Summary

The Logitech G502 X Plus is a wireless gaming mouse that's earned a loyal following among fans of the original G502 lineup, particularly those who want a feature-rich ergo mouse without sacrificing wireless performance. Reddit sentiment is broadly positive, with users praising its exceptional battery life, improved optical switches that eliminate double-click issues, and comfortable ergonomics suited to larger hands and palm grip. The mouse occupies a clear niche: it's not for competitive FPS players chasing sub-80g ultralight mice, but rather for productivity users, MMO/RTS gamers, and anyone who wants a capable all-rounder with scroll wheel versatility. Price is the most consistent point of friction, with many users arguing the non-RGB G502 X Lightspeed offers better value. The transition from the original G502 is generally seen as an upgrade, though some long-time fans mourn the loss of the metal scroll wheel and weight customization.

Pros

  • Battery life is genuinely outstanding — users report multiple weeks of use between charges even with moderate RGB, and the PowerPlay wireless charging pad eliminates the cable concern almost entirely
  • Optical LIGHTFORCE switches have effectively solved the chronic double-click failures that plagued earlier G502 and Lightspeed models, with users noting switches outlasting previous generations
  • Ergonomics favor medium-to-large hands in palm grip, with the removable sniper button allowing grip customization and multiple users citing relief from hand pain after switching from other mice
  • Scroll wheel offers both ratchet and free-spin modes via a mechanical toggle, making it genuinely useful across gaming and productivity contexts like spreadsheets and document navigation
  • USB-C charging and faster charge cycles compared to older G502 variants, with the X Plus charging significantly quicker than the original Lightspeed
  • Onboard memory support makes it usable without software installation, a meaningful advantage over MX Master series for locked-down work environments

Cons

  • RGB version adds weight and costs a premium while being largely invisible under your palm during use — most users agree the non-RGB G502 X Lightspeed is the smarter buy at ~$25-30 less
  • The rubber scroll wheel is a step down from the original G502's metal wheel in feel and perceived quality, and some users report it feeling cheaper or rattly
  • At 106g, the mouse is heavy relative to competing wireless mice — the Pro X Superlight 2 and similar ultralight options are nearly half the weight, making this a poor fit for low-sens FPS players
  • The two extra buttons left of the left click are prone to accidental presses and remain a persistent ergonomic complaint across multiple Reddit threads
  • Optical switch acoustics divide users — the clicks have a springy, hollow sound that some find off-putting compared to the quieter tactility of older mechanical switches
  • G HUB software remains a friction point, particularly for disabling RGB which requires navigating multiple menus, and general software reliability complaints persist

The Scroll Wheel Downgrade Nobody Warned You About

Long-time G502 users are split on the X Plus's rubber scroll wheel replacing the original metal flywheel. It's lighter and less prone to rust, but several Reddit veterans say spinning that metal disk was half the appeal — and the new one just doesn't feel as premium.

You're Paying $30 for RGB You Can't See

The most consistent value complaint on Reddit isn't the price of the mouse itself — it's paying a premium for the Plus's RGB lighting that your palm covers 100% of the time you're actually using it. The non-RGB G502 X Lightspeed gets the same sensor, switches, and battery at a lower price.

Surprisingly Good for Office and Productivity Work

A notable thread of Reddit users praise the G502 X Plus not for gaming, but for all-day desk use — the free-spin scroll wheel, onboard memory (no software required), and ergonomic shape make it a legitimate MX Master alternative for users on locked-down work machines.

Honestly, the new one just doesn't have the same metallic scroll wheel and just is a big off for me imo. Id say g502 lightspeed.

Honestly you wasted your money spending extra on the RGB version, all you get is significantly less battery life and have a shitty light you can't even see because your palm is covering it at all times.

Idk if these are worth +$100. I picked up a couple refurbished ones during a sale for $80 and they perform well but feels kinda cheap. They should be $70 retail imo.

I prefer the buttons on the X but I do miss the weight of the old flywheel. Spinning that big metal disk for no reason felt good.

Like literally everything feels like a significant upgrade. The clicks, the mouse wheel, its lighter and the rubber is new this time around lol. And I hope the optical switches means I don't have to deal with double clicking for another decade. Kinda bought this on a whim with little research done beforehand since I needed a new mouse right away and I'm glad I made the perfect choice haha. I recommend this mouse to everyone.

I have a wireless G502X non-Plus (same thing minus the RGB) and completely disagree. Mine feels solid and everything else about it is perfect. The wireless hasn't even had a blip and the battery lasts for weeks. That said, the Plus version is dumb. You're paying a premium for RGB that destroys battery life and is covered by your hand when using it.

It has optical switches, which is probably the 'cheap' feel you are getting. Took me awhile to get used to it. But no double clicking like the g502 was getting for people.

I have the RGB wireless version and I've enjoyed mine. The buttons and build feel very premium, the skates aren't bad, and the wireless performance is very good. Good battery life as well. My only complaint is Logi really needs to upgrade to a paracord cable.

It is a really good mouse. Expensive, yes but not at all crap tier. I much prefer this type of mouse for playing MMOs over the Razer Naga style mice with a phone keypad on the side.

I've used variants of the 502 for many years, and they've both performed well AND Logitech has been the least-annoying company I've dealt with on warranty issues.

Once I rested my hand on it, it was like as if it would moulded for my hand. I've been using it intensely for a week now and not experienced any pain at all. My only gripe with the mouse is I keep accidentally pressing the 2 buttons left of the left click, but it's occasional, and doesn't bother me really.

I have the G502X Plus, and I really like it - it feels really well built, the general ergonomics of the mouse and new button sizes/placement feel a lot better than previous versions of the G502 to me, and it feels better for bigger hands as well. The battery life is absolutely insane. I have had it for 2.5 weeks, using it for 12+ hours a day and it's still at 44% battery. While the cable does suck, you probably only have to use it around once a month.

If you already have a g502, and don't have a g502x, I see no reason to spend the money. If you have neither a g502 or a g502x, then get a g502x I guess, but be conscious of the fact that logitech released this product because it's good for shareholders, not because it's good for consumers, and their products are getting objectively worse as the years roll by.

I've gone from the G502 Wired to the G502 Lightspeed in black, then decided to get the G502 X Plus Lightspeed in White and move my black G502 to my office. I've thoroughly enjoyed the G502 and X Plus. I would HIGHLY recommend to any of the owners that you pick up the Logitech Powerpad and free yourself from the cabling.

Refurbished direct from Logitech store in ebay is great - I paid 60 bucks for one basically new and I love it.

The G502 and G502 X are two completely different mice. The X is a redesigned version of the non-X, which has had the same basic design since the first wired model of the G502 launched many years ago. The X also has new switches, which are hopefully more durable than the garbage used in the regular G502. I'm on my third G502 Lightspeed, second warranty replacement, since it launched in 2019 and the left click is beginning to fail on this one too.

Same, I think I'm just gonna go with a clone when mine gives out. Keychron M7 is pretty much the same thing for half the price.

All buttons on the mouse are very tactile and crisp, no mushyness at all, not on the new light buttons, not the others for dpi switch etc, all crisp to perfection and no wobble.

I'm testing a White pro. Coming from the original cabled 502 proteus core, the feeling is great (a lot less bulky), switches are ok, hoping they will last as long as the older ones. The new longer dpi side button is finally reachable for me. I think that they screwed up a bit removing the profile/dpi indicator.

I have both, the G502 fits my hand better. Something feels weird with the G502x.

That thing is the bread and butter of my desktop. I've been using it since launch, and it's the best mouse I ever had. The switches already out lasted both my 903s that each lasted a year before I had to replace the switches in them.

I have MxM4 and G502X plus, the 502 is excellent, feels so good in the hand and great customisability.

Yep nothing compares to the g502. I'm sure they will keep updating it and dropping the weight. Weight doesn't bother me though since I use high dpi/sensitivity and I'm not whipping it around the mouse pad. I actually like the weight. It feels nice moving it and doesn't feel like some cheap mouse that barely has $10 worth of crap in it.

I'm using the G502x light speed after using every iteration of the 502. Only reason I didn't get the 'g502x plus light speed' is cause I didn't care about the rgb anymore, and it was like $25-30 cheaper. The optical switches are really nice, although they do sound a bit different to the old g502.

This mouse is still getting sold, so I might as well give my little review after 2,5 years of owning my first one. Yes, I said first, because this thing gave up on me after 6 months of use. The mouse wouldn't turn on anymore so I had to send it back under warranty. Today we're another 2 years later and the scroll wheel just stopped working, making it yet again useless. I love the feel in my hand, the responsiveness, the thumb rest and the buttons, but the build quality is terrible from my experience.

I just got this mouse and am returning it. The left and right mouse buttons' click sounds are way too springy and loud. The G703 is much better and less than half the price. I'm returning the g502 x plus and buying a spare G703.

I still use both on a daily basis, the g502 lightspeed at work and the X Plus at home, both are great really, but I would choose the X over the lightspeed due to it having a usb C port, it charges super fast, it's a little bit lighter and overall has a smoother feeling to me. I've been a huge fan of the g502 series. You can literally get any version, and it will be amazing.

I went from g502 ls to g502x ls. At first, I was iffy on it, but I like it a lot more now, better battery life was a huge reason, usb c also nice.

The regular is really good other than the double clicking issue. I got the x just so I don't have to deal with that again.

I vote for the X! I have and I love it, I feel it's a little bit wider and it fits better in my hand. I bought the G502 X (white) on Amazon for 68 euros (used, but in great condition). Unfortunately, after six months, the left click stopped working. Since it was still under warranty, I reached out to Logitech, and they sent me a new identical mouse. So now, I have two G502s for a total of 68 euros — I just need to fix the first one.

I just got the G502X and I love it. Upgraded from the G203. Surprisingly the G502X is only a few grams heavier than my G203. I prefer lighter mice, which is the main reason i went with the G502X. I also prefer the 'sleeker' look. I'm probably in the minority, but i prefer the lighter scroll wheel. IMO it feels 'notchier' and makes it easier to scroll hotbar slots in games.

yes, they made it 20g lighter even with batteries inside... Which I don't like, but I'm not a gamer, so I like heavy 'tanky' feel of original. Also there are bunch of small differences in body shell. Wheel is much cheaper on X plus, that rubber sux. But it is possible to install old metal wheel, I've seen some guys doing such mods.

The clicking sound is loud and shit, I was using g502 for 2 years then wireless one. They both got super nice quiet sound of clicking. New one's sound is terrible idk. Rest is good.

I went with the wired variant because I don't use it for FPS games. I like it, took a bit of adjusting compared to my Proteus, but its great for RTS / ARPG type games.

Wired G502x is the G502 to buy, IMO. By far the lightest weight, and also only about half the price of this.

G502 was the mouse i felt the most comfortable with, nothing comes close. Mine was the original blue led one. My GPX2 is nowhere near as comfy but its so light and so effortless to move around that its still a lot less stressful on my hand compared to the original g502. I may get another g502 in the future again, i'm starting to miss that shape.

I used the g502 light speed for about 2 years and the buttons went bad. Both around the same time the right mouse button more than the left. I know they put much better switches in the g502 x plus. I ordered a pre-owned one for 89.99 from logitech. They are having a really good sale.

Not OP but yes you can remove and flip the aim-dpi button, they even give you a smaller one in the box to swap out. I have smallish hands and the way it comes works just fine for me, when i flip the switch it feels like I have to choke up on the mouse a bit.

I just bought the older one g502 lightspeed just bc of the price difference(40 dollars). If money wasn't an issue I would've gone with the newer one bc of usb c and better battery life. Also i like the aggressive look of the older one.

The two buttons next to the left click are the worst design decision of the G502 in my opinion. I never tried the new G502 but I ended up disabling them completely when I was using the old one.
