Summary

The Acer Nitro EDA270U P is a budget-friendly 27-inch curved VA panel targeting gamers who want 1440p resolution and 170Hz refresh rate without breaking the bank. Reddit's overall sentiment is cautiously positive — most buyers feel the price-to-specs ratio is hard to beat, especially for casual and console gaming. The main recurring friction is VA panel ghosting and black smearing, which makes it less ideal for competitive fast-paced titles like CS2. The 250-nit peak brightness is consistently flagged as a limitation, though most indoor users find it workable. For the price point, Reddit broadly agrees this is a solid entry-level 1440p upgrade.

Pros

  • Excellent value for 1440p at 170Hz — Reddit regularly highlighted it as one of the best specs-per-dollar options under $200, hard to match at this price tier
  • 1500R curved display works well for productivity and multi-window setups, with several users praising it specifically for having multiple windows open simultaneously
  • Comes bundled with both DisplayPort and HDMI cables out of the box, a small but appreciated touch for budget buyers
  • Built-in speakers add utility for users who want a clean desk setup or travel with their rig, even if they're not audiophile-grade
  • Strong contrast and rich colors typical of VA panels make it a good pick for movies and video content in darker rooms
  • Console gaming (Xbox Series X/S, PS5) works well at 1440p/120Hz via DisplayPort, with HDR10 support as a bonus even if it's not reference-grade

Cons

  • VA black smearing and ghosting is noticeable in fast-paced games — multiple users specifically called out dark scenes in titles like Warzone and Cyberpunk as visually messy
  • 250-nit peak brightness is below the 300–400 nit range many recommend; bright-room users or those near windows will feel the limitation
  • Non-height-adjustable stand limits ergonomic flexibility; VESA mounting is an option but cable routing from the rear-facing inputs complicates it
  • Rear-positioned display inputs are described as 'downright moronic' by at least one user, making cable management awkward especially with a wall-mount setup
  • Dead pixel reports appear more than once across threads — Acer's warranty threshold of more than 5 dead pixels leaves some buyers without recourse
  • FreeSync can cause flickering at certain framerates; one owner recommended disabling it entirely after experiencing responsiveness issues

VA Ghosting Is the Real Test

Owners who game casually or play strategy titles generally love it, but those coming from IPS panels in fast-paced shooters notice the black smearing immediately. If you're a CS2 or Valorant player, Reddit says look elsewhere.

The Best Budget 1440p You'll Actually Regret Passing

Under $200 for 27-inch 1440p at 170Hz is genuinely rare, and Reddit kept returning to this monitor whenever budget 1440p discussions came up. The compromises are real, but so is the value.

Console Users Are Surprisingly Happy With It

Multiple PS5 and Xbox Series X owners chimed in across threads saying the monitor works well for console gaming, with 1440p/120Hz confirmed functional. The HDR experience is modest but appreciated.

This is a budget monitor, it is about what you would expect. It is also curved which makes it much more difficult to make with IPS, and that also means that it offsets a lot of the qualms that make VA bad. IPS would be nice but for this price, these specs are great

VA panels usually have poor viewing angles meaning you have to sit pretty much right in front of it or it will look weird. A lot of VA panels also have problems where dark colors leave a smeary trail on the screen, making motion rendering with dark colors look bad.

This is the 2023 model of the XV27U, which had 170hz and 400 nits brightness. The notable differences are that this current model has 180hz and 250 nits. So a slight hit to brightness.

It is a solid monitor all around for more casual gaming but it has one flaw. It is pretty dim. Like noticeably dim.

The major downsides are the stand isn't height adjustable, the panel isn't that bright at 250 nits and only has sRGB color gamut, and the rear location of the display inputs and audio out is also downright moronic.

DisplayPort 1.2 and HDMI 1.4 are both old standards. Certain hardware needs a specific version to perform its best. Xbox Series X/S require HDMI 2.0/2.1 to run at 1440P and 120Hz.

I like VA panels, less eye stress. I have switched from IPS to VA.

250 nits is fine for most applications. The sub 200 price for a 1440p, 180hz monitor is incredible. Several people here and on buildapcmonitors were hoping for a deal like this. Here it is.

Generally speaking VA panels have higher contrast ratios which make for better dark room viewing, richer contrast, and deeper blacks.

This is NOT IPS, this is definitely a VA Panel, and the curve is usually a give away for VA Panels. The Acer recertified store is wrong, the biggest give away is the price, there is no curved IPS at this price, and there are very few curved IPS in general.

I have the ED272QUR, which is 1440p, 144Hz, curved. I love it and I would totally recommend this newer version which also has speakers and is 165Hz.

VA panel i checked the model number, this is likely an error on ACER's part. I dont think there are any curved IPS on the market, VA or OLED on the other hand have curved panels.

As someone who had this issue, Acer did a bait and switch where they advertised an IPS and then changed it to VA on the listing after selling. Be careful

I actually have this monitor. I have an issue where during gameplay (or even during regular browsing!) It will go into diagnostic mode/color cycling, and turning the monitor on and off is the only way to fix it.

I have a couple of acer nitros, and one of them got a patch of 5 dead pixels only 2 months in. And of course, acer's warranty only covers more than 5 dead pixels. But for under 150, they are still pretty damn good for the price.

I tried a curved 1440p VA panel, and just could not do it. It was cool, but the ghosting and smearing was so noticeable especially at 160hz. Sold it and went right back to IPS.

Does it have HDR? Yes. Is it any good, not even. The panel just doesn't get bright enough to have proper HDR. It is still a great value for everything else. Just don't go into it expecting to have usable HDR.

It is not very bright. But it has hdr. It is 144hz with overclock dp at 170 hz. Comes with a dp and hdmi cable. The stand is actually decent at this price point. It is metal.

I just got a couple of acer monitors and I have dead pixels on one of them less than two months in. Their website says that you need more than 5 dead pixels to be covered under warranty, so I am kinda screwed since it is a patch of exactly 5. I just want to warn people buying cheap monitors like this.

Been using a pair of the older 144hz versions of this model for last 2 years. Love them, don't have any issues.

Acer is pretty notorious for having nonsensical version names. I have heard of things like missing USB inputs, even different panels. It is good if you need a 1440p monitor at $200, but monitors like G2724D are better products.

VA good for movies and videos. And fine for 60fps gaming. But black smearing is a big issue on cheap VA panels, so VA monitors are not good for fast paced games at high fps.

I bought this monitor in late 2021 for close to this price. Response times are not super fast and there is some slight ghosting (ghosting is quite high on default settings, make a custom profile and use black boost and high sharpness to get around it). I use this monitor for Halo Infinite and it is decent for a controller player. Not recommended for twitchy stuff like CS:GO. This is my main productivity monitor and the curve is great for having multiple windows open on the same screen.

purchased 2, 2nd unit has a cluster of about 8 dead pixels on the right side but otherwise performed well so far. Gonna have to exchange the 2nd unit this weekend though, hopefully they still have a few in stock or ima have to RMA.

been using one for a few days, had freesync on (3060 gpu) and it would flicker at some screens really annoyingly, took it off and noticed fps game felt twice as responsive, I would just disable it unless you need it for the tearing at lower fps or something

I decided against the Sceptre despite the lower price because Acer was a more recognizable brand to me, Sceptre is known for their monitors being a gamble on quality, and this Acer came out very recently.

You should turn on HDR via the monitor settings menu also, go to the gaming section and turn on freesync/gsync as well

For 189 its still bad. Everything smears black. Cyberpunk is pretty noticeable. If your playing a moba or grand strategy and need a curved monitor its okay for that purpose
