Summary

The Zaunkoenig M2K is a hyper-niche, handcrafted German fingertip mouse that inspires genuine passion from its fans and serious skepticism from everyone else. It weighs around 23 grams, is built from carbon fiber, and runs driverless at native 8,000 Hz — specs that make it objectively impressive on paper. Reddit sentiment is deeply split: owners who main it for competitive shooters like Valorant, CS, and Overwatch swear by the micro-adjustment precision and the sensation of aiming with near-zero resistance, while critics argue the price-to-value ratio is indefensible at €299–€340 when wireless alternatives exist at a fraction of the cost. A 2024 scam PSA thread with 136 upvotes revealed serious fulfillment problems, with one customer waiting 8+ months and being ghosted repeatedly — though they eventually received a refund after going public on Reddit. This is not a mass-market mouse; it's a handbuilt, made-to-order product made by two brothers in Germany, and that philosophy cuts both ways.

Pros

  • Weighs approximately 23 grams — one of the lightest mice ever made — which owners say creates a sensation of aiming with no resistance at all, enabling faster micro-adjustments in competitive FPS games
  • Driverless native 8,000 Hz polling with a PixArt 3399 sensor means zero software dependency and objectively minimal input latency — the lowest click lag of any mouse according to some community members
  • Carbon fiber unibody shell is a genuine engineering achievement: hand-assembled in Germany with high-quality materials, and the PCB has been praised as a 'work of art' by teardown reviewers
  • Pure fingertip grip endgame — for players transitioning to fingertip style who want the smallest, flattest, most precise option, Reddit users consistently call this the final destination
  • M3K improved on the M2K's weakest point (stiff cable) with a noticeably thinner, lighter cable that owners say feels wireless — good signal that Zaunkoenig iterates based on feedback
  • 30-day return policy gives buyers a meaningful trial window, which partially offsets the inability to test before purchasing

Cons

  • €299–€340 price tag is extremely hard to justify when wireless fingertip alternatives like the G-Wolves ASYM weigh 20 grams and cost a fraction of the price — Reddit repeatedly makes this comparison
  • No side buttons by design — Zaunkoenig's philosophy is that side buttons and fingertip grip are mutually exclusive, which is a hard dealbreaker for many buyers who find this position unconvincing
  • Fulfillment and customer support failures are documented and serious: a 2024 thread exposed 8+ months of waiting, months of ghosting, and blame-deflecting responses — the company only replied after public Reddit pressure
  • Quality control inconsistencies at this price point are unacceptable: one owner reported a milky blemish on the carbon fiber shell and uneven skate measurements, and felt unable to return it after a 7-week wait
  • Wired-only with no wireless option, which is increasingly hard to defend in a market where wireless mice match or exceed wired latency — critics on Reddit point out that 'wireless feeling wired' is not a substitute for actually wireless
  • Extremely narrow shape with a wide front and narrow back is divisive even among fingertip users — multiple owners noted the unusual geometry feels wrong and wish the sides were more parallel

Owners Call It Endgame. Critics Call It a Scam.

The M2K has some of the most devoted fans in the mouse community — players who've mained it for 2+ years across Valorant, CS, and Overwatch. But a high-upvote 2024 thread exposed real fulfillment failures that damaged trust significantly, and the company's habit of ghosting customers for months before responding only after Reddit pressure is not a good look for a €340 product.

You're Buying Someone Else's Dream Mouse

One of the most-upvoted M2K critiques on Reddit nails the fundamental tension: for a handbuilt, premium-priced product with a 4–5 week lead time, Zaunkoenig offers almost zero customization — no cable choice, no switch preference, no encoder option. You accept their vision completely or you don't buy it.

The Shape Is Still Polarizing Even Among Fingertip Fans

Even buyers who love the M2K's weight and sensor often take issue with the geometry — a design that's narrower at the back and wider at the front, which is the opposite of most fingertip mice. Multiple owners mentioned adapting to it rather than loving it immediately, and a few said they'd prefer parallel sides.

I like that they attempted to deflect blame 8 months after an order, instead of just owning the mess up. Hopefully you get your refund shortly.

Charge back bro they're taking the mick, not even anything to compensate you and the audacity to expect you to wait nearly a year for a mouse you paid 340 Euros for lol.

Contact your bank for a charge back. You have a paper trail with proof that they stole your money. Easy charge back case.

Why even pay 340€ (400$) for this shitty mouse in the first place?

wow the least shilling and most honest review I've seen on this mouse yet. Love how you point out that even though you pay premium price, you cannot get what you want.... you're not buying YOUR dream mouse, you're buying SOMEBODY Else's dream mouse. Which is honestly a huge compromise.

It's a tough mouse to critique because it's legitimately really good. The issue is that there's a few significant compromises you have to make to use it and it's constructed in such a way that you probably shouldn't be tampering with it out of the box. The fact each is hand assembled in Germany by the brothers with a 4-5 week lead time just makes me think they should really be offering more customer options like cable, switch and encoder preference.

Zaunkoenig isn't one to compromise on their philosophy. 'Side buttons and dedicated Fingertip Grip design are mutually exclusive' — I disagree with them though.

Surprisingly worth it imo, its like a new experience. Just go for it if you dislike it you can easily resell.

I'll admit, making people wait 9 months on a pre-order is a joke, that's not acceptable. But I've been rolling with Zaunkoenig since the m1k Kickstarter days, and they've delivered every time.

I play a ton of Valorant and have been maining the m1k (& m2k when it came out) for about 7-8 months now. I went from GPRO Wireless -> CM MM710 -> M1K -> M2K and if you're dead set on fingertip grip, this is the endgame imo.

I remember when the M3K was talked about. Half the comments were people bitching about it being wired. It's amazing that an enthusiast subreddit can't fathom why some products might choose one design over another.

Making people wait 9 months on a pre-order is a joke, that's not acceptable. The audacity to ghost you for 6 months and then tell you to wait some more for tariffs and customs when you placed the order MONTHS prior to the tariffs. They should compensate you for time wasted and withholding money for no product.

I'd be fine with the cost if I could try it first.

I mainly play RTS games and have mained the M2K for the past 2 years. The M3K cable is way better — it's thinner, lighter, and more flexible. I can't feel the influence of the M3K cable when sweeping the mouse across the pad, whereas the M2K cable was clearly tugging against my hand. It's very close to wireless IMO.

I don't think the market is undersaturated, I think this is just a super niche product type so they want to make a really good product and make some money off it. If you want a pure fingertip experience, this is really your only option, but most people are more than happy settling with a Viper mini than dropping $350 on a mouse.

Only 300 euro? Sold. Seriously though why spend that amount of money on this, I am so confused. Can't even try the mouse before spending that cash.

It's hard to control the mouse and use side buttons with the grip they are aiming at. I'd buy one now, but it's not a good month for me and superfluous purchases.

Update: after 4 days of this post being live, I got 2 responses from zaunkoenig and a confirmed refund. About time I got a response and a refund, it's just a shame that I have to blast a company on reddit to finally get a reply after months of ghosting. Not good business practices at all, will not be considering this company again.

M2K is very good at making micro adjustments. I play overwatch which is a very fast paced shooter and the micro adjustments helped me get a lot of kills on tiny fast moving targets that I otherwise wouldn't have gotten. If you do decide to buy it, get the matte version because the glossy version is slippery.

I own an M2K & M1K — personally if you like the MZ1 both of these mice are much different due to the narrow grip width. I would only invest in an M2K if you REALLY want to get rid of the length, at risk of losing comfort.

I have the M1K. Would prefer if the sides were more parallel rather than being narrower at the back and wider at the front.

Didn't expect this behaviour — the creators were even on German TV trying to find an Investor on Shark Tank but the Investor said no after the show. Somehow they managed to produce the M1K still, but it seems like they can't keep up with demand — 8 months waiting time is wild.

To be a scam there has to be some dishonesty involved, like not getting the thing you paid for, or lying about performance — not just being expensive or a bad deal. If you want a product that one guy makes by hand, it's going to cost more than a similar product mass manufactured. You're paying for that one guy's time.

I own the M2K and I do not understand why they decided to do a narrow back and a wide front. It should be the opposite or more parallel — the geometry feels wrong.

I used my M3K for 1 year now. I will never use any other mouse for gaming. It feels like I'm gaming with no mouse at all, like its becoming a part of my hand. Its worth every dollar in my opinion.

Sounds to me like they are just trying to run out the time on the dispute delay for whatever payment processor you used, so you have no way of getting your money back from them and they can just permanently ghost you.

Is the M3K actually worth $360 and do you like it and do you aim better with it? Is it worth getting or do I save this $360?

Some of these comments are toxic — I just want to enjoy my mouse, not care what anyone thinks of it. It's a great mouse and I love the grip, it's amazing.

There are reasons: production is in Germany, longevity, serviceability, open source firmware, no software needed. The thing that makes it so expensive is the carbon shell, you can buy the inner components for 120€ separately.
