Summary

The Logitech G502 X has a loyal following built on its ergonomic shape, Lightforce optical switches, and versatile button layout, making it a go-to choice for users who need a comfortable all-rounder for both gaming and productivity. The switch from mechanical to optical switches is the defining upgrade over the Hero generation — fixing the notorious double-click issues that plagued older models. Sentiment is broadly positive, though the scroll wheel divides users: free-spin mode is too sensitive and ratchet mode is too loud for many. Reddit consistently flags it as a jack-of-all-trades mouse that shines for palm grip users and MMO/work hybrid setups, but falls short for competitive FPS players who want something lighter and faster. The X Plus variant (RGB version) is widely considered not worth the premium over the standard Lightspeed model.

Pros

  • Lightforce optical switches eliminate the double-click problems that haunted the G502 Hero and earlier Lightspeed — users report zero click failures even after months of daily use
  • Ergonomic shape fits palm grip users naturally, with the thumb rest and side contours praised for reducing hand fatigue during long sessions
  • 11 programmable buttons cover FPS, MMO, and productivity workflows without feeling cluttered — macro users in games like Tarkov specifically call this out
  • Lightspeed wireless version delivers weeks of battery life on a single charge with USB-C charging, a significant upgrade from the micro-USB port on the older G502 LS
  • At sale prices (frequently seen at $40 wired, $80 wireless), the value proposition is strong — multiple users describe it as among the best-value gaming mice available
  • Lighter than the G502 Hero by ~30-40g depending on variant, improving wrist comfort without sacrificing the premium feel users associate with the 502 line

Cons

  • Scroll wheel is a recurring complaint — free-spin mode triggers accidentally from mouse movement, while ratchet mode is described as 'extremely loud and clunky' and unusable for desktop scrolling
  • Optical switches are noticeably louder than the old mechanical ones, with a metallic 'ping-y' sound that irritates office or quiet-environment users enough to prompt returns
  • At ~100g, the G502 X sits at the heavy end of the gaming mouse spectrum — competitive FPS players transitioning to it from ultra-light 40-60g mice report measurable fatigue and reduced tracking precision
  • No Bluetooth support — a dealbreaker for multi-device setups where users want to switch between a PC and laptop without a dongle
  • Linux support requires significant workarounds (VM for G Hub setup, compiling Piper/ratbagd from source) — not plug-and-play for the platform despite the hardware working once configured
  • G502 X Plus RGB premium is widely seen as unjustifiable — users note the RGB is covered by your hand during use and the added weight hurts battery life on the wireless version

The Scroll Wheel Reddit Can't Stop Complaining About

Free-spin mode triggers scroll events just from moving the mouse, and ratchet mode sounds like a mechanical keyboard in a library. It's the one hardware decision that keeps coming up in almost every honest G502 X review on Reddit.

Is the X Plus Worth It? Reddit Says No

The only difference between the Lightspeed and Lightspeed Plus is RGB that's hidden under your hand and extra grams that kill battery life. Reddit's consensus: skip the Plus, save the money, get the same mouse.

Linux Users: Here's What You're Getting Into

The G502 X is not plug-and-play on Linux. Fully remapping all buttons requires either a Windows VM, compiling ratbagd from source, or a combination of Solaar and manual CLI config. Doable, but not for the faint of heart.

I haven't really encountered any significant oddities with the click like the Proteus has had (multiple times over at this point), but time will tell with that. I'm hopeful the hybrid switches do something to provide better click longevity.

I picked up a couple refurbished ones during a sale for $80 and they perform well but feel kinda cheap. They should be $70 retail imo.

I recently bought this mouse to replace a Corsair M65 where the wheel button went out. Gotta say, this is much better. Best mouse I've ever owned. Worth the price.

Upgraded one. No double click issues. Optical Switches.

I have a wireless G502X non-Plus (same thing minus the RGB) and completely disagree with people saying it feels cheap. Mine feels solid and everything else about it is perfect. The wireless hasn't even had a blip and the battery lasts for weeks. That said, the Plus version is dumb. You're paying a premium for RGB that destroys battery life and is covered by your hand when using it.

Excellent wireless performance, ergonomics, battery life, and number of mappable inputs. If you can get past the GAMER aesthetic and weight (which some people really care about), it's a very solid wireless mouse, especially at this price.

If you are looking for a mouse that's dedicated for FPS gaming, the G502 isn't really it considering it's on the heavier side. The G502 is more a jack-of-all-trades mouse. The X has noticeably higher actuation force compared to the older G502 models — it takes more force to press the buttons.

$115 for a mouse is not a deal.

The switches are optical, which means they are significantly less prone to double clicking that Logitech mice have been subject to over the past 5-10 years.

I Have a G502X Lightspeed and i love it, i play a lot of tarkov that requires some extra buttons and for me is perfect. I had (still have) a logitech g pro wireless and i never felt "good", its great for aiming but i never felt comfortable using it, G502 is way better in that sense and is pretty good for aiming too (at least for my taste). The only thing that i did not like at the beginning was the scroll wheel, but now im ok with it.

Once I rested my hand on it, it was like it was moulded for my hand. I've been using it intensely for a week now and not experienced any pain at all. My only gripe with the mouse is I keep accidentally pressing the 2 buttons left of the left click, but it's occasional, and doesn't bother me really.

G502 x plus...I have two of them. An upgrade on a classic. It feels so good in your hand...it just fits so snugly. It's such a tastefully designed mouse. The lighting is top notch especially with the gradient effect.

I tried out the G502x wireless but those were out of stock so I got the Hero. To me, the G502 Hero is much higher quality while the G502x, for some reason, just screams plastic.

It's an upgrade. The optical switch is the selling point of the X version, the shape is slightly different though.

The G502 and G502 X are two completely different mice. The X is a redesigned version of the non-X, and has new switches, which are hopefully more durable than the garbage used in the regular G502. I'm on my third G502 Lightspeed, second warranty replacement, since it launched in 2019 and the left click is beginning to fail on this one too.

This has to be the best value mouse out there! I have used all the versions of the G502 and just upgraded to the G502X.

This is the only gaming mouse I've ever used but I just love the ergonomics. There's just the right amount and right placement of the extra buttons that it doesn't feel overwhelming.

Do not use GHub. Don't ever use GHub. Use Logitech onboard memory manager instead (still Windows only, but it actually works).

I just bought the G502 X Wireless version and with no additional settings, I was able to custom remap my mouse buttons using Piper but just when the mouse is directly plugged in via USB. After that, the settings are saved and fully operational in Wireless mode.

I use it for work (primarily for GIS and coding). Accuracy for editing is great. Using macros with it is a huge time saver.

It's a solid mouse backed by solid software. If Bluetooth isn't important to you it's a good buy.

G502 Hero built like a tank, G502X can feel a bit less quality but it's normal because they reduced the weight around 30-40 grams. Heavy mice usually have better build quality. G502X is using optical switches so you won't get any double clicks. I like the G502X more than the Hero because it is lighter, has better skates and has an optical switch.

I don't know your hand size, but I found the G502X to be a bit narrow in the thumb area for me, and the Basilisk to be roomier.

The clicks are quite loud. Louder than any other mouse I've owned (various Logitech, Corsair and Razer gaming mice). They also have a slight metallic pinging sound to them. If you're sensitive to mouse clicking sounds, this probably isn't the mouse for you.

Been PC gaming for nearly 2 decades and this is by far my favorite mouse. I used to have the wired version before they made wireless. I love the little thumb rest on the side.

I have one in white. Amazing mouse. Fixed the "double click" issue that plagued the original g502 I had. Never thought it would make THAT much of a difference, but I would upgrade 20 times over.

The battery on the G502x LS lasts forever. I hardly ever have to charge it. Plus the charging port is easier to get to and can take any USB C cable. Also, no more double click problems.

I just recently went to a g502x lightspeed, cause it was on special and my gen 1 lightspeed is a bit older. So far it has been brilliant. No issues at all. The scroll wheel isn't as nice as the gen 1, but it feels the same but better. Hoping the optical switches solve the short lifespan problem.

Yes, it is quite good! Makes a nice click and has a nice feel and better textures in the rubber material so it is easy to clean. Plus it is noticeably lighter. Innovation at its finest!

I've had a G502 X Lightspeed for about a week, and so far I like everything about it, except for the wheel. With free spin it's extremely loose and shaking the mouse it even simply moving it more abruptly will produce scroll events; with ratchet, it's extremely loud and clunky, it's basically impossible to use for scrolling, only as discrete single clicks forward and backward.

I just returned a g502x, decided there's no getting used to how loud the switches are.

Got a G502X lightspeed. Shape is good for my hand. The switches feel good. Lots of buttons are good to have. But it sometimes makes a little drift after stopping.

No. Get out of Logitech as soon as you can, they had awesome products in the past, but at this time their quality is trash. I say this because 3 of 3 devices I recently had developed problems as soon as warranty expired, including my G502. Everything was treated with great care.

I owned the G502 Lightspeed and bought the G502 X Lightspeed when my gf loved macros on the g502 hero but wanted a wireless one. There is little to no difference aside from the easier clicks I guess. The DPI/thumb button is so much better though since it's closer. I wouldn't suggest going for the G502 X Plus unless you really want to dish out since it's just RGB.

This mouse has the worst scroller I ever had to use. Switches are so loud and clucky. The mouse feels cheap. Sometimes it doesn't click and I suppose is due to ergonomics, as my fingers are not so long and I press the buttons somewhere in the middle. I would not recommend this mouse, for which I paid 75 euro.

My mouse is a 4tech X7 f6, an old wired mouse. I bought a 502 x, but I'm not happy with it. It's loud — the loudest mouse I've ever heard. The weight distribution is due to the metal scroll wheel — the balance is poor. The shape is uncomfortable — it doesn't fit properly in your hand — you have to hold it down with your pinky — it takes some getting used to and retraining.

For the charging port alone go for the X. I usually don't mind minor inconveniences with most of my tech but the charging port on the G502 lightspeed is so annoying it nearly ruins an almost perfect mouse. It's Micro-USB instead of C, super deeply seated in the mouse — so MANY chargers don't fit. It's upside down.

No reason to go non-X. X has the new switches. I just upgraded from a 502 hero to the X Plus Lightspeed with the PowerPlay 2 charging pad.

Wired G502x is the G502 to buy, IMO. By far the lightest weight, and also only about half the price of this.

I'm using the G502x Lightspeed after using every iteration of the 502. Only reason I didn't get the 'g502x plus lightspeed' is cause I didn't care about the RGB anymore, and it was like $25-30 cheaper. The optical switches are really nice, although they do sound a bit different to the old g502.

Nothing compares to the G502. Weight doesn't bother me since I use high DPI/sensitivity and I'm not whipping it around the mouse pad. I actually like the weight. It feels nice moving it and doesn't feel like some cheap mouse that barely has $10 worth of crap in it.

I've owned the Logitech G402 since 2019 and absolutely love it, especially for its extra button. However, the double-click issue has become a nightmare. I'm looking at the Logitech G502 X wired, but I'm not confident in this decision.

I purchased the original G502 in 2014. I made no upgrades. It still works, never developed double click. My only 'issue' it has had in 10 years is the wrapping on the cable is a little frayed now. It's not even impacting performance. Also, mouse shape — there's no other mice I've found in this shape that I like more.

I have two G502 X Plus. I've gotten into the habit of adding grip tape to deal with sweat and oils. I replace them annually and expect this mouse to last for years.
