Summary

The ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM is widely regarded on Reddit as the best 4K gaming monitor on the market, with owners consistently praising its 4th-gen QD-OLED panel, razor-sharp pixel density, and DP 2.1 support for uncompressed 4K at 240Hz. It earns near-universal praise from people upgrading from IPS displays, who describe the image quality as transformative. The monitor targets enthusiast PC gamers who prioritize image fidelity and refresh rate over screen size, and works great for both single-player and competitive gaming. Community sentiment is strongly positive, with most criticism centered on the 27-inch form factor being too small for users coming from 32-inch displays, and a proximity sensor bug that was resolved in a firmware update.

Pros

  • 4th-gen QD-OLED panel with near-infinite contrast and vivid colors — owners describe OLED blacks as 'unreal' compared to IPS panels
  • DP 2.1 support enables native 4K at 240Hz without Display Stream Compression (DSC), something no 4090 or older GPU supports but all RTX 50-series cards do
  • Exceptional factory calibration out of the box — multiple users returned competitors like the MSI 272URX and noted the ASUS had noticeably better calibration
  • Highest pixel density among 4K gaming monitors at 27 inches — delivers sharper text clarity than any 32-inch 4K OLED, making it ideal for productivity alongside gaming
  • No coil whine reported across multiple units, and internal PSU design eliminates the noise issues found on older ASUS OLED models like the PG32UCDM
  • VRR flicker is manageable with the built-in flicker control setting (set to medium), with most users reporting no noticeable flicker in real-world use

Cons

  • 27-inch size is a sticking point for many — users coming from 32-inch displays consistently say they feel the downgrade in immersion, and several returned or skipped it for larger models
  • QD-OLED characteristic slightly raised blacks in brightly lit rooms — visible when compared side-by-side with WOLED displays under ambient light, though contrast is still excellent
  • DP 2.1 is wasted on RTX 4090 and older GPUs, forcing DSC compression at 4K 240Hz — the full uncompressed benefit only materializes with RTX 50-series cards
  • Proximity sensor shipped buggy on early units (screen going black mid-game), though firmware 102 patched the issue for most owners
  • At its price point, the XG27UCDMG offers the same Samsung QD-OLED panel without DP 2.1 for ~$200 less — hard to justify the premium unless DP 2.1 matters to you
  • 4K at this size requires a powerful GPU — users with 3080 or older hardware report being limited to DSC or 1440p, undermining the monitor's main strengths

The Proximity Sensor Bug That Worried Buyers Is Fixed

Early adopters flagged a frustrating issue where the proximity sensor would cut the display mid-session. Firmware update 102 resolved it, and current buyers report clean out-of-box experiences with no coil whine.

Is DP 2.1 Worth the Premium Over the XG27UCDMG?

Reddit is split. If you have an RTX 4090 or older, you can't use DP 2.1 at full bandwidth anyway — the cheaper sibling delivers the same panel for less. The premium only makes sense if you're pairing with a 50-series GPU or future-proofing.

The 27" vs 32" Debate Defines This Monitor's Audience

More than any other spec debate, this one splits the community. Users who sit close love the superior PPI and sharpness. Users coming from 32-inch displays routinely say the smaller screen hurts immersion for single-player games — especially without DLSS.

If you're going to get a 4k 27", this is it. I prefer 32" tbh especially for this price point and wish they made this a 32" model instead of 27". Overall, excellent monitor…calibration of it is very good, returned a FO32U2P due to how badly the calibration is on that. But it still has the QD qualms of having slightly raised blacks with lights on, and can at times be a little too vibrant causing some eye fatigue.

There's no going back for me. Upgraded from a 4K IPS 144Hz and it's nothing short of transformative.

So far so good, except I had to disable the proximity sensor because screen was going black while I was playing.

yes very good monitor. you can also consider the xg27ucdmg which is basically the same but without dp 2.1 and quite a bit cheaper.

ASUS ROG Swift PG27UCWM will challenge it with very accurate colours and super sharp text clarity with true RGB sub pixel layout and glossy TrueBlack panel. But the current PG27UCDM is still the goat right now.

No coil whine on my unit. It does make an audible click when it turns off but that is normal according to other users.

DP2.1 was important to me, but if it's not for you, then the $200 premium over the XG27UCDMG is probably not worth it.

DP2.1 is backwards compatible so you can use it with the 4090 (it will run at just 1.4 speeds though). Also you can use it at 240Hz. It will be a DSC compressed picture though — most people can't see the difference. DP2.1 is good because it enables an uncompressed picture which is a little better.

I've set the flicker setting on monitor to medium. I've not noticed any flicker in real world use.

I own the pg27ucdm and the pg32ucdmr - if you sit close the size doesn't matter. If you want immersion 32" is the way to go. 27" is super sharp.

I just got mine today. I have a 3080 with only DP 1.4a so I had to use DSC. Not sure why ppl are complaining about alt tab black screens, I haven't experienced it. I use it with Windows HDR turned on and HDR dolby vision. Works damn nice. I came from 27in 2k 180hz and this thing makes me a bit dizzy, but hey, I ain't complaining this monitor is insanely good.

So far it was amazing for me, gaming and working both, was afraid to have issues with that, but nope, works like a charm, no eye strain for me. Absolutely love it, especially for being 27, as 32 is way too big for me.

Its good, I love mine and they fixed the only issue I had with it in the 102 firmware. The sensor wasn't working right and the screen would sometimes turn off while in use. Nothing serious and it was fixed.

I have the pg27ucdm and it is currently the best in qdoled. The dp 2.1 for me makes a difference not only in comfort but also in sensation when playing. As for the brightness, it is acceptable — what you will be guaranteed is vivid colors and contrast.

For a 27" model, this is the question: do we keep the PG27UCDM for another year? Its currently the Goat as you mentioned.

Yes, a DP 1.4 cable would work just fine with the PG27UCDM. Displayport and HDMI are backwards compatible. The monitor supports DP 2.1 but it will just negotiate to 1.4 speeds with older hardware.

Out of the box, the ASUS had noticeably better brightness and calibration to my eyes compared to the Alienware AW2725Q. The Alienware has a slight warm tint, which is apparently intentional due to a built-in blue light reducer.

Zero coil whine and exceptional quality as far as the panel is concerned. Amazing factory calibration as well. I got mine at $1099 and think it was worth every penny. I think it's the best overall gaming monitor money can buy.

It's good but honestly the others in the same category are very much the same. It's not worth the extra price if I am honest. That's coming from having the 272URX and the PG27UCDM. The AW2725Q has the exact same screen, just slightly different calibration and settings but those are marginal.

I've set up the asus today and it looks great. Picture quality wise, I can't tell the difference compared to the MSI (same Samsung panel anyways). Only small gripe is when you shut down your pc, the monitor goes into standby mode instead of powering off so the asus logo still glows in the front of the monitor. You need to press the power button to shut it down.

Woled has vertical lines you can see on gray screens. Rtings even comments on it in several reviews. I can see it on my LG C1 tv and my LG 27gr95qe monitor. I don't see them on this Asus pg27ucdm. In my experience qd-oled has better gray uniformity than the woled I have used.

Personally I would go for a bigger screen 32" for 3A games. But if you play fps games and prefer a smaller size, 27ucdm is the best on the market right now no doubt.

The ASUS makes small highlights really pop thanks to its near-infinite contrast ratio. The ASUS is far and beyond better in HDR than the Gigabyte IPS panel — brightness isn't everything in HDR.

It's one of the best and most expensive. I'd be cautious about getting a 4k monitor if your GPU can't handle it. 2k does not scale to 4k so it'll look poorly — just get a 1440p monitor like the Alienware AW2725DF instead.

Received my monitor today. So far so good, although there's a pixel defect at the outer edge of the screen which doesn't really bother me. Compared to my Samsung G8 34-inch ultrawide, the textures are clean and sharp. Very impressed with the image quality.

I have had bigger monitors for years but quite enjoy the 27 inch PG27UCDM. It's currently the best 27" 4K monitor out there — waiting to see what 2026 brings to challenge it.

Coming from an IPS panel, the OLED is on another level. OLED blacks are unreal. I've played for a few hours on it and honestly can't go back to anything else now. My second monitor looks like a washed-out toaster.

27inch is sharper and it looks better. I love mine and it's the best monitor I've ever had. 4k/240 is solid and with a 5090rtx it runs pretty much everything I throw at it at the highest possible settings.

I have the pg27ucdm and when I bought it I was also thinking about c5 42. My recommendation: if you want to see the detail of the games and are looking to be surprised by the sharpness, choose the asus. If you want to play and forget, choose the LG c5.

I just cannot live with the text clarity of 1440p. It's horrible compared to 4k. I got rid of my old PG27AQDM and now I'm very happy with the PG32UCDM.

With DLSS quality at 4K (which renders at 1440p), the image would look miles better than native 1440p. Basically every modern game that would be hard to run at 4K has DLSS support.

I'm tempted to sell my pg32ucdm for this simply for the DP 2.1 and the higher ppi.

I was in the exact same boat with a 5080 and needed an oled — I chose the LG C5. Both are fine screens. The PG27UCDM is sharper but the C5 has insane HDR and is better for media watching. If you are coming from a garbage monitor you will not be disappointed in either option.

Very similar monitors to the MSI 272URX — I'd call them twins. But I thought the ASUS PG27UCDM was better so I bought this one.

I tested both the PG32UCDM and the ASUS ROG Strix OLED XG27ACDNG. On a 5070ti with Cyberpunk benchmark on high, I got 110 fps on 4k and 190 on 1440p. For gaming, I personally would NOT recommend 4k — I went with the 1440p and am more than happy with the fps gains.

If you are used to 32", the 27" will be too small. I had my endgame monitor but convinced myself I needed 4k — I switched it for a 32" 4k monitor and now I found myself regretting the size loss.

I currently have a 23inch 2012 1080p LED IPS 60hz monitor and I chose to go with the 27inch PG27UCDM because I didn't want to feel disoriented moving from a 23inch to a 32inch. Very happy with the decision.

I have the Alienware AW2725Q and definitely had to mess with calibration — the PG27UCDM has the proximity sensor and DP 2.1 as extras, but if you don't use those much, the ~$450 savings on the Alienware are worth it. I would definitely get the ASUS if it was $800-900.
