Summary

The Acer Nitro XV1 XV271U M3bmiiprx is a 27-inch 1440p IPS monitor running at 180Hz that has carved out a solid reputation in the budget gaming monitor space, typically selling between $180-$200. Reddit sentiment is largely positive for buyers who picked it up at sale prices, with most owners reporting good color quality and smooth 180Hz performance via DisplayPort. The monitor's biggest weakness is its 250-nit brightness ceiling, which makes it unsuitable for well-lit rooms or offices with significant ambient light. It's best suited for dark room gaming setups where its price-to-performance ratio genuinely shines.

Pros

  • Excellent value for 1440p + 180Hz IPS at the $180-$200 price point — repeatedly praised across multiple deal threads as one of the better budget QHD options
  • IPS panel delivers good colors out of the box; one owner noted enabling 10-bit pixel and HDR mode improved color quality enough to prefer it over a Dell S2721DGF
  • 180Hz refresh rate works seamlessly via DisplayPort with no manual configuration required, confirmed by multiple owners
  • FreeSync Premium support with G-Sync compatibility, though some users report needing a minor settings tweak for correct colors when using G-Sync
  • Built-in speakers included (a notable differentiator vs. competing MSI models at similar price points)
  • Panel manufactured by Austrian Optronics — a detail owners found reassuring about build quality relative to the price

Cons

  • 250 nits peak brightness is the monitor's most cited flaw — any window light or room lighting will wash out the image; users consistently recommend the Dell G2724D (400 nits) for brighter environments
  • HDMI 2.0 and DP 1.2 ports are older specs — HDMI caps out at 120-144Hz at 1440p, requiring DisplayPort to hit the advertised 180Hz
  • Some units exhibit vertical white line artifacts at 180Hz in 10-bit color mode; dropping to 170Hz resolves the issue, suggesting the 180Hz 10-bit spec is unreliable
  • QC inconsistency reported: a notable number of DOA (dead on arrival) units and thin, barely-snapped bezel corners — one buyer mentioned several 1-star Amazon reviews citing power-on failures
  • Amazon review grade flagged as suspicious by Fakespot analysis (D grade, adjusted rating 1.0), raising concerns about review authenticity at retail listings
  • Better-spec'd alternatives exist near the same price — the Dell G2724D at ~$145-200 offers 400 nits, HDMI 2.1/DP 1.4, and superior warranty service

Great Until the Lights Come On

Owners consistently love this monitor in dark rooms, but the 250-nit brightness cap turns into a real problem the moment ambient light enters the equation. It's a spec that defines exactly who this monitor is and isn't for.

The Budget 1440p Sweet Spot — With a Catch

At $180-$200, the XV271U M3bmiiprx delivers specs that were premium territory not long ago. But it competes directly with the Dell G2724D, which offers brighter output, newer port specs, and better warranty support for a similar or lower price depending on sales.

The 180Hz Claim Needs an Asterisk

Reddit owners discovered that 180Hz at 10-bit color produces vertical line artifacts on multiple units — the stable configuration is 170Hz or dropping to 8-bit. The advertised headline spec isn't fully reliable in practice.

Seems like a good deal but I absolutely hate that model numbering scheme.

I don't think I'd bother going from 144hz to 180hz. If higher framerate is appealing to you, shoot for 240hz+. The GL850 series did have lousy contrast ratio typically below 800:1, so I guess if you hate how bad the contrast is on them like I did, you could shoot for something else. This panel advertises ~1000:1 which is quite a bit better although still not that great compared to some of the 1200:1+ ratio modern IPS panels can offer.

Dell warranty's service is really good if you ever end up having to use it.

I got it for the same price on prime day and am really happy with it. I think it is only 250 nits which is too low for some people but I don't even run it at full brightness so my needs are well below that.

This seems to be the same panel with better brightness.

Listing mentions the 180 HZ refresh rate can only be achieved while using DisplayPort. HDMI supports only up to 144 HZ.

How much did you pay for your OLED though? $200 seems like a fantastic deal.

Sordidly good deal. Once again, IPS is good, but a panel like this at 90% brightness pretty much matches my OLED at 52% when blacks are not too involved.

I also got one of these on Prime Day and am very happy with it. I'd buy one again if I needed another.

250nits which idgaf what anyone says - more than enough for most of us. Mine gets vertical falling white lines in 180hz @10bit color. 170hz has been totally fine for a month. I got 2 of them. The bezel is extremely cheap and I could see people getting broken ones. Mine are fine but the corners are like barely snapped together. All that being said the picture is great and the price was good at $200. $180 is a no fuckin brainer.

the monitor itself says "made in China," however the panel is made by Austrian Optronics.

Has good reviews on PCpartpicker and Amazon, most people have spoken favourably of it in previous posts on this sub (it's gone on sale for $220 a few times before).

Tbf this is cheaper, higher refresh rate and the brightness is still good enough.

It isnt just me. As far as I can tell its happening to most panels with 180hz @10bit. Ive heard the "180hz" claim is only partly true cuz its not doable at 10bit.

It compares really well imo. I actually prefer it to the Dell S2721DGF now. It has better colors (enable 10bit pixel and HDR) and refresh rate at 180 hz. I had bought it on an amazon $165 sale and it amazing value for that.

I got the RV model. Love it over my XF243Y Pbmiiprx. First thing I had to do for the RV was turn on max brightness. It gave an energy use warning and then gave the full 400 brightness.

Yep that's exactly my point - 3x the cost. Don't underestimate IPS on a budget folks.

Wouldn't recommend it to most people. This is a 250 nits display so it's only suitable for dark rooms. Any window light will wash out the image. It's also only 8 bit cause it's HDMI 2.0 and DP 1.2. Minor point but still something that should be known. There are better deals with and without rakuten.

use displayport. this monitor supports HDMI 2.0, which means it'll only run at 120hz 1440p over HDMI.

Just got this and was dead on arrival. Couldn't get it to power on. Many 1 star reviews with the same problem. Great price if you get one that's not defective but beware the quality issues.

Is this only 250 nits? I believe an earlier version was 400, but I've read that this current production is nowhere near as bright.

I bought this a few days ago when this deal was posted last. The color is very good and the 180hz on display port was plug and go no change in settings. Overall I would highly recommend!

The "M3" model has 250 nits brightness, while others have higher brightness, etc. The "271" models appear to be older models than the "272" models, but are largely similar. They're probably cleaning out old inventory.

uncharted territory tbh. nobody knows yet if this monitor is as good as the 272U.

The XV272u is a really good monitor, I believe the 271 is the same monitor but with a really low brightness spec. So good for a dark room but a poor option for a well lit office.

I have to double check my model number but I got this monitor from Costco a few years ago. I like it. However if you use g-sync, in some games you have to do a little trick in the settings to get the colors and other issues fixed.

Depending on how much backlight bleed you get/are willing to put up with. I grabbed the 200hz version a while back and has noticeable bleed in dark spots (oblivion remastered caves, specifically) but it doesn't bother me and seems to be worse ones out there than mine so will just keep it. Really can't beat the value for 1440p though, colours are good and brightness as well for a dark room.

I didn't get too much further in my research other than HDR400 is just a lower spec in the HDR10 series. I just jumped on the Dell cause it was cheaper overall. I don't think I would really notice a difference.

It's okay, nothing special, but gets the job done. I don't have much experience to compare it to.

It's really nice. Not as bright as my LG OLED, but it's way cooler (thermal-wise) and for my room it's the perfect brightness and size. Might get a 2nd one and keep it sideways for media consumption.

Yeah I've got two and they're awesome, even the HDR mode is pretty nice, though it's not the brightest. $160 is crazy for these.
