, it's been solid.

It's a Samsung laptop. As with all Samsung products, aesthetics takes priority over functionality/performance. Samsung has been a practical non-entity in the personal computer business for years due to their crap internal hardware designs and poor quality control. As expected, that has not changed even now.

I would avoid any snapdragon/arm windows machines. The app compatibility just isn't there and Microsoft's implementation of x86 emulation is ass compared to Apple's Rosetta. Might as well get a Mac at that point.

Google Galaxy book reviews before you do anything. I returned a SAMSUNG 16" Galaxy Book4 Pro because the display was super flimsy. I had a bad feeling about it being so flimsy so I googled for reviews and found they weren't great. There were too many bad reviews for me to risk it.

I have no words to describe how beautiful, manageable and good this device is. After buying some laptops in this tax-free month, some good, some bad and returned, I saw this Samsung Galaxy Book 4 edge at $1199 on Best Buy and gave it a try. This is by far the best laptop I have ever seen or had (including apple devices), the screen is so gorgeous, so bright and beautiful, the body is so perfect and light, they put the right ports. It is so thin that is a pleasure to take it.

I have taken it away from home twice this week for work without a charger and returned home with over 30% battery each time using the lowest power setting. Yesterday I got what seemed to be a huge update to bios etc. It took about 15/20 mins. Ultimately a step up from the book 3 pro 360 — even in quiet mode the performance seems better.
