Summary

The Corsair Scimitar Elite Wireless is the go-to MMO mouse for heavy side-button users, and Reddit's verdict is largely positive with one persistent asterisk: the scroll wheel. Longtime Scimitar fans who have owned two or three generations still keep coming back, which says a lot about the ergonomics and the adjustable 12-button Key Slider. It appeals most to MMO, space sim, and productivity users who need thumb-accessible macros without leaving WASD. FPS players occasionally note the weight is on the higher side, but it's rarely a dealbreaker. iCUE software complaints are common, and Bluetooth mode is limited — iCUE only works over the 2.4GHz dongle.

Pros

  • Adjustable Key Slider lets users physically reposition the 12 side buttons up or down, accommodating both small and large hands — a feature Reddit consistently praises as unique among MMO mice
  • Up to 150 hours of battery life via SLIPSTREAM 2.4GHz wireless with sub-1ms latency; can also be used wired for charging during sessions
  • Textured side button columns make it easy to distinguish button rows by feel alone, reducing misclicks during gameplay
  • Loyal repeat buyer base — multiple users report owning two or three Scimitars across generations, and many say they'd buy again if theirs broke
  • Optical switches on newer models are considered a significant upgrade over the older Omron-based versions, reducing click failure issues
  • Versatile use cases beyond gaming: DAW shortcuts, Photoshop macros, web browsing — users report all 12 buttons get assigned in productivity workflows too

Cons

  • Scroll wheel durability is the most cited complaint across every generation — multiple users report erratic scrolling or physical breakage within 1 to 1.5 years of heavy use
  • iCUE software is widely disliked: setup is cumbersome, Bluetooth mode isn't recognized by iCUE at all, and migrating profiles between Scimitar models requires manual re-entry one macro at a time
  • Heavier than competing MMO mice — users transitioning from lighter FPS mice frequently note the weight as an adjustment, especially for fast-paced shooters
  • Wireless dropout issues reported by some SE model owners, often fixable by switching the dongle to a USB 2.0 port, but not always intuitive to diagnose
  • Side buttons have a slight wobble that is noticeable out of the box, though most users say they stop noticing it after a short period
  • No extra thumb buttons near the left click (like the Logitech G604 or Razer Naga), which is a layout gap that some power users find limiting

The Scroll Wheel Problem That Won't Go Away

Every Scimitar generation since the original has carried the same scroll wheel complaints — erratic scrolling, physical breakage, failed middle-click. Some users have gotten replacements under warranty just to cycle back into the same issue. Corsair hasn't convincingly addressed it publicly, and Reddit hasn't forgiven them for it.

The MMO Mouse Logitech G600 Refugees Keep Landing On

With the G600 discontinued and hard to find, a surprising number of Reddit posts frame the Scimitar Elite Wireless as the next best option. It doesn't have the G600's ring-finger button or tilt wheel, but the adjustable side panel and ergonomics make it the most direct competitor available at retail.

Space Sims, DAWs, and Photoshop — MMO Mice Are Productivity Tools

Several users use the Scimitar Elite Wireless entirely outside of traditional MMOs — for Star Citizen keybinds, audio software shortcuts, and Photoshop macros. The mouse's programmability makes it a niche productivity device, and that use case is flying under the radar in mainstream reviews.

Corsair replied to a tweet I made 3.5 years ago asking for a wireless version to let me know it was real. That's some damn good customer service right there. I'll be ordering one once this stupid hurricane goes away.

I own this mouse since March 2024. Great mouse, but you have to use for its shape and weight. But I like it so much.

I've been using this mouse for a couple years now and it's fantastic. I don't know if the scroll wheel issue is still present in the newer models but mine has held up great so far.

I've bought 3 of the scimitar elite wireless. The scimitar has always been my favorite mouse since it was first introduced. I use one in my office and one at my gaming setup. My wife uses the third one at her combined office/gaming setup. We have not had any issues with the mice being unreliable or breaking so far. I would estimate over the three mice we are using that we have logged about 3000 hours, with half of that being on a single mouse.

Been using scimitars since roughly 2016 and couldn't be happier. Replaced my first scimitar with another scimitar and the only thing that's going to replace this one is another scimitar. I just hope Corsair will listen to the fans and add some weight(s) to the thing.

I've had mine for a couple of months now. The middle mouse wheel feels good to me, although long-term we'll see how it holds up. The side buttons do wobble a bit, and that annoyed me at first, but I don't notice it now and they do give a very satisfying click. The biggest downside to this mouse is iCue. No getting around it, iCue sucks ass, but once you get everything setup it's fine.

I have the wired Corsair Scimitar for PC. I had the same issue with the side buttons not working in FFXIV. What I ended up doing was mapping the side buttons to the numpad, so side button 1 is numpad 7 so that it matches the layout of the numpad. Then in FFXIV, you can set the keybinds you want on your mouse to be the numpad buttons.

I was a Razer Naga v2 pro user before and the scimitar wireless is sooooo much better. In every possible way. Can't love it enough.

I have it and it's great. Very comfortable to use and great for games like Diablo or even World of Warcraft. My issues with it are the buttons aren't bright enough and the surface is a fingerprint magnet.

I enjoyed mine for the decade or so I used it. I used to play wow at the us sub 50 rank for that period of time and that mouse was just so good for someone that had too many keybinds. But once I quit wow about a year or so back it lost its place as my to go mouse.

Oh nice, even the white one is on sale. I really wish the mouse market wasn't completely cornered by all these hyperlight no extra button mice, there's so few choices for stuff with like more than 12 buttons which has always been my sweet spot.

I used to play a lot of WoW, and having all of the side buttons was easier for me than using the keyboard, but then I just got used to using them for everything. So many games have a handful of abilities that I just find easier with an MMO mouse — Diablo, Genshin, even swapping weapons in Doom.

This is a mouse for people who use the numpad with their thumb. We still want all the extra buttons that non-mmo mice get. I personally want the shark fin on top from the Nyth AND Razer's 3 left click buttons. Finding the perfect MMO mouse is a little bit like hunting for a unicorn.

As someone with small hands, the Scimitar gets big props for the moveable side panel. The side buttons are also much nicer than regular 12 side button mice as the textures make it easy to tell which column is which. I've owned 2 and both scroll wheels began to fail, but I am a heavy user and haven't owned a single mouse that has ever lasted more than 1.5 years without one issue or another appearing.

I love mine. I constantly bounce between mice. I got it because the razer type version with non removable buttons was impossible for me to pick up without mashing the side buttons. The corsair allowed me some adjustable wiggle room and it's great. I got it to use with my DAW audio software.

Really liked mine when I had it, unfortunately left click stopped registering holds after about a year which made it unusable for the games I played. Out of the MMO mice I've used this was probably 2nd best under the g600.

Connects to the front and would look like a regular wired Scimitar. Yes, charging wire connects to your PC. You can use it as a wired mouse. I had to play with Device Manager settings to stop sporadic drop outs. The side buttons feel good — better than Steelseries Aerox 9. You can slide the 12 side buttons further up or further down which is pretty neat too.

Scimitar pro is an all time great mouse. I've been asking for a wireless version for so long I started looking into possibly modifying mine.

Its a good mouse. You have multiple profiles you can change and macros to use. I mostly play Star Citizen so I need all the keyboard buttons and modifiers I can get. But on the side of FPS games, its a little bit heavy. Not a big issue. The mouse is being used for work and play. And it looks beautiful!

Yes i have one and love it. Before I've had 2 nagas which broke within 2 years. After that I had a naga epic chroma which broke as well within 2 years. Every time it was the left mouse button switch. The scimitar feels more durable and the moveable numpad is a one time adjust and is a great feature. I am never going back to razer.

I have used my Scimitar for 2 years now and it's still solid. Sometimes when you start your computer the software won't recognize the mouse. A simple restart solves the problem. I have used a lot of mice with many side buttons and this one is my favorite so far. If it would break I would buy another one.

Scrollwheel is trash tier, but the mouse is great otherwise. On a positive note, the scrollwheel is so bad that it crapped out on me 3 times in 2 years so I can get a full refund and just rebuy it again.

The Corsair's biggest flaw is that the numbers on the side are 2 low. If you have bigger or fatter hands your thumb will struggle to hit the 1 and 4 buttons while the G600 was perfect.

Been using a scimitar pro since like 2016. One of the best mice ever imo. I have had no issues with scroll, but I did have an issue with click last year.

Did they finally make the scroll wheel stronger? That's what's broke on both of my Scimitars over the years. Love the thing, otherwise, but the scroll wheel is kinda weak.

Have you fixed the scroll wheel click to not break after 2 months though?

I loved my scimitar but like a few others have mentioned, the scroll wheel/button crapping out quickly if you map it is a concern. Curious if that's been addressed at all, would love an excuse to get another one.

I had scimitar elite non wireless and I'm never buying corsair mouse again. While design is very good everything else is not. Mouse developed double clicks and wheel issues in 1.5 years, also the coating of mouse got worn off.

Has anyone with the SCIMITAR ELITE WIRELESS or the SCIMITAR ELITE had the middle mouse click break? I have had 2 of the SCIMITAR PROs and both of their middle mouse click died. I'd love an excuse to buy this version... if the middle mouse click is more durable!

Does it have the same broken mousewheel that has shipped out with every Corsair Scimitar since the inception of the design, or did they finally fix it? I guess they would've been excited to advertise a functional scrollwheel if this product came with one. Hard pass.

Sad to see you guys seemingly made the mouse available before getting its iCue integration done. It does work as far as a simple mouse goes but that's it. So I literally can't use the mouse for what I bought it for (the 12 extra buttons) and have to wait until iCue supports it.

Never understood 'mmo' part of such mice. Why no one markets it as productive power horse? I use it for work and just can't live without it. I use all 12 buttons without stupid shortcuts. I even had whole scripts on such mouse. Too bad mouse wheel suck.

Great mouse so far. Occasionally when the mouse dies, auto shuts off, or is manually turned off, it will spam the 8 key until you remove the corsair Slipstream wireless usb receiver. May need a firmware update.

I don't know why they made the scroll wheel non-rgb and forced it to be yellow on all color models. Looks good on this one, but the white and pure black ones look bad honestly. Weird thing to downgrade.

Pretend you went from the wired model, to the wireless model, to the new SE model and had a bunch of mappings and macros. You'd need to copy each macro and mapping individually into your Library one by one, and then copy each one out of the library into the profile, one by one. Totally wild to me that identical device layouts can't just use existing profiles from other devices.

Having the disconnect issue with my mouse, been having it since I bought it a few months ago. This is a big enough issue that multiple users are having it. If there's a fix, just share the fix please Corsair.

I think I found a fix for the disconnect issue — plug the dongle into a USB 2.0 port (the general black USB port in the rear of your motherboard). They need to be connected through USB 2.0 for the most stable connection. It worked for me, hope it stays stable.

Would highly suggest against buying a corsair mouse. Haven't had one that lasts longer than three months. Get a lesser known brand wireless mmo mouse. Saves you a ton of money.
