Summary

The Corsair Scimitar RGB Elite is widely considered the go-to MMO mouse for players who need 12 programmable side buttons, and Reddit sentiment is broadly positive among its dedicated fanbase. The adjustable Key Slider side panel is frequently praised as a standout differentiator, allowing users with varying hand sizes to find a comfortable thumb position. However, the mouse carries a persistent and well-documented reputation problem: the scroll wheel is widely reported to fail within a few months to a year of use, and this issue has followed the Scimitar line across multiple generations. It sits in a competitive niche alongside the Razer Naga and the discontinued Logitech G600, and most users who stick with it do so because no other wired MMO mouse matches its ergonomics and button layout.

Pros

  • Adjustable 12-button Key Slider side panel lets users shift the button grid up or down to match their thumb reach — a feature no competitor currently offers in the same way
  • Optical switches on newer versions eliminate the double-click failures that plagued Omron-based mice like the Razer Naga and Logitech G600
  • Shape and palm ergonomics are consistently praised, especially by users with medium to large hands who find the Naga too small
  • Wireless version (Scimitar Elite Wireless) delivers up to 150 hours battery life with sub-1ms SLIPSTREAM connectivity, addressing the long-standing demand for a cable-free variant
  • Versatile beyond MMOs — users report heavy use in space sims, strategy games, DAW software, and even FPS with side buttons mapped to equipment and abilities
  • Multiple users report 3–8+ years of daily use on wired versions without major failures, suggesting units that avoid scroll wheel issues can be very durable

Cons

  • Scroll wheel failure is the single most cited flaw across all Scimitar generations — multiple users report wheel skipping, erratic scrolling, or complete failure within 3–6 months of use
  • Middle mouse click is structurally weak and frequently dies on heavy users, with some reporting failure in under 2 months
  • iCUE software is consistently criticized as bloated and unintuitive, with a documented incident where a 5.17 update broke lighting profiles and had to be pulled
  • Mouse requires an unplug/replug workaround after reboots on Windows, a bug that has reportedly persisted across multiple hardware generations
  • Weight is notably high compared to modern lightweight mice, making it a poor choice for FPS players who need fast wrist movements
  • Side button panel has a slight wobble out of the box, and the RGB backlighting on the side buttons is not bright enough according to several users

The Scroll Wheel Problem That Won't Go Away

Across every generation of the Scimitar — Pro, Elite, and now Wireless — Reddit is filled with users reporting scroll wheel failures within months. Some have gone through 2–4 units under warranty. A few have shared DIY fixes involving Vaseline and silicon spray, but the consensus is that Corsair has never fully resolved the underlying design flaw.

The Last Wired MMO Mouse Standing

With the Logitech G600 discontinued and the Razer Naga plagued by switch failures, the Scimitar RGB Elite has become the default recommendation for anyone who needs 12 programmable side buttons on a budget. Rivals exist, but none match the combination of adjustable panel, shape, and widespread availability.

Surprisingly Popular With Non-MMO Players

A notable portion of Scimitar users on Reddit don't play MMOs at all. DAW producers, space sim pilots, strategy gamers, and even some FPS players use the 12-button panel for macros, keybinds, and shortcuts — suggesting the mouse has outgrown its original niche.

I'll be ordering one once this stupid hurricane goes away. Corsair replied to a tweet I made 3.5 years ago asking for a wireless version to let me know it was real. That's some damn good customer service right there.

Also what I use and I'm with you, the perfect mouse for mmos. Currently use it for no man's sky when I play on my PC.

I own this mouse since March 2024. Great mouse, but you have to use for its shape and weight. But I like it so much. It also fell off my table when I bought it but working without any issues.

I've been using this mouse for a couple years now and it's fantastic. I don't know if the scroll wheel issue is still present in the newer models but mine has held up great so far.

Had two of these in 9 months, both scroll wheels have become faulty within less than 3 months.

I really like my Scimitar. I've had it for like 7-8 years and it's still going strong. The side buttons are super helpful for keybinds and macros and whatnot and make things so much more convenient for gaming.

I've had mine for a couple of months now. The middle mouse wheel feels good to me, although long-term we'll see how it holds up. The side buttons do wobble a bit, and that annoyed me at first, but I don't notice it now and they do give a very satisfying click. The biggest downside to this mouse is iCue. No getting around it, iCue sucks ass, but once you get everything setup it works.

I've bought 3 of the scimitar elite wireless. The scimitar has always been my favorite mouse since it was first introduced. I use one in my office and one at my gaming setup. My wife uses the third one at her combined office/gaming setup. We have not had any issues with the mice being unreliable or breaking so far. I would estimate over the three mice we are using that we have logged about 3000 hours, with half of that being on a single mouse.

Been using scimitars since roughly 2016 and couldn't be happier. Replaced my first scimitar with another scimitar and the only thing that's going to replace this one is another scimitar. I just hope Corsair will listen to the fans and add some weight(s) to the thing.

I have one of these. Tiniest buttons ever, at least for my hands. I gave up using that in MMOs cause I ended up using 5 skills simultaneously every time.

I have it and it's great. Very comfortable to use and great for games like Diablo or even World of Warcraft. My issues with it are the buttons aren't bright enough and the surface is a fingerprint magnet.

I was a Razer Naga v2 pro user before and the scimitar wireless is sooooo much better. In every possible way. Can't love it enough.

I enjoyed mine for the decade or so I used it. I used to play wow at the us sub 50 rank for that period of time and that mouse was just so good for someone that had too many keybinds. But once I quit wow about a year or so back it lost its place as my to go mouse. Before it was released mid 2010s i had tried the Logitech and Razer options. But the scimitar size and the ability to move the side keys up and down to what felt comfortable for me was just too good.

I had 2 wired Scimitars, and now I have a wireless one. Honestly, I can't for life use another mouse. The shape and the side panel are perfect for my hand. I don't even play mmo but FPS and strategy games but those side keys are game changer when it comes to comfort when using milion key binds on keyboard. The only thing that sucks are scrolls. They tend to break easily.

I really wish the mouse market wasn't completely cornered by all these hyperlight no extra button mice, there's so few choices for stuff with like more than 12 buttons which has always been my sweet spot.

Having owned both the G600 and this, I think the G600 is a lot better. The Scimitar bafflingly comes with no keybind assignments on the side keys, and you need to manually configure them via Corsair's iCue software in the most unintuitive way possible.

43m here, but I have used an MMO mouse for a very long time. I used to play a lot of WoW, and having all of the side buttons was easier for me than using the keyboard, but then I just got used to using them for everything. So many games have a handful of abilities that I just find easier with an MMO mouse... Diablo, Genshin, even swapping weapons in Doom.

I love mine. I constantly bounce between mice. I got it because the razer type version with non removable buttons was impossible for me to pick up without mashing the side buttons. The corsair allowed me some adjustable wiggle room and it's great. I got it to use with my DAW audio software (keyboard shortcuts/macros).

As someone with small hands, the Scimitar gets big props for the moveable side panel. The side buttons are also much nicer than regular 12 side button mice as the textures make it easy to tell which column is which. I've owned 2 and both scroll wheels began to fail, but I am a heavy user and haven't owned a single mouse that has ever lasted more than 1.5 years without one issue or another appearing.

Really liked mine when I had it, unfortunately left click stopped registering holds after about a year which made it unusable for the games I played. Resetting in software made no difference. Out of the MMO mice I've used this was probably 2nd best under the g600.

I would advise against getting Corsair. Nothing but issues for me, and their customer service is not for the customers. Double-clicking on left click. Not registering on the right click all within a year.

The only gripe i have with this mouse is the weak mouse wheel axle. If you use middle mouse while scrolling a lot, the axle will fatigue and shear itself off.

IT is UTTER GARBAGE, i have had 2 Scimitar pro and 4 Elite, and they ALL have button failure within 10-16 month. AND the last one i opened today, had a surface that had dissolved to a sticky goo. I love the design with the 12 side buttons, but the material engineers and internal part designers are kids/students/monkeys. I am a product designer myself, and this is a monkey job.

I agree, but the scroll wheel is very poor and will break. I've had 2 and both have gone the same way. Still usable, but frustrating. And I never use the press on the middle button because I'm scared of breaking them. So that is with fairly light use.

I'm just one guy so take it with a grain of salt - but had bad luck with mine. The middle mouse click failed after 2 months, left click went dodgy too, cleaned it all out and rebuilt it, never fixed the issues, then the mouse wheel failed completely and just free wheeled. The middle mouse click never bothered me as I just made a few profiles and remapped the side buttons for the task at hand, games, CAD work etc but I was never really happy with the mouse.

Once the side buttons are in the right spot it's great for the games I play. Works as well for me in GTA as it does in Starfield.

Yes i have one and love it. Before I've had 2 nagas which broke within 2 years. After that I had a naga epic chroma which broke aswell within 2 years. Every time it was the left mouse button switch. The scimitar feels more durable and the moveable numpad is a one time adjust and is a great feature. I am never going back to razer and since logitech g600 are hard to get, the scimitar is in my opinion the best mmo mouse currently widespread available.

I have used my Scimitar for 2 years now and it's still solid. As someone else pointed out sometimes when you start your computer the software won't recognize the mouse. A simple restart solves the problem, not that it's a big one, I think it has happened 3 or 4 times for me. I have used a lot of mice with many side buttons and this one is my favorite so far. If it would break I would buy another one.

I use the Scimitar pro at work, but I have the G600 at home. I prefer the G600 because of the tilt wheel and the 3rd mouse button is superior for MMORPGs. Also being able to store key mapping directly on the G600 is great for people who play FF14 on console.

The Corsair's biggest flaw is that the numbers on the side are 2 low. If you have bigger or fatter hands your thumb will struggle to hit the 1 and 4 buttons while the G600 was perfect. It was nice trying this current corsair but i decided to go back to the G600 because it is just that good.

Scrollwheel is trash tier, but the mouse is great otherwise. On a positive note, the scrollwheel is so bad that it crapped out on me 3 times in 2 years so I can get a full refund and just rebuy it again.

Did they finally make the scroll wheel stronger? That's what's broke on both of my Scimitars over the years. Love the thing, otherwise, but the scroll wheel is kinda weak.

I had scimitar elite non wireless and I'm never buying corsair mouse again. While design is very good everything else is not. Mouse developed double clicks and wheel issues in 1.5 years, also the coating of mouse got worn off.

I loved my scimitar but like a few others have mentioned, the scroll wheel/button crapping out quickly if you map it is a concern. Curious if that's been addressed at all, would love an excuse to get another one.

For anyone still struggling with the mouse not being recognized after reboot: holding both the left and right mouse buttons while plugging it into a usb 3.0 port worked for me, apparently this resets the mouse to factory settings.

Just in case anyone comes across this in the future: this has been an issue with the scimitar for as long as I've had them (at least 6/7 years now, possibly longer). I moved away from them for a bit but came back last week as the mouse really is the most comfortable for me, but the issue has cropped up again for me (new mouse, new PC).

Ive been using g502s as my only mouse since 2015. Finally got tired of ghub and wanted to see the other options. Landed on a scimitar se. With the scimitar you can map keys via streamdeck which honestly seems like the king of all the macro softwares. Its effortless.

Both of mine had the scroll wheel issue. Scroll wheel would jump in opposite directions. I pulled mine apart, and applied a pea-sized lump of Vaseline onto the blue wheel, which was to the left side of the scroll wheel. Scrolled back and forth to spread it on, and there's no more issue.
