Summary

The Acer Nitro XV272U W2bmiiprx is a budget 27" 1440p 240Hz IPS monitor that Reddit treats as a high-risk, high-reward gamble. Sentiment is genuinely split: users who scored a good panel rave about the value, while others hit flickering, greenish color casts out of the box, or QC defects within months. The monitor earned an F-tier rating from Monitors Unboxed due to panel consistency issues, but the community consensus is that Amazon's easy return policy changes the calculus entirely. It's aimed squarely at budget-conscious gamers who want 240Hz at the lowest possible IPS price point and are willing to exchange a unit if needed.

Pros

  • Consistently one of the cheapest 1440p 240Hz IPS monitors available, regularly selling for $200–$230 — roughly $100 less than comparable alternatives like the HP OMEN 27qs
  • Users with good units report excellent image quality, smooth 240Hz performance, and colors that hold up well after calibration
  • 99% sRGB coverage and DisplayHDR 400 support provide solid color range for a budget panel
  • HDMI 2.1 ports enable PS5/Xbox Series X VRR and ALLM support, a rare feature at this price tier
  • VESA 100x100 mount compatibility gives flexibility for arm setups
  • Those upgrading from 1080p or 144Hz panels consistently describe the jump as dramatic and immediately noticeable

Cons

  • Monitors Unboxed awarded an F-tier rating citing panel quality inconsistency — some users report flickering, dead pixels, or bottom-row pixel failure within months of use
  • Overdrive is locked when AMD FreeSync Premium is enabled, a design decision Acer repeats across its monitor lineup that significantly impacts motion clarity below 240Hz
  • 240Hz is only achievable via DisplayPort — HDMI ports are capped at 144Hz despite being labeled HDMI 2.1
  • Out-of-box color accuracy is poor with a visible greenish cast; requires manual RGB calibration (reduce green to ~43, raise red to ~52) before it looks correct
  • Coil whine at 240Hz has been reported on the VG272U W2 sibling model, and response times advertised as 0.5ms are achieved only via extreme overdrive that introduces heavy overshoot
  • Wobbly stand and no premium build quality — Acer positions this as a specs-first monitor with no frills

The Panel Lottery Nobody Minds Playing

Reddit's consensus isn't that this monitor is bad — it's that you might get a bad unit. With Amazon's free returns, most users treat it as a try-before-you-commit deal at a price that undercuts every comparable IPS 240Hz option.

240Hz Only Through DisplayPort: HDMI 2.1 Is a Half-Truth

Despite listing HDMI 2.1 ports prominently, the XV272U W2 caps HDMI connections at 144Hz. Buyers expecting full 240Hz over HDMI — especially console gamers — are consistently caught off guard.

FreeSync Kills Overdrive — A Known Acer Problem Nobody Fixed

Acer's decision to disable overdrive when FreeSync is active isn't new to this model, but it keeps frustrating buyers who discover it after purchase. At framerates below 240Hz, motion clarity takes a real hit.

I just saw the F tier rating on Monitors Unboxed just now lol, this is obviously a response from Acer, that said I bought mine in May this year and got one that did not flicker and love it, phew! Spent $300...remember if you don't like it you can just return it.

Monitors Unboxed had a handful of issues with this monitor that being said at $230 I think it's worth checking out if you're in the market for a 1440P 240Hz since it's so much cheaper, if you have issues just return it, Amazon has easy returns.

That's the lowest i've seen a 1440p 240hz IPS panel from a well known brand.

I got the 144hz version a few years back for ~$200 and it's great. It only had 1 stuck pixel and I hardly notice it. The 240hz version for $200 seems like a no brainer.

I've had trouble finding a ton of reviews for this monitor, and those I have seen have reported some inconsistency suggesting quality control issues. But I'm willing to play the panel lottery for this price!

I have a Amazon prime membership and have been seriously considering pulling the trigger on the 165hz version of this monitor by Acer at $250, at $300 I just bought this right away and will ask questions later because of Amazon's great return policy.

I just returned this monitor yesterday. Visuals were fine for my standards, but there was a notable coil whine when set to 240hz refresh. The only way to make it dead silent was setting it down to 60hz, which kind of defeated one of the main purposes of the monitor for me.

It's a 'technically the truth' marketing shtick. Yeah it can get a 0.5ms response time in g2g, by overdriving the shit out of the pixels and introducing a massive amount of overshoot that makes the mode unusable. Realistically, most good IPS monitors are like 4-7ms real world response times.

I actually own the 180hz version of this monitor and got it for the same price it's listed now here, at Microcenter. No problems at all with it. Only complaint is it cycles through the display choices every time once I boot my PC. Can recommend.

Prime definition of good deal on paper but you get what you pay for.

Price looks really good for the specs on paper. No reviews though. I've been waiting for 240hz 1440p IPS at this price point for months now. Unsure if I should follow through.

Monitors Unboxed gave this Acer monitor a pretty negative review compared to the G274QPX. So it's hard to say if the QC issues with the Acer monitor and potentially worse performance at anything lower than 240Hz is worth it over $50.

Surprised at the lack of a VESA mount, seems like a very standard thing to drop on a monitor like this.

Mild buyers regret for getting the G274QPX at $400 on Black Friday, the $50 is worth the extra month and a half of use but this thing has a more compact stand and my desk is not very deep.

In for one. I had kind of wanted to buy another Dell S2721DGF to match my current one, but why spend more for 2+ year old technology.

The only consequence is potentially having to process a return/replacement. There's a chance you get a bad unit (maybe higher chance than other products relatively) but if you dont then you get the same specs for $100 less. You only screw yourself over here if you choose not to return a bad unit.

That flickering looks like one of the LEDs doesn't have a stable connection. Maybe a bad solder point or whatnot. Yeah, you'll probably have to return it.

I have a 3080 and a 240hz monitor and can hit it in a surprising number of games. Even on newer games on high settings you can get around 200 fps. Obviously won't work if you max out everything like ray tracing but DLSS helps a lot either way.

With monitors they just keep making some really, really bad design choices (like locking overdrive with Gsync/freesync enabled on all of their monitors) for god knows what reason. Seriously Acer. Why do you keep doing this lmao. I would have an acer monitor on my desk right now if that weren't the case.

Acer Nitro IPS based monitors tend to be surprisingly good for the price. There are seemingly about a dozen different versions of the XV272U with a wide range of different refresh rates, model years, and with or without speakers. Is it any good? Hard to tell for sure, but it's certainly decent.

I just got this monitor and installed. Two issues so far: Out of the box, the color looks greenish, need to adjust the RGB, reduce the green to 43 and increase the red to 52 ish. Also despite it's HDMI 2.1, 240hz cannot be set up using the hdmi cable.

Mine came today. Like you noted, has warm greenish color out of the box. Tried playing with settings but no dice so far. Will probably return if i cant get the color right. I have it next to the AOC deal from a few years back and the AOC has much more accurate color as of now.

Just got this monitor today. 8-bit panel@240hz, 10-bit@170hz, overdrive disabled when Freesync enabled, black levels seen better than my HP27q. It feels like the beginning of a new wave of cheaper 240hz monitors. I suspect 240hz is the new 144hz.

The monitor was fine for me though. V version is a bit brighter, but W2 was pretty ok considering the price and the high refresh rate. I might be just unlucky. I hope other people will write proper reviews.

This is a crazy price/deal. If I didn't have a 240hz monitor already I would buy this. Especially paying $758 for mine a year ago.

I own the XV272U W2bmiiprx and I'm pretty happy with it. It looked pretty bad out of the box but once you calibrate it it was good. At the time I got it last year at this price it was great.

I am a gamer and movie watcher, I currently run 3 x Acer Nitro monitors. I couldn't be more happy with the Acer Nitro line. Maybe if I had very expensive/better spec monitors to compare side by side, I would be able to know the difference. I've had these monitors for about 3 years now and haven't had any issues.

It's been phenomenal!! I have 0 complaints with this monitor except that I didn't buy 2. The color looks fantastic and if you're switching from 1080p you will be blown away. I'm sure there are higher end options out there but I think for the price there isn't anything better!

I just got mine from Amazon for 250$ and I'm really disappointed but wondering if it's the settings or something? I'm getting blur when playing mlb the show 25 and the picture was better on my tcl tv. I don't know if it's working right or what but def disappointed so far.

I have a LG 27" IPS 4k 60hz and wanted a second monitor for gaming. Side by side with the LG and all I can say is that fonts look like crap on this thing. I had to turn off Super Sharpening in the menu but still, it is just bad compared to my LG. I'm thinking I need to return this and just pay the premium to get a 4k gaming monitor.

I picked this up as a 2nd monitor to my 144hz 4k main monitor. TBH I'm unable to do 60hz nowadays. It's been quite good for my use case, and I've recently been using it as the primary monitor due to my GPU/CPU running better at 2k vs 4k.

I have a XV272U and the VG272U W2 side by side. The chassis is identical except the stands but I VESA mount anyway. The colors are more accurate on the XV272U and no matter how much I calibrate them with my spyder they won't match, which is kind of annoying sometimes but not a big deal.

I just turned off freesync and kept it that way due to inverse overshooting issues at lower framerates.

Cheapest 240Hz i've seen, also from a name brand, color accuracy could be better but for that price for 240Hz i can't complain.
