Summary

The Keychron M3 Mini is a compact wireless gaming mouse that has earned a solid reputation across Reddit as a strong value option, particularly for users with small to medium hands. It comes in both a standard plastic version and a magnesium alloy metal edition, with the metal variant attracting extra attention for its premium feel at a relatively accessible price point. Sentiment is mostly positive, with users praising the PixArt 3395 sensor, 4K polling rate, and multi-connection support, while critics point to durability concerns, mid-gaming lag issues, and inconsistent customer support. It's frequently recommended as an ideal first gaming mouse or a budget-friendly upgrade, and has found a devoted following among macOS users who want a proper wireless alternative to Apple's Magic Mouse.

Pros

  • PixArt 3395 sensor with 4000Hz polling rate delivers flagship-level tracking performance at a budget price, outperforming similarly priced Logitech options
  • Magnesium alloy metal edition offers a rigid, premium build quality with natural cold-to-touch feel that helps with hand sweat during extended sessions
  • Multi-connection support (2.4GHz, Bluetooth 5.1, wired) makes it versatile for desktop and laptop setups without dongle-swapping
  • Iconic mini-keyboard USB receiver design is compact and unique, reducing desk clutter compared to bulky standard dongles
  • Competitive pricing — regularly available at $25 on sale for the plastic version and $99 for the metal edition — makes it the cheapest way to experience a magnesium mouse
  • Software is lightweight and intuitive with LOD adjustment (1mm/2mm), button remapping, and no forced bloatware like Razer's GHUB

Cons

  • Multiple users reported sensor overheating after 2–3 months of use, causing the mouse to stop detecting movement until it cools down — a potential hardware defect
  • Mid-game stuttering and cursor skipping reported at high polling rates (above 1000Hz), requiring workarounds like adjusting game launch options or repositioning the dongle
  • At 64g, the metal edition is noticeably heavier than competing lightweight mice — WLMouse hits 39g, and even the wired Viper Mini SE is 49g — making it a trade-off between feel and weight
  • Plastic version shows creaking and rattling after a few months of heavy use, with at least one user abandoning it and returning to a previous mouse
  • Customer support has been reported as slow or unresponsive, with some users not receiving replies for over a month before having to escalate via Amazon returns
  • Shape only works well for small-to-medium hands in claw grip — users with larger hands may find thumb placement blocks the main click buttons from fully actuating

The Heating Problem Nobody Talks About

A notable thread in r/Keychron details the sensor overheating and failing within two months of purchase, with a second user independently confirming the same issue. It's not widespread enough to be a dealbreaker, but buyers should be aware and purchase through Amazon for easy returns.

The Cheapest Way Into a Magnesium Mouse

Reddit's deal hunters in r/buildapcsales went wild when the 4K Magnesium edition hit $24.99 on Woot. At full price the metal edition is $99 — still significantly cheaper than most magnesium competitors — making it a compelling entry point into premium mouse materials without the flagship price tag.

macOS Users Found Their Mouse

One of the most upvoted short takes across threads was from a user who called it a 'must-have for any macOS user that doesn't want to use Apple's Magic Mouse.' The wireless multi-connection and clean design make it a natural fit for Mac setups, a niche most gaming mice completely ignore.

3395 sensor, 4000hz polling, small shape at 64g so a little dense by today's standards but it's still far and away the cheapest way to experience a magnesium mouse.

Weighs more than the plastic version. The WLMouse hit 39g, this is 25g heavier, like holding an extra G-wolves HSK Pro in your hands haha.

Also if you know anyone with a 3D printer, you can have them print out a test mouse for you to get a feeling for the shape before you buy one!

This over the G303. Better sensor, and the battery is built in.

I did and returned it. Too small, feels cheap, the magnesium is very thin and light and frankly didn't feel any more solid to me than a mid tier plastic. Makes sense considering magnesium is a light metal itself. Just don't buy this thinking it's the mouse version of a nice aluminum case keyboard. It's not like that.

M3 mini user here and I have a Zowie S2 and Lamzu Atlantis. In terms of back, the M3 while being wider is wider at the bottom of the body, and the hump is slightly towards the middle instead of the back. So in terms of palm contact the M3 mini does feel closer to the Viper Mini than the Lamzu. At least in my experience.

and doesn't use the stupid ghub, while also not having the logitech tax. one thing I found better on the g303 was the wheel

At that price I would've looked past the creaking, rattling and paint chipping of the one I paid full price for.

I've used both the M3 Mini & the M3 Mini 4k and they're actually quite solid mice! If you have med-small hands and play claw they're solid! However if you have larger hands depending on your grip your thumb can sometimes prevent the main clicks from actuating, only on big hands though. Also the sensor performance on all keychron's mice is very solid.

An update I would provide is the m1/m2 have started creaking after a few months of heavy use. I play apex as my main game so that's A LOT of clicking/holding the mouse has gone through. It's gotten so annoying that I have stopped using it, and I'm back on my Cobra wired. Something to keep in mind as a possible issue I guess.

Yup, just got mine on saturday and honestly liking it. It's nice and light but also pretty robust so should last a long time. Just wish it had tilt switch middle mouse button and it would be perfect, but at least the software lets me reconfigure the buttons.

I don't think they are looking to compete at the super light segment. The weight is practically almost the same as their M3 mini 4k mouse, just that this is using magnesium alloy material. I think they see a market where people just want that material and perhaps a different aesthetic that comes with it but at slightly more affordable price than competitors.

Loving my M3 mini. I find the chalky coating nice but did add dot grips on each side. Weight is amazing and it's still rather wide which is nice for people with larger hands. The only thing that could be better is the side buttons if they were like the DAV3.

I am now returning the product. It has a lot of errors. The software is undemanding and the whole product has a cheap plastic effect.

This is a pretty nice mouse, I'm glad I went with this. People were arguing about the weight being high for a 'light weight' mouse but the sturdiness is a nice trade off that most light weight mice don't have. This is probably the best $25 mouse I'll ever buy

I preordered it and have one, I can confirm the mouse is awesome: It has very nice build quality and rigid frame, you can feel the quality and the durability, one thing I love since the mouse is made of metal and metal is a good thermo conductor, it's always cold so bye bye hand sweat. It feels very light, personally I don't like the idea of 30g mouses because I like to have some weight but 64g for me is quite perfect.

From reviews, it seems a lot of those issues are affecting more the plastic ones than the metal one. Apparently the metal one has very little flex and is pretty good. At this price it's a steal.

Follow up, this mouse is fantastic! Quickly became my main mouse, replacing Deathadder V2 Pro. I regret only getting 1.... should have grabbed 3 (home, office, backup)

I've had mine for over a month, it's definitely one of my favorite mice. The weight doesn't bother me, but it's noticeable after using the ULX or Beast X. I also enjoy the steps on the scroll wheel, very solid and pronounced.

Mouse is doing good and I still daily it. I did swap out the switches and encoder, not because they were broken, but because I was just getting into the hobby and wanted to try other switches. Besides that, mouse is great!

Several common fixes are advised for the lag issue: Add -nojoy; -thread into the launch options of the game. Lower Hz — commonly it's related to people who play above 1000hz. Unplug joystick usb receivers. Change the mouse usb receiver position, closer to mouse and maybe put into the other input.
